We look forward to an exclusive run of a brand new showstopper production by Pirates of the Carabina RUHM, new production Y Tad by Theatr Genedlaethol opening their Wales tour, our inaugural Wales/China Festival in partnership with associate theatre company Invertigo, and Sir Bryn Terfel’s first performance in the theatre named after him.
We relaunch our Comedy Club - in partnership with the people behind the successful Machynlleth Comedy Festival - and we welcome the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra back to Bangor.

Circus on Saturday Workshops Beginners aerial and circus skills Studio ÂŁ3 All are welcome to come along for a chance to try out some circus skills. Practice your moves and try out some new ones! Have a go at aerial hoop and trapeze,
learn to juggle, balance and spin plates. Workshops are led by local performers from North Wales based circus theatre company Cimera. 6

Work in Progress Sharing Event: Drudwen Studio £3 Cimera have been in residence in Pontio’s Theatre Studio developing their new touring show Drudwen. A dark fairy tale about an enchantress who rescues foundling twins abandoned in the forest, Drudwen is a story of choice and consequence told
through circus, spoken word, physical theatre, music, comedy and puppetry. It is performed bilingually in Welsh and English. This is a work in progress sharing and we would love the audience to stay and give us feedback after the presentation.

WNO Orchestra Presented and Directed from the violin by David Adams Horn Soloist Angus West After a great success with this concert in 2017, WNO Orchestra makes another midwinter return to Bangor and to our important relationship through Pontio. The Prichard-Jones Hall is our destination for this year’s traditional New Year Concert.
Again, we leave the conductor behind and the musicians and audience are brought together for the evening by David Adams, WNO’s Orchestra Leader and Concertmaster. The concert includes one of the most famous works from Mozart, the Horn Concerto No 4. Surrounding this exciting offering, the ‘PJ’ Hall will resonate to the sounds of the most famous waltzes and polkas from glittering Vienna ballrooms.

Our opener, the fabulous overture to Der Freischutz by Weber, will get us off to a cracking start. Favourite waltzes such as Wine, Women and Song, The Blue Danube and Gold and Silver alongside the TritschTratsch, Thunder and Lightning and Champagne polkas and the great Radetsky March, will adorn the rip-roaring second half, alongside some of the less familiar fare. As usual, this is all guaranteed to put a spring back into your postChristmas step….with some interval surprises thrown in!

set and original live score, Relentless Unstoppable Human Machine (RUHM) delves bravely into the fantastical imaginations of two neighbouring acrobats. As contraptions, fixtures and fittings come to life, our heroes begin to question their place in it all and to reassemble the components of their world. Featuring vertical-swinging trapeze, never-ending ropes, a spinning carousel, 12

Bangor Music Festival 2018 Theme: SPACE The Bangor Music Festival is a unique opportunity to explore space, planets, stars and galaxies through the medium of music and science that will be an inspiration to the whole family. The Music of the Spheres will resound during Zubin Kanga’s concert, that also includes festival commissions by Maja Palser and Claire Victoria Roberts together with two iconic pieces by George Crumb and Patrick Nunn. Live electronic sounds led by Scott Wilson will take centre stage at the Electroacoustic Wales and Birmingham Ensemble for Electroacoustic Research concert at Theatr Bryn Terfel, with additional acousmatic music by Jo Thomas and a festival commission by Ed Wright. Throughout the day the other events are placed within various locations within Pontio that presents us with an exploration of the Planetarium, music for young children with Marie-Claire Howorth and creating electronic sounds from the BEER website. Audiences will be captivated by the performance of student compositions performed by the Bangor New Music Ensemble and local instrumentalists are encouraged to improvise with the Bangor University Fusion Ensemble. Other activities include a piano masterclass and stargazing opportunities on the Friday. 20

Inspired by her family’s history, Francesca Rhydderch reads from her award-winning novel (Wales Book of the Year Fiction Prize 2014), joined by Yan Ying whose Mandarin translation was recently published. The Ensemble of St Luke’s Studio £12/£10 over 60s/£5 students and under 18s We continue to develop our relationship with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018 and are delighted to include the smaller Ensemble of St Luke’s in our programme. The Ensemble of St Luke's began its life in 1992, when a group of friends, all members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, decided to perform a number of chamber concerts to fundraise for various charities.
Since then, it has gone on from strength to strength and performs regularly in music clubs & festivals throughout Wales and the North of England. In 2012 the ensemble were invited to give a special concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Rodewald Society, one of the oldest chamber music concert societies in the world. 32
In August 2014 they were the first chamber group to feature at the Liverpool International Music Festival. They regularly coach in both Liverpool Hope University and the University of Liverpool, often appearing in both universities concert series. This season, the ensemble celebrates its 25th anniversary.

5 schools working with the Cimera Circus Company creating 3D art work for a procession along Bangor High Street to open the Pontio Circus Feast. The procession themes were Bangor's Lost Stories, with each school having a story about Bangor's history.
10 students studying drama and health and social care received an introduction to dementia from Joan Woods, a training officer at Bangor University Dementia Services Development Centre, before visiting Plas Hedd care home to get to know residents over a period of five weeks.
The year 7, 8 and 9 BLAS class joined forces with the year 10–13 class to create a devised performance. It played with the horror genre and looked at social media and the dream world.
These conversations were recorded in the home and developed as a verbatim drama by the young people under the guidance of Branwen Davies and Pontio's BLAS coordinator Mared Elliw Huws. 53

COLORAMA PLU BENDITH Theatr Bryn Terfel £14/£12 students and under 18s Colorama Welsh singersongwriter, music producer and multi-instrumentalist Carwyn Ellis and his band perform in Pontio for the very first time with special guests, Plu. Formed of sibling trio - Elan, Marged and Gwilym Rhys from Caernarfon, North Wales in the Summer of 2012, Plu (meaning 'feathers' in Welsh) play alternative Welsh language pop-folk, with close 3 part harmonies a backbone to their varied set.
Impressed by the trio from Bethel’s harmonies, Carwyn Ellis of Colorama decided to ask Elan, Marged and Gwilym Rhys of Plu to collaborate on an album of original music and perform under the name Bendith. The album Bendith won the Welsh Language Album of the Year 2017 at the National Eisteddfod and was shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize 2017. The songs on the album are inspired by roots – the sense of place, 57
