Finding the Right Location Begin by setting the wedding date, size, budget and style. Once these particulars have been established your next major decision will be the wedding and reception location. If you already have a place in mind contact the facility manager immediately to confirm the availability of the date youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve selected and to schedule an appointment for you and your fiancĂŠ to view the site. Other less obvious options are country inns, mountain resorts, historic homes or mansions, city parks, college or university facilities, art galleries, and museums. Each location offers its own unique style and ambiance.

Types of Facilities Many locations provide the majority of services you will need for your reception: catering, beverages, tables, chairs, tableware, linens and serving staff, making them a very convenient option. They normally charge on a per person basis, and have a minimum guest requirement. Such locations include hotels, private clubs and restaurants.

Other locations offer the use of the facility only, providing no other services. You supply nearly everything yourself, paying a flat fee for the use of the site. The nice thing about off-site locations is the freedom to do everything your way. Increasingly popular for outdoor receptions is the use of party tents. They offer the ideal solution for couples who want to hold their celebration in a natural setting but would prefer not to have their guests wilting under a hot sun or melting under a drizzle. Amenities range from beautiful archways and parquet floors to air conditioning and emergency generators. In your search for the ideal site, keep in mind the convenience and comfort of your guests. The traveling distance from the ceremony to reception should not be much longer than half an hour by car. Depending on the season in which you

Space Issues While it may seem obvious to say so, the venue you choose for your wedding must have enough space to accommodate all your guests. There should be enough room in the dining area to allow for comfortably arranged seating and a reasonable view of the newlyweds for everyone. There should also be enough space between tables for you to move around the room and mingle with your guests. The facility coordinator will know the maximum number of people who can fit in the space, as well as the best table arrangements.

Privacy & Entertainment Issues If your venue does multiple events, find out if there are other bookings at the same time or on the same day as yours. If so, ensure that there will be adequate privacy and separation for your party. There should also be ample time in between events to allow your caterer or other service people to set up or break down your party. Whether you intend to have a DJ or a band, enquire about any possible restrictions regarding the type, volume or duration of music. Be sure to confirm that there is an adequate power supply for speakers, mixers and amplifiers, or good acoustics for string and wind instruments. First Impressions Your guests will get their first impression of your reception as they enter the building. But first they have to be able to find it. Clear signage indicating the way to the reception or cocktail area is a must. Whether your party starts with cocktails and hors dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;oeuvres outside on the terrace, then moves indoors later on for the meal and dancing, or the entire celebration is held in one room, make sure there is adequate space to receive everyone and to serve your guests while they await your arrival. Veneers are a way to correct crooked, stained or otherwise unsightly teeth. A veneer is a little shell of porcelain that bonds to the front of the tooth. Sometimes simple bonding of a composite tooth-colored filling material can accomplish a limited task. In any case, the smile is improved, and people can change their whole demeanor if they are no longer afraid to smile. Different modifications to porcelain have overcome problems with strength, abrasiveness, accuracy, appearance, etc. Dentists are now successfully restoring

