HOW TO APPLY

Submit your application via the PSU Application, Common Application, or Coalition Application and pay the $60 application fee. PSU will waive the application fee for eligible applicants.

Submit official transcripts from all schools attended.

OPTIONAL

Submit test scores. PSU accepts the SAT and ACT tests.

Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are not eligible to submit the FAFSA and you live in Oregon, you can submit the Oregon Student Aid Application (ORSAA). We encourage students to submit the FAFSA as early as possible. PSU's School code is 003216.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students earning college credit while in high school, through programs such as Early College or Running Start, are considered first years for admission purposes.

FIRST YEAR

Graduate from high school with a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 and earn grades of C- or better in the following areas:

English/Language Arts: 4 units

Math: 3 units including Algebra II (or equivalent)

Science: 3 units

Social Studies: 3 units

Oregon high school graduates only: 2 units of the same second language

TRANSFER

Students with 30 or more transferable quarter credits (20 semester credits) earned after high school graduation 2.25 cumulative GPA, or 2.0 with a transferable associate degree

Complete WR 121 or equivalent with a grade of C- or better

Oregon high school graduates only: complete 2 units of the same second language

Portland State University accepts applications for each term on a rolling admissions basis. Some programs require an additional application for admission or to enroll in upper-division coursework. All dates listed are for fall start term. pdx.edu/admissions/deadlines

COST OF ATTENDANCE

This is an estimate using an average number of 15 credits per term. Mandatory fees are included in this amount and cover services such as access to the Health Center and Recreation Center. Students majoring in programs in the College of the Arts, Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, The School of Business, and the University Honors College pay a higher rate per credit. Amounts are based on 2022-2023 costs.

This is an estimate for materials you’ll need for your classes including textbooks, lab materials, art supplies, software, notebooks, pens, and pencils. $798

Costs will vary based on whether you live on campus, off campus or at home. On campus meal plans are available to anyone including students who live off campus.

Your transportation costs will vary depending on whether you live at home, on campus, or off campus. This estimate includes the cost of public transportation to get to and from campus, to get around Portland, on-campus parking, and costs to go home for breaks.

Personal expenses could include things like toiletries, clothes, and entertainment.

PSU requires students to have comprehensive health insurance. Students who already have health insurance can waive the PSU Health Insurance Plan.

SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS

At PSU, our goal is to give you an excellent education at an affordable cost, helping you graduate with as little debt as possible. All admitted students are automatically considered for all programs listed below.

THE HONORS COLLEGE AT PSU IS a vibrant and supportive community of learners with the opportunities and challenges of a rigorous curriculum. Honors courses are part of your degree, not an addition to it — they fulfill PSU’s general education, writing, and many degree requirements and pair with any major at PSU.

First year students live in first year-only floors in Broadway and Ondine. Transfer and continuing students can live in any of our seven residence halls. Students admitted to the Honors College have the option to live in Stephen Epler in an honorsspecific community. We’re located in southwest Portland, which means when you live on campus, you’ll be immersed into the city center. First year students who live 25 miles or further from Portland State University are required to live on campus during their first year. Apply for housing by June 15 for a guaranteed spot.
