SUMMER DREAMS

letter from the editor

I

t’s with great pleasure that I share with you just how ecstatic we all are for the successful launch of Posh Kids Magazine! We were so thrilled at the responses we’ve received from our fabulous readers and the appreciation of our hard work was a true accomplishment for our entire team. Thank you for enjoying each and every passionate detail behind our first issue and we are very encouraged to continue to provide a fantastic product for everyone, especially the parents of Posh kids. From an exciting interview and photo shoot with the adorable Tyler Huan to our Hot Mama story (of which I personally enjoyed reflecting upon as a breastfeeding mother who understands that special bond), we were able to deliver unique perspectives in fashion, culture, and family fun which can really encourage each child’s individuality, sense of security, and self esteem. Our outdoor shoot in the iconic Bryant Park was just one of many ways in which we were able to display trends that could be enjoyed in more typical settings to showcase our dedication to styles in luxury but also everyday life and anything else in-between. Our interviewers really enjoy searching for these sorts of varieties of articles for such a broad audience while also allowing each reader to find quality information based on their own needs.

March 19th, 2016 was an incredible day for our exclusive fashion show featuring talented designers and models coming together to build stronger relationships of the various industrial segments. The enjoyment displayed by such wonderful children set the tone of how inspiring fashion can be to young people and gave adults the opportunity to connect with their own little stars in such a unique way with their early successes increasing the interest of everyone’s brand. We recognize the sacrifices and hard work of everyone as we continue to challenge ourselves with the motivation to exceed their expectations. As we take full advantage of the momentum built from last month, I hope you enjoy each and every page of our second issue of Posh Kids Magazine. We’re pulling out all the stops for you, our readers, to keep growing and leading in ways that benefit you and your beautiful families! With Posh, there is nothing but the best for our kids, please enjoy...

Mae Gabriel lives in Jersey, Channel Islands with her family as a wife, mother, and full-time Accountant. She is passionately creative and you can find her on Instagram [@maegabriel] and her lifestyle blog [http://www.maegabriel.com] where she shares food recipes, interior inspiration directly from her home, as well as kids’ fashion and family travel.

I

ndeed, the one word to sum it all up is “paradise”. That’s where we had just been. Before the dreaded holiday blues started to kick in hard, I thought to remind myself once again: the paradise. It’s where the only thing that is blue… is the sky. Deciding upon where to visit on holiday was quite hard for us because there are so many places we have yet to discover. While there are a lot of destinations to consider, our priorities include Hayden’s comfort. As he is almost 3 years old, we feel that he is still too young for many vacations that are more designed for older kids. We took him to Hong Kong Disney Land once and he didn’t really enjoy it as much since he couldn’t go on any rides and the weather was hot and humid. One thing we do know for sure is how much he enjoys being in the pool. We also wanted somewhere with good food since we always travel with our belly in mind, a spa for us, and a suitable pool for Hayden, all of which being necessities. Overall, we just wanted somewhere that we can truly relax and be a hide away! We have had such a busy time of late and, not having a proper holiday last year, we were aching for some luxury of quietness and especially family quality time. In the end, we chose Six Senses, Yao Noi in Thailand and opted for the Hideaway Pool Villa experience. “The Villa” was exactly that: a hideaway, with lush tropical greens surrounding us. In the morning you can hear all of the birds chirping away. It was lovely to sit outside with my coffee listening to them sing to me. I felt like I was in the jungle. We have been to Thailand before and had stayed on the sister island of Koh Yao Yai so we were familiar with the travel that’s involved (we are very lucky that Hayden travels well over long distances) and what is usually on offer from their island resorts. The minute we had arrived at our destination this particular time, we felt the welcome like no other. From the airport pick-up to the boat transfer and finally to setting foot on the private jetty of Six Senses, we were transported to a land of pure bliss. I’d like to credit Tanya, our lovely GEM (Guest Experience Manager) for this as well as for being a sort of personal butler. If you do happen to go there and meet her, please say hello for me, give her a big hug, and tell her that Hayden misses her!

If you are thinking of going, my advice would be to lose 10 pounds before you go to this place just to make room for all the amazing food to be had (here we go again with that word).

