Lifelong Learning Mozart - His Life and Music, Part II 4 p.m., Assembly Room, with Robert Greenberg April 4 Mozart the Composer – The Early Work Mozart’s father, Leopold, had an influence on his son’s music, but so did Bach. Through his Grand Tour, he also was influenced by the established Viennese symphonies and the Italian style. By the time he visited Paris a second time, his own compositional voice had emerged.
April 11 Paris Several myths surround Mozart’s musical style. Some say it was divine intervention, and others believe he composed effortlessly and automatically. However, he started at such a young age that he had matured in his music by the time he was 20. He left Salzburg for Paris in 1777. It was a disastrous trip, during which his mother died.
April 18 The Flight from Salzburg and Arrival in Vienna Even though the trip to Paris was disastrous, Mozart never stopped wanting to advance his talent. He convinced the Elector of Munich to commission him to create an opera. Shortly after the premier, he married Constanze Weber against his father’s wishes, straining their relationship until his father’s death.
April 25 The Last Years The failure of Cosi Fan Tutte and Don Giovanni put Mozart in a difficult place financially, and his health deteriorated. His last completed piece was “The Magic Flute”. He probably died from rheumatic fever.
