It was a sunny autumn day and
Poppy was at her cousin Nancy’s house.
“how about a walk in the woods? –we’ll need to take provisions!”
Poppy and Nancy made a packed
lunch - with Aunt Eva’s delicious homemade bread and flapjacks,
beetroot and lettuce sandwiches and a flask of hot chocolate.
All set – let’s go!
They all headed off into the
woods – Fred went first, followed by Nancy’s horse Pippin.
They walked for ages until they come across a small bridge.
They were all feeling a bit tired
and hungry so they decide to stop
for their picnic and have a rest.
But - Oh no!
“Where’s the Picnic bag?” cried
Poppy.
They must have lost it!
“I know! - Let’s try and catch a fish for our lunch instead” said Poppy.
She carefully tied a rusty old hook
on a long stick, and dangled it into
the river. They wait... and wait...
and wait some more...
And then, they catch something –
“oh dear, it’s just a silly old boot” says Poppy.
All of a sudden Fred starts to bark, – the boot was changing
colour and is giving off puffs of
smoke!
What on earth is going on? Maybe it’s a magic boot?
Poppy noticed a squirrel and an
owl high up in the oak tree, then a
deer, a family of rabbits and a little
hedgehog gathered round them.
Poppy was sure she heard the little hedgehod say “make a wish!” –
P
oppy covered her eyes and wished a wish.
“You too Fred – make a wish – it might come true!” “I wish we were all together, having a lovely picnic..” Suddenly the whole woods came alive and the little animals ran into the trees. Poppy and Fred ran after them– and just around the corner....
There was Nancy and Pippin and all the little animals – with the
most amazing picnic Poppy had ever seen.
“Please join us for a picnic” Poppy
said to the her new animal friends.
And they all had a lovely time.
Especially the little hedgehog
who enjoyed the hot chocholate so much he nearly fell into the cup!
Soon it was home time. Poppy, Fred and Nancy waved
goodbye to their new friends and promised to be back very soon.
The end.
