ear Praga Journal readers, I am happy to introduce to you another issue of our brand magazine Praga Journal. As always, there was a lot happening at Praga. One of the biggest recent announcements is the introduction of our passenger car Praga R1R, which will be sold in a limited edition of 68 pieces as a tribute to the fact that this year it will have been 68 years since Praga produced its last personal street car. I believe that Praga R1R will certainly be not only a good adrenaline companion for its owner and something to be proud of , but also an excellent investment for the future. Praga cars and karts have achieved multiple racing successes such as Praga’s R1 performance on the FIA-CEZ Championship and Jonathan Thonon’s victory in WSK Night Edition Adria. Our brand new airplane Praga Alfa has already passed more than 50% of certification flights. We have also prepared for you a new version of our website at www.pragaglobal.com, which includes a beautiful new history section full of facts and historical vehicles of our beloved brand. Thank you for your support of our Praga brand!

Praga R1 – Endurance champion of FIA-CEZ Most Photos by Petr Fryba
O
ne-hour lasting race was won by duo Jirásek/Vojtěch with Praga R1 vehicle with almost one minute ahead of their rivals. The drivers did not have to face any difficulties even in the difficult conditions of an unbearable heat which lasted throughout the whole weekend. After the races in Hungary, Austria and Poland, the Central European Zone Championship took place in the Czech city of Most. The tropical weather was a true touchstone for all the drivers but especially for the technicians and the vehicles themselves. Praga Cars Racing was represented by Aleš Jirásek in the sprint race and he was joined by Tomáš Vojtěch in the endurance race.
Praga finished the qualification closely under 1:37 which secured a nice third place in the general classification both for sprint and endurance race. Aleš got stuck with a Porsche of Mira Konopka in the first race, for the Porsche could not handle he curves as well as Praga’s vehicle but was faster in all the straights. Therefore, he did not manage to get to the podium position and finished fourth in the general classification and first in the D5 category. However, the endurance race was more fruitful for Praga’s drivers. Praga finished first in the general classification of MMČR and Central European Zone. “We lost our posi-
tion right after the start but then managed to move forward just like in the case of sprint. And with our brilliantly efficient pit stop, we got to the first place,” commented Jirásek on his performance. After the mandatory pit stop, Jirásek was replaced by Tomáš Vojtěch who even managed to increase the lead over his competitors. “We were lucky – our greatest rivals faced some technical issues which helped us a lot. But still, we did not face any difficulties of this kind in spite of the enormous heat,” described content Vojtěch. “Just like in Poznan, where we managed to win an endurance race several weeks ago, we confirmed in Most that R1 is capable of high velocity in all conditions without any flaws. So it is quite strange that the car is still unjustly underrated, overlooked and mocked by some Czech and Slovak teams. Currently, we are preparing announcement of all the costs for the weekend in Most. I am convinced that some will be surprised when then see the low-costs that are sufficient to run a top-quality vehicle,” told us Jiří Lojan, sales representative of Praga Cars. •

Praga reaches the 6th place in sprint race at Slovakiaring and 3rd place in endurance Photos by Petr Fryba
S
lovakiaring circuit can be called the home ground of Praga Cars Racing team for all the vehicles are produced in a factory only three kilometres away. The track is full of straight parts which leaves only a small space for fights with high-performance GT3 category vehicles. However, Praga managed to reach the podium and therefore earned respect of the great number of spectators that day. Aleš Jirásek reached the 6th place with the time 1:05,8. As was expected, several vehicles got in front of him right after the start but he managed to advance to the front after some interesting struggles. “We are unfortunately unable to manage the starts without losing our initial position. But after that there were some interesting fights which I really enjoyed. As usual, others did not manage to hold their ground and we were able to move forward one lap after the other. But in the end, we could not reach a higher place
than the sixth,” commented Jirásek on the Saturday’s race. Praga reached the fifth place in the qualification. However, the expectations were even higher because R1 vehicle is capable of higher speed than cars of the competition. “Our strongpoint is in slow wearing-out of the tyres which means we can go full throttle almost all the time. In the end, it got us to the third place which is a fine position in a domestic race,” explained Tomáš Vojtěch who started the race. Ultimately, Patrik Němec, well-known Slovakian racer, was the one to enter the Sunday’s sprint. On the Sunday’s morning, he met Praga’s vehicle for the first time and spent several hours of the day acquainting with the car. But - with this new experience his performance in the race was quite decent and he finished on the seventh place in the qualification.
The Central-European Zone continues with the Autumn Race of Masaryk circuit in Brno (18.-20. September 2015) and Praga will surely be there! •

