December: Pat Cairns ART AT THE LIBRARY
September: Carol Timson BallPeggy Turk
Whether figurative or abstract, her paintings demonstrate strong design, bold contrasts, and a sense of drama.
Calling it “Dual Perspectives,” the two artists will paint the approximate same scene in two different mediums.
October: Dave Pittaway
Friday, October 24 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 pm.
September: Matthew Pomerico
November: Mallory Caloc
Her paintings are mixed media—ink, watercolor, and acrylic—on clay board, and her abstract wall sculptures use polyurethane foam and latex caulk.
Woodcarver Matthew Pomerico describes himself as more of a craftsman than an artist, but viewing his fine woodcarvings proves he is definitely both. His wooden toys, Christmas ornaments, and cowboy scenes make one-of-a-kind gifts. Having carved for many years, Pomerico’s distinct carving style is highly imaginative and creative.

Infants, six to twelve months, learn to roll over from a face down position in the water onto their backs to relax, breathe. Babies will learn to roll and float fully clothed in case of an accidental fall into water. Learning these skills takes approximately 12 to 20 lessons. Lessons are one-on-one, 3 days a week, scheduled between 7:00 and 9:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays. Parent participation may be required. Reusable swim diaper if appropriate.
Results in weeks not years! Toddlers and older children are taught the swim-float-swim-sequence. They learn to swim—full immersion and independently—and when exhausted during their swim, learn to flip onto their back, breathe, relax, regain strength, and continue to swim to safety. Children will learn to swim fully clothed in case of an accidental fall into water. Survival swimming skills serve as the foundation for learning correct stroke technique, while protecting your child from aquatic accidents. This program evolves from survival skills to recreational swimming with beginning strokes within a short time period and allows your child and you to enjoy the water safely. Children take approximately 20 to 32 lessons to acquire and consistently demonstrate these skills. Lessons are one-on-one, 3 days a week, scheduled between 7:00 and 9:15 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays. Reusable swim diaper may be required. Since lessons are individualized, each child progresses at his or her own pace. Duration of lessons depends on age, temperament, and coordination. Should a child complete a program in less time, a credit towards maintenance classes will be issued. Graduates may sign up for Fundays.

September features the work of Carol Timson Ball and Peggy Turk. Calling it “Dual Perspectives,” the two artists will paint the approximate same scene in two different mediums. Using oils and pastels, the en plein air paintings will depict Central Coast vistas, including ocean and inland.
Mallory Caloca, a recent Cal Poly graduate with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, enjoys exploring a hybrid of imagined “micro world” environments and is influenced by Cubist techniques. Her paintings are mixed media—ink, watercolor, and acrylic—on clay board, and her abstract wall sculptures use polyurethane foam and latex caulk.

MATTHEW POMERICO Woodcarver Matthew Pomerico describes himself as more of a craftsman than an artist, but viewing his fine woodcarvings proves he is definitely both. His wooden toys, Christmas ornaments, and cowboy scenes make one-of-a-kind gifts. Having carved for many years, Pomerico’s distinct carving style is highly imaginative and creative.

Foundation’s Giving Tree program. Located near the Circulation Desk, the Giving Tree is covered with book “ornaments” that represent new titles the Library would like to purchase. Donors choose an ornament from the tree, and with their $25 donation, the book is purchased and a special donation label is placed in the book naming the person to whom the book will be dedicated. All donations are fully tax deductible and support the Paso Robles City Library. The Giving Tree will be available November 17 - December 31. The Paso Robles Library Foundation Presents an Opportunity for Giving Back to the Community
by E. Lockhart Explores the relationships formed between four “liars”—Cadence, her cousins Johnny and Mirren, and outsider Gat—over the course of several summers spent on Beechwood Island with their families. Secrets and lies run throughout this tale as Cadence, suffering from migraines and memory loss, tries to piece together what happened during the accident in “summer 15.”
CAN YOUR FINES
November: Cooked by Michael Pollan The perfect book to help prepare readers for their Thanksgiving feast as Michael Pollan explores what effects the four classical elements— fire, water, air and earth—have on the food we eat. By apprenticing himself to several master chefs, Pollan learns how to grill with fire, cook with liquid, bake bread, and use fermentation to make cheese and beer.
THE GIVING TREE Each year, community members give a gift of a special book honoring a book-loving family member or friend through the Library
In the spirit of the holidays, the Paso Robles City Library is again offering patrons an opportunity to serve their community and reduce their overdue fines at the same time.

Combining her lifelong love of cooking, with her new-found passion for creating delicious, easy-to-make recipes, she developed an array of great-tasting recipes. Her doctor sampled her creations and encouraged her to publish a cookbook to assist other patients who were having a hard time adjusting to the changes required in their diet. Even though Diane was surprised by the suggestion, she nonetheless decided to follow her doctor’s advice and the result was a user-friendly cookbook called THE FREE COOKBOOK! Diane hopes that anyone with a glutenintolerance, or those who want to cut artificial sweeteners and sugar out of their diet, will find her recipes tasting like wonderfully-familiar comfort foods that

Kendo Literally called “the Way of the Sword,” this is the modern sport of Japanese fencing based on traditional Kenjutsu “sword fighting.” See Sports in Youth Section. Pickleball
Pickleball is a racquet sport that has been heralded as “the fastest growing sport in the country.” It is like tennis— but different. Like racquet ball—but different. The ball is like a whiffle ball— but different. The court is like tennis—but smaller. We use a paddle—but this is not paddle tennis. The net is 2” shorter than a tennis net. Pickleball is fun, very social, and you get an excellent workout with less stress on the joints than the game of tennis. The instructor, Jack Hodges, an avid tennis player and tennis instructor, discovered the advantages of Pickleball after retiring from coaching baseball. Jack has equipment for you to use so you can try the sport—so drop in anytime. Contact Jack at 1-949-5472251 for details or go to his website for information, www.pickleballpasorobles. shutterfly.com. Location: Instructor: Age: Days: Time: Sessions: Fee:

We have a commingled, or single stream, recycling system. We allow customers to recycle without sorting. This program is easy, efficient, and maximizes materials accepted for recycling. The recyclables are transported to a material recovery facility (MRF) where they are sorted into highquality feedstock streams.
INSTRUCTIONS • All recyclables must be placed in the container with the lid completely closed. • Only use the recycling container provided by us. • No Hazardous Materials such as oil, pesticides, paint or cleaners. No putrescible waste like food scraps, diapers, etc.
CONTAMINATION can make any recyclable material ineligible for recycling. Some materials, like metals, can be recycled even with high levels of contamination. Other materials, like polystyrene, are barely recyclable to begin with, and can be rendered completely ineligible for recycling even with the slightest trace of contamination.
