EDITOR With the leaves beginning to change colour, we find ourselves at the end of another productive year. As we usher in the colder weather I count my blessings to live and work in Oakville, my favourite town in the world. This year, the Invidiata Team underwent a significant change when we opened the doors to our new office space. We made the move to grow and be able to better serve our clients and the town of Oakville. We are thrilled to work and live in this beautiful town and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with our loyal and treasured clients. We feel strongly that Oakville, and the surrounding GTA markets, will push through the uncertainty of the 2018 market and 2019 will bring increased confidence in all aspects of buying and selling real estate. The GTA real estate market has seen its share of ups and downs in 2018 with the increase in interest rates and the implementation of the mortgage stress test; however, the year is predicted to end on a strong note. According to TREB reports, September 2018 home sales in the GTA rose by a notable 1.9% from September 2017 with the average cost of a detached home in Oakville coming in between $1.1M-$1.2M. TREB reports an optimistic start to 2019 in
the GTA as the market recovers from the uncertainty of the Canada-US trade negotiations. With the trade deal in place, and employment in the GTA reported to be strong, the real estate market is predicted to experience growth in 2019. Recent inventory levels have been tighter than previous years resulting in detached, townhomes and condos selling in fewer days year-over-year. TREB reports a property would stay on the market on average 2 days less, from 18 days to 16 days, year over year. These small changes are indicators that home buyers and sellers are remaining confident in their real estate purchases. This winter season as holiday celebrations are taking place, take the time to enjoy your family, your friends and this wonderful city we call home. Mercedes-Benz made a very wise decision to squeeze more life out of its top-end, luxury brand Maybach which until then had been reserved for its stretch wheelbase limo. I bet nobody imagined this would be next.
At a secret location far from automotive paparazzi, deep in the wilderness of Botswana, we were given a rare chance to experience how the uber rich might Safari if they so choose. Flying into a private airstrip at the lavish Madikwe Safari Lodge, it gave us a chance to walk in the shoes of a typical Maybach owner for a day and experience an African Safari in the finest way possible. The Maybach G 650 Landaulet is a vehicle which not only ticks all the typical off-roading boxes but adds even more exclusivity than the regular top-end AMG Mercedes G-Class SUV as only 99 will be made. This is extreme levels of luxury and, thanks to its twinturbocharged, 6-litre, V12 AMG engine, it has performance to match.
ORIGINS The name Landaulet pre-dates the car and originates from the era of horse-drawn carriages, referring to a cabin which has a folding roof for the rear and a fixed roof for the driver. The driver would sit up front with a roof over his head while the wealthy passengers or royalty rode in an open carriage and this practice has continued as an exclusive option reserved only for the super elite ever since. Arguably, the most famous Landaulets have come from Mercedes-Benz with the 1964 600 Pullman being the most recognizable of the modern era. Even as recently as 2008, Maybach resurrected the concept as a oneoff limousine which made its world debut at the Dubai International Motor Show.

The G 650 however is a very different animal, so it was fitting that we used it to go find some African wildlife knowing that if we inadvertently disturbed a giant rhino or lion, we’d have the 4x4 capability to get away, as well as 630bhp and 1000Nm of torque to do it sharply. Of course there was no need as the Madikwe Park is well secured with professional rangers who guided us through and showed us the best that Africa has to offer.
BUSINESS CLASS ACCOMMODATION Built for four people, the rear of the G 650 is strictly for two only with individual leather seats that recline almost to a full flatbed like an airline business class seat, except this one’s in the sun when you have the roof folded back. With a nod from our guide in the driver’s seat, we spotted giraffes in the distance and just like one of the long-necked animals, I stood tall, through the roof, peering out ahead with binoculars to see for myself. Later, we heard from our guides that the King of the Jungle, a male lion, was resting under a small tree, so we gingerly headed off at that park’s 35kmh speed limit in search. A few small birds high in a tree above us alerted us to its position and we idled in and switched off to watch in silence. The King of the Jungle was not perturbed by the King of the Road and with an almost silent whir from the powered seats, I sat upright, lowered the tinted window and made eye contact with this most beautiful creature. All was well in our worlds, both of us basking in the morning sun, swatting the occasional fly, he

The G 650 however is a very different animal under his tree with full belly and me in my leather-cossetted mobile, V12-powered security cage with a chilled bottle of bubbly in its holder and a couple of solid silver goblets to swig from. With almost half a metre of ground clearance, ample space and comfort for four, the G 650 Landaulet is a unique combination of luxurious chauffeured saloon and heavy-duty off-roader.