broken-down teeth with all-porcelain crowns and onlays that look indistinguishable from natural teeth and have great longevity. All-porcelain restorations seem to have “cemented” their place in the dentist’s repertoire. One way to brighten your smile inexpensively is to bleach. Dentists can prepare a custom bleach tray with a higher concentration of the active ingredient. Finally “in-office bleaching” can be performed by the dentist. This requires isolation of the teeth with a thin sheet of rubber and a high concentration of the peroxide. Often the teeth are sensitive to temperature afterward and the cost is significantly higher. If you have less time than this, that’s fine too, but starting as early as possible will make the whole experience less stressful and pressured. Also, in the unlikely event that a problem arises, you will have more time to solve it. Another tip about when to shop: bridal salons are busiest from January through April, and Saturday is their busiest day. If it’s possible for you to shop on a weekday, you’ll probably find it to be a more leisurely, relaxing experience. Be sure to make an appointment, if required, to ensure one-on-one service while you’re there. Two: Expect great service. Most negative experiences revolve around service. If you’re not happy with the service you’re getting, move on. Also, your idea of great service may be quite different from another bride’s idea. Two brides-to-be had very different reactions to the same bridal salon: one loved the attentive, very involved service, and the other felt it was too confining and restrictive. So it’s not always about good versus bad service, but also about the type of service with which YOU are most comfortable. Three: Remain open-minded. In one survey, 40% of brides indicated that they ended up with a dress style completely different than what they had planned on buying. It is so important to try on a variety of dress styles, to see how they look on your body type, and to see how you feel in each of them. And don’t forget about accessories and alterations! These two items can add up to a big part of your wedding attire budget. Five: Bring one or two supportive people with you. A large group of differing opinions can be overwhelming, so it’s best to keep the entourage to a minimum. On the other hand, having a couple supportive, helpful people with you can provide valuable feedback and suggestions. Do whatever works for you, and what feels most comfortable. Six: Get every detail in writing. Don’t leave the salon without a piece of paper that outlines every single detail, including the color, size, and style ordered, the deposit paid, and the estimated date of arrival. Two to three weeks after you order your dress, call the salon and verify that your dress was ordered, and that the estimated date of arrival has not changed. The bottom line is, if you’re having a stressful time shopping for your wedding dress, stop what you’re currently doing and make changes: visit a different salon, try a different time of the week, or bring different people with you. Or, just take a breather from shopping for a while! And remember, finding your dress is like finding your soul mate: sometimes they reveal themselves to us quickly and easily, sometimes they are more challenging to find, but we always find them in the end, and it’s always worth the wait.

Darker colors have a slimming effect. Ties, cummerbunds or suspenders that are the same color as the bridesmaid's dresses will bring the entire wedding party together. If the men in the wedding party are identically dressed, you may wish to set the groom apart. A slightly different boutonniere or neckwear accomplishes this effectively. Consult a menswear professional for ideas and to discuss what is available and most appropriate. Tuxedos should be reserved three months in advance and all measurements taken at least

three weeks prior to the wedding. Out of town groomsmen can have their measurements taken at a menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s formal wear store near them and forwarded to the formal wear store through whom you have reserved your tuxedos. Weddings on a budget DON’T BREAK THE BANK

If planning a wedding is a challenge, paying for it can be an even greater one. But don’t despair, here are some insider secrets to help you save money when you choose a full-service hotel as your reception site.

Menu Selection In comparison to a dinner buffet, heavy hors d’oeuvres or a station reception, a sit-down meal is frequently the most economical choice. Though many new brides assume that a hors d’oeuvres cocktail party will be the least expensive option, often the exact opposite is true. To host a hors d’oeuvres party at mealtime, you should provide 14 to 16 hors d’oeuvres per person. When all of the items are tallied, the total per person cost can be equal to or higher than a plated or buffet meal.

Time of Day Many hotels book receptions from noon to 5:00 p.m. or from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, and they may charge extra to host a reception that overlaps both time segments. To save money, choose one of these times. Better yet, choose the earlier time slot. Because evening functions tend to be easily booked, choosing the earlier time may give you negotiating power with the hotel, especially if their list price is the same for both time frames.

Time of Year The date you choose for your wedding may significantly affect reception cost. Peak months are April, May, June, September, October and November. Saturday evenings in December are generally reserved for holiday parties. Most hotels will refuse to negotiate prices during these prime months, and many

require a minimum budget be met in order to reserve the space. At other times of the year, however, hoteliers are usually more than willing to haggle.

Beverage/Bar The largest contributing factor to your overall reception budget is the type of bar you host. Generally, if you are considering hosting a bar for your guests for the full reception (four to five hours), the price can equal or even exceed the meal cost. Many times a hotel will offer an “open bar” package price. These prices are based on a fixed per person cost per hour regardless of the amount consumed. The advantage of the open bar is having a fixed cost to factor into your budget. Do not assume that you will save money by serving only beer, wine and soda. Many people will drink more beer and wine than mixed drinks. If you need to save money on your open bar, close the bar during dinner, and reopen after the meal. This way you will have bar coverage when it’s needed most.
