POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

ROSS SWAN (RS)

PGMAG: An interview with the ‘Soul-Inspired’ leader is indeed a privilege. Thank you for honouring us with this great opportunity to know more about you and what you are about in the world. Who is Ross Swan? RS: Ross Swan is a person who want to make a positive difference in people’s lives. From my simple but happy childhood up until now it’s been a journey of learning. In my former corporate life, I worked for/with some great leaders as well as working for some absolute shockers. I could see on daily basis the effect on people’s lives a leader can have. From happiness driven by a sense of purpose and fulfilment (good Leadership) to a sad day by day existence filled with frustration from poor leadership. That started my journey into executive coaching. If I can help mangers be better leaders then I am not only helping them to be better, I am improving the lives of all the people who come under their sphere of influence. That’s what excites me. PGMAG: We have been following your work on social media, and they (your work) speak volumes of inspiration. Tell us a little bit about your journey as leader in personal and organisational development. RS: When my life’s purpose started to become clear to me as I just mentioned, I left corporate life to become an executive coach. I then moved from Brisbane, Australia to Singapore where I felt

I had more opportunities to grow my business. That wasn’t easy to leave family friends and start up again in a new country not knowing anyone. I have had some tough times over the years that certainly challenged me and I don’t regret a thing What a teacher that has been. PGMAG: What inspired you to become a voice of change in your industry? RS: It’s that desire to help people have better lives because they are working for better leaders’ vision. I can only physically coach an insignificant number of people in the whole scheme of things. By speaking out across the globe through social media I

may help a lot more.

time rather then quantity.

PGMAG: In your opinion what do you think would support more leaders to become more productive in their fields of endeavours? RS: Organisations that truly walk the talk in developing their leaders. Developing leadership pathways through experiential learning and coaching etc. This is still poorly done and would happen overnight if the opportunity cost of poor leadership was monetised and put on the balance sheet. PGMAG: You have worked in various industries including ‘oil and gas, what are the 3 most important keys of leadership that have enabled you to stay relevant in your field of purpose? RS: Stay true to your inner self. Connect with people with positive intent and be disciplined to do the things that good leaders do.

PGMAG: What do you think prevents some leaders from impacting positivity into the lives of those they serve? RS: They get too caught up in their own world. The key is to take time to consciously try to connect with people with positive intentions. This often happens because they get stuck in outdated beliefs. Thought is energy and therefore crate matter. A positive mindset, belief system and positive action is necessary to be impactful. For that the source of the hindering or unsupportive thoughts and beliefs needs to be uncovered and transformed. This is just some of what we do in our work at Soul-Inspired-Leadership.

PGMAG: As a voice in ‘Human Resources’ development – especially in Singapore and Australia, how do you manage to create a work/life balance? RS: That’s always a challenge, especially with my travel the way it is now. I make a conscious effort to plan time. The key is to focus on quality

PGMAG: What has been your biggest challenge as a leader? RS: Initially it was going to Singapore and establishing a business without knowing anyone. Now it’s improving global leadership standards so more people enjoy going to work. PGMAG: We know you engineer so many global projects including ‘PODCASTING’. Please tell us more about it (PODCAST), and

how people can access the resource. RS: I see podcasts as a great resource. Because it’s a sound only medium, the content must be engaging and of interest to listeners. We try to do that with our podcasts. Podcasts can be accessed in many ways, via iTunes and Castbox to name a few mediums. Our leadership podcasts can be reached via the link below. PGMAG: What do you think is the main reason why so many people fail to succeed in business? RS: For starters, you need to truly believe (2) in what your business does and whether there is a market (1) for it. If you can answer yes to both, then you are on the way to succeeding. PGMAG: What would be your advice to a struggling business owner? RS: The adage to take time out to work on the business and not just working in the business is still very true. If you have staff, then spend time to develop them. Your business will grow as they grow. PGMAG: If you are called to address ‘world leaders’ at a

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

global congress, what would your message be? RS: Always have a positive intent when you connect with people and try to leave them in a better space then when you arrived. PGMAG: Who are your Role Models? RS: There is no one famous, just ordinary people going about their lives. It’s people I have met in my travels over the years. When I think about

it, I really have met some great people and feel privileged to have been part of their lives and them being part of mine. PGMAG: Who would be your ideal travelling companion? RS: My ideal travelling companion is my partner Naoko. It’s nice to spend time with her. That’s part of my quality time I mentioned before. PGMAG: Change is constant,

in your future pursuit of greatness. RS: Thank you Lady Anita. It’s been a pleasure to be part of your journey and support you in the value you are bringing to the world. PGMAG: Please share with our readers how to access your podcast and other brilliant work of yours, including your website and social media links. RS: Thanks, I can be reached at https://soul-inspiredleadership.com/ for our podcasts on leadership. https://twitter.com/RossSwan2 https://www.linkedin.com/in/ rossswan1

and you and I know this. Why are so many people afraid of change? RS: People like to be in control. They feel comfortable with the status quo because they are more confident in dealing with challenges they know and understand. Change throws up new situations and it’s these challenges they prefer not to deal with. PGMAG: What is your message to the young people

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

of the world? RS: Believe in yourself and look for the best in others. Also to see that life’s challenges are an opportunity to grow as a person and not to give up on. PGMAG: You are highly appreciated Ross Swan, and it has been a joy to interview you. Thank you for leading from the heart and making a difference through your work. We wish you every success

POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

ANDREW HULBERT (AH) PGMAG: Thank you Andrew for granting us this opportunity to interview you. Our mission is to showcase the brilliance of leaders and aspiring leaders from all spheres of life, of which you are one of them. AH: Thank you for having me. I’ve seen some of the leaders you have previously profiled and it’s a genuine privilege to be asked for interview. PGMAG: Who is Andrew Hulbert? AH: That’s a good question, I’m not sure I truly know the answer. I’m an incredibly hard working, working class boy, who fought for the opportunity to go to university at 18. Once I got there I decided I was going to work incredibly hard to thank my parents for the opportunity they had given me. From that moment on, I strived to take every opportunity I could and prove that it was the right path for me to travel on. I got a first in my BSc in Business and later a Distinction in my Masters at UCL. I was fortunate to get a graduate role within a Facilities Management SME and progressed to director of that business by the age of 24. I then went

on to found my own business (Pareto FM), in the Facilities Management sector, which has grown to over £16m turnover and 125 staff after just under five years. I am incredibly passionate about Social Value and use my business to do good in many different areas as well as being involved in two other social enterprises that relate to promoting diversity and tackling homelessness. I volunteer on various different groups and have won various awards/accolades which most recently included the Natwest Entrepreneur of the Year for Services Industry. PGMAG: We know that you are a leader who supports a huge team of people. Please share some insight about your business. AH: We like to promote Pareto FM as great place to work for our teams. Everything we do is to try and give our teams the exact tools they need to be able to deliver exceptional service to their customers. If something doesn’t work, we will tackle it to make it work for our team members. We get a buzz out of delivering great service, and those times when the client writes to you and just says

