LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Welcome to Issue Fourteen of the Power Electrics ‘Inside Paper’ Newsletter. This is my first issue as Editor and I’ve really enjoyed working with the team on some great content. It’s been a busy few months since I joined in February; I’ve attended the first exhibition with our brand new stand (page 10), visited Bridgend to take part in the WPD Engagement Day (page 4) and toured the home of a massive project in Chippenham (page 9). Thank you to everyone who contributed to producing this issue. Please get in touch or visit the Marketing Department if you have any ideas for next time. Thanks, Jean-Pierre Lutz

WPD ENGINEERS VISIT BRIDGEND FOR ENGAGEMENT DAY Power Electrics hosted Western Power Distribution Engineers over two days in Bridgend. Here’s what happened...
4
We recently welcomed 100 WPD Engineers from South Wales to our Bridgend depot for engagement days designed to help build our relationship with Western Power Distribution. Held on April 28th and 29th, a mixture of sales, marketing, hire and technical staff organised the event which was very well received by all of those who attended. Technical Support & Training Manager Neil Shackleton presented a generator sync demo, while EHS&Q Manager Brett Mann hosted a health & safety workshop. The engineers were offered food, drink and encouraged to ask any questions about Power Electrics that they had, so we can continue to improve our service for them. They also had the chance to try our rugby challenge and take home a selection of Power Electrics branded goodies.
Sales Director, Steve Williams commented on the success of the two days: “Thank you all for your contribution to the WPD Wales Engagement Days at Bridgend Depot. All the areas of our company came together to organise a very professional event. It was well received by WPD and I’m sure will help encourage a closer working relationship between the two companies going forward.” Steve also outlined plans to take the engagement day format to other locations: “Now we have set the model we hope to take this event on tour visiting two WPD depots in the South West.”

5.2MVA OF POWER FOR WAVIN PLASTICS Wavin Plastics in Chippenham is now home to over 5.2mVA of combined temporary power. The generators will run on demand, powering two production bays and a new chiller. Power Electrics were asked to supply reliable power for a new large production extension, while a mains supply was installed by SSE PLC. To increase resilience and smooth operation of the project, we undertook the challenge of providing a Fuel Management Solution. With an average daily consumption of 2000 litres, it provided a worthwhile challenge to undertake. Rental Project Manager Robin Mason described the scope of works: “The brief was that loss of power is not optional, Wavin required a bespoke solution to enable production to go on.
8
In order for production to continue, the generators had to be connected to the brand new distribution system within the new building. This created another challenge, as the cables needed to cross a main delivery route within the site. Setting ourselves above the rest, we brought in our specialist Fabrication Department to build a bespoke cable ramp capable of housing all cables and withstanding 40 tonne lorries on a daily basis. To add to the complexity of the project, tailored exhaust extensions had to be manufactured to eliminate fumes from entering nearby buildings. This was all handled in-house and the expectations of the customer were exceeded as we provided unique solutions to every obstacle.

ROBIN MASON “A little something we knocked up for a customer. Due to a delay in mains power and a brand new production facility sitting idle , we provided a turnkey 5mVA generator system and distribution with fuel management and load demand running. The factory is running and production is at full steam ahead.

PENTALVER TRANSPORT 3 YEAR HIRE OF TWO 250KVA GENERATORS South England Regional Sales Manager Gareth Roberts sent us the following overview of a hire project in Southampton: “The generators are to run reefer (cold store containers for shipping) at The Sea Mounting Centre, Marchwood for the MOD (client of Pentalver). The reefer units are destined for the Falkland Islands, via the Acension Island. A third set will be taken from November until February to cover the Christmas and New Year period. The units run on a shift pattern: 2 weeks running 24/7 then they will shut down for 4-6 weeks.”
Utility Week Live 2016 was a very successful show for Power Electrics. In addition to hosting the launch of our new exhibition display, May 17 & 18 saw our team acquire over 30 new sales and hire opportunities. Business Development Manager Darren Williams said “UWL was a great way to show off and promote Power Electrics to a wide range of utility contacts. A new bright show stand was prepared and ready for its first visitors at 9:00 am on the first day which brought in quality leads and good contacts, which included DNOs and water boards, along with a wide mix of customers across the utility sector. With the new stand, upbeat feel and a good stand location, quality leads flowed in over the two days.”

THANK YOU FROM BATH RUGBY Dear Richard and Team Now that the season has come to a close, I wanted to pass on my sincerest thanks for your contribution to the delivery of matchdays at The Rec. Whilst the results on the pitch may not have been what many of us would have wanted, matters off the pitch have been extremely smooth and you and your team have played an important role in that. The efficiency with which you work and your accommodation of the awkward timings and site rules is very much appreciated. Please accept my genuine thanks and I look forward to working with you for the 2016-17 season. I hope you enjoy your summer. Kind regards Alex Cohen Head of Operations

NATIONAL LIVING WAGE INTRODUCED The introduction of the national living wage on 1 April 2016 was a significant change for the lowest-paid workers. For the first time, employers will need to pay staff aged 25 and over the national living wage, which will work as a new top rate of the national minimum wage. For those aged under 25, lower national minimum wage rates will apply. The national living wage is initially set at ÂŁ7.20. The national living wage is separate to the living wage, a recommended rate based on the cost of living, used by the Living Wage Foundation.
WATCH OUT MO! Well done to Bridgend Depot Manager Steve Summers on his recent Cardiff half marathon achievement. Steve completed the 13 mile race in an impressive 1 hour and 46 minutes. The race starts outside of Cardiff Castle and culminates in the heart of the city at the Civic Centre.

LEE SHARP’S WOLF RUN! Thank you to everyone who sponsored Lee’s Spring Wolf Run in April! Congratulations to Regional Sales Manager Lee Sharp on completing his Wolf Run on 9th April 2016. The off-road run featured a series of nature’s finest obstacles, from lake swims to mud pits, fallen trees, boggy ground, ditches, hills and dense foliage, making the run more organic and creating a wild feel.
Lee completed the course to support the family of a friend who sadly passed away and Bedworth United under 9s Junior football team. Every step of the run tests you mentally and physically, taking you back to an instinctive way of running in raw, challenging terrain.
