POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:
WISDOM NDUCHIKA
I
am Wisdom Nduchika, a nation builder (founder of God’s Storehouse nation building initiative), and a business personnel in International air and sea freight from London UK to Nigeria. Prior to now, I’ve had the privilege to begin life from the rock bottom to my fair level with enormous potential to become much more than I am currently. I was born and raised in Umunede, Delta State, Nigeria. My father left us (my mum and I) the period that I was born, and I was raised by a single parent – my mother.
Even though my three uncles were very wealthy (Politician, Educationist –school owner and NURTW secretary), but they all had their own responsibilities and rarely did support us. I kept my mind busy and ensured that food was put on our table through those odd jobs. In 2009, favour found me through a friend who supported me to travel to the UK for
Life was a complete struggle as I began selfeducating from the age of 14 (from cutting grasses, mixing cements to make blocks, cutting bamboo trees, farming, bike riding also called okada, selling of palm oil, kainkain also called Sapele water, motor park passenger hawking / Agbero and finally driving buses for money to feed my 2 brothers and 1 sister).

studies. With my own saved up funds, I was able to pay my schools fees and other expenses. Upon my arrival in the UK, I began my studies and also worked part time at McDonalds Bromley Glades, and progressed from there. It was a tough experience especially during the cold winter season. My mind was made up to succeed through disciple, hard work and the help of God.
Fortunately, I was hungry to prove a point and by changing my work ethics, and attitude towards customers, I gradually increased my customer based service and this increased my success in general. That challenge became a catalyst to my success in the shipping business today.
I resigned from McDonalds in 2012, and began shipping items to my mum in Nigeria for sale. This way, she was able to look after herself and my siblings. Also, by helping other people to ship their things to Nigeria, I made a living in the process. I registered my company Gwhiz ltd, then began a Home and removals business within the UK in 2013 of which was inspired by a challenge that I received from a van driver whom I was assisting to make his work a lot easier. Fortunately, I was hungry to prove a point and by changing my work ethics, and attitude towards customers, I gradually increased my customer - based service and this increased my success in general. That

challenge became a catalyst to my success in the shipping business today. In the course of doing the logistics business, I came across a client who owned and ran a shipping enterprise, and I used his services to fully begin shipping business to my mum as she traded the items in Nigeria. This did not end without a challenge from the shipper. I have had to deal with all manner of people who told me ‘I was unable to succeed’. Today, the story is different. My journey has been from one end of challenge to success. I have lost huge amount of money in some of the shipping business due to disappointments from other shipping partners, However, I was determined not to allow my setbacks to prevent my progress. What has helped me to become strong and focused are the teachings from the word of God, books and cds from men and women in personal and professional development industries. I spend most of my spare time in the library. In my journey I have discovered that books are the greatest companion of people who desire to impact their generation positively.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
Through books I got to discover the true meaning of success and the importance of becoming better at one’s trade. I thank God for bringing these individuals who have helped reshaped and made me a better person and serving hundreds of clients. I’ve now just began my passion which is an NGO / charity social enterprise, because I believe that one of the greatest way of impacting society and the nation as a whole is through the service to humanity. As the saying goes: “charity begins at home” hence, I started my charity in my place of birth (Nigeria) to develop and maintain the social infrastructures in my country Nigeria. I believe that with the support from more people, together we can build a country we all dream of. God’s Storehouse Nation Building Initiative is a Christian charity enterprise that serves people in need, regardless of their religious or ethnic background - as we’re all one in God’s eyes because he made us all. PGMAG: Wow! Thank you so much for this heart-felt story. I
am completely blown away by your detailed account of your journey. Thank you. WN: Thank you for this opportunity to share my story with the world PGMAG: What is your message to the youth of the world? WN: Never give up on your dreams. Fight for what you believe to be true. PGMAG: What are the top 7 keys that got you to where you are today? Discipline, hard and smart work ethics, passion, empathy, faith, hunger for change and most importantly, the help of God PGMAG: When did you realize that you needed to change your situation for the better? WN: It was the challenge from the van driver that provoked the change. These were his exact words: “You are not good enough, and if you think it is easy, go and do yours let’s see.” PGMAG: Who are your Role Models? WN: Dr Myles Munroe, Les Brown, Alhaji Dipo Bakere of Dispon plastics, Mr Nnamdi of Slot System Nigeria, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and King Solomon in the Bible. PGMAG: Who would be your ideal travelling companion? WN: Self – development books are my ideal travelling

companion PGMAG: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? WN: I see a massive growth in our charity and Nation building initiates projects (God’s storehouse nation building initiative) PGMAG: Powerhouse Global Charity (Powerful Global Women Foundation) is grateful for your support. You have blessed us in so many ways by supporting us with our shipment of items for our work in Nigeria – we are grateful! Please tell us about your own charity work.

WN: Besides the charity that I manage, I also partner and collaborate with new and existing charity organization through, donations and sponsorship. My charity is focused on social infrastructures (building of schools, hospitals, elderly care homes, social housing for the less privileged, and the provision of food, water and clothing). PGMAG: Thank you so much for sharing your story with the world through our publication. We wish you every success in your endeavours.

