The Disclosure Series It was the summer of 2002. I had had a rough time working at a bakery for 2 weeks and then with my girlfriend at the time, when we broke up for a week or so. I went home for the last couple of weeks of the holiday when my friend gave me this CD. I went back to Toronto with a place to live to search for.
I remember walking along Bloor St., specifically between Spadina and Bathurst Streets with this CD playing in my Philips CD player with its blue translucent cover. The title track never did much for me. It was 3,This is the place, that caught my attention before I started loving pretty much every song on the CD. 6, The Zephyr song, came next to my attention, followed by the last track, 16, Venice Queen. Today my favorite song on this album is 14, Minor thing, along with 4, Dosed, 7, Can’t stop, and 12, Tear. I remember thinking how long the intro is to Venice Queen; how good the drums are at the start of Minor thing. I remember walking worried, not knowing where I’ll be living. My roommate‐to‐be was staying with me at a short‐term hotel. He wasn’t helping me find a place because he was already busy with the new school‐year. My girlfriend wasn’t helping either because she was busy moving into her own place (which I helped her paint) among her many other activities. I ended up finding a basement apartment on the same street as my girlfriend’s, north of Bloor St. (whereas she was just south of it). We stayed together for that fall, after which I broke up with her in January.