‘thank you’! We are passionate about developing our people and ensuring we build a leadership team of diverse individuals that represent our workforce. We’ve always been a socially aware business with a high number of women in management positions, a low gender pay gap and always wholeheartedly embracing initiatives such as the Living Wage and Environmental accreditations. Pareto FM also has a strong social value arm to the business and supported 12 different charities last year donating/ raising well over £25,000 for charitable causes in 2018

alone. PGMAG: What motivated you to set up PARETO? AH: Pareto FM was founded out of the frustrations of how the big providers operated in the facilities management sector. I found working for a larger FM business incredibly difficult as the processes, culture and procedures just didn’t work. Everything was built around how we needed to do things and wasn’t flexible to what the client needed. Therefore, Pareto FM was founded to show that you could run a great business, with extraordinary people,

who use effective processes, that could be entirely designed to deliver an exceptional service for the client. We are lucky to serve some of the biggest names in Tech, Social Media, Charity and Professional services. PGMAG: How would you describe your style of leadership? AH: Non-hierarchical, engaging, enthusiastic and vulnerable. We are all just people, it doesn’t matter what our titles are. PGMAG: What are the 3 top success keys you would offer someone who is starting up a business? AH: 1. Always treat people with respect. There is no excuse not to. In business you never know when you will need their help. 2. Be prepared to work harder than you have ever worked before. No one should motivate your more than yourself. 3. Be entirely sure on why you are doing what you are doing and more importantly why you are the best at what you do. You should be able to easily answer the question ‘Why am I doing this?’ when you are getting up at 4am after only going to sleep at 1am.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

PGMAG: What is your message to those who are struggling to build their business? AH: Be brave and stop to take stock of why it isn’t working. Is the product not good enough? Is your marketing not effective? Are your competitors delivering a better service than you? Are you too expensive? Have you fallen out of love with what you set out to do? Stop. Think about what’s not working. Write it down and then start again with a new plan. PGMAG: If you were called to speak at a Global gathering of Leaders; what would be your message? AH: We need to bring up the next generation with greater levels of tolerance and respect for each other. Many political issues across the world are forcing people to ‘take sides’ and ultimately lead to treating others differently. PGMAG: Who is your HERO/ SHERO and why? AH: Serena Williams. Incredible athlete, role model and winner. Overcoming many challenges that I couldn’t even pretend to understand. She is just the undisputed champion

of the world in her arena. PGMAG: Who would be your ideal travelling companion? AH: Simon Cowell. PGMAG: What would you say to your younger self? AH: Work harder at school to give yourself the best chance of getting into a good university or on to a placement. Work hard to make something of yourself and take your shot. PGMAG: Thank you very much for your time. We wish you more success on your journey, as you continue to make huge impact in the lives of others. AH: Thank you so much for having me. That was a genuinely fun set of questions and I hope the answers will resonate with some of your readers. POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

EMMA DI GALLO

PGMAG: Wow! Emma, you have been a great support of the Powerhouse Global Movement, and we are honored to interview you today. EDG: Hello Beautiful Lady Anita, it is an honor to be part of the Powerhouse Global Movement family! I am extremely humbled you have chosen to interview me for the magazine this month.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

PGMAG: Please tell us; who is Emma Di Gallo? EDG: I would say I am a free spirit who has lived thousands of lives. I grew up in a modest family, I never felt I belong where I was. So, I went on my quest to not only change my life but also go where I believed my home was. I used my imagination to create my own experiences regardless of my outer condition. I am

a self-taught person who has been able to learn very quickly. I never took “no” for an answer but always found a way, with the help of the universe, to go through the many storms I encountered. Sometimes, in the end, I was beaten down and broken, but I listened to my spirit. It was not always easy, but I rejected all aspects of my life that would impede me to reach the happiness and contentment I desired. I did not listen to what others had to say; if I had, I would not have accomplished what I was meant for me to do in my life. Even though I am sharing my life experiences, I am an extremely private person.

PGMAG: We know that you are an animal lover. What’s your favorite animal and why did you choose this particular animal? EDG: One comes to mind is the Phoenix from the Greek mythology. The reason I am choosing this one is because we are like this beautiful bird. Rising from our own ashes, while we are growing and maturing, we are changing. Each change in our life guides us closer to who we truly are. During this process we are leaving our old self behind to become who we are meant to be. When you are rising, you are becoming this beautiful light that enables you to continue to elevate yourself to higher ground. PGMAG: From the stories you have shared recently with us, it appears to us that you have had a very challenging time on your journey to where

you are. Please share with us some of the experiences you had, and the steps you took to overcome your challenges. EDG: As a child our household wasn’t filled with love, physical abuses were part of our lives. It was terrifying to go through the punishment we had to go through. These days we would call it child abuse, we were terrified of both of my parents. As much as we tried to keep ourselves out of trouble, we could not help it but made some of them. The punishments never fit “the crimes” but it was a way of life. I found away when my parents were in a screaming match to go back in my mind and create a movie in my head that was the complete opposite. It helped me to go through the strict life we where living. But also, as I grew older to do not repeat what I saw as a young child. Too often children will emulate what they have seen in their outer conditions. I refused to do that instead I became the better part of me. When I was a young girl, we (my sisters and I) where going to a retired teacher for after class lessons. This lady was doing it for all the under privileged kids in the town in which we were living. As much as I was doing my homework with her, she never seemed

