PASMAG’s Tuning 365 returned to Formula DRIFT Long Beach for their second event in less than 7 months, and over 200 cars competed for their chance to be featured in PASMAG! Awards included Larry’s Pick by famed shooter Larry Chen, who chose Tino Fauatea (1989 BMW 325i), while the Driver’s Choice was made by Dylan Hughes who selected Marvin Fonacier (1995 BMW 850 Ci). The show also marked the official kick-off of the 10th Annual PASMAG Tuner Battlegrounds Championship presented by LiquiMoly. In this #TBGLIVE event, Alvin Balahadia (2014 Porsche Boxster) received the highest vote total, and will now receive a spot in the Top 64 bracket for the annual championship. Editor’s Choice awards were also presented to Anthony Valenzuela (2001 Acura NSX), Christian Cruz (1994 Mazda RX-7 FD3S) and Daniel Leung (2010 Subaru WRX STI Hatchback). The Best Team award went to Team Hybrid. We can’t wait to see all these great builds in the pages of PASMAG and on the Tuning 365 TV Show.

PASMAG’s Tuning 365 returned to Formula DRIFT Atlanta at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on May 7th for the second straight year, and over 175 cars competed for their chance to be featured in PASMAG! The first award of the day was the Driver’s Choice, made by Jhonnattan Castro who selected Christopher Yi's 2019 Honda Civic Type-R.

The show also featured another round of the 10th Annual PASMAG Tuner Battlegrounds Championship presented by LiquiMoly. In this #TBGLIVE event, Michael Hart with his 2004 Mazda Miata received the highest vote total, and will now receive a spot in the Top 64 bracket for the annual championship.

Editor’s Choice awards were also presented to Jimmy Taylor's 1972 Datsun 510, Diego Flores' 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback and Christopher Simpson's 2008 Nissan 350z. The Best Team award went to Jade Motorsports.

A first-ever at PASMAG’s Tuning 365 Show - RAYS Wheels had their East Coast RAYS Tribute car meet presented by Mackin Industries at Formula DRIFT: Atlanta, and showcased a wide range of beautiful builds exclusively on RAYS wheels. Dylan Hughes’ Turbo DieselPowered Party Wagon is a Smoking Good Time

If you fancy yourself a Formula DRIFT fan, you’ve certainly heard Hughes’ name by this point. The recent addition to the FD Pro grid spent time working alongside Chris Forsberg’s FD team, and after some time soaking up the championship-winning vibes, he found himself at the wheel on the grid. When he isn’t driving, he’s honing his skills as a master fabricator, welder, or on-camera talent building awesome vehicles. One of those vehicles is the 2001 BMW 323i Touring Wagon you see here.

Having already built his fair share of typical drift cars, he had always wanted to put together a wagon as a party car at drift events. At the same time, he had always wanted to build something diesel-related, but the two ideas had not yet come to fruition - until now. His sponsor, Royal Purple, wanted to do something creative with their Duralec diesel oil, and Hughes started spitballing ideas to merge both desires into a wicked project wagon with a chassis he was already very familiar with. A black-smoke spewing hood exit on a wagon? Consider us interested.

Drifting is fun. Tandem drifting with your friends is even more fun. Giving ride-alongs to the homies in your purpose built drift car might be the most fun of all - so why not squeeze as many of them into your drift car as safely possible? That was part of Dylan Hughes’ mentality when he was dreaming up ways to build a party car wagon for noncompetition drift events.

The Mercedes-Benz OM606 turbo diesel inline-6 engine was something Hughes had seen online before, and thought it was a cool idea. In his words, it was basically the diesel 2JZ. The first call was to DieselPumpUK to build Hughes a properly set up OM606 of his own. Capable of well

over 500 horsepower at the wheels, the power plant was the perfect candidate for a diesel party drift car. With Garrett’s G35-1050 turbo affixed to it, the OM606 makes well in excess of 500 horsepower at the rear wheels - enough to get this wagon partying with ease - brought to the rear wheels

by way of a G Force GSR 4-speed dogbox transmission and a Winters quick-change diff.

