Fit for Life focuses on balance, strength and flexibility to help increase your strength and stability for a better quality of life.

Senior Yoga

Our instructor, Claudia, will guide you through a gentle half-hour yoga session of seated and standing poses focused on strength, relaxation, balance and flexibility. Open 24 hours, with staff available Mon. - Fri., 6 a.m. - 5 p.m. Pool hours: Mon. - Fri., 8 - 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday & Thursday 9 - 9:45 a.m. Designed to work your entire body, this class will benefit individuals who are looking for an active cardiovascular workout with intervals of strength, flexibility and range-of-motion exercises.

Our wellness staff will warm you up and cool you down with various exercises before and after a short walk. Join neighbors and friends for good music and conversation, all while contributing to a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Wellness Team will guide you through gentle stretches to improve flexibility and balance and increase range of motion, making it easier to perform everyday tasks.

Take a few minutes and stop by our Writers’ Group session. It’s fun and interesting and you may even be enticed to join. We share our favorite stories, write prose based on current themes and have many laughs (which we all need!).

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 - 10:30 a.m. Tai Chi has been described as meditation in motion, gentle flowing movement performed in a slow, focused manner. Anyone can participate, as Tai Chi places minimal stress on muscles and joints. Therefore, it is especially suitable and beneficial for older adults. The benefits of Tai Chi include decreased stress, increased energy, improved flexibility and improved balance.

“Raise a Puppy, Change a Life” Village Workshop Meeting Presented by Carolyn Hrach Tuesday, July 12 and Friends 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7 7 p.m. Assembly Room

Resident Carolyn Hrach is raising a puppy for Canine Companions here on campus. During this presentation, Carolyn will tell her story, how she got involved with Canine Companions and became part of its leadership and why she is now raising her 16th puppy, Charlotte. Carolyn will be joined by Jill Sabo and her puppy, Donny, and Barb Sphar and her hearing dog, Vasco.

The Masonic Village Workshop is a non-profit club giving Masonic Village residents the opportunity to use a space for woodworking, crafting and minor repairs. There is a wide variety of hand and power tools available for use. Also, there is a separate “finishing room” for painting and varnishing. There are enough workstations in the shop for several people to work at the same time. All are welcome and we hope to see you there.

Todd DePastino: “Origins of the Cold War” Part 4 Tuesday, July 19 7 p.m. Assembly Room

Todd DePastino finishes his series on the early Cold War with the remarkable story of the Berlin Airlift. For almost a year, U.S. and British air forces supplied West Berlin with all the food, fuel, medicine and other supplies it needed to survive entirely by air. Most experts said it was impossible. President Harry S. Truman’s military advisors strongly recommended against it. Yet, it succeeded and represented our nation at its very best. But after the airlift, Europe broke in half and the Cold War quickly grew serious and deadly.

Wonders of America’s State Parks For those of us who grew up traveling with our families in the summer throughout the United States, you have probably been to some of these parks. May they bring back fond memories of days gone by.

July 11

The World’s Greatest Churches We will trace the history of building churches, starting in the Holy Land. We will learn a lot about art and history, starting with the definition of the word “church.”

July 4 The Stave Churches of Norway In Norway, we see churches made of wood rather than the usual brick or stone. The wood has been carved and painted with Norwegian decorations and medieval Christian art. The Pilgrimage Church of Sainte-Foy

Along the pilgrimage route in Spain, we see Compostela and the bejeweled reliquary to the martyred St. Foy.

Niagara Falls We start our journey in America’s oldest state park, Niagara Falls, which is home to three falls: Bridal Veil, American Falls and Horseshoe Falls Pennsylvania Wilds: Wilderness Reborn Here we travel through north central Pennsylvania to visit Cherry Spring State Park, which is known for its star gazing, Cooks Forest, Kinzua and many more.

July 18 New York’s Adirondacks: Forever Wild Located in upstate New York, the six million acres boost more than 3,000 lakes and ponds and

5,500 campsites. Here we will learn the history of the “Great Camps” of the rich, from the Gilded Age to Lake Placid. Exploring New Hampshire’s White Mountains We will learn about Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch and Mt. Washington, the highest peak in New England, as well as the demise of the “Old Man of the Mountain.”

July 25 The Yankee Coast: Plymouth to Montauk Traveling for just 90 minutes, you can visit every state park in this lecture. Go from Plymouth Rock to Fort Adams in Rhode Island, ending up at Montauk Point and Camp Hero State Park.

Tour of the Fort Pitt Museum Wednesday, July 27 12:15 p.m. $5

Ever wonder what Pittsburgh was like in its earliest years? Descriptions from historical figures, combined with images and objects from the period, paint a picture of a diverse and constantly changing community. From 1754 to today, Fort Pitt has shaped the course of history as the birthplace of Pittsburgh. This Point Park Museum tells it all and is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institute. Pay Karen $5 by July 20 to reserve your seat.
