Educate - Eliminate - Elevate Written by: Susie Q

fter losing my husband in an accident late last year, I was dreading Valentine’s Day this year. So, when I got an invitation to a unique, private, cannabis dinner party and a chance to meet new people, I jumped at it. Best decision ever! Picture this… Your Uber driver glides up the long, winding driveway and past the security gate before dropping you in front of an amazing, private, beach-front venue. You make your way up the path between buildings towards the sound of music and laughter. As you reach the patio, you’re greeted by Joshua and Jackie with Elevated Engagements, your hosts for the evening, and a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. The venue consists of two separate modern buildings with huge windows facing the ocean. They say “timing is everything,” and you realize yours is perfect! You’re able to grab a glass of champagne and a few cannabis-infused nibbles from the charcuterie tray just as Mother Nature begins her nightly masterpiece. This Valentine’s Day she chose to paint the sky with intense yellows and oranges to mark the end

of another perfect day in paradise. You think to yourself how blessed you are to live here as you witness five graceful pelicans gliding silently just above the waves as the sun slides finally into the sea. Heading back towards the venue, the smell of the sea breeze is interrupted by another delicious and familiar scent. You realize that wafting out of the second building are billows of marijuanascented smoke, so you head that way to check it out. This room is the Chill Lounge, staged with couches and tables forming conversation pits here and there throughout the room. Rather than Bars and Bartenders, this event has Bud Bars with Budtenders at the ready. You name it, they have it! You make a mental note to check this place out more carefully later, but right now you have another important appointment to keep. Heading for the staircase in the main building, you’re blown away by the delicious smells coming from the prep kitchen. There’s a flurry of activity there, as the Chef Ivan and his team from Mangia Ghanja work feverishly to prepare this evening’s special meal. You make your

way upstairs to the private rooms where a professional massage therapist is waiting to rub the kinks of the day from your back and shoulders with cannabisinfused massage oils and lotions. The therapist asks you to enjoy a sweet treat while he explains what you can expect from the massage. The cannabisinfused chocolate covered strawberries are the perfect thing to help you get nice and relaxed even before you get onto the table. An hour later you’re so relaxed that you can’t even spell the word “stress”, so you make your way back to the Chill Lounge for closer investigation. Joshua, Jackie and Jordan did a great job creating a cool hangout for their guests. The Chill Lounge has four stations supplying everything from edibles to topicals, and everything in between. Station 1 was sponsored by Mary’s Jane, showcasing the uses of cannabis in a wide variety of scrubs, bath bombs, lotions, etc. Station 2 was the edibles station, offering red velvet cannabis cookies and 24-carat gold topped cannabis brownies! to yourself that these brownies must be what Bruno Mars was singing about in his hit song “24-carat Magic”! You enjoy watching others dab, but know that this is an entirely new way of enjoying cannabis… When the “Dinner is Served” announcement is made, everyone heads back to the main building. On the way out of the Chill Lounge you pass by a fountain filled with infused chocolate and a variety of dippable goodies, and make a mental note to revisit that little gem later in the evening! The tables are decorated impeccably with beautiful cannabiscontaining floral arrangements that remind you of the amazing sunset earlier in the evening. Each place setting is topped with a single marijuana leaf, as if to greet you and invite you to just dig in! Finding a seat at one of the tables, you are quickly engrossed in learning more about the others seated around you. As the easy conversations begin to flow you realize you are enjoying your meal with some of the movers and shakers in this new industry. To your left is Ali, the founder of EventHi.io (an event registration company specializing in cannabis-related events). To your right is Jay from Urbn Leaf, arguably the largest and most influential dispensary in San Diego. As the conversations continue and expand around the table you see you’re also in the company of Adelia, founder of the Direct Cannabis Network, and the team of Kyle and Vinny of Highlanders Distribution. It occurs to you that you are witnessing the birth of a whole new industry, and are beyond honored to be part of this wonderful collaboration and idea exchange. Exciting times for sure! Everyone had been given the opportunity to pre-select their entrée for the evening… Braised Beef Medallions, Ratatouille, or Lobster Risotto… each exquisitely prepared, beautifully plated, and oh so delicious! Hands down, this was a five-star restaurant quality meal! Dessert came next… infused chocolate ganache with CBD-infused rose petal ice cream. The team at Mangia Gahnja is to be applauded!! You think to yourself that you would hire them in a country minute if you ever host an upscale event or want to treat your friends to a unique tasting party at your home. As dinner wrapped up, Joshua invites everyone out to the patio for special live entertainment. You hold your breath as you see a performer twirling fire on the back lawn. Realizing this is very near the chocolate fountain you saw earlier in the evening, you slip quickly inside to dip some bananas, pretzels, and marshmallows in the infused chocolate, and then find the perfect vantage point to take in the show. It might be the high talking, but watching a man dance with fire is mesmerizing! What a perfect way to close out a truly magical night.

