A Letter From The Director

Dear Parents and Friends, Wow! It’s our 37th Dance Spectacular! We are so proud of each and every student who has worked hard to perform for you today! Today’s performance is a celebration of dedication, commitment and a passion for the art of dance. So applaud with enthusiasm because each of dancers is truly a shining star! Regardless of ability, age, shape or size, everyone can share a passion for dance! This has been our philosophy since the beginning and that is why we present a show where every student knows the choreography and is prepared for their performance. When the curtain closes, not only are our students better dancers but they are also better people! They have learned discipline and confidence! They have learned to persevere and have developed excellent teamwork skills. These values will last a lifetime, long after their dance recital is over! My staff and I are so excited to work with your beautiful children each week, inspiring them to be the best that they can be in the most beautiful art form of all time…dance! We believe that children and teens who dance are happy, focused, committed, proud, inspired, passionate, healthy, smart and confident! We as dance teachers believe we are not just teaching steps. Dance is a powerful art form that can heal our soul when we are hurting. It can help us forget when we are overwhelmed. It can inspire us to keep on going. It encourages us to work hard to achieve a goal so that we learn to follow through with our commitments. Only a small percentage of young dancers will move on to a professional career, but the lessons learned in dance are lifelong lessons as students discover the results of their hard work and determination when their dances come together to delight you…..the audience members and parents! Nothing can move an audience quite like good dancing. Each student in the show has worked hard and memorized their dance routines so they can share their joy and emotions with you. From our youngest preschooler to our most advanced student, each one will try to do their best for you, for their teachers, for their classmates and most importantly, for themselves. Movement makes us feel good! Doing our best makes us feel good! Put it all together and you get an enjoyable uplifting show that we know you will enjoy. Dancing may look easy, but believe me, it’s not. Memorizing the routine, executing correct dance technique, performing in time to the music, staying on the correct foot,

keeping in the right formation while smiling can be truly challenging. Our students deserve a huge round of applause! Each year, we strive to make a fun, beautiful and tasteful show that our students are proud to be in and that you, our audience can truly enjoy. Our show is produced with professional Broadway quality lighting and sound, creative costuming, and scenery. We strive to make our dances age appropriate in both content and ability level. We teach correct dance technique and incorporate the most up to date dance styles. Whether a student is dancing for fun, fame or a little of both, our dance programs provide wonderful educational benefits. Our program allows for self expression, an emotional outlet and exercise that educational researchers say can perk up a child’s mental processes making them better students in school. Our program teaches focus and discipline. Researchers have discovered that true self esteem is built through genuine accomplishments and praise that is truly earned! THANK YOU PARENTS for being here with us today and for believing in Dance World Academy and the standard of excellence it represents. We know that you have sacrificed a lot to give your children a fine dance education. We appreciate your support of our program and the policies necessary to maintain our high standards. Your children are lucky and blessed to have such encouraging and supportive parents! THANK YOU STUDENTS for your outstanding hard work and dedication. Thank you for understanding that when people care about you - they want the best from you. Thank you for giving us that. Our faculty is very proud of you and values the opportunity to be part of your life. THANK YOU TO MY STAFF AND FACULTY for your true belief in excellence and your dedication in time and effort to achieve it! I am very fortunate to have you all in my life. You are truly amazing people who inspire me daily with your spirit, enthusiasm and encouraging words! THANK YOU AUDIENCE for sharing this wonderful performance with us. It is hearing your applause that makes performing on stage such a unique and delightful experience. Thank you to my incredible loving family, my wonderful husband who is ALWAYS there when I need him, my beautiful Dana who makes me smile every day with her goodness, and Sholpan who showed me that all things are possible with hard work and determination. Enjoy the show!!