PROCRASTINATION AND GET THINGS DONE ASH RAO
“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” ― Abraham Lincoln
T
his is one of my favorite quotes which sums up procrastination so aptly.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
Yes, we all understand the importance of not evading but yet we do it at times. We procrastinate justifying that we have enough time to do it and we will get to it later. And our world today is filled with digital distractions that make it way too easier to avoid doing

critical tasks – social media newsfeeds which pop up updates constantly, phone buzzing with notifications feeds our modern monkey mind that craves more. I am guilty of going into this dangerous zone often too. Putting things on hold by labeling them as too boring, mundane or overly complicated. But what I realized is that procrastinating things will not make your life easier – your tasks are still your tasks. If left undone, it can lead to lot of negative emotions like frustration, anger and guilt of not owning up to what you wanted to accomplish.
to productivity and can stifle your ability to get things done. In an attempt to beat procrastination, I have read and tried several strategies some of which has been very helpful. So, if you find yourself
falling into the trap of procrastination, then there is no other better time than now to try these strategies and revisit your unfinished work, your half-baked ideas with a new outlook. By implementing a few or all of these, you can stay the course and reach the

finish line! Know Your Why/ Stay Connected to Your Higher Purpose Be clear about your why. You need to be self-aware and think beyond just the task itself. How important are tasks like feeding your baby or taking care of loved one? Those are primary responsibilities and there is no procrastination when you understand your higher purpose. Similarly, you can evaluate any task through the lens of why and if you see value in doing that task– there should not be excuses and no procrastination. For example – If you do not like presentations at work, however you know that doing so will help you gain visibility with your management team leading to more growth opportunities – then it aligns with your why and you should do it.
TAKE BABY STEPS Sometimes it is overwhelming and scary to take on a difficult task. It is intimidating to begin with.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
So how to get started on enormously difficult and challenging task? Start small. Break it down and take baby steps each day. Want to write a book- start with 1 page Want to paint a house – start with one corner of a room Want to run a marathon – start with a short run around the block Start with doubt, start with fear but start.
MAKE IT INTERESTING If you consider a task boring, then add some fun to get through with the task. For instance, if you are filing an expense report or taking care of monthly finances – grab a glass of wine, switch on some upbeat music and get on with it. Who said boring tasks need to be boring?! If you are a competitive person, then challenge yourself to complete the task within a set time. Race yourself against the countdown timer to get it done. Do it imperfectly but complete the task. Other ways to make a task interesting is to reward yourself on completion. A Spa Day or Date night or that dress you wish to buy can wait
until you complete that boring but important task!
DELEGATE If the task is mundane and your time is best used doing something else – then see if you can outsource that job. While some of them enjoy tasks like lawn Mowing or house repairs, yet for the rest of us it may seem a waste of time. By hiring some help, you could get the job done without wasting your time.
RITUALIZE Motivation and Will-Power are over rated. Do not wait for inspiration to strike if you wish to begin any creative task. What matters more is the process. If a task is important to you and gets you closer to your goals, then stick to a routine and follow the process even if not in the mood. Go through the motions and backed by science, that inertia will keep you going. (Remember the Newton’s law of motion - A body in motion stays in motion unless acted by an external force!) Think of how easy it is just go for an additional distance on treadmill once you are already on it. It is easy to keep going once you already have started rather than when you have to
January 2019
11
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
start from a static state. Get an Accountability Partner Once you identify what task needs to be done, then if you need an external push to get it done, you need to find an accountability partner. Someone who can track your progress, who follows up with you and helps you stay accountable. Your accountability partner can be a gym buddy if your goals are fitness related; a coach if your goals are life/work related or can be a good friend or can even be your network like a Facebook group you are part of. A word of caution though making your spouse our accountability partner in most cases will not be as effective as you tend to take them for granted and hence will not get serious about your goals! Apps like StickK and Spar are also widely popular as social habit building aids where you pay a preset amount to group pot and take up the challenge – whether it is doing pushups or writing 500 words per day or learning an instrument, there is no procrastination as your money is at stake and your effort is visible to others! Keep your word. Develop a high sense of
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
personal integrity. Honor your commitments. You cannot procrastinate if you have committed to someone and you will no longer ignore that task as it will reflect on your personality. Whether it is showing up on time, completing the project, keeping a promise to a boss or client, pitching in with your share of housework and helping out your partner - honor your word and be reliable.
JUST DO IT Lastly even if none of these strategies have worked for you, this Nike’s slogan is sure to kick procrastination out of the door! Just Do It! This mantra will surely spring you to take immediate action on your goals and tasks. Do not wait. Do not over think. Do not worry too much about success or failure. Just get started. Just do it! With the New Year just right around the corner, 2019 can be the year free of procrastination! Let the New Year ring in with new dose of energy and momentum to help you accomplish what you always intended to!

LEGACY:
WHAT WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED FOR? Death. It’s a subject that oftentimes we do not wish to think about, let alone talk or read about. It is however, the greatest guarantee a human being has, but bear with me as I share some thoughts, not with the intention to depress you, but rather ignite the passion of possibilities.
FRANCESCA MCDOWALL After all death is not the final destination, your presence can live on in the pages of novels, on the small screens, over the airways and in the hearts of all those whose lives you have impacted. So let’s explore this subject a little further. We live in an age of ready and accessible information; we tweet, post, share, like, comment, watch and so the list goes on. Many times its information overload and with social media playing an ever increasing role in our daily lives, what we engage in are snippets from the famous but also the not so famous. It is surprising to me that the most seemingly random videos go viral, and just like that millions of people have had an insight into another person(s) lives and been impacted. It could be the young boy who comforts and helps his sibling score a basketball after having

failed, now hailed as the ‘best big brother ever’. Or maybe it’s the baby gender reveal gone wrong that has the masses glued to their screen. In whichever way these people have impacted our lives, as we have been able to smile, laugh, connect and even cry with them. To be touched and impacted by others is part of the fabric of modern day society, but how lasting and transforming is this impact. Generally speaking legacy is thought of as the property, assets or financial wealth that is left to someone in a will. In this context however, when we speak of leaving a
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
legacy it is concerned with about how future generations will remember you, how the contribution and impact on society you make will be experienced long after you have left. Legacy is when people who are not even born yet, are inspired, influenced and positively changed by something you did or said in whatever capacity. I recall attending my Maternal Grandmothers funeral and hearing stories about the good deeds she had done long before I was born. It was remarkable that she had impacted the lives of scores of people, who were
encouraged, prayed for and many times taken care of by her. My Grandmother, forgive me for the personal bias, left a legacy. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of not only our family and future generations, but also the wider community she lived amongst. The opportunity to leave a legacy, is a privilege granted to each one of us, and I propose that rather than leaving it to chance or a viral video we make an intentional decision to leave a lasting legacy. The Bible says we are granted 3 score and 10 years, or 70 plus years in layman’s terms and

