The project is to make a small book, both as process and outcome , a student research on the nature of the thing, a conversation on architecture held over seven days at the PortoAcademy, in text and drawings. The book is a list based on something we all know, almost as common as song, in english - the language of the conversation and the Academy. It is an alphabet, a way of learning, the beginning of speech. The students, from 16 different places, are arranged alphabetically ,naturally, by the Academy. They debate the fundamentals of the subject. Question arise, for instance is Ziggurat is more important then Zoom, and so on‌.problems are rehearsed and reduced to theirs initials to make a list of project, an ABC of architecture, a small manifesto and so as a group, lexicon thesis on this most complex subject, made simple. Required readings is “About 2 Squaresâ€? by El Lissitzky, in the tradition of paper architecture. Each page of the book is in the size of B5 (another required of the academy). The page is therefore the site, in plan section and elevation and the scale varies. Architecture begins as a square at the center of the page, the circle is nature, the triangle is whatever it needs to be - a vitruvian proposition. N is for North, is it always up the page, of course and Trajan, the letter itself Helvetica, the brief for the work is the word.

The initial of the work is therefore a figure in the plan, the section and the elevation. It is also a footnote to the index, arrange at the back, of course, and arranged in alphabetical order the student definition and specifications: title, location, address, program, size, weight, cost, design life, material, structure and author and it is a contract. The problem is therefore chosen by the students, the definition of architecture is as always how to square the circle of form, function, use, services, rock, scissor, paper, Firmitas, utilitas, venustas, the triple imperative, the game of design.