She employs teachers of only the highest caliber and dedication who share her vision of excellence in the classroom. Under her direction, she and her staff spend hours and hours in the dance studio motivating and encouraging students to be “the very best they can be and not settling for less.” This has earned Dance World Academy students a national reputation for dancing with nearly flawless precision, exciting energy, outstanding technique and radiant enthusiastic faces. Her students have received thousands of awards in the most prestigious competitions in our country today. In 2006, she took 13 award winning Dance Company members to St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia for a ten day Performance and Study tour to promote cultural exchange and friendship. Aside from directing and encouraging her caring teaching staff, Ms. Farinella continues to teach and choreograph at Dance World Academy full time. Her innate creativity has led to the birth of the clever gimmicks, themes, costumes and production numbers that you will see in this performance. What I Learned from Dance World Academy…Besides Dancing!! B Y O U R 2 0 1 5 G R A D U AT I N G S E N I O R S

SUZANNE ALLAN: After spending 7 years at Dance World Academy I am pleased to say I have learned more than dances. I have learned the value of friendship, the importance of teamwork, and what the true definition of respect is. I would like to give a special thank you to all my teachers who taught me throughout the years. You have all impacted my life in various ways, and for that I am forever grateful. I will forever cherish Dance World Academy and the lessons I have learned throughout my many years.

SAMANTHA BOMBEL: I have learned so much in the 12 years I spent dancing at Dance World Academy. I made friends that I will have for life, and grew with them throughout the years. I also learned how to express myself using dance. I was forced to step out of my comfort zone, and perform my story on a stage for hundreds of people. Dance World Academy has shaped me to be a self expressive, hard working individual, and I am very fortunate to have spent so many years learning here.

WALTER BROWN: I was five years old when I walked through the doors of Dance World Academy, and it has been the best fourteen years of my life. Dance World Academy has taught me how to become self confident, respect others, and that what I set my mind to, I can accomplish. My favorite part of being at Dance World Academy was getting to perform on stage and making people smile. I will truly miss dancing at Dance World Academy because everyone became like part of my family. I will take all of the love, dedication, discipline, and hard work that I have been taught at Dance World Academy and incorporate it into my future career in the military.

ALEAH BAILEY: When I was younger, dance was just a hobby. I failed to understand its significance. As I matured, dance became way more than just a craft. Dance class became an escape. It was the only place I could go and not worry about upcoming tests, SAT scores, drama, or my appearance. None of that mattered as I did time steps or Cincinnatis. Dance class became my outlet. It was a place where I could clear my mind and relax. Through dance, I’ve gained confidence, discipline, and social skills. Dance class has instilled many lessons in me that can be applied to various aspects of life. For instance, when learning a dance, whether I pick up the steps right away or not, the class still goes on. This has taught me that life doesn’t wait for anyone. Instead of giving up on the steps, I went home, practiced them, and returned the next week with those steps mastered. This has proven to myself that I have the ability to succeed at whatever I put my mind to. So, although life doesn’t wait for anyone, I am capable of catching up through persistence and hard work.

ERIN BANIAGA: My 11 years at Dance World Academy has taught me so much more than how to point my feet or how to hold my relevé longer. They have taught me to manage my time, respect different opinions, and to simply keep trying when things get difficult. I’ve learned that if I keep at something, I will eventually get the hang of it and eventually master it. It is amazing how these amazing teachers and staff were able to not only mentor me but make my experience unforgettable. As I move onto another chapter of my life, I will always hold the lessons and memories from Dance World Academy close to my heart.

STEPHANIE CARLEO: "If you can think about what you want in your mind, and make that your dominant thought, you will bring it into your life." – Rhonda Byrne

Dance World Academy has not only given me the opportunity to dance, but has also shaped my character. I have learned to keep my mind open to every obstacle I meet, regardless of how difficult it may seem. Pushing through hard times with patience and persistence will pay off in the end. My commitment to dance has involved sacrifice, but I can say that I have gained self pride in my ability to stick to a passion. I have also learned that failure is crucial to making progress, but the judgement of others should not diminish how you perceive yourself. Confidence and self acceptance are important to living a happy and successful life.

KRISTEN PALERMO: Upon arrival to a dance class, one would think that all there is to learn are dance steps. However, Dance World Academy has taught me so much more than that. Through dance, I have become more confident and open minded. These characteristics will stay with me for the rest of my life, and it’s all thanks to my experiences at Dance World Academy. Thank you to all my teachers for being so wonderful over the years. I will always cherish the memories that I have made here at Dance World Academy, as well as cherish all the friendships that I have encountered.

AMANDA MAJER: “We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

My past 12 years of being a student at Dance World Academy have taught me more than just dance steps. I have learned the importance of determination, and that if I believe in myself I can achieve whatever I put my mind to. Most importantly, I have learned so much about myself, and with the help of the people I consider to be my second family, I have found confidence, inside and outside of the studio walls. I will carry with me all of the life lessons I have learned at Dance World Academy, along with countless amazing memories to last me a lifetime.