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

satisfy with it. One day she looked at me with a solemn look and told me point blank she had tried everything but couldn’t help me anymore. I was basically a lost cause. My first thought was OMG! my mother is going to be furious she could be angry and physical with me. While another thought in my mind said. “Hey, lady, you are wrong watch me, I am not a lost cause. I am brighter then you think.” My mother was indeed furious when she was made aware of these comments, but I never believed what that teacher told me. I was under 10 years old. Instead I let my imagination guide me. If I would have believed her, I would not have worked to accomplish all the many things in my life. I would have let the outer condition dictate my life. After we lost our house to foreclosure, one of my sister’s and I were living together in a city. It was one of the most heartbreaking and frightening times for me. I grew up in that house, I felt I lost all my bearings even though I was 18. I was on a survivor mode while going to school. No one knew what kind of precarity we were in. The prospect to leave was not something I could see coming, I felt trapped. I did continue to

push my imagination further to keep myself positive. I started to look at the newspapers! (Believe it or not we did not have social media or internet) I saw an ad for the club med. I applied and was invited to sit for an interview. I thought I failed the interview when I left. I was disappointed, I did not hear from them at all. Until a couple of month later, I received a call and thought it was a prank. But no, they had a spot for me in one of their villages. I knew it was my big break to finally leave. I was scared but I went for it. It was for me the incubator I needed to overcome my shyness. It was the first step for me to become who I am today. Every single obstacle I went

through from physical abuses, losing our house, being and feeling displaced most of my young life, working in hostile work environment, people attempting to block me to do my work. I had one thing that always been a life saver to me was and still is my imagination. I used it to see my happy ending regardless what I had to face. Most people would have been influenced by their outer condition, but I never did. I always work with the universe to overcome everything that came along. It was not easy but extremely difficult to the point I almost gave up a few times just hanging on finger on the ledge. Somehow, I found deep inside of the strengths to get up and keep on pushing forward. I will share more about my story in a book PGMAG: Happy Birthday to you Powerhouse Emma. We are so thrilled to know that you have arrived at “CHAPTER 50” of your life. How does it feel to be 50? EDG: Thank you Beautiful Lady Anita, I couldn’t wait to jump with both feet into this new decade. I called it year 0 because I am walking on my holy ground. I have finally reached my life purpose and I am living my life to the fullest.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Turning 50 I feel like a kid again, I just want to play and have fun. I feel pretty good with a big smile on my face every day. I have faced all my storms and life lessons. Now it is time to accomplish what I am meant to be doing here. PGMAG: What is your message for those who are challenged with life? EDG: My life has been chaotic from day one. The most powerful tool I had to get through all the traumas and challenges has been my imagination. It seems trivial when you are facing challenges in your life, I used my imagination to see myself with everything I need it from food, money, roof over my head or a job. I believed in myself when no one did, I did not give up on me but instead learned to lean on the universe and see a happy ending. I listened to my inner voice, my spirit, to guide me along the journey. I let the warrior in me become my trailblazer. If someone has closed the door, I needed to be patient and find the one that was open for me to go through. But how often have I lost it and scream at the universe? Too many times! I understood that when perfect synchronicity is not ready, I

had to wait. The rewards that came were worth the wait. My word of advice “believe in yourself, listen to your inner voice”. Do not give up your dreams, surround yourself with the circle of light which are people who you truly trust and will always have your best interest no matter what! Coming out of those challenges you are not only learn your life lessons, but you are maturing and growing. It is part of the process for us to become who we are meant to be. PGMAG: AS an advocate of Global collaboration, how do you encourage more people to come together as a team in order to create stronger network? EDG: Well let’s talk about the ego world for a minute. One major problem we have is people living in the ego world. When you are in that world your instinct is to keep everything “close to your vest” sharing information is not part of what you are going to do. People think by doing that I am in position of power, in fact what they do not realize is they are paralyzing progress and doing more harm to the company, and the team they are working with. Becoming a rising star

September-October 2019

14

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

tends to bring the worst out in people when you are being influence by the ego world. We cannot truly collaborate when we are in this kind of environment. When people realize that if you are open to communication and not let your ego in the driver’s seat, you are not seeing everyone as a threat but instead you are open to come to the table and help for the greater good. I have been the bridge for many years that broke those barriers because we should not be in competition against each other but coming to the realization we are more powerful if we come together. Everyone has something to share and contribute if we are open to listen. I have come to PGMAG to not only share

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

my knowledge and wisdom from the universe but also learn from other leaders and empower the readers that nothing is impossible. PGMAG: In most cases, people struggle to own their voices, what is your advice to the women of the world? EDG: We can be caught up between worlds, traditional and progressive. It is a fine line, but in order to find your voice you need to go look inward. We could be influenced by our outer condition or social network but if you place your hand on your heart and ask your spirit “is this for my highest good”? You will know the answer. Being who you truly are might be scary because

people might or might not understand you. My family never understood me; I was and still am to them the odd one in their eyes. It doesn’t influence me at all because I decided to create my own path my own way. I also am artistic so through my drawings I express myself. Find something you love to do or would like to learn and go for it. It might sound silly but if you like to dance why not do it? Something that will set you free is to do what you want to do and not wait for someone else’s approval. Just follow your heart. PGMAG: If you are to invite an ‘ICON’ to a dinner, who would that be? EDG: I had several that came

