WNO Orchestra Presented and Directed from the violin by David Adams Horn Soloist Angus West After a great success with this concert in 2017, WNO Orchestra makes another midwinter return to Bangor and to our important relationship through Pontio. The Prichard-Jones Hall is our destination for this year’s traditional New Year Concert.

Again, we leave the conductor behind and the musicians and audience are brought together for the evening by David Adams, WNO’s Orchestra Leader and Concertmaster. The concert includes one of the most famous works from Mozart, the Horn Concerto No 4. Surrounding this exciting offering, the ‘PJ’ Hall will resonate to the sounds of the most famous waltzes and polkas from glittering Vienna ballrooms.

9

Our opener, the fabulous overture to Der Freischutz by Weber, will get us off to a cracking start. Favourite waltzes such as Wine, Women and Song, The Blue Danube and Gold and Silver alongside the TritschTratsch, Thunder and Lightning and Champagne polkas and the great Radetsky March, will adorn the rip-roaring second half, alongside some of the less familiar fare. As usual, this is all guaranteed to put a spring back into your postChristmas step….with some interval surprises thrown in!

January 16 (Preview), 7.30pm January 17-20, 7.30pm Sunday 21 January, 2pm Pirates of the Carabina presents

Relentless Unstoppable Human Machine (RUHM) Theatr Bryn Terfel Preview £14/£12 over 60s/£8 students and under 18 £16/£14 over 60s/£10.50 students and under 18 An exclusive run of the brand new mechanically ingenious circus show from the makers of FLOWN before going on to the Roundhouse in London. Adventure into a world of mechanical chaos, where everything has a mind of its own and connections appear in unexpected ways. Enjoyably anarchic, punchy and exhilarating, with an ingenious interconnected

set and original live score, Relentless Unstoppable Human Machine (RUHM) delves bravely into the fantastical imaginations of two neighbouring acrobats. As contraptions, fixtures and fittings come to life, our heroes begin to question their place in it all and to reassemble the components of their world. Featuring vertical-swinging trapeze, never-ending ropes, a spinning carousel, 12

high-wire and a very temperamental staircase, RUHM offers up a playful, humorous modernist parable about time, technology and the forces that drive us. Developed with support from Pontio, Bangor, Roundhouse, London, Ffwrnes, Llanelli and the Arts Councils of England and Wales.

Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright Theatr Bryn Terfel £15 This time last year, it seemed highly unlikely the UK would vote to leave the EU; we had a reasonable opposition to the Tory Government; Donald Trump was a buffoon who surely wasn’t going to beat Hilary Clinton and Mark was living the married suburban ideal, a year later it’s all gone to absolute sh*t! But don’t worry, as Mark thinks Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright. Mark’s sell-out show Who Do I Think I Am, revealed his natural father was a world backgammon champion. Now the star of Radio 4’s Mark Steel’s in Town, and newspaper columnist of the year, is back on the road with a new show, guaranteed to make the world seem even more mental than it is.

Mark has written and presented many series of Mark Steel’s In Town on BBC Radio 4 (new series out soon) and toured it live around the UK. Shappi Khorsandi Mistress and Misfit Theatr Bryn Terfel £15/£13 concessions Shappi presents England's unsung heroine, Emma Hamilton. For too many years she has been known as just ‘Nelson's mistress', a bit of a harlot. (You get ONE job in a brothel and bang goes your reputation.) Women's lib wasn't a 'thing' in Georgian times, Emma moved mountains to haul herself from 'scullery maid' to 'Lady Hamilton'. Yes, she occasionally danced on tables naked to get ahead in life, but who hasn't? As a fellow naked dancer on tables, Shappi is inspired by Emma, although she never wants hair big enough to house mice in. Star of Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Have I Got News for You and Q.I, Shappi is on the road with her new sell out show.

She has whip-crack jokes and is effortlessly funny as she handles every subject with a razor sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously mischievous delivery and endless charm. Shappi Khorsandi is also the best selling author of ‘A Beginners Guide to Acting English’ and her fantastic debut novel ‘Nina is not OK’ was published by Ebury in 2016. Shappi was also recently elected president of the British Humanist society. 14+ (Parental Guidance) Likely to be swearing and adult content