maybe you too have found that time does seem to go faster as the years go by. Dear one, do remember that the unique combination of gifts, experiences, skills and talent that you possess are exclusive. There are distinct purpose driven achievements that are yours alone to fulfil, and once accomplished it would be fitting to have them last. Last long enough for you to see and enjoy the fruits, but also long enough to reach men and women, boys and girls that at present only exist in the mind of God. So will you choose to leave a legacy, will you choose to share your gifts, intelligence, knowledge, revelation and inspiration with future generations? I hope you will agree to intentionally embark on this legacy leaving journey. There are several ways in which you can leave a lasting legacy including writing a book, maintaining

a journal with personal stories and experiences. Perhaps you are destined to establish a business, start a charity or foundation, record inspirational videos or become an award winning entrepreneur. Perhaps you will be a research scientist, inventor or designer, in whatever way believe and know that your life makes a difference, may it be a lasting one. With the New Year at hand, may I encourage you to decide what you will do in the next 12 months to start or continue building your legacy, after all there will never be another you. Dear one, remember that with your gifts and your talents you are uniquely positioned to impact not only this, but many future generations to come. Every Blessing. Fran

POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:
ROSEMARY CHUKWU
P
GMAG interview with one of the most celebrated Gospel Artist in Nigeria, West Africa. Evangelist Rosemary Chukwu ONUMAEGBU (ERCO) is a household name in Nigeria. We are privileged to have her presence in this edition. PGMG: Ma we are so happy for this opportunity. We have heard so many positive stories about your work. Thank you for granting us this interview. ERCO: Thank God for the grace. PGMG: Ma, we were told from a reliable source that you are one of the pioneers of the Gospel music in Nigeria. Tell us about your journey and how it all started. ERCO: I released my first album 21 years ago, and since then by the grace of Almighty God we have been going from strength to strength. PGMG: wow! 21 years seem like a very long time. What got you into the music industry? ERCO: I never knew I had the voice , but the songs kept coming to me until I spoke to a relative who advised me to start writing them

down in a book. Before I released my first album, I had already received over 50 songs. Through the guidance of some God-sent individuals, I was encouraged to make the bold move. My ministration is a gift and a calling from God. PGMG: Some people don’t believe in God, and would probably not understand the meaning of ‘calling’. Please touch some light on this aspect of life. ERCO: The Bible says; it is only a FOOL that

would say; there is no GOD. There is a God who is and will always be the creator and not the created. I am privileged to be in daughter and he has been so good to me. I am nothing without him. All the successes recorded on my journey were made possible because of him. Each person on earth has been given a purpose to fulfil. Unfortunately not everyone is in tune with their calling (purpose). PGMG: Thank you so very much for sharing your thought about God. We at PGMAG loves God. We respect every faith, but we are rooted in the word of God. So, we can relate to what you have just shared with us regarding calling/ purpose/gifts. What do you think prevents people from pursuing their purpose? ERCO: From my experience, the one thing that has kept so many people from reaching greatness in life is ‘LACK OF CLARITY OF PURPOSE’. No person on this planet is without a purpose. Everyone has a place to serve and be rewarded. My music is my place of service and God has being blessing me through this work. PGMG: Lack of clarity is a take-home assignment for our readers. We are in total agreement with your point.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
Ma, what keeps you motivated as an artist? ERCO: My Global fans. There have been so many challenges in the last 21 years which would have made me to give up on my calling, but the grace of God and the testimonies from my fans makes all the difference. PGMG: Talking about your fans, please share with us your experience in China and other overseas ministrations. ERCO: I have been privileged to travel to few countries on my music platform. God has being using my voice to heal the sick and give hope to the hopeless. PGMG: What is your message to the women of the world? ERCO: My message is; Know who you are, believe in your dreams/gift and don’t settle for less than you are worth. Women of the world are the custodians of the power. They are life givers and home makers. The world needs women to rise up and be heard. Every woman has something to offer for the betterment of the society. To all the women who are making a difference in various fields of purpose, keep pushing forward. Remember to ask for God’s help of a daily basis. PGMG: Thank you Ma for blessing us with your
presence. ERCO: Thank you too for having me. I bless your work and pray for God Almighty to bring helpers who would take this magazine to the far countries of the world. PGMG: Amen! We are grateful for your time and the knowledge shared.

full of magic and richness’s. Never feeling awkward but fully embracing who we were.
AWAKENING OF
OUR SPIRIT EMMA DI GALLO
We, as children, have been influenced by our parents and outer condition that shaped us to become who we are. As we are moving through our teen years to adulthood, we can find ourselves wondering into “Les chemins de traverses” not sure of what we should be doing in our lives. Not sure of what our life’s purpose is, only being influence by our parents’ expectations.
W
e can find ourselves feeling a lack of inspiration, remembering our vivid imagination as small children running the plains carefree of what the world had to offer. We could spend time dreaming of an imaginary life,
As life progresses we start to conform to the “norm” feeling we should adapt to it. But once in a while by letting our spirit out of the “box” for a moment of fun and remembrance, and by closing our heart and spirit from the world that is full of egos and all sorts. A place where imagination and uniqueness is more frowned upon than embraced. A world where they teach us to become a part of the robot’s world, and people are not encouraged to stand for what they believe in, instead people are encouraged to wear mask on a daily basis and hid their true self. It is important to remember that by forgetting our life

purpose, we continue topursue the life we thought would be ours. Dreaming to climb the corporate world, becoming an influencer and all the things ego tells us to be. Thinking we could live a happily married life in a quiet neighborhood. The Universe as the puppets master is steering us into different direction for us to experience our life lessons. As we are unaware of what is coming towards us. Although, our little voice inside of us which is our spirit tries to guide us. But our ego acting like a loud speaker also tries to block us from hearing our spirit. While we are continuing to navigate into the river of

