SPECIAL FEATURE - PARKLAND We were pleased to be invited to the launch of Parkland, a Vancouver-based brand of backpacks and handy accessories, as they opened their doors in Singapore. Parkland’s “Designed for Discovery” collection remains minimalistic, clean, and refined but still making a serious statement with pops of colours in the collection. The display setup of their products had elements of nature and world maps to represent their brand identity as a whole. The entire setup of the space for Parkland’s range sets the tone and idea that it’s made for the active and cool person searching for new adventures or escape. No matter where life takes you Parkland is built to last your life’s adventures. Upon arrival at Hotel Jen Tanglin, we were given a bag containing refreshments, a book, stickers, and a complimentary Parkland clutch on the spot. Representative media from Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan were present for the press conference. We made a move to Gardens by the Bay for the games to begin. There are two types of challenges: group and individual. For the group challenge, we had to answer a booklet of questions with Instagram photos and for the individual challenge, it was “Find Your Parkland Escape” by taking creative photos to describe your personal journey. We explored and searched to complete the challenges as part of their brand diversion. After a long day of discoveries, it was about time for dinner. The dinner was held at this beautiful open farm called Open Farm Community. Each one of the media representatives got a Parkland backpack. Parkland Product Manager, Taylor Hobbs, closed her brand presentation with a short appreciation speech to all the attendees and gave a toast to the winners of the challenges. Wholesome and nutritious organic meals were served straight from the farm and onto our tables. It suited the eco-friendly theme of their launch which revolved around the concept of discovering the world and nature.

Holy Shit. Self driving cars. It’s incredible to see Uber rolling out self-driving cars in the market before Google. Starting in Aug, Uber will allow customers in downtown Pittsburgh to summon self-driving cars from their phones, crossing an important milestone that no automotive or technology company has yet achieved. Uber’s Pittsburgh fleet, which will be supervised by humans in the driver’s seat for the time being, consists of specially modified Volvo XC90 sportutility vehicles outfitted with dozens of sensors that use cameras, lasers, radar, and GPS receivers.
We love the fact that these are designed so they don’t look ridiculous on your face like Google Glass. Design is dope and circular video format is truly a very good move from Snap. Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfers your Memories directly into the app in their brand new circular video format. Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. >>>

BEAUTY GEEK’S GUIDE
When it comes to discovering new skincare, we look to the A-listers with their plump skin and glowing complexions. Miranda Kerr revealed her secrets to gorgeous and glowy skin, it is none other than - Rosehip oil.
IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO START WITH OIL! WHAT IS IT? The tiny brown/blue bottles you find in beauty stores with good smells that never let you down. That’s right! Some may say that its magic in a bottle because of its healing properties that affect psychologically and physically. Essential oil do not work the same as perfume & fragrance oil though. Unless you like the smell of it as a perfume! It could be used for EVERYTHING! From your head to toes, cleaning household stuff, getting rid of pests and even for baking & more. WHAT ARE THEY ACTUALLY MADE OUT OF? Leaves, stems, fruits, and seeds by distillation. Cold pressed oils are more beneficial; it allows them to retain all its valuable elements.
Everyone is probably wondering whether using oils will cause breakouts? The answer is no, its just a myth, when in fact many oils directly treats acne. Stripping away naturally produced oils with nonoil based products will only cause the skin to fight back, and causing you to lose this battle. Oil based cleansers are a must have. Start believing this, oil dissolves oil and cleans the stubborn impurities stuck in our pores. It also strips the make up off your face without being too abrasive. The skin should have no residual tightness if suitable products were used.

mengham laboratory
Transforming the fragrances of Laboratory Perfumes into a multisensory ‘Sculpting Scent’ exhibition, artist Zuza Mengham has translated four of the perfumery’s signature fragrances, and its new eau de toilette ‘Atlas’, into unique resin sculptures that capture scent in visual and physical forms. Zuza’s beautiful creations will be exhibited in the windows of The Conran Shop Marylebone as part of our London Design Festival event and available for purchase in-store. We spoke to Zuza about her design process and the inspiration behind each sculpture in this exciting collaboration.
IDEA SPACE
Tell us a little bit about your background in art and sculpture. I did my degree in sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art in 2008, during which time I spent three years pretty much constantly in the metal workshop making large steel sculptures. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work as a technician for some incredible artists and galleries over the last eight years. A big part of that was wanting to learn as many crafts with as many materials as possible, so that I could get to the point where materials and processes were in no way an obstacle, but an influence and motivation for exploration.
‘Sculpting Scent’ presents an entirely new way of experiencing fragrance. How do you go about translating scents into tactile objects? I started with the scents themselves. I made a conscious decision not to read the descriptions, but to smell them all and see what I could decipher from them first directly, taking notes and ideas. After I matched them up with their descriptions, I made a series of drawings with watercolour overlays, building up the colours and patterns until I was happy that they translated in a way that felt appropriate. Because of the size of the pieces, a certain degree of planning is necessary as they are each around 7 kilograms of liquid resin; having said that, they served more as a guide to refer to.
The LAB collection of scents – Samphire, Tonka, Gorse – are named after elements of the outdoors. How did you go about conveying nature with a man-made material? I spent quite a while compiling a plethora of photos which focused on form and colour from natural imagery: coral, plants, moths, naturally formed minerals, lichen, stone, even milk. I think it’s easy to forget how vibrant nature is, especially when you live in the city. But there’s an abundance of natural creative influence to draw from and it was easy to get a palette established to work with. The main wall of my studio was plastered with all of the photos, so I could keep referring back to it and create the subsequent sketches and eventual sculptures. So, throughout the process, the work is all deeply tied in with the natural ingredients that comprise the perfumes. To read the rest of the article go to: www.curatedbypopculture.com
