COMMUNITY CALENDAR & WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE

Collection Zones

Secure your Waste to Keep Unwanted Guests Away

Collection is weekly for green carts (organics) and biweekly for blue (recycling) and grey (garbage) carts. Find your collection day info on the monthly calendar pages or: • •

One meal is enough to bring a bear back again and again. Secure attractants to keep your neighbourhood and bears safe and to avoid a fine. More info: portcoquitlam.ca/lockitright.

Download the free PoCo Sort & Report app: portcoquitlam.ca/sortreport Visit portcoquitlam.ca/waste (Waste Cart & Collection Info page) For more waste sorting and collection information, check out the Sort it Right guide at portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright.

A SUSTAINABLE APPROACH This calendar has been printed on FSC®-certified paper with at least 10% post-consumer recycled content. Please recycle this calendar at the end of 2024.

LOCK IT UP

SET IT OUT

• Secure attractants in a garage, shed, or with an approved cart lock. • Pick ripe fruit and berries. • Clean your barbecue after every use. • Keep pet food and bird seed out of reach.

• Only set out unlocked carts at the curb between 5:30-7:30 am on collection day [leave at least 1 m (3 ft) between carts]. • Secure them again by 7 pm.

About our 2024 Calendar The theme of our 2024 calendar is once again Naturally PoCo, highlighting the beauty in the flowers, wildlife and landscapes that can be found in and around Port Coquitlam. All photos featured in the calendar were submitted by community shutterbugs. The cover image, entitled Blakeburn Lagoons Sunrise, was captured by Bryan Ness at Blakeburn Lagoons Park. We thank all contributors and will feature these and other submitted photos in City publications and at portcoquitlam.ca/photos.

Don’t be a wishcycler.

GET THE FREE

When you wishcycle, more goes to the landfill.

Port Coquitlam’s free Sort & Report app is a one-stop resource with a wide variety of uses.

Wishcycling includes both mis-sorted waste and soiled recycling. It can lead to expensive fines for the City, driving up costs that are passed on to taxpayers.

wishcycling • [wish] [sai·kluhng] verb Wishcycling is putting items in the recycling bin without knowing for sure if, where or how they should be recycled.

TWO WAYS TO AVOID WISHCYCLING: 1

Put waste in the right place Check the Sort it Right search engine on the PoCo Sort & Report app or at portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright.

2

Prepare recyclables properly • Empty and clean containers to prevent contaminating a load of recyclables. • Keep recyclables loose to reduce processing problems – don’t bag, stack or bundle them

Learn more: portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright

Sort & Report app Sort waste on the go, report problems with City services, get waste collection alerts and more!

DOWNLOAD THE APP TODAY TO: • Use the built-in search engine to properly sort your waste • View or print your home’s personalized collection schedule • Set up collection reminders – never miss another pickup • Report a problem with any City service • Stay up-to-date about schedule or service changes • And more!
