Recorder for Beginners | Age 60 & up*

Find your Renaissance by learning this timeless instrument in the pleasure and comfort of a small group. Begins with note reading, fingering and simple songs to play. Bring your own recorder (none provided); instructor suggests Aulos, Zenon or Yamaha brand). Both C (soprano, tenor) and F (alto, bass) recorders welcome. This activity uses an instructional book and CD which you can purchase on the first day of class at CMC for $20 (in addition to registration fee; non-refundable). *This class is open to beginners of all ages with priority to age 60 and up.

Intermediate & Advanced Recorder Ensemble Age 14 & up

Enter the next level of the instrument's repertoire. Explore more challenging pieces, play two or more sizes in an ensemble where technique and musicianship will develop. Sopranos, altos, tenors, bass and great bass come together as a polished ensemble under the guidance of an instructor. Meet other enthusiasts; refine skills that enable playing as one. There will be opportunity for some to sing play reed and string instruments. Technique and ornamentation will be discussed. Prerequisite: Intermediate ability on C or F instruments (knowledge of all fingerings) and have ability to sight-read and maintain a rhythmically independent part.

Hone your inner pulse, improve, and develop your sense of musical timing, explore different percussion instruments while playing with other participants in the world of percussion. Instruments will be provided for class.

Fiddling | Age 13 & up

Gain experience playing with others in this ensemble class! Students learn about and perform alternative styles of folk music that broadly represent the North American string music tradition. These styles include Old-time, Bluegrass, Celtic, Swing, and more. Prerequisite: At least three years playing your instrument(s), ability to play scales in few keys, name notes, and play in time. Be prepared to learn by ear.

Join in a creative, engaging, and community-building group experience. Explore the basics of ukulele fingerstyle techniques and applied music theory. Learn popular songs by playing together in a welcoming ensemble setting. Would you like to know more about the fundamentals?

Discover basic principles through the study of keyboard harmony, intervals, tonality, chord functions and progressions. Learn to analyze and better understand repertoire. Comprehension and performance ability will increase dramatically. Previous piano experience is not required; however, the keyboard is used to demonstrate music theory concepts.

ADAPTIVE & INCLUSIVE MUSIC

Musical Experiences | Age 12–18

This is a 30 minute, one-on-one class offered between the following time slots: 3:30-4:00pm and 4:00-4:30pm. Explore the elements of rhythm, melody and harmony in an inclusive, small-class setting. Experience the sounds and music you love at a welcoming, adaptive and creative pace. For more information and support, please contact CMC’S staff at 503-823-3177. Please let us know if you will be needing any ADA accommodations at least 10 business days in advance. Instructor may require purchase of additional materials not included in the registration fee. This class is wheelchair accessible, and is offered in partnership with PP&R Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation.