our existence which is called ‘life’; not fully understanding the changes that are coming towards us, and trying to battle the raging river instead of learning how to navigate with the support of the Universe. As we move along our life’s journey; we can feel an emptiness in our heart. It feels
as if something is missing and our thirst for change starts to emerge slowly. At this point we feel disconnected with the world. A sense of wanting peace and wholeness, a rebirth is constantly nagging at us. We are starting to seek it out, first in our religion, but we feel that is not enough. We feel there is something

bigger, something that is worth seeking regardless of any consequence that may befall us. We are feeling incomplete in this world. As we are looking at the night sky we are starting to see the magic of the Universe unfolding in front of us. While the moon is not shining yet, we can see darkness coming upon us. But as we feel nervous and alone under the sky, the first star appears, followed by others that are beginning to sparkle like millions of diamonds showing their beautiful facets. The sky is showing us its hidden gems. Showing us the constellations which have endured since time immemorial, and which will never cease to exist as the earth remains. Starting to realize that we are not alone in this world, but instead seeing the connections and knowing that we one makes it a platform for creativity. As we are quietly sitting watching this beautiful show revealing itself, the moon, like a majestic queen, is slowly moving higher into the night sky showing her true beauty. As we are observing this magical moment, we have finally quieted our ego to let our spirit rise like the phoenix. Our imagination starts to rise
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
You are not feeling alone but you have come to the realization you are one with the Universe. and we feel ourselves being centered and whole in the process. We can finally hear our spirit talking to us, starting to see the world in a different light. Realizing we have not yet fulfilled our life’s purpose. The journey that took us from where we were, and got us to this place has been paved with life lessons. It has given us the most beautiful moment in our lives, and has connected us with the Universe. From being transcended with unconditional love, to the most painful and heartbreaking experiences making us doubt about the Universe even pushing us further apart from it. But under this night sky we can finally realize that journey was pre-planned by our spirit with the support of the Universe. To let us grow,
to make us understand we are not alone but instead we are always supported by the Universe. It is finally time to open our heart chakra, so our spirit can, like the butterfly, break away and expand its wings. It is a painful and beautiful moment when you finally realize everything you need is not outside of you but instead it has been in your core all along. You have been living a life of illusion that did not ground you nor made you whole. By finally opening the door you have let your spirit shine, you have increased the light. You are finally connecting yourself with the Universe. You are not feeling alone but you have come to the realization you are one with the Universe, you are in perfect communion. Unconditional love is feeling your heart, body and spirit. You are feeling whole and at peace. You are finally grasping the idea of why you are here. Your consciousness, your awareness has awakened; you can feel the changes throughout your body. Your life is changing; you are shifting your mind to a

more peaceful state. You are listening to your spirit, understanding you can partner with the Universe to co-create a new life for yourself. What you always thought you wanted has been obsolete for quite some time. You are feeling reborn; you do not need to be competing in the ego world. Instead you are looking to your spirit as a guide; you are living a more balanced life. You are happier and joyful others are seeing that you have let your beautiful, colorful spirit be. You are not afraid to show the world who you are. Instead you have become an inspiration for your children and family. You are engaging to bring more positivity into this world, your light is bright and shinning, and you are redefining your outer conditions. You are engaging the world in a brandnew way. Some can call the awakening of our spirit a ‘midlife crisis’; but in fact it is not. Rather, it is the moment when you are finally welcoming your spirit into your life. It is that moment in your life when you allow your spirit to be in the driver’s seat. By accepting who you are, while letting the
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
Universe co-create with you, by not letting the world you are living in influence you, but instead start to become a part of the consciousness that is changing the world for the better one person at a time. You do not need to justify who you are but instead embrace fully the changes that are coming upon you. Realizing we are all in this world together, while we can set a new journey for our lives. Train yourself to experience love, joy and happiness at every opportunity - not feeling that you have to fight every battle. Learn to fight using “unconditional love”. This kind of love is the most powerful energy we can ever have as a weapon of change. We can shift this world by staying in the state of unconditional love. We can create happy endings for us and our loved ones. As well as sending to strangers this unconditional love so they can experience it. People living with their ego could be afraid of us because it is uncharted territory for them. We do not fit in their little boxes anymore. We should never try to conform to their ideas. face?
Unexpected. A moment of impact. Caught completely off guard? So it was for me recently. I was delivering the final session of a four-day management development program: PEOPLE. EMPOWERING. PEOPLE. It’s been pretty amazing. But, that’s a story for another day.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
As the title suggests, this program is about people. It’s about us, as leaders and/or managers. It’s also about those we contribute to, influence, lead and serve. People. Clients. Employees. Colleagues. Our teams. Families. It’s about empowerment. Empowering ourselves, others and situations. Exploring what that means. What it takes. Bringing our best. Equipping ourselves attitudinally and practically with great tools. Applying the perspectives, frameworks and insights that support our best. It’s about embodying the spirit and the letter of the word ‘empower’, which, literally, means to

article, from a highly credible business source.
So, there I stood in our wrap-up session. I was asking the team about their learning journeys and looking to hear their application examples.
It decried the use of certain leadership ‘words’ – and the actions behind them.
Then the “bucket-of-ice-water-moment” happened. One of the participants shared something he’d read on the weekend. It was an