Given the chance to build something that wasn’t a competition car, Hughes went wild since he didn’t have to adhere to any particular rulebook - it just had to be fun and safe.

Hughes’ skills as a master fabricator quickly came into play. Among the first big modifications to the chassis was a custom roll cage with dual main hoops, set to accommodate safe seating for four helmet-wearing passengers in bucket seats front and rear. The build may not be for competition, but it is all business, and it’s reflected in the very racecar-inspired interior with one exception: There is a full Sony audio system so Hughes can rock out with the crew when all seats are occupied. You won’t find that in the competition cars!

A steering kit from SLR Speed gives this wagon all the angle it needs to get sideways and smiling, while a combination of BC Racing shocks, Parts Shop Max adjustable rear arms, and E46 M3 trailing arms keep the big chassis flat and free from excess body roll in the transitions. At ground level, the wagon is spinning 18-inch Forgestar F14 wheels, which sit over top of the Parts Shop Max Z32 brake package on E46 M3 rotors - ample braking power to bring this big booty BMW to a stop with ease.

Once the dust and diesel soot clouds had settled, Hughes and his team had built one of the highest caliber purpose-built diesel drift cars on the planet. Since finishing the build, you can catch Hughes giving three-person ride-alongs at Gridlife and other fun demo days, with everyone inside staring at that diesel stack pouring soot out of the hood, something Hughes says would have to be his favorite aspect of the build. KICKER ST SERIES

Most every Basshead remembers experiencing their first “windy build.” Tightly contained in an unsuspecting volume knob, the anticipation is akin to voluntarily standing in the path of an oncoming hurricane. It’s a rite of passage containing varying mixtures of terror, anticipation and excitement.

The moment you fire up that first song, those alluring low notes come rocketing toward you with the unique promise of your own private seismic event. Straining against primal instincts of fight and flight, the bass rips through your senses. Your eyes can’t focus. Breathing becomes a conscious exercise, and your hair - well, when did you get cast in a Tim Burton film?

Three-ish minutes later, the song is over. Your endorphins ebb to a dull roar as your heart rate returns to something under triple digits. Somehow, you feel as though surviving the onslaught of barometric pressure is a sort of achievement, as you mentally tick the experience off of the bucket list. The thrill instinctively begs an immediate question; “Can I have some more?”

Yes, Oliver. Yes, you can - and here’s a hairbrush. You’ll need it about three minutes from now.

Keeping the subwoofers from drowning out the voices and instruments in a song can be a massive challenge in ultra-high-power systems. At extreme volume levels, the traditional midrange and tweeter set is completely outclassed, unable to keep up with subs that are delivering volume from tens of thousands of watts or more.

In order to fix this rather quicklyidentified deficiency, a dramatic addition to the stereo often becomes necessary. Custom door, A-pillar, and kick panels are fabricated, then packed with multiple sets of mid and high-range speakers in an attempt to

fill in the system’s otherwise gaping acoustic holes. Only then is every component of the song given a fighting chance of reaching your ears in their intended proportion.

KICKER approaches PA-style tweeters and midrange drivers with two priorities in mind: power handling and efficiency. The ST (aka “Street Series”) 7- and 9-inch speakers are engineered specifically for use in a basshead’s system, using the company’s signature square design. “We used a paper cone because it is extremely efficient, as

well as a treated cloth surround. It’s voiced to allow listeners to hear clean, clear vocals through exceptionally loud bass,” reported Aaron Surratt, KICKER’s New Product Development Manager. “It’s perfect for competitionlevel SPL systems.”

To make the speakers easier to mount in different doors, beefy lowprofile ferrite magnets were used. Unlike traditional door speakers, the recommended power rating skyrockets to 300 watts RMS for the ST series 9-inch midrange – literally double the power handling of KICKER’s highest-rated coaxial door speaker, the CS series 6x9. Both sizes of midrange speakers will come in 4 or 8 ohms, allowing the designer to wire multiple speakers in different configurations.

It’s common knowledge in the audio world that every midrange needs a tweeter to go with it, completing the acoustic picture.
