Located in the Star Points Building, the Barley Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art equipment, fitness classes and an indoor pool and spa. Trained staff will help you develop a personalized fitness program.

Tai Chi has been described as meditation in motion, gentle flowing movement performed in a slow, focused manner. Anyone can participate as Tai Chi places minimal stress on muscles and joints. Therefore, it is especially suitable and beneficial for older adults. The benefits of Tai Chi include decreased stress, increased energy, improved flexibility and improved balance.

Rose Gantner Presents: “Red Cross ‘Donut Dollies’” Tuesday, Jan. 3 7

Assembly Room

View an award-winning documentary about the American Red Cross’ young “Donut Dollies,” who volunteered in Vietnam. Their mission was to support the troops by providing a smile, recreational games and a listening ear. Dr. Rose Karlo Gantner, a Masonic Village resident, served two tours in a senior leadership capacity, starting at 22 years old. Later, as a family therapist, she treated many service personnel and their families with PTSD for free. Rose will provide a short introduction to the film and answer any questions.

The Masonic Village Workshop is a non-profit club giving MVS residents the opportunity to use a space for woodworking, crafting and minor repairs. There is a wide variety of hand and power tools available, and a separate finishing room for painting and varnishing. Also, there are enough workstations located in the shop for several people to work at the same time. All are welcome, and we hope to see you there.

RLA Executive Board Meeting

It’s the story of Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant chemist in 1960s America, as she becomes an unlikely cooking show hostess. Elizabeth doesn’t just teach women to cook, she dares them to change the status quo, while at the same time being the role model her daughter deserves. All are welcome.

The Great War, as it was known, was the seminal event of modern history because it unleashed the demons of the 20th century: Communism, Fascism, the Great Depression, World War II and the Cold War. The war killed 30 million people, swept away four empires and sparked revolutions from the western border of France to the Sea of Japan. Yet, precisely how and why it happened is still something of a mystery. An archduke gets murdered in Sarajevo on June 28, and six weeks later, the world is at war. Come hear the story, and understand why, after a century, it still haunts us.

Art Studio

Small (8” x 8” or 5” x 7”) canvas paintings for beginners and those with acrylic experience. Introduction to basic acrylic paintings and how to use the medium to create frame-worthy art on your first try. Canvas will be prepped for painting, so come prepared to get a little paint splatter here or there. Gloves, aprons and all supplies are provided, compliments of the art studio, to all residents.

In their writing, Wagner inspired Strauss, who inspired Elgar, and each composer drew from the dramatic and passionate style of the former. Hear the otherworldly triumph in Wagner’s depiction of the Holy Grail descending, alongside Strauss’ illustration of the visceral transition into death and Elgar’s showcase of the beauty of the Italian seaside. Additionally, continue to follow the piano with this program in Paul Lewis’ debut with Mozart’s elegant Piano Concerto No. 12.