September-October 2019

15

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

to mind, but I would love to have dinner with King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan. When King Abdullah II ascended to the throne in 1999, he had taken on role to guide his country to become one of the most peaceful kingdoms in an uncertain region of the world where peace is needed. He is guiding his country to become more progressive; it is difficult to do that when traditionalists are afraid of changes. He has done an incredible job. Queen Rania has done an amazing job to give a voice to women’s rights but also education, health and youth. They have both transformed Jordan and brought some stability into a country that is surrounded by

chaos. It would be an honor to share a meal but also see how we can continue to invest in their country so they can continue to thrive. PGMAG: What would you say to your younger self? EDG: I would say to my younger self, you are love. You are going to overcome a lot in your life, but your heart of gold is still intact. You are unconditional love; you still have faith in humanity. People are going to hurt you, betray you but you will not give up on your life mission. You are going to reach your holly ground. You are going to find the peace you so well deserve. You are going to meet incredible people along the way that will inspire you, but you also are going to inspire others. All the suffering you are going to go through will open yourself to become the better part of you. The universe is watching over you. PGMAG: What’s your biggest aspiration as a woman? EDG: Continue to be the bridge between the universe and mankind. Sharing the words and wisdom of the universe but also as a person with humble beginnings, share my story so people who are facing trials and tribulation

will come to the realization of what they can accomplish, which, at times, might seem impossible. Giving back to the world, I have a soft spot for animals I want to continue to be their voices. I also would like to do the same for the children, they also do not have a voice and we need to protect them as well. There is so much we can do so our legacy will be passed on in a positive way, the next generation can have a better life. Continue to walk on my holy ground guided by the universe, be happy and at peace. PGMAG: Thank you for contributing to the development of other. Thank you for granting us this interview. We wish you success in your journey. Please share your links with us. EDG: Thank you so much beautiful Lady Anita for the privileged to be interviewed and share a little more about who I am. I made a commitment to PGMAG and will continue to be an active contributor. Your mission is an inspiration for women around the world. What you have created is impacting the world in a positive way, we need to keep this going!

POWERHOUSE GLOBAL MAGAZINE (PGMAG) INTERVIEW WITH:

KURT RATASKI (KR) PGMAG: Thank you Kurt for granting us this opportunity to interview you. We know you have accomplished greatness in your life so far. Please tell us; who are you? KR: Hi Anita. My name is Kurt Rataski, and I am a leader with 30+ years of sales experience in the insurance, telecommunications, and technology industry. I recently took on a new role at Alliant Insurance Services, where I focus on mitigating risk within the food and beverage, technology, and real estate sectors. Outside of work, I am a father of two boys who attend local New Jersey universities. In my spare time, I enjoy personal fitness and nutrition. PGMAG: What do you do to serve the needs of others? KR: Serving the needs of others has always been part of me and my faith. When I have seen someone in need, I have always tried to help where I can. This could be a simple introduction, connection to new work opportunities, financial assistance, or even moral/mentoring support. About 12 years ago, I had the opportunity to pull together a traveling basketball team comprised of children of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The goal was to teach them the sport, integrate kids of all cultures, but more importantly, it was to provide them with skill and tools to utilize in everyday life. Some of these lessons included

utilizing restraint, being respectful, handling adversity in a mature manner, and understanding violence was not the solution. Through this experience, I learned how the power of listening and positive reinforcement could impact the lives of others. In addition, most of these children were not even considering going to college. Through their participation on this basketball team, the majority of them ended up pursuing their college degrees. PGMAG: Congratulations on your new role as the Senior Vice President of Alliant Please tell us more about your organisation KR: Alliant Insurance Services is one of the nation’s leading distributors of diversified insurance products and services. They were established in 1925 and are the ninth largest insurance broker in the United States. Their 2018 revenues equated to over $1.4 billion with 110 offices nationwide and nearly 4,000 employees. PGMAG: Looking at the journey you have made in your life, what advice would you give to someone struggling to find their voice in the market place?

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

KR: When someone is struggling, I ask them to take a pause, reflect, see where they are and where they need to go. This helps them understand where the gap is and visualize how to get to the desired conclusion. PGMAG: What makes you different as a leader? KR: As a leader, I am always accessible and very approachable. I am a consistent communicator, and I inspire others to have the confidence to maximize their potential. PGMAG: What are your top 3 tips for success? KR: My top three tips for success are as follows: 1. Help others first. 2. Network like crazy. Connect people where you can. 3. Be authentic. And I have a fourth tip, and that is “present yourself and communicate in a positive manner.” PGMAG: What does success mean to you as a leader? KR: Success as a leader to me means passing on my knowledge and experience to the next generation. PGMAG: What was one challenge you had to deal

with in order to move yourself forward in your professional life? KR: In early 2008, I had just sealed a deal with my largest prospect. Under the assumption of flying to Boston for a one-on-one meeting with my manager to discuss the deal implementation, I was actually surprised to learn I was being terminated. I reached out to members of my network immediately and quickly realized that many of them were unable or unwilling to help me. They were simply names on a business card. By going through this trauma, I learned a few lessons: 1) I would be more diligent on who I counted on as my personal board of directors and 2) I would try to help anyone that was facing a similar career setback. PGMAG: What would you say to your younger self? KR: Be patient and always look to grow from your successes as well as your failures. PGMAG: If you were called to address “World Leaders”; what would be the topic of your speech? KR: If I was called upon to address a group of world leaders, I would want my topic to be World Hunger. With all

of the world’s most powerful leaders, corporations, and technology in attendance, I would want to compel them to form a coalition to address this platform. This would encompass items such as growing crops, funding farms, and distributing food to the people and areas of need. PGMAG: Who would be your ideal travelling companion? KR: My ideal traveling companion is my significant other, because she is fun, an experienced traveller and has visited over 80 countries. Recently we checked off a few of my bucket list items which included visiting the Vatican in Rome and swimming with pigs in Exuma. PGMAG: What do you think holds people back from reaching their full potential in life? KR: Fear of failure and insecurity can hold people back from reaching their full potential in life. This is usually because they are afraid to take risks. PGMAG: You were recently nominated for a “POWERHOUSE GLOBAL AWARD” as an “INSPIRATIONAL LEADER”, how does it feel to be

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

acknowledged by the people you serve? KR: I am humbled and appreciative to be included with the other award recipients. PGMAG: Thank you for your generous support of the event (Powerhouse Global Conference/Award 2019) taking place in London, UK this October. KR: You are welcome and Alliant is proud to be one of the conference sponsors. PGMAG: Who is your biggest inspiration? KR: My biggest inspiration is my father, Leonard Rataski. He is self-made, worked his way up the corporate ladder at NJ Bell, and taught me the value of hard work and persistence. He instilled in me to never give up even in the face of adversity. My father was also a role model for our family. He has impacted those values even in his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

communicating, such as faceto-face discussions, phone calls, etc.” PGMAG: If you know what you know now, what would you do differently in your professional life? KR: If I knew what I know now, I would have pursued my advanced degree (Masters) in Finance. PGMAG: Thank you so very much for granting us this interview, we wish you massive successes in all your life endeavours. Please share your contacts/ links with us. CHASE YOUR DREAMS BHAGWAN SHEKHAWAT

The norm is to see women, men and children with disabilities on the streets begging for alms looking haggard.

