Dear Parents & Students, As we come to the end of another year I am overwhelmed with emotion and excitement as I contemplate 30 years of having the privilege of impacting and educating our youth and providing for them a center of dance excellence that not only shapes them as artists, but prepares and equips them for life's journey. It is with great joy and pleasure to see the growth and development of each student and to have the opportunity to build upon that foundation continued artistry and excellence in the years to come. Along with the blessing of our 30th anniversary these are some of this years highlights: • We had our first student graduate from The Juilliard School • Our students received over $300,000 in College Scholarship money • We had our first student join the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet in Aspen Colorado • The highest number of students to ever reach "National Outstanding Dancer" • We have awarded the students of Dance Stop with over $15,000 in Scholarships • Dance Stop Dance Education Center has had its first commercial

In closing, I would like to thank all of you for being a part of the Dance Stop family and end with a quote from Abraham Lincoln, "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." It is our hope that we too have been a part of making the life in your years count. Dance Stop Dance Education Center would not be what it is today without the dedication and guiding influence of Miss Gina’s father, our beloved “Mr. D.” From painting the walls of the first classroom, to learning the first names of countless students over the years, he touched so many lives with his generous heart, and lit up every room with his amazing smile. He will be loved forever and always, and missed more than words can express. That front row seat you occupied at each and every recital will always be yours, Mr. D! With love, The Dance Stop family

The M & I Dancewear Scholarship

This year, one student will receive a $500 award to attend the Young Artists Dance Intensive (YADI) at Dance Stop This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Irwin Liss and M & I Dancewear

In a letter to us, Mr. Liss explained his motivation for creating the scholarship….. Gina and Ernie:

As you both know we are privileged to be able to work in our passion. We are blessed to be able to watch young boys and girls, young men and women, pursue their passion as well. I have known both of you since you created Dance Stop and I am proud to be part of such an outstanding educational center…not just dance education, but life education: teamwork, time management, family commitment, accountability, and so much more. Always striving to better yourselves and create better dancers, you provide the resources necessary to ensure an incredible opportunity to those who wish to take advantage of your services and passion.

I am pleased to be able to contribute to your outstanding programs through a financial scholarship.

I also feel very close to your students. Sometimes, I just come to watch class and competition and just feel part of such a great thing. PHASE 1 of the expansion of our Parlin studio is officially underway! The parking lot has already undergone a significant transformation, and there are other major changes ahead! Our popular instructor from California, Ms. Julie Shulman-Friedrich, is expecting another baby! Big sister Violet is looking forward to welcoming a new sibling later this year. The caliber of guest teachers and choreographers that are available at Dance Stop is remarkable! Look at some of the dance professionals that have led weekly classes and special workshops at our school: Juan Rodriguez, of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Complexions Ballet, the Juilliard School, and the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble. Michaela DePrince, Dance Theatre of Harlem, the American Ballet Theatreâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, the Youth American Grand Prix, and a primary subject of the 2011 documentary film, First Position. Thang Dao, of the Juilliard School, the Boston Conservatory, Ballet Austin, and New York Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Gallatin School. He is the founder and director of The Thang Dao Dance Company, the recipient of the 2008 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship, and was a finalist for 2012 Vilcek Award for Creative Promise. Sayaka Ohtaki, of Ballet West, the Komaki Ballet, the Japan Ballet Association, the Piccolo Ballet, the National Theatre of Ulan-Bator (Mongolia), and the Inoue Ballet School of Japan. Al Blackstone, of the Broadway production of Wicked, and the faculty of Pace University, Broadway Dance Center, and Steps on Broadway. His extensive professional credits include choreographing for several NYC stage productions, films, and television, including So You Think You Can Dance.

Julie Shuman-Friedrich, of the American Repertory Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Body Traffic, and the faculty of Orange County (Calif.) High School for the Performing Arts. She is the recipient of a Presidential Excellence Award as an Outstanding Instructor. 21