Each villa is designated with their own GEM who make your stay at Six Senses as memorable and comfortable as possible. They look after you very well and it’s always with a smile. From making sure your choice of fresh fruits are delivered daily to organizing memorable trips across the surrounding islands, they are always only a phone call away regardless of the time of day. On Food.. Food contributes heavily on our decisions when it comes to our holiday destinations. Six Senses did not disappoint on this part with cuisines such as Japanese, Indian, Italian, and of course Thai- all of which had exceeded our expectations. During our stay, as lovers of Thai food that we are, we opted towards the local cuisine. The authentic flavours of Thai food had me eating fish curry for breakfast. You might squirm at the very thought of this but, oh boy, it was so delicious! Our stay included the buffet-style breakfast that was catered very well for our international palates. Other favourites included were Gaeng Neung, which is Wagyu Beef Red Curry that has simmered for 24 hours where the morsels of meat just melt in your mouth, and the River Prawns Pad Thai each ranking at the top of my list of must-eats. The prawns I’ve known before didn’t quite match the sizes of these where they look more like lobsters! Surprisingly, Lee really enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Curry from Chef V’s specials. He doesn’t usually prefer Indian curries but he couldn’t get enough of it on this holiday and he even had it specifically for our last dinner. As expected, Hayden really enjoyed the Italian Meat Spaghetti. I’m not exaggerating that it tasted just like the spaghetti I had in Sienna and was very impressive for being off of a children’s menu. They also hosted a Seafood barbeque feast while we were there where the choices were unbelievable and everything was so fresh. I cannot fully describe in words how special that night was so instead I’ll just use my favourite one: “AMAZING”! Even when we went on our Island hopping, we were spoiled with the vast selection of tasty lunch boxes. Oh, and free ice cream. All day. Everyday! Need I say more?

22

POSH KIDS MAGAZINE / JUNE 2016

On things to do. There are many activities and excursions on offer from cooking classes to castaway island experiences that will spoil you for your choices. We chose to do the island hopping, Sunset Castaway picnic, cooking classes, island tour, the Sunrise breakfast at the Hilltop Reserve, and of course, the Wellness Spa day. We didn’t want to do too much more as the very aspect of our holiday is to relax and enjoy each other’s company in our hideaway villa. One might say that this place caters more towards honeymooners or couples in general with the limited amount of activities for children on offer, yet this didn’t seem to deter many families from coming here as there were a few with children of all ages. You’ll mostly see these other vacationers during breakfast and dinner as they tend to stay in their villas to relax or out attending the excursions. Speaking of breakfast, one of the more interesting things that you can do is to collect your own eggs for your breakfast from the chicken huts. While Hayden really liked the idea at first, he did get a little bit scared of the chickens when we had arrived. He preferred to simply watch outside of the fence. There is also an outdoor cinema located by the beach. We went one evening after dinner but didn’t stay too long as we were a little frightened of the mosquitos and with it being so dark. Quite surprisingly, on the whole of our holiday I had only been bit twice and there were hardly noticeable. The boys got away unscathed, of course. Something important for this type of destination to note is that they seem to have the mosquitos under control surrounding the resort. Six Senses truly is a luxury resort. I had not known that there are over a dozen types of pillows to be had and choose from (imagine silk pillows). You can also opt for scented ones where we loved the lemongrass. Overall, it had been a wonderful holiday for us. Six Senses has certainly played their part in creating the memorable holiday that we wanted and their personal service is second to none. Will we go back? Most definitely.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

BLU & BLUE What inspired you to start the line Blu & Blue? Blu & Blue is born from a family heritage of designing and manufacturing premium quality denim clothing for more than 35 years. We have been working behind the scenes until now and have launched our own brand. Behind each of our products is our expertise from years of experience in creating high quality clothing that is well-designed and completely safe for kids, which I wanted to bring to our customers. This is what inspired me to start the line. Blu & Blue is focused on premium denim clothing, which is super soft and 100% safe for kids. Hence, the name Blu & Blue. What really sets us apart: For us, quality is the single most important factor. We produce each garment in-house that allows us to achieve superior quality. We have a quality assurance team that is specifically trained to monitor quality during and after post-production We hand select our fabrics from best mills around the world such as Kaihara mill in Japan, Turkey, Italy, Korea, China. We have our own washing facilities with specialists from Italy and Turkey who work on our denim washes. We also use special softeners and wash cycles to make our clothes butter soft. We test our fabrics for comfort, shrinkage, color fastness, bleeding to ensure long lasting color and texture. We provide safe and tested products to our customers. Each garment is tested for durability, construction, and strength. For example, we pass every garment through needle detector machine for 100% safety of kids; all the hardware and buttons that we use are nickel and toxins free. We demand a higher standard not just in wardrobe, but