The world of our dreams is appealing, attractive and amazing as well. We all live in a unique world of dreams of ours in own way where we all dream a lot, based on our individualistic perceptions about our future goals, plans and endeavours. This classic world of dreams is kaleidoscopic but challenging in practical life. Despite all these challenges, we

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

still dream unbelievably, think desperately and plan deliberately to achieve those cherished goals by attaining the dizzying heights in our personal, professional and social careers. In the process of pursuing these cherished goals, we come across many hurdles, obstacles and challenges but our extraordinary determination, unwavering commitment

24

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

and indomitable attitude enable us to overcome these wonderfully.

UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE OF YOUR HEART Most of us fail miserably to understand the language of own heart and get carried away with the unrealistic and impractical thoughts. We must, therefore, try to understand the language of own heart first and then identify our goals with lot of deliberations and not in haste. Identification of own goal is paramount in life to move on the right path with the right momentum and in the right direction. Many people are unable to identify own dreams perfectly and correctly which at later stage turns out to be time consuming and waste of energy and efforts. We must also be cautious in chasing own dreams rather than chasing the dreams of others. We must first believe in our guts, strengths and inner calling. Our own conscious is the best judge to convey us the right decision before we set on the journey of chasing of own dreams. Always believe in yourself because you have to chase your own dreams and the reality of life is that nobody would be there with

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

you in this challenging journey of life while moving on its path. Though the journey of pursuing own dreams may be enthusing but it requires passion, zeal and perfection to keep moving ahead and attain the desired heights.

SHADE THE FEAR OF DEFEAT The fear of defeat would always be a concern and main cause of withdrawal from the battle of chasing own dreams half way and finally deviating from the right path. One must, therefore, be fully focused and undoubtedly determined on own goals despite cropping of impromptu hurdles and challenges in routine life. One must believe in own guts proudly and identify own strengths accurately so that it would empower you to be more confident and energetic while pursuing your ultimate goals. You must recharge your instincts perfectly and fuel them appropriately to render required level of momentum which would keep you always enthused and energised to encounter any obstacles and enable you further to finally overcome the fear of defeat. The fear of defeat incapacitates us and makes us weaker. Once you are out of the fear of defeat in life, you

can achieve what you dream, deserve and are really worth of it. It is also simultaneously important to identify your hobby correctly and equip yourself suitably by acquiring quality knowledge about it from a repute institute. The imbibing of quality knowledge would create a sense of satisfaction within self and elevate your emotions incredibly to face any kind of challenges at later stage in life. At the same time, you must muster totally and invest your contemporary resources smartly while chasing own dreams. The contemporary resources must also cater for the ongoing technological advancements, utilisation of proper tools and alignment

with the prevailing tends.

PRACTICE MAKES A PERSON PERFECT This old saying of practice makes a person perfect, still holds good. You must make your sustained efforts to ensure that you achieve expected perfectness in your competencies to take on the impending challenges. The repeated practices would make you feel stronger and the periodic rehearsals would further empower you unbelievably. You must enrich your vocabulary bank by learning particular and prevailing words which must add appreciable value to your written as well as verbal communication skills. It is generally said that the better

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

ideas only come to the mind of those who have better vocabulary. You must read the newspapers and periodicals to enhance your vocabulary level and remain updated with the ongoing changes and emerging paradigm shifts in this fourth wave society. It is desired to be always well informed, socially connected rightly and seamless alignment with the emerging trends in the contemporary volatile world. Those who don’t adjust and adapt to the ongoing paradigm shifts taking place in the socio-political as well as socioeconomic fabric, later feel left out and isolated.

THE PARETO PRINCIPLE (80/20 RULE)

The 80/20 rule indicates that only 20% people do things differently and achieve the desired goals in their professional as well personal lives. Remaining 80% are the just passengers who tag along with the 20% people who render the required leadership to any organisation. Also those great leaders in the world who have excelled in their own fields, have done things differently and passionately. You must, therefore, make a habit to read at least one biography/autobiography in a year to remain energetic, enthused and motivated every time. Also keep in mind that never ever underestimate your own strengths, skills and competencies because the

September-October 2019

26

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

challenges are part of daily life but we must overcome these by keep enhancing own skills periodically and upgrading our competencies time to time. We must remain always empowered, enthused and energetic in attitude so that we can win over the difficulties in life at each stage.

BE ADAPTIVE IN ATTITUDE IN CHANGING TIME The world is undergoing unexpected and accelerated changes in the socioeconomic fabric as well as in the geopolitical sphere. These rapid changes require adequate adaptive nature and reasonable positivity in attitude to adjust and adopt the paradigm shifts

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

taking place in the present day world. We must swiftly and smartly align with the emerging trends and adjust in the changed scenario without showing any resistance. You must also follow your unique style of working which must have yielded proven results in the past and never imitate the style of others. Never lose your originality and unique pattern of doing things differently. The successful people always have their own style of achieving the desired results and doing the same thing in a different manner which eventually make them great and successful in this world. Never get discouraged if people criticise you, rather it is an indication that you are doing things differently

in a unique style and exhibits that you are on the right and progressive path.

DESIGN THE PITCH OF YOUR LIFE Designing the pitch of own life is an essential task to move ahead and keep an account of own periodic progress. We must decide deliberately about own dreams and then convert these into the cherished goals to attain sustained excellence and expected level of perfectness. Keeping this in view, we must design our own pitch of life by marking the realistic milestones to be achieved in a particular time line. This would keep us always focused and centric as well vigilant to keep performing seamlessly

September-October 2019

27

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

in pursuance of own dreams. These milestones can be documented in the form of Micro Goals, Short Term Goals, Mid Term Goals and Long Term Goals. Once the periodic gaols have been set, you must pursue these with passionate zeal and perfect precision. But one must be fearless and firm while travelling on the pitch of your life.

IMBIBE LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES Our thoughts constitute our future action plans and compel us to think and behave in a particular fashion. We must always think like a leader and keep enhancing our skills and competencies. A leader must always think passionately, positively and progressively to render the appreciable leadership. There is an urgent requirement in this rapidly changing world to be an adaptive leader rather than being like a line manager to excel socially and professionally to attain greater upheavals.