essence and practice of empowering, especially for leaders. In fact, it slammed empowerment as business jargon. Condemned it as “the most condescending transitive verb ever.” I was shocked. I was also intrigued. How is it that we’ve somehow misused and misapplied our ability to ‘empower’? And, how is it that we’ve done that so drastically as to warrant such a total condemnation? We had a great discussion. I’ve since reflected further. I’m more convinced than ever of the need for and value of developing an empowering mindset, style, and skill. Doing so is elevating both to the ‘giver’ and to the ‘receiver’, and it causes us to think ‘anew’. In other words, we remind ourselves to not get stuck in old patterns of action or perception. To not become complacent with what is. And, to see ways to raise our sights, broaden our minds, and be more receptive to possibilities. To energize potential and become more creative, too. Leaders, if you really want to have an impact and
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
influence, you’re going to need to develop the ability to empower. Yourself. Others. Situations. Managers, do you want to create a healthy environment? Also, to create culture in which those in your charge bring their best effort and engagement? Doing so means you’re also going to need to develop this essential skill. The rest of us, what does it take to be a friend, valued colleague or a capable parent? A great learner! An awesome participant in whatever it is that life is throwing at you? Yes, you guessed it! We need to develop this important capacity. Change. Thriving. Surviving at times. Creating value. They all take strength. Power. The ability to muster what it takes. Empowerment.
What Empowerment is Not. The first problem arises when we think that somehow empowerment is done “to” someone else. I worked with a person years ago who believed that leadership happens from the front. It was a position you held, and it enabled you to wield power. It was the stature of privilege. It entitled you to a certain respect, or at least deference. It was also a position of responsibility. If you were the leader, it was up to you to charge ahead. The problem with that view is that it’s not hard to get it mixed up with pride. It’s an attitude that is readily distorted into thinking you know more than everyone. It becomes easy to believe

that you’re better than them. Smarter. Wiser. Faster. ‘Above’ in some way. Friends of hers called it: “Lead dog.” The problem with trying to follow someone who thinks they’re ‘lead dog’ is that most of us don’t appreciate the view. Their ‘rear’ in our face is not a great thing to imagine. If that’s all we can see of them, it’s not surprising that’s all we come to know! That’s the trap when empower is viewed too literally -- with too much ego and not enough value creation. It’s what can happen when we think of leadership too much from the perspective of oldstyle, command-and-control, “lead dog.” As defined earlier: “it’s the most condescending transitive
verb ever.”
Observable. Feasible.
Our increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and/or ambiguous environments demand fluidity. They make such action and attitude unacceptable. Dangerous even. Acting from that place is definitely unproductive; and, downright disempowering.
• Second, it must have a ‘direct object’: something or someone who receives the action of the verb.
Such an effect is total opposite of the intention. It’s the antithesis of what people look for in real leadership or worthy management. It’s not what people demand. Nor is it what they deserve. Not ‘transitive’. Instead: transformational. “Empower”, like any transitive verb has two characteristics: • First, it implies action and expresses a doable activity. That means that empower has to be visible and expressive.
This is where intention comes into play. The energy that fuels the empowering action must be ‘clean’ and creative. Valuebased. Oriented towards contribution and service. Empowering. Not as something done ‘to’ us. Not as lead dog, enforcing followership. Instead, as something done ‘for’ and with us -- as a way of powering up what’s best. Adding strength. An act of giving that is not for our own agenda (unless we are empowering ourselves), but in service of others. Contributing to them and/or to the situation.
It implies action and expresses a doable activity. That means that empower has to be visible and expressive. Observable. Feasible.

Empower is not transitive at all. It’s transformational. It’s an active giving that supports and promotes deep and profound change. It’s meaningful; and, creates value for the receiver. If it feels even slightly like an act of condescension, it’s just not empowering. Face it. We all know when someone is empowering. Pause for a moment and think of the times in your life when you were genuinely empowered. Go back to those moments. You can feel that surge of constructive energy, can’t you? Think of the people who helped foster, stimulate or cultivate that in you. Appreciate the gratitude that wells up when you think of them. That’s empowerment. It is a quality well worth cultivating – don’t you think? A practice of contribution. So, what does it take? To become – and to be experienced as authentically empowering – is going to demand of us a mix of desire, intention and action.

a difference. Power that you can give to those who need it -- to either ignite, replenish, or fuel theirs.
1. CARE
5. COMMITMENT
Care enough to engage. Become curious, intentional and discerning. Discover what matters to others. What creates meaning and purpose? What is fulfilling? And, what’s in the way? Care.
If it were easy, anybody would do it. This is where real leadership comes in. Are you willing to go the distance – for and with others? Empowerment without commitment has no ‘staying power.’
2. CHOICE Choose your action. Don’t react. Act. Look for ways to contribute. Actively choose to create value.
3. COURAGE Rooted in the French word, ‘coeur’ – meaning ‘heart’ – put heart into your action. Be pure in your intention and brave. Show up as your best. Give that. It may or may not be received as intended. It may or may not serve or help. It may or may not make a difference. Real empowerment is willing to act, anyway. That’s courage.
4. CONVICTION Live and lead ‘on purpose.’ Move forward and contribute to others because you can. Do so because you believe that what you do matters. Believe that you have the power to make change. Make
6. CAPACITY Finally, you cannot pour from an empty vessel. Empowerment is not just about others, situations, and the world. It starts with you. You can’t “give power” if you’re running on empty. You’ve got to cultivate and grow – empower – your own capacity. Stay open to learning. Take care of your health and wellbeing. Build your reserves. Rest. Reflect. Renew. After the initial shock of that “bucket-of-ice-watermoment,” I felt a twinge of exasperation. A slight wave of disappointment and a swelling shrug of defeat. Not aimed at the person who had raised the question. It was more so for us all. I thought to myself, “how is that we continue to lead

how imperfect we can all be at times in our efforts. Yet, committed more than ever. People. Empowering. People.
“What’s your take on that, Janice?” he asked.
It’s a challenge to live up to everyday. What are you doing to build, share and cultivate your “power to empower?”
My response? I hope I practiced the six ways of showing up illustrated earlier – that my reply itself was an example of empowerment. I reminded us all that empowering – like any practice of leadership or management – is not something we do ‘to’ others. It is, instead, something we become, through our actions. Done poorly, we all feel it. It’s a jolt that leaves us feeling more empty than full. Like the root of the word condescension = descent: it drags us down. Simply put – if that’s our impact then whatever it is that we just tried to do, it was clearly not empowering. On the other hand, done well, we all ‘get it’. It’s a power surge that is edifying. It creates an unmistakable boost to one’s sense of self, wellbeing, confidence and strength. I looked over at him. I took in the full group. I could see it. I could feel it, too. Heads nodding. UNLEASH YOUR GENIUS ANTHONY C. GRUPPO AND LAREINA MENGYI GUO
I
’m honored to co-author this piece with Lareina Mengyi Guo. I met Lareina while speaking to Master level students at New York University. After my speech she courageously introduced herself and asked me a challenging question about leadership. She followed up by connecting with me on social media.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
When we talked, she shared her personal aspirations and goals. I suggested she take a personality profile. The results of her profile were very similar to my own. A twenty something year old woman from China and a sixty something year old man from America discovered the globe is merely a ball of unleashed genius. We both knew eventually we would have to