also in our production and practices. We believe in sustainable manufacturing. We use solar panels for heating water used for washing fabrics. We process and treat 300,000 liters of chemical water everyday. What sizes do you carry? We carry all sizes starting from newborn 0-6 months up to toddlers 5 years. We also have collections for younger kids from 6-16 yrs. Do you plan to branch out in the future to larger sizes or do you have more of a focus? For now, we cover a significant range of age groups from new born through 16 years old. We want to focus on the design and making the best styles for these age groups. We have also expanded our product lines to accessories where we have hats, hairbands, and bow ties all in chambrays and denims. What inspires you when sitting down to plan out the following season’s line? My inspiration comes from my belief that stylish clothing can be comfortable and also that less is more. What we offer at Blu & Blue is not seen anywhere else. Our styles are elevated denim styles that are beyond the regular jeans. They are more chic, smart and elegant day wear, classic yet contemporary styles that have multiple lifecycles and can be worn throughout the year. The fabrics we use are very easy to care for and durable. That compiled with the fact that we use best quality fabrics and experts who create these garments is incomparable value we bring to our customer. What markets are you in currently and where do you see your brand in the future? We are currently selling in specialty boutique stores all across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Kuwait, China, and Taiwan. We are also selling at online retailers as well as department stores nationwide. We have the capability to meet growing demand from our buyers and are open to larger volumes as well.

PKM: What item in your closet do you wear the most? Ashley: For the most part, I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. I also love my combat boots and I wear them all the time. I am a bit of a tomboy, but I really love getting dressed up for premieres and events! I love the different designers and the dresses I get to wear. PKM: Who is your favorite designer? Ashley: I would have to say that Diane von Furstenberg is my favorite. I modeled her new line on The Today Show and loved all the outfits! I also love Armani Jr. and Marc Jacobs. PKM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? Ashley: I think one thing that would surprise people is that I am a total science nerd! I love chemistry and doing experiments. I am actually growing crystals right now! PKM: Which actress inspires you? Ashley: I absolutely love Natalie Zea, she was amazing to work with. I learned a lot working with her on The Detour. She is so professional and learned how to remain focused on the scene by watching her. Even though the scene was super funny, she never laughed until it was done, and that helped me. PKM: How is working with your on “the detour” set? Ashley: Working on The Detour has been the most fun job I’ve had so far! Jason, Natalie and Liam became like family to me and we all grew really close. I feel very grateful and lucky to work with them. PKM: Do you like dogs or cats? Ashley: I’m a dog person. They’re playful, loyal, and make you feel better when you’re sad. I hope my mom let’s me have one soon! PKM: If you were having a dinner party, which 3 celebrities would you invite? Ashley: If I was having a dinner party, I would invite Taylor Swift, Adele and Ed Sheeran. They all seem like good role models and really cool people. PKM: Favorite Food? Ashley: My favorite food is a big heaping bowl of macaroni and cheese. Basically anything with cheese while bacon comes in at a close second. PKM: Favorite Sport? Ashley: My two favorite sports are Tae Kwon Do (I’m a blue belt) and I really love swimming!

POSH KIDS MAGAZINE / JUNE 2016

POSH SPOTLIGHT

KHLOEE JAE

PKM: First we must say, Khloee Jae is one of the cutest little models. When did she start to become such an amazing little fashionista? KM: Khloee Jae started as a shy “threenager. I heard about a local model search for a boutique and entered a photo of Khloee. She was chosen out of hundreds of models vying for the spot. Khloee Jae came alive in front of the camera. She was a natural! PKM: Wow, that is awesome! How long has she been modeling? KM: She has been modeling for two years, and has modeled for over 100 shops and boutiques on Instagram. PKM: A 100 shops and boutiques!!! Very impressive. What are some of her favorite brands? KM: Some of our favorite brands are Joyfolie, Kardashian Kids, Rags to Riches, and Tutu Du Monde. She is a girly girl that loves to dress up, but be comfortable. PKM: We love her tastes in clothing! Those are some of our favorite brands also. We know every child has a celebrity they would love to meet, who would Khloee want to meet? KM: Khloee loves to sing and dance. She is obsessed with Musical.ly, and loves Carson Lueders. She wants to meet him someday.