REENERGISE, REJUVENATE AND REDISCOVER YOURSELF In the changing time we must be adaptive, resilient

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

and flexible to achieve our targeted goals. We have to be extraordinarily dedicated and unwaveringly committed with an indomitable attitude to achieve expected excellence and attain dizzying heights. Our sustained contributions and seamless efforts would definitely enable us to chase our cherished goals in life. In the process of achieving this, we need to reinvent ourselves by reenergising our emotions, rejuvenating our spirits and rediscovering self. A positive and visible transformation in attitude, precision in planning and passion in pursuing the goals are essential ingredients to be a successful person in the contemporary progressive world which is volcanically volatile and rapidly experiencing the accelerated paradigm shifts emerging in each sphere of our lives.

About BHAGWAN SHEKHAWAT Bhagwan Shekhawat is a motivator, futurist and a socio-political scientist who is residing in Jaipur city of Rajasthan state of Indian subcontinent. He takes immense pride in enthusing and building the leadership skills of the young global leaders. In addition, he expresses his invaluable views on the formation of the Fourth Wave Societies in the emerging geosocial world order. A keen reader and a progressive ideologist who amazingly advocates about the impending global Waves of Change and the ongoing Paradigm Shifts shaping the new world order in the field of contemporary socioeconomic fabric and volatile geopolitical spectrum.

ife is not explained, it lives. We must learn that Love is the most important lesson of the universe. Love is a choice. Love is Divine creation, it means God. God is Love and Love is God. Love is the highest creative force in the Universe. I choose to decide with love in all my decisions, I have always chosen with my soul and my whole heart and found that this is the secret for a quiet and perfect life. Love gives each one at least one story because

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

we live in dreams that, thanks to the Universe, we get to turn them into reality. We hope to see that our desires are always fulfilled, if we know how to fruition the intuition and feelings. In all these struggles I learn something and I want to share with you: what is destined to be yours will be anyway. Whoever is meant will find the way to your heart ... whether you want it or not. The truth is that life does not always go according to our plan. We will have moments when everything is apparently perfect and then it will completely disintegrate. We will be with a person with whom we think we will be forever, and then we will look helplessly how the relationship collapses. We will continue on the professional path that we want to go and

then we will find it does not make sense. We will climb and fall. And, over time, we’ll pick up again. What do we have to learn from all this carousel of happenings and thoughts? Life is beautiful and we need to teach our lessons of life and go further on whatever happens. Let us have the power to rejuvenate our own ashes and leave room for better, where we go. We need to know that in all those moments we can not have the answers to all the questions in our head. We can not understand what’s going on, where we should go, what should we do. We can not know what is good and what is wrong or what is ours to

preserve. We just have to trust in the Universe, in God, in destiny, in ourselves. We have to go on. We have to know that what is destined to be ours will be anyway find the way to us. Even if this is not happening now or when we want we must not despair or lose our patience. What a wonderful lesson is patience, how much we learn to have gratitude and respect for those around us depends on our soul. I understand that everybody is looking for love and gratitude, so we only have to do to respect the laws of the universe and wait for the miracle to happen. And yes, Love is a miracle that

many have understood is the sublime moment of this life and that it matters to know how to love and leave yourself loved. What must be ours will be. Relationships will change to make room for the right people in our lives. Love will disappear because that person was not meant to be with us forever. Jobs will change to create new opportunities. The plans will change so that they do not stay stuck in one place. In conclusion, the master of his mind is the master of the Universe. Nothing is accidental. Beloved, let your love, life is a divine miracle.

LEADING DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA THE ROLE OF PERSONAL CONTACTS; TECHNOLOGY AND KNOWLEDGE; AND, THE OPPORTUNITY OF A DEAL

DAVID SMITH

CHAIRMAN OF BRITISH AFRICAN BUSINESS ALLIANCE LTD. The Continent is changing. The politics, the economics, the commercial reality, everything is in a state of flux. In some places, the development is accelerated and visually imposing, in others it proceeds at snail’s pace leaving people and communities marooned in the sea of subsistence, which is now doted with islands of prosperity, highlighted by electric light and the other trappings of development. Recently, I saw and collected a new picture of Africa. Created by the Artificial Intelligence Team at Facebook, it is likely to be the most accurate yet produced. It purports to display the locations of people based on the connection reports of Facebook users.

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

The extent and rural distribution of the population is remarkable.

that a modern existence places on power, water and communication.

It really demonstrates clearly extent of the current issues and the needs of people without showing one destitute child, or one wealthy family… and it underlines the importance of location and the requirements

Where you live affects what you can do… as your access to skills and services can be constrained. We must recognize that urbanization cannot be, solely, the further growth of existing cities but must mean the development

September-October 2019

31

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

of new ones. They will be cities that can only be built on the support of their surrounding catchment strengths. However, I often comment on the role that Facebook plays in stimulating migration, imagining a thought process that goes something like:“I see you… I see what you post and know that if I were to live in a city, or a developed country, like you; that I could drive a Mercedes like yours… I can cross the Sahara, the Mediterranean, Europe and make landfall on an island full of wealth and promise, and enjoy the success that you display.”

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

It is a perception that is wildly different from this cold, distant place, where avocados can cost £2 and life, for most visitors, tourists or even permanent residents is expensive and far from trouble free.

SO, WHO LEADS DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA? The question is not rhetorical. We have the histories of the Original Tribes, the impositions of the Colonial Powers, the Marauders and Freedom Fighters, the Development Agencies

and Charities and now the current theme of Sustainable Businesses and the call for external expertise. In each community, even each country there is a different starting point; the politics is not the same in one place as another, and while the issues may be similar, the solutions beyond technology are complex. One man’s benevolent dictator is another’s breeder of terror, whilst remarkably few of them, over the years have held their own people in high esteem. For me, it is those people who must lead development, each one, creating the power and positive influence

September-October 2019

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

that supports a family, a community, a town, a city, a state, even a country. There is a vanguard of development experts who, rightly in my view, assess the opportunities and call for “African solutions to African issues.” So, I conclude that it must be down to the individual African to make the difference, to step outside their immediate comfort zone and stand up for his or her beliefs through a commercial commitment that safeguards the family and builds the community. “Britain is a nation of shopkeepers!” decried

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Napoleon, and yet every developed world economy is highly dependent on the Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Sector. Its important contribution is underpinned by thousands of ‘Moms and Pops’, who each make a difference in their location by providing relevant services and solutions. Yet, when I listen to African entrepreneurs most are set on running commercial empires with seats alongside Dangote, Ibrahim and Strive… important ambitions perhaps, but not recognizing the need to establish and run the small businesses first that are the foundations of, and essential to, greater success.

