Let’s Create

Your Moment

by Kelsey Whetten of Simply Larue Floral

When I get asked what I do for a living and I respond with wedding florist, you can imagine the amount of interesting responses I get. I know that my job is out of the box and not one you hear all the time, so I am used to getting asked lots of questions. I’ll chat your ear off about how I am the luckiest girl in the world to be doing what I love every single day. The question I have noticed I get asked the most is “What made you want to do that?” I usually respond with the basic answer, it’s my love for weddings, creating beautiful spaces or I simply love to work with pretty flowers. Though all those things are true, as I started to say these answers repeatedly, I realized that wasn’t the real reason I do this. I started to ask myself, “what is the real reason I want to be a wedding florist? As I pondered, these thoughts were going through my mind. What is your passion behind this job? If you think about it, my job doesn’t save lives, no one will die without flowers at

26 UTAH VALLEY WEDDINGS // SUMMER 2022

their wedding, it isn’t a big social movement, I’m not changing anyone’s lives in a big way, and if you think about it literally it is unnecessary for your basic life needs. So why am I passionate about it, why does this matter to me? Why have I pulled countless all-nighters to get every arrangement for a wedding perfect? What is my why behind hustling so hard for every client that I work with? I sat there for a while trying to dig deep with myself to figure out my why. I concluded an idea that I now shape my whole business around. I create moments. This whole life we live is trillions of moments, one leading to another. We have fun moments, frustrated moments, happy moments, angry moments, big moments, intimate moments, and all kinds of moments that make up this beautiful thing we call life. For me, and most likely many others, I believe your wedding day has some of the happiest moments of your life. My job as a florist is to create the moment you have been dreaming about and will never forget.

This thought stemmed because of some weddings I did very early on and sadly the client wasn’t happy with end results on some aspects. Its hard to admit but no one is perfect and we all make mistakes, especially in business. Along with feeling terrible about not delivering what they wanted, I tried to figure out where I went wrong and how I could do better for my future clients. I found that my thought process behind how I created designs for my clients was all wrong. With new clients we always have a consultation to begin and go over all their inspiration pictures so I can get a visual of what they are looking for. When I was starting out with this business, I would see client’s inspiration pictures and I would think to myself “oh that’s not cute at all, I’ll take pieces of that and make it better!” Which “better” was my interpretation of what it should be, I wasn’t making this for them anymore by thinking this way. The thing about beauty is that it truly is in the eye of the beholder. I wasn’t doing my job by turning the client’s vision into mine, my purpose as the florist is to find out their style and vision so that I can tell their story.

“Let’s create your moment”

is now the slogan of my company and I have implemented things into my process with clients to understand their story and vision better so I can provide magical moments on their big day. Being a florist is more than playing with pretty flowers all day or making beautiful spaces. I consider myself in the business of making unforgettable moments for others, and that is why this business is special to me.

Make A

Stellar Impression by Karely Brinton

Your wedding invitation is the one piece of your wedding that every guest is guaranteed to see and keep.

Receiving a beautiful invitation creates anticipation and excitement for your special day, and is the perfect way to ensure your invited guest’s attendance. The wedding invitation is the very first impression your guests will have about your wedding. It will set the tone of your event and help your guests to understand what the expectations are when it comes to their attire and behavior. First impressions are important and lasting, and your wedding invitations will set the stage for your guests to enjoy and share blissful memories of your special day! A complete wedding invitation suite includes: • Outer Envelope (to protect the suite) • Inner Envelope (A pristine inner envelope makes a great impression and is the best way to include an envelope liner, to avoid tearing when opening.) • Belly Band - beautifully holds all the cards together and ensures that no important details are left behind inside the envelope. • Main Invitation Card • Reception/Ceremony Details Card • Directions/Map Card • RSVP Card + Self Addressed Envelope • Hotel Accommodations Card • Details: Ribbon, Seals, Stamps, Illustrations, Photos, etc.