eptember: a month everybody in karting world can’t wait for. KZ world championship in Le Mans from 11 to 13; another world championship (KS) in La Conca, just two weeks later: these are unmissable events, worth an entire season. Something new will show up in this new, big karting gala. Drivers from Praga and OK1 teams will be entirely dressed by OMP Racing, leading company in design and production of accessories and racewear for motorsport. This way, they’ll be joining their colleagues from FK, who wear OMP suits, gloves and shoes since last January. The suit that will debut on the orange and blue chassis is ultra light and absolutely innovative. It’s OMP KS-1, the first ever with printed graphics in order to decrease the weight – that was already

minimal. KS-1 brilliantly passed the strict FIA level 2 homologation tests. The 2015 version of the suit is already being improved in OMP headquarters, for a surprising 2016 version. Le Mans and La Conca will be, thus, the completion of an important and profitable collaboration between Praga and OMP. A collaboration that started at the beginning of 2015. The deal also includes the use of more OMP top products: KS-1 series shoes and gloves, and the specifically karting-dedicated underwear. •

Zeen claws back from disastrous qualifying to take Leopard Pro Final
Z
een's day started with an unlucky problem in the Qualifying, going out on tire pressure that was measured with a (unbeknownst to him) broken tire gauge. Instead of somewhere near 10psi, he was closer to 40psi. A 34th in the qualifications was the result, starting each heat from almost the tail of the field. Zeen drove to a 11–12 result, putting him ninth to start 18 lap final. During the final, points leader Elliott Finlayson took the lead from the outside of row one. Brandon Jarsocrak had won both heat races, coming on late in each one, so his lack of pace was not alarming right away. As the laps wore on, Jarsocrak was not making up any ground and it appeared he had missed on his setup. Finlayson drove to a very comfortable lead,
ahead of Roger Ralston Jr. (Arrow), Derek Dignan (FA Kart), Calvin Stewart (Tony Kart), and Jarsocrak. Soon, Zeen woud enter the scene. By lap four, the Praga USA driver was into the top five, and, in the blink of an eye, was into second on lap six. It was all but over for everyone else at that point, watching him carve through the field at three-tenths quicker. The halfway mark was Zeen's signal to take the point, and after that it was nobody else's race but his. Andrick finished with a 3.278s advantage and captured Leopard Pro Final for Praga.
“Lapping almost a half-second faster than everyone else at one point, you just knew if he could keep his patience, he had the kart to get to the front by the end of the day.” Andrick Zeen has now joined the Praga Factory team and is hard at work preparing for the 2015 CIK FIA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP La Conca, where he will be representing Praga North America. •

Praga Factory team gets ready for the CIK-FIA WORLD Championships
S
eptember is an exciting month for all karting fans and professionals - it’s the month that will decide who the next karting world champion in categories KZ, KZ2, KF and KFJ will be. KZ and KZ2 races will take place from 9-13 September at the famous motorsport area – at the French Le Mans, and the KF and KFJ Championship will take place from 23-27 September in the Italian La Conca. The Praga Factory team is hard at work preparing for these important races and is experiencing a very logistically demanding month. The team scheduled on-location testing before each of these races, headed back to the IPK factory to make final technological preparations, and then are travelling back to the circuit. The full Praga team – including 2 tents, drivers, drivers mechanics, technical and sports managers, telemetrists, extra mechanics – will have to travel multiple extra-long journeys and, basically from the end of August to the end of November (Iame X30, WSK Final Cup, preparation for Rotax Final in Portimao), will have to be on the track or on the road nonstop. The driving distances will be also extreme – for example, the distance between Le Mans and La Conca exceeds 2 100km.
The team lineup is a mixture of experienced Praga drivers and new talents of the Praga factory team. Let’s see how this combination will be successful in the World Championships. We are really excited and we wish good luck to all drivers that will participate in these great races! •