Should we have needed privacy from the driver, an electrically-operated glass partition separates the rear compartment from the driver’s section and the glass can be changed from transparent to opaque at the press of a button.
DIMENSIONS Its wheelbase has been stretched by 578mm giving it an overall length of 5345mm with a height of 2235mm. To put that into layman’s terms, it means I needed to use the folding footstep, which dropped down from the fixed footstep that sits below the entrance to the door. Yes, it’s that tall. The rear interior is a complete lift from the Mercedes-Maybach S600L with similar legroom and two identical powered, multi-adjustable seats. To afford the rear passengers the optimum in comfort, it has a large business console with thermal cup holders between the seats which allow beverages to be cooled or heated over time. The controls for opening or closing the glass partition are integrated behind the cup holders and, similar to an aircraft seat, the centre console comes with two tables which can be folded in or out with one hand. The tables have leather inserts that provide a comfortable writing surface and are big enough for tablets and notebook computers. 28 | WINTER 2018/2019

Fortunately one has a full belly and some shade to sleep off lunch Arguably the best part of the seats however is the massaging function which uses inflatable air chambers to offer nine types of massage, though my tip is to go for the hot stone massage. Naturally the two, 10-inch, high-resolution screens work individually for each occupant to control the entertainment, navigation, massage functions and climate control for each side. As you’d expect, the G 650 Landaulet’s off-roading credentials are unquestioned with the portal axles providing 450mm
of ground clearance similar to the AMG G63 6x6 and G500 4x42 and it sits on 325/55 R-22 alloy wheels. Typical of the G-Series, the 650 uses three different locks which can be engaged on the move as well as low range. If for some reason the off-roading side of the Landaulet doesn’t appeal, the G 650’s AMG heart still gets the pulse running as it carries its mass to 100kmh in 5.6 seconds and on to a governed top speed of 230kmh. But with just 99 units to be made in total at $900,000 (USD) each, it is sure to be the status of an appreciating asset over time. THEINVIDIATACOLLECTION.COM

Style WITH PURPOSE
Rutnaish Prihar has a unique ability when it comes to the art of design. She developed her skills while working on personal projects prior to taking the leap into the field full time. Rutnaish first pursued a robust and successful career in accounting before taking time off to have her children. As her family grew, they built three homes of their own. Each time, Rutnaish would work with the architects to redesign personal details that were important to the functionality and comfort of her family’s lifestyle needs. Through this hands on process, she acquired an incredible ability to know how small changes would increase functionality and efficiencies in a home. When it was time for her to go back to work, she decided to follow her passion, thus beginning her new career as a designer. Over the past couple of years, she has continued to work with architects to develop her unique talents for home design. She realized that she has the ability to look at the blueprint of a home and visualize how design alterations would enhance the living space. The differentiating factor, when it comes to Rutnaish’s incredible design eye, is the ability to see what would work best for both design and practicality purposes. She is undeniably talented in making unused space usable, beautiful and functional. Working with architects and home builders, she creates oneof-a-kind living spaces for her clients. Her process is seemingly simple – she will take the drawings from the architect, and live in them. She will surround herself with the virtual walls of a new construction to absorb and visualize the details of the home. She will then infuse the personality of her client into the design to ensure maximum utility and flow. She comments, “A home should be beautiful and luxurious, yet functional and livable.” She is the master at achieving both. Her preference is to work on the whole home from the drawing stage to completion. It is more efficient and cost effective to alter interior design before the walls are built and, therefore, her maximum impact to a project is to be part of the process from the very beginning. The design flaws she reworks will impact the lives of the homeowners, including rooms and features that are important for day-to-day living. Creating custom and functional designs is what makes Rutnaish’s heart sing. Her passion is building modern homes as she feels there is a need for the sleek and clean look of a modern design.