So how much fun was it working on this project? I bet there was tons of laughs on set. Oh my goodness! The Boss was super fun. There were sooo many laughs, of course! When you are with so many comedic geniuses it is almost impossible not to laugh. I think Kristen had the most trouble of all of us not laughing though! Did you enjoy working alongside Melissa McCarthy and Kristin Bell? Yes, of course. It was so much fun. They are both so kind and such amazing actors. We had such a fun storyline with the Darnell’s Darlings and as silly as it got, there was also so much heart to the movie. Kristen and I hit it off right away and our mother/ daughter bond was very real. She and I were both born in Michigan so we had a Michigan bond as well. Melissa is not only so so funny, but, she is one of the sweetest people I have met in my entire life. She is, of course, is an improv master from her time at the groundlings...I had always wanted to take a class at the Groundling Theater in Los Angeles, but I was not old enough (you have to be 11 and I was 10) and so I got the best groundlings master class ever working with her for 2 months!

Who’s on the top of your list of stars to work with? If you can work with anyone in the world? Oh gosh, that is a hard question. There are so many people I hope to work with someday. To be honest, after I saw the movie Room, I have become obsessed with Brie Larson...I hope I get to work with her one day...and Will Ferrell...yep... Will Ferrell too. You also play Piper in Nickelodeon’s TV series “Henry Danger”. Is her character much different from your own personality? 100% YES! Piper is a crazy one. She is always yelling and angry and I am pretty much the opposite. Piper yells at her brother Henry a lot and bosses her parents around. I don’t think that would go over too well at my house with my brothers or my parents! Is there anything that you want fans to know about you that they might not? Fans? That is a weird word I am not used to yet. Not sure how to answer that question. Um...I like to turn the music up as loud as it can go in the car and sing at the top of my lungs with my mom. I think that is fun. We also hear you have a second movie coming out

soon. Can you tell us a little about that and what character you play? In the movie Mother’s Day, I play Vicky. I live with my dad, Bradley (played by Jason Sudeikis) and sister Rachell (played by Jessi Case). Our mom has recently passed away and we are celebrating our first mother’s day since her death. We are all having a really hard time because we miss our mom so much and our storyline deals with how we get through our first year without her. Wow so busy for 11yrs old and so successful! Is acting something you plan to continue doing for years to come or do you see yourself breaking into anything additional? I can’t really imagine doing anything else other than acting. I hope to be able to continue for sure! Anything you want to tell kids out there trying to break into the business? I would say they should start by taking an acting class for sure. If they are involved in a church or have a community theater in their town they should audition and see if it is something that they enjoy. You have to love acting and becoming other characters and if you love it and are passionate about it then ask your parents to help you get an agent. A lot of people think you have to live in a big city like Los Angeles or New York to have an agent, but my first agent was in Michigan and that is where I booked my first 4 jobs! Great Advice! We just wrapped up your shoot with Posh Kids Magazine and we did something a little different than what you’re used to with some roles you play, went a bit more high fashion with you which you seemed to love (haha)- am I right? I loved the fashion today!!!!! I still can’t get over these clothes and the hair and the DOGS! Fashion plays such a huge role in creating the character I play on TV or film. Piper on Henry Danger has a very specific sense of style.. she wears a lot of pink...haaaa. I don’t wear pink really very much so when I put on her wardrobe it helps me get into character. Today I felt like when I put on each different look I took on another character. It was so incredible to watch as they added pieces to each look that I would have never thought to add. Just when I thought they were done they added one more element...like the belt with the long skirt! How did you feel on set? I really felt amazing today on set! One of my favorite show is ANTM and so today I got to play and used what I have learned from Tyra! haha Do you have a favorite designer or fashion inspiration? There are so many great fashion designers out there and I don’t really have a favorite, but I enjoy wearing all different designer’s clothing. What’s your favorite thing to wear, what’s Ella’s style? I like to wear anything from my favorite soft cozy jeans to a glamorous dress and rock it with a pair of edgy boots. Boots are my favorite thing right now...and

bomber jackets...I love my bomber jackets. (giggles) And this shoot was also special for you I hear for one other reason? YES! The best part, we’ve teamed up with Animal Haven Shelter of NYC. I am a big advocate for shelter animals and I’m really proud to have had a part in this shoot to bring awareness to so many animals needing good homes! I wanted to take them all home but we already have quite a few at the Anderson household.

A special thank you to Animal Haven Shelter of NYC for allowing us to feature their adoptable dogs for our editorial with Ella Anderson. To be able to help raise awareness on shelter animals is an honor and we hope that our readers enjoyed this as much as Ella and our Posh Kids Magazine crew had while shooting. There are shelters all over the world with animals that need a loving home. Please visit your local shelter to find out more information.
