LAST MATCH RECAP The Timbers conceded two goals in the final minutes of the first half and were unable to overcome the deficit in a 2-0 loss against Eastern Conference side New York Red Bulls in front of sellout crowd of 21,144 fans at Providence Park on Sept. 20. The loss, Portland’s first home loss since April 12, ended the team’s home unbeaten run at 10 consecutive matches. New York took the lead in the 43rd minute as midfielder Felipe fired a knuckling, long-distance effort that found the back of the net. In first-half stoppage time, defender Damien Perrinelle doubled the Red Bulls’ advantage with a looping header from close range off an assist from midfielder Sacha Kljestan.
Providence Park opened on April 14, 2011, in front of a sold-out crowd in the Timbers first-ever home match as an MLS team. The club proceeded to sell out all of its regular-season home games in the team’s first four MLS seasons. Spanning the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the Timbers compiled an MLS-club record 22-game unbeaten streak (12-0-10) at Providence Park from April 6, 2013 to June 1, 2014. The streak ranks as the third-longest all-time in MLS history.
