MEMORIES OF THE CLUB
Fiction is catching up with us. The catastrophe scenario of bad movies has become our reality. Dystopia has become our daily life.For many, the recomforting proximity of unknown bodies is now past history. The sweaty and smoky basements of the clubs where we used to mingle is a fading memory. What can we actually remember from these dark spaces? Clubs have been spaces of emancipation. They have offered opportunities for rebellious actions and allow to transcend social control. They have been the outlet of negative tensions as well as the incubator of new positive relations. There is no doubt that new unexpected spaces will be imagined by today’s youth to fulfil these needs and emancipate from the totalitarian control imposed by fearful fuckers. During this week, we will try to map and rebuild these spaces using our souvenirs and the legends that are still told by the people who danced in them. Using simple materials, we will draw and model the clubs that we can remember. This mental survey exercise will allow us create an imaginary archive for the future. Based on our findings we will imagine new forms for the clubs to come. We will design spaces that enhance desire, create unexpected experiences and lead to wild uncontrollable parties. We will reflect specifically on the sound system, modern totem of the music god. Finally, we will design a secret party and the space to host it. we will keep this action a complete secret until the last minute and develop strategies to be as loud and unnoticed as possible.