find a way to work together in some capacity. This book, the inspiration of Lady Anita Bradshaw, is the perfect meeting place for our chapter and her vision for “You Are More Than Enough”. We all possess the genius needed to be a Difference Maker. As a young leader you do not need to wait for permission to reach your maximum potential. In the workplace, younger professionals often feel confined by limited experience and being “new “to the job. Your genius is not time sensitive. What makes you a professional of potential is not based on age but driven by courage and character. You were a thought leader long before you became an employee. This chapter will hopefully present you with

ideas and concepts to unleash your genius. Let’s explore the nine tenets for unleashing your genius. 1. Build a Personal Strategic Plan - Establish your goals with measurable results. Draft the objectives associated with the goals. Frame the actions which will accomplish the objectives. Share your personal strategic plan with your personal board of directors. You want your personal board of directors to challenge you and help you create an innovative personal strategic plan. Think of yourself as a creative visionary. Create an environment that becomes exciting and inviting for yourself and others. When interviewing a personal board of directors recruit and select people who enable you to be creative. Goals
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
are the internal energy that will propel you to success. Goals create the future of an organization and the wellbeing of a family. You must achieve to your potential; you cannot count on someone else to deliver your future and dream your dreams for you. When you form your goal structure, you have to keep in mind that, although you have to be successful at what you create, you also want to challenge yourself to be than you are currently. So it is important that you set short and long-term goals that are a challenge to you. One of the most useful ways to set goals is to understand the entire personal strategic planning process. People immediately think in terms of one to five years, but what really forces creativity into a structured
world is to plan several years into the future. You will feel comfortable and safe when you have a vision for the future. Although the vision will certainly change and develop as the year’s progress, it gives direction and it makes the process easier by building your goals around a vision and a plan. 2. List your Qualities and Talents - Ask yourself why will other’s benefit by being associated with you? Too often we concentrate on personal reward versus rewarding others. Learning to be selfless will result in you achieving more. Align your talents and qualities with the mission of your employer and those who you were hired to support. Demand a sense of urgency from yourself. Weigh the risks and rewards of the challenges you are attempting to conquer. Isolate the key decisions needing immediate resolution. Determine the consequences of postponing your decisions. Create detailed options where you will choose to invest your time and energy. Many seasoned professionals in the workforce never unleashed their genius. They held back and therefore never achieved to their full potential.. They became

followers fearing the risk of bringing their talents to the front. Inform others of your decisions and tell them what you are going to do. Execute on your plan and make adjustments as needed. 3. Integrate Personal and Professional Brands Unleashing your genius is the first step to being a Servant Leader. It is not ego driven to build a personal brand when it helps others achieve their goals. What is your brand of mission? Who are you when engaging others? Do you allow others to know who you are? If your employer is attempting to brand itself in the community then volunteer to support your community in a way that grows your brand and the employers. In this way, everyone grows and the community is served. This is the root system of Servant

Leadership. Give of yourself and your path to achievement and success will widen and be easier to navigate. 4. Avoid the “Whine” Cellar - Unfortunately, many in the workforce who never unleashed their genius will attempt to put a leash on you. Their leash of negativity will attempt to drag you down into their “Whine” Cellar. Assess the people around you in all areas of your life. Separate yourself from the Whiners, and build your personal board of positive people who are also unleashing their genius. Collectively and together you will build a network of doers and servants to the personal and organizational mission. Successful people know they create their own reality. Build the structure for your personal motivation and create the fuel for your
self-starting machinery. The structure will come in the form of your personal strategic plan, your personal mission and vision. Create your plan to help others while always maintaining a positive attitude. If doubt starts to enter you mind call on mentors to help you focus and continue the pursuit of your goals. Present the challenge in clear terms to focus on strategies for success. Grant room for mistakes and learn from them. Support solid decision-making with consistent execution. Always choose persistence and you will rarely fail. 5. Take a Personality Profile - Research and engage a personality profile test which identifies your strengths and areas of development. After taking the profile, discuss it with your personal board and employer and show

them your personal strategic plan. Communicate how you will blend your brand with theirs, focus on personal improvement and have all parties’ desired outcomes as your mission. If you do this, and believe us, many with never try, you are already well ahead on unleashing your genius. 6. Learn from Legacy Associate with the senior colleagues who have attained personal and professional success. Ask them how they built their career? Seek to uncover their talents and skills. Both of us come from extremely different cultures, generations and experiences. As we shared our plans with each other we uncovered our integrated skillset, belief and mission. Together, we formed an alliance to help each other diversify our thought leadership. The master level leader wants to help you. Find an event, work group or even a timed task where you can come together and benefit from each other’s genius. 7. Be Humble and Confident - A balance of humility and confidence are the key ingredients for unleashing your genius. Talk to people not at people. Don’t be the
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
loud aggressive spokesperson of which you are allowing your actions to speak to your talent. The master level colleague will become your press agent when you perform well. Ask to do what others refuse doing. Make sacrifices to make headway. Try not to ask what’s in it for you; ask first what’s in it for your colleagues and clients. Challenge the uncertainty of risk in a positive manner. Never speak about someone not present to present their side. Stay away from clicks and club like behavior. Learn to work in isolation when needed. Make time to think creativity. Do work for someone without being asked. If you finish your work early ask for more. If an employee leaves, ask yourself if you can take on some of their work. 8. Build a Productive
Network - It has been said that the only difference between Networking and Not-working is one letter. Always network where you can challenge yourself and improve your outcomes. Find the associations and events where Movers are moving and not where the social aspect creates staleness. Don’t waste moves by networking where it’s comfortable. The uncomfortable creates opportunity. Where are you spending time this month which is new for you and can showcase your talent? After meeting new people, stay in contact. 9. Be Courageous- Define courageous for yourself. When you unleash your genius it becomes impossible to enter a comfort zone. Courage breaks away from comfort. Courage when defined for a

leader is the foundation of risk coupled with a servant formed mission. You will discover your legacy was not about material gain but how others gained because of your courage to challenge yourself. You can only unleash your genius through risk and trying to break barriers which stop most people. You have an opportunity for the future most people can never realize in their lifetimes. You can reach heights, before, seemed too high for you. You can set examples for others and all those who follow in your footsteps. Walk out the door today and enter a world where your genius is unleashed. Be productive, energetic and animated in everything you do. Your age is merely a bookmark while your story is written. The world is counting on you to make a difference in the lives of those you serve and care about.

THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE!
DOROTHY-INEZ DEL TUFO
Do you have a dream still left inside of you? Do you wonder what your life would’ve been like if you had tried to live it out? Well, that was how I felt ten short years ago. It’s hard to believe it’s been 17 years since I decided to leave my high-paying corporate job at telecom giant T-mobile to pursue my dream of being a makeup artist. As a teenager, I always wanted to be in the music industry as a singer or dancer. I was never encouraged to pursue those dreams because my father was concerned that there was too much competition and that I would not make any money in that field. My biggest dream was to be

I didn’t believe that dream was possible, so being a makeup artist became my back up plan. My thought was that if I became Prince’s makeup artist, I would create an opportunity to sing for him and he would ask me to join his group. Sounds like a pretty good plan, right? Wrong! Like many, I got caught up in my parent’s vision for me. I slowly let my artistic abilities die and began to focus on a “real” career as a secretary. Do you remember that term? Now, they are called administrative assistants. I did that work for years in Germany, which is where I was born and raised. “Who knew that as a secretary my dream would partially come true. I was blessed to go on two tours with Prince thanks to my friend, Boni Boyer, who was his keyboardist at the time. I

did not get to be his makeup artist, nor did I get discovered, but I had the privilege of being backstage and at all the after-parties for two of his European tours. Do you want to know how that came to be? Getting the opportunity to experience being backstage and that close to Prince happened because I was persistent and focused on what I wanted. I met Boni on one of his earlier tours while sitting in the lobby of his hotel hoping to meet someone who could get me up close and personal. Boni and I hit it off and soon became like sisters. Whenever they came to Germany on tour I was one of the first people she called. I make my dreams come true by being focused on the outcome and doing what it takes to make it happen like meeting and

being close to Prince. I’ve met so many celebrities this way. I often wonder what could have happened if I had let Boni know exactly what I wanted; to sing and dance for Prince and that I had a whole book of songs I had written I wanted him to see.. But at the end of the day I desired an authentic relationship with her and didn’t want her to feel used, so I kept my focus on our friendship instead of using her to meet Prince. Now that they are both gone I often wish I had been more forthright. The lesson we can learn is that we can’t assume we have time to play with our dreams, because we never know what’s going to happen, so we must seize the opportunity when it arises. I thought I would have time later to tell her my dream of singing and dancing with Prince as our friendship developed but as fate would have it, Boni died three years after we met, and as we all know, Prince too is now gone.
When I worked as a manager for T-mobile, I would play a VHS tape from motivational speaker Les Brown called, “This is Your Decade,” for all my new employees. My goal was to inspire them to be the best they could be whether it was at this company or another. I have always loved developing outstanding leaders. The funny thing was that I never considered that message for myself until one day in 2004, I accidentally found out that a young, white male, with six years less experience, was making $7000 more per year than I was for the same job. I took my issue to human resources and of course I had no success with them. I contemplated on what to do, and Les’ message came to mind again. I decided, “This will be my decade!” I began to plan the exit from my job.
I got accepted at the top makeup school in Los Angeles, so I took a leave of absence to move closer to my dream. Two years later, at the age of 40, I graduated from college with a Bachelors in Communications, all paid for by the company I was leaving! I had worked on that degree since I was 30, and committed to myself that I would finish by the time I was 40. It wasn’t easy but it was one of my proudest moments. I graduated at the top of my class and received a special award for Educational Perseverance, because while in school, my husband had been stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and only a month after living there, we lost everything. It was the most devastating time of my life and yet I maintained a high level of performance through it all.
Why are you waiting? What is keeping you from stepping into your dream? Why are you afraid to ask for what you want? Is someone telling you that you’re too old? I’m here to tell you it’s never too late!

One week after I graduated, I kept my promise to myself and I submitted my twoweek notice; this is when my journey as an entrepreneur began. Being an entrepreneur has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I have grown as a leader and most of all as a woman. Who knew that one could experience new-found success at the age of 40? I started my business, being known as the Minister of Beauty, because the first part of my own journey was one of learning self love, and used my gift as a Makeup Artist to empower other women to own their beauty inside and out. It is out of our own pain that God gives us purpose. God literally turns our mess into our message. Trust me when I tell you

nothing is happening to you, everything is happening for you. It is all preparation for your destination. When you can begin to see and believe that truth, your whole world will transform. You will begin to see things through a different lens, which removes a lot of stress that comes from negative thinking. Everything that has ever happened in your past, present, and future makes you the person God needs you to be to carry out the mission you were sent here to accomplish. In 2014, my husband was unexpectedly laid off from the military. My business was on the rise. I was becoming well-known in the coaching world; I had just become an International Best-Selling author and speaker in Seattle. Then, once again my world began tumbling down. I went from living in a 3000
square-foot home to an 800 square-foot apartment, literally overnight. The army released us from the military, so my landlord quickly allowed us to move into the smaller home they were staying in so we could afford the rent. My husband went through a deep depression which put a tremendous strain on our marriage. I had to figure out a way to bring in more money because he wasn’t working. His layoff is what led me to pursuing the next goal that I had put off; a Masters degree. As a military spouse, the G.I. Bill pays me to go to school; it was the perfect solution. I used that money to sustain me and my business as I continued to grow and develop. I have to admit, it still wasn’t easy because of the emotional stress I dealt with at home. Then another disruption came in the middle of working on my degree. We had to decide where we wanted to make our final move with the army. We could choose to move anywhere in the world as our final destination. My husband didn’t want to stay in Seattle which is where we were now stationed, so I meditated for a while, because he left the decision of where to live to