MASSIEL PERALTA-GARCIA: I’ve never been an outgoing person when it comes to speaking out, but at Dance World Academy, I learned to express myself through dance. I learned to take risks, fall, and try again. In life, falling is inevitable but getting back up and trying again is what leads to our success. Dance World Academy has taught me to never give up on myself no matter how difficult the obstacle in front of me might seem. I would like to thanks all the teachers at Dance World Academy who have helped me have an amazing and unforgettable experience in my ten years dancing.

MARIAH MARTINEZ: “Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is not mere translation or abstraction from life; it is life itself.” – Havelock Ellis

Throughout the years at Dance World Academy, I have learned many things. Dance World has provided me with the coordination of using the mind and body, to create a movement unlike any other. Dance World has formulated a creative and emotional outlet throughout my life, by allowing me to express myself through the act of dance. I have also learned to socially connect with many different personalities on and off the stage. Dance World has given me the opportunity to work with amazing dancers creating a family-like environment. I commend Dance World Academy for boosting my confidence level, and acknowledging that I have stage presence, beauty, and passion for dance.

BRIELLE REDDINGTON: During my 15 years attending Dance World Academy, I learned more than perfect turn out and how to do a rhythm time step. I learned that hard work and dedication will get you anywhere in life and allow you to do anything you set your mind to. Dance World Academy has taught me important life lessons, such as time management, practice makes perfect, and even different languages. I will never forgot all the people I have met during my time here and will always hold the moments I shared here close to my heart.

PAULETTE MONTEZA: “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.” – Wayne W. Dyer

RONAISHA RUTH: “Dancing is the poetry of the foot.” – John Dryden

At Dance World Academy, I've learned a lot more than just dance. Over the past 14 years, I've learned respect, dedication, perseverance, teamwork, and passion. I will take these skills every teacher and peer has taught me into the next chapter of my life. I thank Ms. Donna for always believing in me, as well as every teacher here at DWA. I will always cherish the memories made here in my heart.

Dedication, determination, and confidence, are all qualities Dance World Academy has taught me. All the wonderful teachers have instilled a certain mindset in me not only for dancing but in life, to push myself and never settling for less, anything can be achieved. I will never forget everything I learned and friendships I've made over the past 15 years. Dance World Academy is always a place to call home and I will never forget the opportunities this school has given me. DWA will always have a special place in my heart.

5

DAMANI VAN RENSALIER: “Forget the risk, take the fall. If it’s what you want, then it’s worth it all.”

NYAMEKE SMITH: First, I would like to thank God for giving me the talent and ability to dance at Dance World Academy. Through my teachers I have learned that if you make mistakes, to still continue and learn from them. This will serve me well as I go into the “real world.” As I move onto my next chapter in life, I will always remember the memories, dancers, teachers and faculty, lessons all long with the lectures, and last but not least, my friends. I love you all, stay blessed!

Whether it was to be myself or to never be complacent, Dance World Academy has taught me many lessons that I will carry on with me through life. Ever since I was a young dancer taking my first steps in the studios, I've learned the importance of work ethic and drive to accomplish what it is I want to achieve. I was encouraged to take every opportunity that came upon me because, in the blink of an eye, they would soon be gone. It wasn't easy to believe in myself and be assertive in what I wanted, but Dance World helped me find the confidence that I needed to do so. Ambition, determination, and being assertive are just few of the many qualities I've gained during my time at Dance World Academy. Now I know that wherever life takes me, I know I will be ready.

MEY YOUNG TAY: For me, dance is a form of self-expression that provides the means for the creative mind to develop. This past year at Dance World Academy has taught me that in life, one must not hesitate to pursue one’s interests. I have learned that not everything in life is about the future. It is important to have goals and career aspirations, but one must also think about the everyday life and do things for one’s daily enjoyment. It is true that now that I head for college “the future” is my main concern, but I have learned this past year, that daily living is just as important.

NYEIRA WEBB: “To be creative means to be in love with life.”

Being a part of the Dance World Academy family for 14 years was such a wonderful experience! It has given me confidence and self-motivation. I am now someone who follows her heart. I am blessed. Thank you Dance World Academy for an incredible dance experience!