“They say “timing is everything,” and you realize yours is perfect! You’re able to grab a glass of champagne and a few cannabis-infused nibbles from the charcuterie tray just as Mother Nature begins her nightly masterpiece.” 10 | PotSaver.net

And, as if ALL THAT were not enough, guests were presented with gift boxes as they were leaving for the evening… you know, like the gift bags the celebrities get during the Oscars! In this case, however, these gift boxes were generously filled with all things cannabis… a variety of joints, flower, bath bombs, edibles, etc.) Unbelievable! It is not lost on me that two months ago I could not have attended this sort of an event… not legally, at least. With the legalization of recreational cannabis in California, the catering, holistic healthcare, and event industries are teaming up with the dispensaries and growers to create a whole new way of entertaining. You might say it’s a “budding” industry!

What Do I Do if I Get Too High? by Teffy D.

It happens. Sometimes we overindulge a little too much on cannabis, but by the time we realize it… it’s too late. Anxiety and extreme paranoia – That’s what overindulgence looked like for me, anyway. Others have claimed light-headedness and dizziness, too. Regardless of how it shows up, all of these things are signs that you may have taken in too much THC. Now what? Even if you are lucky enough to never have experienced any of the previously mentioned symptoms, keep reading. You may find something that you can use to help a friend later.

WHATEVER YOU DO… STAY CALM I know, I know… easier said than done – Especially when waves of scary emotions are crashing over you. Concentrating on your breathing and taking deep breaths could make all the difference, though. Take a deep breath in and hold for several seconds, then completely exhale. Repeating this a few times will assist the body and brain with regulating. This will weaken the high for you.

STAY HYDRATED This is a preventative measure you can stay on top of at all times. Staying hydrated helps to ensure that all the systems are flowing smoothly. Dehydration exhibits similar traits to that of a cannabis

“overdose”. If you begin to feel dizzy, get a headache, or get a stomach ache, grab a bottle of water. This helps when you are struggling to come down from a high.

HOUSEHOLD REMEDY I don’t know a single person who does not have pepper in their pantry at home. Pepper has been used as a regular household remedy for years to combat anxiety and paranoia. It has been shown that chewing on black peppercorns can significantly lower tension from too much THC.

MOTHER NATURE Sometimes, nature is the best remedy. If you are feeling too overwhelmed from the anxiety or other feelings induced by

the cannabis, try going for a walk. Not only will it exert the negative energy out of you, but the fresh air will help to rid any uneasy feelings.

HOT BATH OR SHOWER Even if you aren’t having a bad trip, hot showers and hot baths are the best! If you’re feeling some backlash from your THC, try taking a hot and steamy shower or bath. The hot water is soothing, while breathing in the steam replenishes oxygen and provides hydration.

CITRUS Citrus fruits are extremely good at cutting down a high that’s gotten out of hand. All you have to do is

place a piece of citrus fruit in your mouth and deal with the sourness as long as you can. Not only will the natural enzymes help reduce the psychoactive effect, it will leave your breath smelling great!

COFFEE Most of us have coffee on a regular basis, anyway… But who knew about this? Coffee is one of the most effective ways to reduce your high. The coffee beans have a sobering property to them that will almost instantly leave the consumer focused and alert.

CBD Last, but certainly not least, is a personal favorite of mine. CBD actually comes from the cannabis plant, too. But this molecule does not come accompanied by the psychoactive effect THC brings. CBD actually counteracts the psychoactive part of THC, and helps to balance the consumer out.

TEFFY’S THOUGHTS We make mistakes sometimes. The first time I ever smoked cannabis, I definitely took in too much THC. But back then, we weren’t privy to all of these helpful tips yet. Luckily for you all, this information is readily available for all, and more is expected to be on the way as research continues. Most people I know began their cannabis journey with a silly story that they can now look back on and laugh at. If you’ve had one bad experience, don’t worry. That is not a “tell” for the way all of your future cannabis experiences will go. You just need to find which after method works best for you.

Women & Weed Top 10 Products for Women

I

Article by:

f there’s one thing we’ve learned about the women in San Diego it’s that they love their weed. On average, Urbn Leaf sees around 1,000+ customers a day, of which 450-500 are female. In honor of International Women’s Day, we’ve put together a list of the four most common ailments our female customers are experiencing and our top 10 products to combat them.

PMS/Menstrual Cramps

Anxiety/Stress

Bloating, cramps, migraines, hot flashes, back pain, mood swings, and fatigue - Every woman deals with it at one point in their lives, so it’s no surprise the women leading the cannabis industry have developed products dedicated to relieving the symptoms of “Aunt Flow.”