“I see you… I see what you post and know that if I were to live in a city, or a developed country, like you; that I could drive a Mercedes like yours… I can cross the Sahara, the Mediterranean, Europe and make landfall on an island full of wealth and promise, and enjoy the success that you display.”

AN INCREASE IN PERSONAL REVENUE OF 300% For me the leaders are those who provide the building blocks of widely held wealth… the Charity from Walton on Thames that increased revenues for women in the village by up to 300% - www. letthemhelpthemselves.org. The trainers, trained to deliver knowledge and capacity to farmers and artisans who can then move beyond subsistence. Like the lady from Leeds who increased a tomato farmer’s revenue from $300 to $13,000 – a revenue that makes the minimum wage in UK far less attractive than a profitable agricultural venture in Zimbabwe! The lawyer growing cabbages Nigeria; and, so many others, who have addressed a desperate need, support these examples.

CONTACTS, KNOWLEDGE AND THE OPPORTUNITY OF A DEAL As I mostly meet business leaders in the diaspora, it is the opportunity of those who have travelled away from

www.powerhouseglobalmag.com

Africa, who have the most potential to lead and stimulate change. The 5.5 million Africans in the UK are well placed to access technology, funding as well as the expertise and management capability of business leaders, not just in the community, but also across the UK. The problem is the historic fears, replicated often in both personal experience and reportage that cut away at confidence and trust. This leaves the Black Pound as the one least likely to circulate in its community and most likely to be used to employ the skills of those from outside. Yet, with some 300,000+ serious business leaders and anywhere between 60 million and 100 million worthwhile contacts on the continent, there is so much potential to make serious connections, at multiple levels of the business community on the continent. So what about the deals? Does “the President” need to have a finger in every deal? “Certainly Not!” is my answer. The need is to create jobs for young people, to provide the security of sustainable

businesses and to address the social and care needs of societies disrespected by governments, for years, with more selfish criteria. These jobs, businesses and services can only be provided by experienced people, who recognize the dynamics of the business conundrum: Sales + Cash flow - Costs = Profit and survival. So if you are a Mom or a Pop or even a budding Dangote… get started, create African solutions, address African issues and bring the innovation, management and expertise to bear on righting the wrongs of historic attitudes. If you want to know where to start, I would suggest at home, create a strong family, a strong community, a strong industry and diversify as you can into other complimentary businesses that add to the wealth of your family and your country.

THE BIGGEST DANGER… Yet against this enthusiasm for entrepreneurial activity there are dangers, but beyond the political, economic and commercial risks, the biggest danger is in ‘not starting!’ The slower the start, the

longer it takes to learn the lessons, the longer poverty will last, not just in your country but in your community, and your extended family. So, take the first steps‌ Determine what you can do. Understand how it must be done and who will buy the product or service you create. Recognise your markets:locally, regionally, nationally, within the African Continent and beyond its coastline. Understand the priorities of your buyers and consumers; and, begin the process of creating your business. Do not bite off more than you can chew, but recognize the resources at your disposal. Build an opening balance sheet for your business that values your contribution fairly, (land, knowledge, contacts and expertise), whilst offering an investor an attractive return. KEYS TO GLOBAL VISIBILITY ANITA DUCKWORTH-BRADSHAW

Yes! More people spend a good % of their time on the internet and face – to – face conversations are gradually fading away.

We are living in the Global village and those who are serious about enjoying the benefits are already making huge moves. The new age of “information over load”, and the birth of social or the jet age of endless possibilities which had seen the increase of personal and business growth. Although, it brought with it divisions in relationships…. Yes! More

people spend a good % of their time on the internet and face – to – face conversations are gradually fading away. Taking my thought back to 31st December 1999 when the world was at her knees praying for the day to break. So many people thought the world would come to an end at the arrival of year 2000. It was scary to listen to the

news and the conversation of the majority. There were fear in the atmosphere and a lot of businesses shut down due to the fear of the unknown. There were so many unanswered questioned from children and young adults at that time. One could smell the scent of fear in the atmosphere. What will the new age bring to us asked many? what will happen should the world ends at the wake of January 2000. Hahahahahahah! I could sense fear in my environment especially in the camp of those with so much wealth and who had given little to the poor amongst them. Suddenly, people gave their

lives to Christ and desired to make heaven. I laugh about it now because I can vividly picture that period. I was only just a young adult working towards a better future with lots of opportunities in the horizon. At that time, I was only two months into my new job in a multi-national company in Nigeria. Then I stopped and asked myself; why would the world end now that I have just started to live my life, earn my own money without others interfering with my choices. Why now? Little did I realise that GLOBALIZATION has come to stay and those who are ready to welcome it will benefit tremendously. Yes! It did arrive and the world did not end as joy filled the air with lots of celebration. The only thing most people failed to realise at that time is that the world had suddenly become smaller. We welcomed the new technological age where you can be wherever you desire to be with a click of a button on your system. We are living in the Global Village and to enjoy the benefits, we must position ourselves and our businesses with the aim of becoming ‘GLOBALLY VISIBLE’.

