EDITOR’S NOTE

So Long Sweet Summer Christopher Invidiata Editor

While summer is supposed to be one of the more relaxing times of the year, it is more often than not the busiest. This was especially true for the real estate market over the past few months. Lower interest rates have kept the market buzzing all summer long and we’re looking forward to this trend carrying over into the fall and winter months as well. Burlington and Oakville have always been close to my heart, and watching these communities grow and blossom into what they are today has been both a pleasure and a privilege. Invidiata Home &

Lifestyle is my way of sharing all that these great cities have to offer. Inside these pages you will find properties from both of these areas, but more importantly you’ll learn about great local businesses and community events that bring the residents within them together. I want to thank all of our partners for being a part of this publication. We look forward to working together to strengthen it in the future. Sincerely,

Christopher Invidiata Team Leader, Sales Representative, Principal Realtor

For this reason Dr. Daniel approaches each child and family with tailored home care plans and in-office preventive care, including cleanings, check-ups and fluoride, as well as in-office procedures with the options of sedation or anesthesia. “By providing a dental routine and positive dental association at a young age we partner with parents and children to build the foundation for a lifetime of healthy teeth and smiles,” expressed Dr. Daniel. Burlington Pediatric Dentistry’s mission is to provide expert care for children in a relaxing and reassuring environment. They take

As adults, going to the dentist for routine check-ups is a critical part of our overall health care, and for kids this rule of thumb is the same. It may come as a surprise to some, but the most common disease in children is dental caries, also known as cavities. Early childhood dental caries is more common than asthma; in North America the infectious disease will affect more than 40% of children by the age of six. That’s why Dr. Daniel encourages “First tooth, First visit,” an initiative led by the Canadian Dental Association. He says early examination is important, as dental issues are largely

the time for caring, comforting, and courteous engagement at every step – never rushing decisions and always communicating with kindness. “We hear from the families we care for that these values are present at every visit,” says Dr. Daniel. The office itself offers a playground-like feel to help make the child’s experience even more memorable. The environment was designed solely with children in mind. The large open space features bright and fun colours, televisions over every chair with headphones, a waiting room with a tree house, game tablets, a reading centre and a two-sided fish tank. Dr. Daniel explains that while his work is serious and vital, it is also extremely rewarding: “I love helping children have healthy smiles every day and that I get to smile alongside them.”

BRONTE

HARBOUR Oakville’s Hidden Historical Gem By Linda Leatherdale, VP Cambria Canada In our booming real estate world where the golden rule is “location, location, location”, it’s mind blowing there are still some best kept secrets. One of the best kept secrets is beautiful Bronte Harbour – a historic fishing village that boasts one of the most pristine harbours on Lake Ontario. Ironically, Bronte Harbour is part of a desirable area coined by real estate guru Christopher Invidiata as “Oakville’s Golden Coast” where million-dollar-plus mansions are being snapped up by buyers, both domestic and offshore, and where average prices shot up 14% since last year. Yet, up until now, Bronte was a sleepy village snubbed by its richer East Oakville neighbours as the wrong side of the tracks. Now that tide is changing.

ONE EIGHT YEAR OLD’S MISSION TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. By Erica Nelson The mind of a child is truly remarkable. They are not weighed down by the pressures of adulthood or imposed ideas of proper social conduct. They are free to explore and wander freely at will, and more often than not they stumble on things that continue to impress and surprise even the most intelligent adults. One of the greatest issues facing children today is bullying. It is a worldwide problem that individuals battle daily, and just recently a young girl from Burlington, ON decided it was her turn to try and help put an end to it. Eight-year-old Devon wants to help make a difference, which is why she started

HELP US END THE WAIT ROCK Reach Out Centre for Kids has been providing mental health services since 1974. In 2014, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services chose ROCK to be the lead agency for the child and youth mental health sector in the Region of Halton. Our mission is to work together to promote and achieve optimal mental health in kids and families.

DID YOU KNOW… 1. In Canada, only 1 in 5 children who require mental health care services actually receives them? 2. It is estimated that 10-20 per cent of Canadian youth are affected by a mental illness or disorder? 3. Canada’s youth suicide rate is the third highest in the industrialized world? 4. A total of 3.2 million children between the ages of 12-19 in Canada are at risk for developing depression? The current wait time for mental health care services in Canada is well over a year and there are over 800 children in the Halton Region right now waiting for help from ROCK. These very real statistics will never change if we are not able to help children and families in need. Help us end the wait.

“WE CANNOT ESCAPE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF TOMORROW BY EVADING IT TODAY.” If you would like to donate to our cause and help us end the wait, please visit rockonline.ca