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, women are twice as likely to suffer from generalized anxiety disorder than men. Many factors can play into marijuana’s effects on anxiety, such as, strain genetics, tolerance, and the state of your surroundings, to name a few, which can all contribute to how you feel after sparking one up.

For instance, Whoopi Goldberg and Maya Elisabeth founded a female centric company that designs products specifically for relief from menstrual discomfort. Rub some topical ointment on your achy areas, add a few tincture drops into your chamomile tea, then soak away the pain in a nice warm bath! Recommended Products: • Whoopi & Maya - Rub, Relax, Soak, & Savor • Foria - Relief

Cannabis contains over 100 different cannabinoids, aka compounds that interact with the body’s own endocannabinoid system. The two most commonly known are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC activates CB1 and CB2 receptors and produces psychoactive effects which can relieve anxiety for some, but for others it might actually intensify the anxious feeling. CBD on the other hand does not have psychoactive properties and has been known to counteract anxiety inducing effects. CBD tinctures are a great way to test out the waters and fight off anxiety before moving onto smoking flower. Recommended Products: • Leef Thrival CBD Tincture • Papa & Barkley Relief Soak • Honey Vape Blackberry Kush

Insomnia

Depression

Studies have shown that females are easily disrupted during sleep, resulting in sleeping disorders. Smoking an indica strain before bed or eating an edible is a nice natural alternative to taking sleeping pills and dealing with their side effects.

Once again women are twice as likely to suffer from depression than men, so it’s no surprise ladies have been lighting up to lift their moods. A nice sativa strain can help snap anyone right out of that funk and get those creative juices flowing.

Recommended Products: • Flower: Indica strains: Venom OG, Tahoe OG, Blackberry Kush • Slugworth’s candy • Dosist Sleep 50 or 200 Cannabis can also be used to help stimulate appetite, aid in weight management, provoke sexual feeling, and so much more! Ladies, say good bye to all those bad vibes It’s time to start Feelin’ Good.

A great option for those who can’t smoke is Lavender Chamomile lotion from Tree Lotion 420. Ladies at Urbn Leaf love the lavender and chamomile as it helps eliminate nervous tension and relieves pain. Recommended Products: • Flower: Sativa strains: Jack Herer, Platinum Dream, Pineapple Express • Tree Lotion 420 - Lavender Chamomile

WHAT ARE CANNABIS EXTRACTS, OR CONCENTRATES?

C -STEPHAN S.

annabis extracts are also commonly known as “concentrates” or “dabs”. There are many other names that can be used for this type of cannabis product depending on the consistency. A cannabis extract is essentially all of the medicinally beneficial parts of the cannabis plant pulled from the plant during an extraction process. There are various methods used for this, depending on the companies method of choice. In a comparable sense, it is the same idea as Essential Oils, such as Lavender. A few different consistencies are known as shatter, wax, budder, crumble, live resin, rosin, sugar, etc. Tip of The Day: Ask what is in your Pre-Roll before purchasing. 30 | PotSaver.net

I’M THINKING ABOUT TRYING EDIBLES FOR THE FIRST TIME. ANY TIPS? -LINDSEY A. If it’s your very first time trying edibles, then I have plenty of tips for you! First things first… You can ALWAYS eat more, but you cannot eat less. Start off with small portions and allow some time to pass to see how your body is responding. If you aren’t feeling anything after about 45 minutes and you feel comfortable, try taking another small bite. For some, edibles are very potent and overpowering. It’s very important to pace yourself. For others, though, edibles may not affect you at all. For me, my metabolism is too fast. The cannabis has to go through more systems when orally consumed and swallowed, so it breaks down too fast and isn’t able to reach my blood stream. Everyone’s body responds differently. Never base how much of an edible you should eat on another’s tolerance level.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CONSUMPTION METHOD? WHY? -MELISSA M. It depends on what I am doing! Since I work in the cannabis industry, smelling like cannabis isn’t usually an issue. I am definitely a sucker for the traditional way of

smoking flower out of a blunt, bowl or bong. If I need to medicate quickly or don’t want to smell like weed, dabs are my go to. It is a quick and easy process once you’ve done it a few times, and the smell doesn’t stick to you!

HOW CAN I AVOID GETTING A CRAZY COUGH AFTER I TAKE A DAB? -JORDAN A. There could be a few reasons you are getting that crazy cough. First and foremost, if you haven’t dabbed before or don’t dab often, your throat may just be adjusting to the different vapor consistency. You also could be taking your dab too hot. If heating with a torch, it’s generally a safe bet to heat to red, then allow to cool for one minute.

CAN I SMOKE ANYWHERE NOW THAT CANNABIS IS LEGAL? -PHILIP W. No, just because cannabis is legal now does not mean that rules don’t apply. You still are not supposed to consume cannabis in public, though if you are caught, there are a lot less legal ramifications. #potsaver | 31