Making your wedding invitation informative is not something to be overlooked. It is vital that information such as location, times and other significant details are incorporated. Guests may be traveling long distances and may need to plan their trip in advance. Other details you may want to include that will ensure a stress free day for your guests might include measures taken to support diet preferences, disability facilities, or other factors that may need to be considered in advance. The wedding invitation is not the only stationery you will need. Other items you may consider are: Before the wedding: • Bridal Shower Invitation • Bridal Shower Thank-You Cards • Bachelor/Bachelorette Party Invitation • Rehearsal Dinner Invitation • Welcome Dinner Invitation At the wedding: • Ceremony Program • Escort Cards • Place Cards • Table Number Cards • Menu Cards • Menu Cards • Signage (Instructional or decorative)

After the wedding: • Thank You Cards Your wedding invitation is the one piece of your wedding that every guest is guaranteed to see and keep. Allow your wedding stationery to contribute to the beauty and success of your special day!

GREENHOLLOW CATERING

JEN ANDERSON PHOTOGRAPHY

THE CHOCOLATE; A DESSERT CAFE

I’D LIKE A SPECIFIC DISH SERVED AT MY WEDDING. CAN I ASK MY CATERER TO INCLUDE IT, EVEN IF IT ISN’T ON THEIR MENU?

WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

CAN I HAVE MY CAKE BE MORE THAN ONE FLAVOR?

Of course you can; a good caterer’s greatest joy is serving delicious food to their customers’ satisfaction. It only makes it better if we can serve you a dish that evokes warm memories of family traditions, or perhaps thoughts of a loved-one on a day as meaningful as your wedding. Schedule a planning session with your caterer to go over details regarding your dish, and if it’s one they’re unfamiliar with, they may want to test recipes ahead of time to ensure it’s perfect.

should choose a photographer based on their style and ability to capture love and connection. I also believe it is very important to ask a potential photographer to view a complete gallery of a wedding. By doing so, you can see how that photographer captures a wedding day from start to love how they shoot an engagement and that they will “tell” you story exactly the way you have always dreamed for your wedding day!

Most bakers these days can do a different

do. I love to have the bride and groom look at can decide how they want to mix and match are white, but lately I am seeing a trend in mixing that up as well and using different

wedding colors, textures and more! Be creative and do what you both love the most.

WHITE SHANTY VENUE

HOW DO I KNOW HOW MUCH TIME TO BOOK AT MY VENUE? Just as varied as the colors, theme and feel of your day is your timeline and how you want the day to go from the moment you get out of bed until your sendoff. When planning your day it is best to allocate time for everything from arrival for hair/makeup to wedding party photos and any special dances. If you are asking quests to travel for a ceremony and/or reception make sure to allow enough time for those traveling from far distances to enjoy the celebration without feeling too rushed.

FRINGE WITH BENEFITS

PRITCHETT BRIDAL

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO BETTER PREPARE MY SKIN FOR MY WEDDING DAY MAKEUP APPLICATION?”

WHEN SHOULD I START LOOKING FOR MY WEDDING DRESS?

So much of the health of our skin health. Meet with an esthetician and discuss your skin concerns and create a regimen that you can do leading up to your wedding day. If you have a new skin cream or retinoid, it would be best to test this out months before the big day to avoid any reaction on the day of. Leading up to the day of, moisturize, drink plenty of water, and get good rest, and your skin will to see how she would like you to prep your skin the morning of, and just enjoy! Makeup is great, but the day is even more important!

you know you will be getting married we We have a lot of brides come in before they’re engaged and we love it! On average it takes 16 weeks for a dress to get here if the bride needs to order. Plus we recommend having 4-6 weeks available once the dress arrives to we do allow brides to purchase out of our collection when they are on a tighter time crunch. Brides have more options available to them when they have time to order. As well as oftentimes it saves brides money when they your correct size, as well as make neckline and sleeve changes which is cheaper for the designer to do while making the gown than it is for us to do in house once it’s here.
