c r h a e S e h t d n u F p l e H d an F or the past five years History Flight has been taking its breathtaking “until they’re Home” Barnstormer tour to regional airports across the u.s., and to events like the recent Vero Beach Aviation Day, Florida International Airshow, and Fun and sun at Lakeland Linder. he tour stars three of World War II’s most important the aircraft, each authentically restored as flying museums that offer educational and downright exhilarating warbird rides, for a great cause. First there is “Barbie III”, a north American B-25H Mitchell Bomber (the only H The Pilot Maker model still flying worldwide) that’s equipped with a unique 75mm cannon in the nose for ground attack purposes plus 12 50-caliber machine guns. Each flight takes up to six passengers who form a tightly knit Bomber Crew, flying in the cockpit, waist or tail gunner positions. Would-be pilots can literally take the controls (with certified flight instructors aboard) in a two-seat At-6 texan or open cockpit n2s stearman biplane. Both airplanes were used as trainers during WWII, are quick and maneuverable, and can include aerobatics and combat maneuvers if desired. Best of all no piloting experience is required! Each tax-deductible flight funds ongoing research and search missions that help bring America’s missing WWII servicemen home from remote battlefields and crash sites in Europe and the Pacific theater. In 2011 alone History Flight ran six separate MIA search teams, three in Europe and three on the Pacific island of Betio where the Battle of tarawa was fought. to date they have located the remains of over 200 MIAs from locations in the Pacific theater. History Flight also funds research on WWII and Korean War MIAs at the u.s. national Archives, the

FLORIDA’S SEA TURTLES RETURN TO OUR BEACHES FOR NESTING
D
id you know that sea turtles, which are among the oldest creatures on earth, have remained essentially unchanged for 110 million years? However, they face an uncertain future. Illegal harvesting, habitat encroachment, and pollution (physical and light) are only some of the things sea turtles must face as they struggle to survive as a species.
FlOriDA’S SEA tUrtlES there are five species of sea turtles found swimming in Florida’s waters and nesting on Florida’s beaches.All five are protected under state and federal statutes: • Loggerhead turtle • Green turtle • Leatherback turtle • Hawksbill turtle • Kemp’s Ridley turtle spring, summer, and fall are busy times for Florida beaches with both people and sea turtles sharing the sand.turtle nesting usually happens at night, but it is very possible for humans to cross paths with nesting females or hatchlings on the beach. If you are lucky enough to cross paths with a sea turtle, it is important that you: • Stay out of the sea turtle’s way. • Don’t put your hands on or near the turtle. • Don’t make noise or try to frighten the turtles because any distraction may disorient them, causing a female to return to the ocean before she finishes laying her eggs. • Don’t use any flashlights, flash photography, or lights on video equipment. Light can cause a major disruption in the turtles’ natural behavior and can cause a female to “false crawl”(go back into the water). • Enjoy the experience from a distance. If you come across a sea turtle that is stranded or dead; a hatchling that is wandering on a road or parking lot or moving in a direction other than the water; or, if you see someone disturbing a nest or turtle, please call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) 24-hour Wildlife Alert Hotline 1-888-404-FWCC.