EMILY VALDES: “There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.” – John Dryden

KATHY YUNGAICELA: Dance World Academy has taught me so much. One thing for sure is "giving up" will never be the answer. And because of that I have learned how to be confident, determined, and responsible. These past 12 years at Dance World Academy truly impacted my life in the best way because I have came across many great dancers and have made such amazing friends. I'd like to thank Miss Donna and my teachers for never giving up on me but for pushing me harder to prove to myself that I'm capable of doing anything I put myself up for. I can honestly say that being a student at Dance World Academy was the best experience I ever had and that's something I will never forget.

For the past seven years, Dance World Academy has allowed me to explore my passions for the art of dance. I have grown as a performer and have learned to never put aside a dream no matter how daunting it may appear. Dance World Academy has not only given me the strength to pursue my dreams as a performer, it has empowered me to reach beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone and discover new aspects of my life I would have never seen without the help of all my teachers. I will take with me a sense of perseverance that I am extremely grateful to have learned in the studios of Dance World Academy.

Our graduates would like to thank their wonderful supportive families without whom their dance experiences would have been impossible. They love their families and appreciate them for the many sacrifices they made in order to support their dancing! They appreciate them more than words could ever say!!

Dance Company 2015

The Dance World Academy Dance Company was founded in 1979 to help students who wanted to dance more than just recreationally to work with a strongly committed group of people to achieve high technical and artistic goals. Just as students join a sports team, our Dance World Academy Dance Company provides an excellent outlet for the students whose favorite activity is dance. All students are considered through teacher recommendation. We look for students who have the talent, determination and the work ethic to achieve at a much higher level than what can be accomplished in a once a week recreational dance class. Students must be able to attend outside of class time rehearsals and have the parental support to pay for competitions and bring students to extra rehearsals. The students listed below have devoted a lot of time and energy to dance and have achieved outstanding top awards and high scores in competitions throughout the Nation. Aside from competitions, our Dance World Academy Dance Company attends field trips and conventions to broaden their horizons in dance. They are also eligible for performance trips like the ones we have taken to Disney World, Russia, China, Germany, London and Paris! Our Dance Company is led by our Director, Donna Farinella and our Chief Executive Dance Teacher, Debra J. Wolter. The many other fabulous DWA Faculty members who work with our Dance Company are Yessenia Ledesma, Natalie Ward, Maritza Domenack, Lester Holmes, J.P. Ferreri, Stephany Lockhart, Natalia Ejova, and Yuka Omori. Thank you for inspiring our students to excellence! Additional thanks to guest choreographers and teachers, KC Castellanos, Robin Passmore, Jersey Cape School of Dance and Gymnastics, Reggie Myers, Amy Gardner, Carmelo Cruz, Kurt Csolak, David Henry and Kelly Lacuin for their choreographic collaborations with us and our beautiful dancers! When You Invest In Dance at Dance World Academy You Invest In More Than Just Dance Training Dance... develops motor skills and coordination. Dance... builds self-esteem and confidence. Dance... teaches socialization skills and teamwork. Dance... promotes self-discipline, self-pride and responsibility. Dance... encourages concentration skills. Dance... helps children express themselves through the joy of movement. Dance... is healthy exercise. Dance... teaches perseverance and focus through continued practice. Dance... offers intellectual as well as physical challenges. Dance... promotes creativity and creative thinking. Dance… teaches patience with yourself and with others, an important trait in today’s “instant” world where we always want results right away. All of this and it’s Fun, too!! Dance at Dance World Academy has Benefits that Last a Lifetime. Thank You for Dancing with Us!

This show is dedicated to the memory of my parents, Margie and Donald Farinella who always believed in my dreams and helped those dreams become reality. Without their support and encouragement, there would be no Dance World Academy. All accomplishments begin with dreams. Dreams can come true with hard work, drive, determination, patience, and the help and support of loving people in our lives! Parents and Caregivers - Please listen to the dreams of your children. Believe in your children and in their ability to accomplish great things! Children - Be thankful and respectful to your parents and caregivers! Be appreciative of all of the supportive people in your life. Enjoy the show and God bless you and your beautiful families!! Sincerely, Donna Farinella Owner and Director Dance World Academy 75