Here are some of the keys of GLOBAL VISIBILITY; • Identify your purpose – most individuals are living on other’s idea of who they should become. Due to this ignorance, they follow the trend of the society and end up getting lost in the crowd. They end up with people who are going nowhere. Like one of my mentors’ would ask; what are you about in the world? I ask you who is reading this piece the same question; what are you about in the world? Not wanting to confuse you with my question, it simply means; what is your purpose on earth? Considering the asked question, you would understand that we are all expected to be about something whilst on earth (living our individual calling). Isn’t it scary to know that only 1% vital few of the earth population are absolutely in charge of the other 99% of the wondering generality? This I read from books such as ‘THE SECRET’ and some of the books written by the late legend of personal development (Zig Ziglar). To become Globally Visible, one must identify who one is and

what gifts one has within them. It is finding out one’s role in the field of play to better one’s life and that of others. Show me a person who is living his/her purpose and I will show you a person of success. Without purpose driven living, one becomes a part of the 99% wondering generality. Purpose identification is the start of personal and professional development. Those who have the privilege of knowing their purpose effortlessly rides the high tide of life. They are usually very optimistic and they are not afraid of the changes happening around them. The

I knew my purpose was to become a life transformer and make a name for myself. Growing up in an environment where people did not mind what they become was not an easy ride. I made a choice not to settle with the rest of the crowd and follow in their belief

purpose driven individuals are eager to break new grounds, support those who are struggling and improve their current situation. So I suggest to you to go on a purpose finding mission in order to become more than you already are. Do not limit yourself by living on other’s idea. It is time to step out of your comfort zone and work your way towards a successful living. Take risk on yourself and others. Stop waiting for validation from people who are not really interested in your future. As a young adult, I knew my purpose was to become a life transformer and make a name for myself. Growing up in an environment where people did not mind what they become was not an easy ride. I made a choice not to settle with the rest of the crowd and follow in their belief. It was as if I was rebellious to the system but my future was more precious tome than the conclusion in the minds of those around. I could not settle with the crowd. I just did not see myself living a pitiable life. I was on a mission to succeed and to take others along with me. Some even doubted my motives of wanting to become more. I

gave myself to reading and meditation. With God’s help and my internal knowledge of who I am, I discovered courage. This became my daily companion to keep on pressing forward until I become the person I desired to be. I made conscious effort to edge towards my destination ignoring all the distractions along the way. You too can rise above your challenged situation by deciding to win. • Have a clear-cut vision of the changes you desire in your personal and professional life. With vision comes motivation and direction. For one to beginning a journey of any kind, one must know where one is headed for. Most people and businesses fail because of lack of vision. To become Globally visible, one must identify where and when one want to be seen or gain connections. The importance of having a vision before commencing on any kind of personal or professional journey, is that you will be able to switch lanes or make a U-turn when you discover that what you are seeing on your path does not look like what you have envisioned before starting

your journey. It helps one to make a quick correction before it’s too late. Take a project for instance, before a good project is handed to a project Director and manager, the stake holders must have had a clear vision of what their product will look like during the time of commissioning (finished product). The project manager knows that stage boundary (monitoring stages of the project) had to be put in place before the project commences. The reason for having a stage boundary is to monitor the progress of the project, and to ensure that the workers are following the exact model of the project. The stage

boundary helps to correct any errors on the project during the process of completion. If not corrected, it can lead to project rejection and could eventually cost more than the stipulated cost. Having a vision creates the opportunity of stage boundary in one’s personal and professional life. This supports with changing directions at the right time and moving forward with confidence. There are times in our journey when it looks like nothing is working, even with all the effort we have made in our personal and professional work. At this point in our journey, it would be wise to remind ourselves of the vision we saw before setting out on that particular

journey. Sadly so many people have allowed others to twat their original vision because of sentiments and fear of rejection. Please stay on track with what you are called to do in this life. It is ok if you make mistakes or rejected by those whom you thought would stand by your side until you have made it safely to you desired destination. “To get somewhere meaningful, you must learn to drop a lot of baggage.” – Anita Duckworth-Bradshaw • Set Goals: To become Globally Visible you must prepare to set goals that would take you from where you are to a high ground in the field of play. Goal setters are world changers and they

are not easily put off by the challenges life presents to them. Goals setting are the reason the 1% Vital few of the society are able to control the wealth of the Globe. When you have a goal, life become more interesting to live and the fear of failure diminishes. Any individual without goals is simply living their lives to

chances. Setting goals is not wishful thinking but a catalyst to facilitate the process of change. When you set goal/s, you immediately align yourself with the endless possibilities life has to offer. Until I understood this truth, I was one of the 99% wondering generality who thought that things just happen. • Hold unto courage - Courage they say is the backbone of every successful individual. An individual with courage has the confidence to face any obstacle in life.. As a powerhouse your courage will see you through every challenge that comes your way. Apparently, the lack of courage creates problems and difficult living in the lives of so many people.

Those who made history in their time had courage – no wonder a great philosopher said; “Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.” – Mary Anne Radmacher It does not matter what you may have been through – hold unto courage and she will sail you safely to your desired destination. When you embrace courage you will see possibilities in every challenge you are faced with. It took courage to leave my native land (Nigeria) to Europe. It took courage to start my business. It also took courage to de-clutter my circle

of influence, and to step away from those who no longer my purpose. Courage will take you to places you have never imagined before. As a teenager, growing up in a very challenging environment made me stronger than my peers. I never celebrated birthdays until my 20th – then I had moved on and grown into my own person. Courage was the backbone of my ever increasing learning and evolution. The courage to succeed in my chosen areas life was my source of strength. If you carefully study the lives of all success people (women especially), you will discover that courage played an active part in their achievements. How many times have you tried to work on your dreams? How many times have you allowed fear to get the better of you? A person without courage unconsciously invites weakening and demoralizing elements to themselves. Courage has the power to challenge all unfavourable situations. When you make courage your backbone, you will be able to face all physical, emotional, spiritual and mental battles of life. Welcome to the best day of your life. Congratulations!

POWERFUL GLOBAL WOMEN FOUNDATION Powerful Global Women Foundation (Powerhouse Charity) was founded in 20l6 in Nigeria, West Africa, by Lady Anita DuckworthBradshaw. The core objective of this organization is to transform the lives of women and children, through various projects centred around the need of the service group. In 20l6 Lady Anita single handedly fed over 400 children as part of “project feed l000 children globally”, and held an empowerment conference for the women. Through this project, so many women have gone to do great things with the knowledge they gained from the event. She recently held a life transforming event for women in Lagos, Nigeria as part of International women’s month celebration 20l8. The turnout was very encouraging. She is working towards supporting more families to keep their children and wards in school through” project back-toschool” starting in September 20l8.
