Gentle Yoga I: Virtual

Originating in India, this centuries old practice of exercise revitalizes both mind and body. Improve focus, release stress and tension while increasing strength, flexibility, balance, energy and overall well-being. These live online gentle classes for older adults both feature slow flowing, mindful movement, linked to the breath. Choose the one that better suits your needs and experience.

Gentle I: This class is better for those who are new to the practice of yoga within the last year, returning to the practice after a lengthy break, or who look for pose options for limited mobility or injury recovery. It features a slower pace, more detailed instruction about basic poses and more options to adjust poses for individual needs.

Gentle II: This class is better for those who have had a regular yoga practice for more than a year. It features flowing movement, more challenging pose options, and a little less instruction regarding pose adjustments assuming participants have the experience to make some adjustments to suit their own needs.

Build Better Balance: Virtual

Explore how Mindfulness, Movement, and Making Safe your environment are the building blocks to feel more confident and secure as you age. While we cannot prevent 100% of all falls, there’s much we can do to reduce our chance of falling and decrease the risk of injury if we do fall. Each class includes fun, accessible movement practice and materials for improving home and personal safety.

I value these classes and have noticed that my balance has improved over the past year. I was able to participate this morning in the Zumba class modifying my movement due to Covid symptoms. Having the class via Zoom allows this. Love Lydia, she is a wonderful instructor.

Qigong: Virtual

The ancient Chinese form of Qigong is gaining popularity as a tool to improve mental concentration and balance the mind and emotions. Come explore techniques which pair breath and movement. Learn the basic theory of Qigong and discover why and how it works. Tap into your creative energy, balance your life, and learn to calm the mind. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a pillow to sit on.

Science of Stretching: Virtual

Got anxiety and insomnia? This class will help!This class is based on three principles to help you become more flexible and stress-free. 1. We use a breathing technique called 4:8 to calm and relax your nervous system. 2. We let tension and resistance go, releasing like a "wet noodle" into gravity.

3. We hold the posture for up to 5-minutes so that the muscles and connective tissues can let go and become more flexible. You will notice better sleep and a deep sense of calm after class.

Stretching in Chairs: Virtual

This live online class for older adults features stretches and movements linked to the breath, inspired by yoga, and done some while seated, and some while standing (optional) with hands on the chair. This class is accessible to most fitness and ability levels and can build mobility, balance, strength and flexibility.

Yin Yoga: Virtual

Feeling inflexible and tense? This class will help! Yin Yoga is designed to help you relieve tension and become more flexible, specifically in your hips and shoulders. Through a series of long-held (up to five minutes) postures, we allow the connective tissues that support your muscles and bones to stretch and become more elastic. Postures are seated on the floor, belly down, and/or lying on your back to create more joint mobility. Let the stress of life melt away in this virtual class.