me. I remembered my childhood dream of living in Hollywood and being star. I always told my husband that when I died I wanted my ashes to be sprinkled in the Pacific ocean. Forget going there when I died, NOW was my chance to live there and see if I could make it as a makeup artist. But God had other plans for me. Once again, I found myself reflecting on Les Brown’s message saying, “The richest place on the planet is the graveyard because so many people died with their dreams and inventions still left inside of them.” The truth is most of us have fewer years in front of us than we do behind. At this point in my life I’m so committed to living with no regrets that I decided to relocate to California. When it came time to locate a new school to finish my degree, God told me to look up “Bible colleges in Los Angeles.” If I can be honest, I did not want to attend a Bible college, as I have an aversion to religiosity, but in the spirit of obedience, I Googled them and found the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, also known as BIOLA. I have to say I was floored because God gave

me the name of that school when he spoke it to my spirit in His still small voice. It just happens to be one of the top seminaries in the country. The school required a lot to be accepted, and by the grace of God I got in with no ministry background at all. Unfortunately that school did not work out, but I believe God sent me there for a season to learn what I need to know about what Christian women were directly dealing with around empowerment. I ended up finding the right school, and I reached my final destination of becoming an Organizational Psychologist. Now I am in a new phase of my journey! At the age of 52, I have walked on fire with Tony Robbins, become a four-time International BestSelling Author, Speaker, and Organizational Psychologist. I also just re-launched my Confidence and Success Mindset coaching business since relocating to Minnesota helping high-achieving women have the courage to grow and step into their dreams. It’s been a beautiful journey. If I can do this, so can you! This is not the time to play small; this is the time to play
big! This is the time to take risks and make things happen! This the time to no longer care what others say about you! This is the time to be the person God has called you to be! This is your time shine and let the world know you are here!

THE JOURNEY OF OUR SOULS TO EARTH IN 2019 The positivity of thoughts must always accompany us, because we must change the planetary karma to a beneficial one, both for us and for the next generations. I have learned that whenever I choose my open mind, I make the right choice.
SZTANKOVITS ALINA Interesting is how fast time passes and look, and it’s been over a year. Climate change, political change, changing our inner self is now much faster. Did you notice that it would not be time to do much more one day than previous years? It seems like time has gone into a crazy carousel , in a temporal loop, where everything is fast and we do not begin to realize every step of our life, because practically we do not have it when. Thus, the journey of our souls to Earth is done in quantum jumps and the lessons learned here are deeper and deeper. There is an eternal question: Who am I and what is my role here on earth? We all came to learn together, to evolve together, each in his own piece, in his field, but we all together form a whole.

I am just a drop of a great ocean of blessed souls on this Earth, but together with everyone around me, we have chosen to form the wave, to swim together in the midst of the currents. For 2019, try to express your confidence in this Ascension process, so the easier it will be to navigate through it, and the sooner you will overcome the inferior things! Through absolute love and inner discipline we build our way to our Golden Age and to a new world full of Joy, Peace, Love and Freedom. This quantum leap will lead us to a new, amazing life, in which every moment is sprinkled with miracles and magic! You feel with each step you have inner healing. Every event that takes place in your life is an invitation to evolution and the unlocking of the superior gifts hidden within you. Responding to the question of who I am and how I can bring a drop of change to this planet, I found the divine message in my inner feeling: Search for the inner gift and give to all knowledge and love, wisdom and devotion. We need a healthy and quiet life, but for that to happen,

we need a Green Planet. So the change comes from each of us and we can do a wonderful thing together: I challenge you to plant a tree in 2019 and give it a name, care and meditate on the idea that it’s the change we need, a planetary rebirth. Imagine how if 8 billion people would all plant a tree, what would climate change be through a minimal but blessed effort? It’s just a beginning but it can be the change of paradigm we need. God protects us, he has given us a wonderful Planet. We must understand that the change comes from each of us. And divine blessings will flow if we allow them to be part of our spiritual evolution. TAKING A DECISION TO LIVE A
HAPPY MARRIED LIFE Living a happy married life is a personal decision hence there’s no perfect marriage.
EVELYN EMEKA However, you can decide to perfect your marriage having and living the right attitude towards your spouse.
TIPS: TOLERANCE
You can decide to perfect your marriage having and living the right attitude towards your spouse.
www.powerhouseglobalmag.com
As you can agree with me during the time of friendship, you were both tolerating each other’s shortcomings but as soon as you got married and living together as husband and wife, you gradually seized to tolerate each other. This is because the struggle to come together as husband and wife had ended. Suddenly everyone starts picking faults every now and then, and causing you to be unhappy in your marriage. The reason is simply because you can no longer tolerate

him/her. Today l tell you the No.1 key to stay happy in your marriage is Tolerate.
FORGIVENESS Learn to forgive your spouse at all times even when you are badly hurt, make sure you don’t go to bed nor sleep with anger or grudges, and always try and make up ASAP.
STOP NAGGING Because each time you nag you are harming yourself and causing pains to yourself and your spouse... When you nag, you end up nursing internal injuries in your heart. I would suggest that you talk less and control your mouth. This is because 90% of your troubles are caused by your tongue.
UNDERSTANDING
ability to demonstrate a high level of understanding in every circumstances in your marriage provides instant solution. Keeping third party involvement away from your marriage is also important. In some circumstances your marriage is just being sustained by understanding. This is because there will always be a time when 4 letter words (LOVE) will be lacking. These are the moment when you would need to apply sense of wisdom. With knowledge and understanding, you are sure to restore happiness in your marriage
