Changes to Aquatic lesson registration

The City is excited to increase access to aquatics lessons for fall 2023, with an enhanced registration process. These improvements include:

• Adding skills as a pre-requisite to a customer’s profile in the registration system as a requirement for aquatics lessons and

• Adding additional registration dates for aquatic lessons on a rolling registration. A rolling registration will provide an opportunity for participants to register for a lesson more frequently throughout the season and provide fewer breaks in learning.

Registration for aquatic lesson programs will go as follows:

• Port Coquitlam residents will have access at 8 am 30 days prior to the first day of swim lessons.

• General public will have access at 8 am 27 days prior for the first day of swim lessons.

Providing proof of prerequisites

Bring a report card to one of the Recreation Centres (Hyde Creek Recreation Centre or Port Coquitlam Community Centre) in person or send an email with the participant’s name and a photo of the report card to recreation@portcoquitlam.ca. Please ensure the photo includes the participant’s name and the last level they have passed.

If you are unsure whether the prerequisites are in the system, please contact the Recreation team at recreation@portcoquitlam.ca or call 604-927-PLAY (7529).

Neither Here Nor There, but Everywhere. Neither Then Nor Now, but Forever

by Natasha Boskic, Linda Haftner, Pierre Leichner, Alex Lavrov, Johnny Tai, and Barbara Tevarotto

Neither Here Nor There, but Everywhere. Neither Then Nor Now, but Forever is a group show by artists Natasha Boskic, Linda Haftner, Pierre Leichner, Alex Lavrov, Johnny Tai, and Barbara Tevarotto. Each artist has roots in a story of emigration. This exhibition is about those diverse, unique, and complex stories from immigrants. Gilles Clement, a philosopher-gardener, coined the terms “brassage planétaire” to note that everything—inorganic as well as organic—on the planet has been in continuous motion since its creation. In fact, our evolution depends on it from the biological to the spiritual levels. Each artist in this show uses different mediums to explore and share their experiences.

Wax Fusion

Wax Fusion is an exhibition of encaustic paintings by Port Coquitlam artist Angela Tahara. Angela began her artistic practice as a sculptor. With much success in that genre, she yearned for colour and embraced oil painting, which led to the vibrancy of encaustic (hot wax). She combines the two mediums and challenges herself to evolve in technique and voice with every new art piece she creates.

Every Body Tells a Story

Every Body Tells a Story is an exhibition of photographs by Derry Lubell Derry has always been curious about and fascinated by people. For many years, she worked as a psychotherapist, using words to help traumatized people deal with their issues. After rediscovering her love for photography, Derry changed her vocabulary from verbal to visual. Now she captures and explores people’s emotional lives by creating images together with them.

This exhibit focuses on how dancers talk to us through their bodies, how they use their physicality to communicate and tell their story. Derry has translated the dancers’ narrative, what they want or need to tell us, into the accessible and universal language of photography.