Praga is starting to help karting in Philippines
Member of Praga family since 2015
T
eam Focal – Praga Kart Racing Philippines has been established by a group of karting enthusiasts who wish to bring the karting experience to a new standard in the Philippine Karting scene. Established by Mickey Tang and Ryan Gohu, both karting enthusiasts in their younger years but due to lack of financial support had to stop before they could kart professionally. The ambition of the team is to provide opportunities and professional training for the young and up-coming pilots who wish to pursue karting either as a hobby or professionally. Aside from Mickey and Ryan, the team is also composed of 4 other very important members. Don Batino, Nike Mora, Rhett Holganza, and Jok Holganza. Don and Nike are both recognised champions in the Philippine karting scene and though retired, their enthusiasm to share their experience has made them play a very important role in the team while the brother duo of Rhett and Jok will represent the team in various competitions both National and International
on their new ride, the 2015 Praga Dragon Evo. In addition, an essential key member of the team is Mr. Gilberto Medina. The founder of Medina Motorsports and with more than 30 years experience in kart preparation and tuning, Gilberto will be in charge of our training and clinics from time to time as he flies all the way from Brazil to the Philippines to share his experience and know how with both the team and future students.
Just recently, Team Focal – Praga Philippines had conducted 2 trainings courses in August 2015. Technical/Pilot training for the team. Public Pilot training for those who would like to get into the hobby of karting and as well as those who are interested with Praga chassis. There were 8 attendees who participated in the Public Pilot training with ages ranging from 14 to 40 years old. Many of whom had to fly-in from various locations just to attend the training.

We are looking forward to more of these karting clinics with Medina Motorsports in the near future in the hope of growing the team significantly. Furthermore, we are eagerly planning our next event which will be a Praga track day for the local market to experience the quality and performance of Praga karts. Bambini Racing Team Young Talent Academy
F
ew years ago in Poland showcase categories were introduced, which made it possible for the youngest drivers to compete. Thanks to that it was possible for many young adepts to get into karting. Kids (4years) were able to compete in regular Karting series in Poland. The difference between the young category and the normal one was that kids were not licensed. That led to better preparation for the next (licensed) season for the young talents. Bambini Racing is a team specialised in the youngest drivers. Kids can start their journey with go-karts in a „small” team. Kids
will start the courses in the smallest karts called “Pufo” and can continue their journey to become licensed drivers. This method of fun-training was used with a few of the young drivers to participate in Rotax and Rok series. Bambini participates in two largest karting series in Poland (“Rok Cup Poland” and “Rotax Max Challange Poland”). Part of the drivers using “Praga” chassis started their professional career in the following season and few of them made their first wins! Kacper Rogala is a driver who started his journey with karting at the age of 3½. Since the beginning he was connected with

“Praga”, starting with “Praga Pufo” and “Praga Piccolo”. Last year he received his karting license as the youngest driver in history (at age of 6). Not long after, he was spotted as a “brilliant driver” competing with older drivers (Baby Rok and Micro Max). In this season Kacper is also participating in polish series “Rok” and “Rotax” as well in a regular Polish Cup and Polish Cup Young. He is currently leader of Baby Rok, Master of Poland in Baby Rok Category. Kacper was also placed 3rd in Polish Cup Young. The other team Bambini Racing drivers who debut with their karting license were: -Franek Czapla - 7 years old - 5 position in general category in Master of Poland competition -Piotr Czaja -Janek Przyrowski -Filip Żelechowski -Jonathan Madden There are other non-polish drivers in Bambini Racing. We have two drivers from Finland, Leo and Max Ross. They are representing the team in “Baby Rok”. The youngest of team members is Janek Grabowski, driving in “Pufo” 50ccm league. Bambini Racing is the first Polish team for the younger drivers. We were the first to mention training with the kids and we successfully kept doing it for years. We compete and training at polish tracks as well as abroad (Spain, Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary). •

Właśnie w ten sposób w Bambini Racing swoją przygodę z kartingiem rozpoczęło kilku kierowców, którzy dzisiaj z powodzeniem startują w rywalizacji Rotax i Rok.
Inni kierowcy to: Piotr Czaja, Janek Przyrowski, Filip Żelechowski i Jonathan Madden. W szeregach Bambini Racing jeżdżą również zawodnicy zagraniczni. W kategorii pokazowej Baby Rok team reprezentują Leo i Max Roos z Finlandii. •

In the modern history, the iconic brand Praga has presented itself mainly through its racing activities, but now it is returning to its roots. Successful production of karts, development of the Praga Alfa plane and production of its our own race cars have now been completed with the Praga R1R road vehicle. This year it will have been 68 years since the moment when, based on a decision of the governing Communist Party, Praga ended its production of passenger cars and fully focused on the production of lorries. Therefore, Praga R1R will be produced in a limited edition of 68 cars as a tribute to this significant milestone in the history of the brand. Like the Praga R1 race car, R1R is a single-seater car with a design and functionality of circuit prototypes, but the road vehicle technology has undergone many changes, and the optional equipment can also include an additional passenger seat. The R1R model is powered by a two-litre supercharged engine in power versions
from 330 to 400 hp and torque reaching 530 Nm. Weighing 670 kg, the car has a convincing performance/weight ratio, exceeding 550 hp per tonne. However, the most notable characteristic of the car is its aerodynamics. Its generated downforce at speeds of 200 kmph theoretically enables it to drive upside down, which means in practice that it can reach very high speeds in cornering. It also shares a carbon composite monocoque with race cars, providing security at the level of the latest race vehicles. The basic price of the limited edition car is EUR 198,000. Praga also offers a wide range of optional extras which will be finalized individually, based on clients’ wishes, so each client will receive a truly unique car. PRAGA R1R will certainly be for its owner not only a good adrenaline companion and something to be proud of, but also an excellent investment for the future. Praga has started accepting orders for individual numbered vehicles of this limited series, and the first deliveries of R1R cars are planned for Q1 2016. •

The production of Orbis Avia SM-92T Praga Alfa aircraft project SN03-004 Maiden Flight August 12th 2015
O
n August 12th, a successful first flight of Praga Alfa No. 03-004 completed the first phase of the Praga aircraft production. After several testing hours, the certification procedure has started with the goal of achieving EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) type certificate with a subsequent POA and DOA certification for production in the Czech Republic. The issue of type certificate is expected in 2016 and will be followed by a serial production of the plane. SM-92T Praga Alfa aircraft is substantially modernized compared to its predecessors. For example, the airframe is equipped with a remade tail wheel and landing gear obtained new type of brakes which proved to be far more effective. The aircraft is also endowed with an anti-icing system of leading edges, elevator and rudder. The major change however is the upto-date avionics Glass Cockpit Garmin (compared to previous analogue one). This advanced avionics technology provides a more reliable system with greater dispatch
reliability and ensures simplicity and safety of the cockpit. The aircraft is equipped by Garmin two-display system with 10 inch flat-panel LCDs interchangeable for use as either a primary flight display (PFD) or multi-function display (MFD) as standard flight deck. With the right equipment config-
uration, the system is capable of presenting flight instrumentation, navigation, weather, terrain, traffic and engine data on large-format, high-resolution displays. Safety and reliability are our highest priorities. •

HISTORY
Praga’s production of agricultural vehicles Text by Radim Širl
O
ur last issue was concerned with the history of Praga’s engagement in racing and motorsport; but now, let us emerge in one of company’s probably less known activities: the production of agricultural-related machinery. When the brand PRAGA was born, there were only a few machines included in the process of the initial cultivation of soil; this was done mostly by traditional ploughs towed by working animals and operated by a farmer. However, the previous development of steam machinery in general inspired engineers and scientists to search for better and easier ways to get the ploughing work done. Later, the rise of the petrol engine lead to similar endeavours and first motor ploughs were born. We might say that these represent a transitory state between the traditional and automatized ploughing done by ploughs towed by tractors, which is the form that prevailed in the end and is still in use today. But this very employment of machines in the process of ploughing is also a fact with a strong symbolic significance. With ploughing being one of the toils of human condition, this progress in technology was an important mark promising brighter future and well-being of the
human race. At the same time, the traditional cultivation of soil was considered by some to be very important and therefore this technological involvement in the process was sometimes interpreted as its corruption. Praga began to manufacture motor ploughs in 1913 and continued with it until 1925 with the total of three models produced. Since they proved to be able of a good fieldwork, the number of produced vehicles topped one thousand and rose even more after several factories purchased licenses for these motor ploughs. Nevertheless, the invention of a tractor vehicle brought downfall of all motor ploughs. The first official tractor was constructed in the USA in 1901 but it took some time for it to succeed as the principal machine used for ploughing and soil cultivation. Praga produced small tractor vehicles beginning with Praga AT (1928 – 1942) which was ideal for both road and field surfaces owing to its option of wheels specially designed for ploughing field surfaces. In total, Praga produced over 500 vehicles of this type. Later, the company added two similar models caller Praga BDk (1928 – 1932) and Praga KT (1929 – 1930). These small vehicles represented a progressive element in the farming at that time; but became marginalized with the rise
HISTORY
of larger tractor vehicles which were (and are) – as we all know – used ever since. To sum up, Praga’s involvement in the production of agricultural machinery was not significant in the amount of the produced vehicles (although the numbers are hardly negligible) but remains extremely important in the historical context of modernization and mechanization of an important sphere of human activities. And we might add that it also illustrates the large range of business activities of the company in the first half of the 20th century. •
