IPPE Workbook Updates
If you are an IPPE preceptor, you have likely seen the updated IPPE workbook This newsletter will focus on what's new, what you need to know as a preceptor, and how you can help students complete their workbook activities
Issues identified in the IPPE workbooks:
Previously, the student had a separate IPPE workbook for each year, P1-P3 years
This sometimes presented problems with student schedules if they didn't have a rotation scheduled in a certain setting (such as no community rotation in the P2 year)
Some students are able to complete activities quickly and easily, based on their prior work experience or knowledge base
Some students need more experience and exposure to certain tasks and activities to become more independent
Remediation or completion of incomplete tasks often had to be done with simulation, losing the value of experiential education
Preceptors unavailable at times to sign hardcopy workbook
Solutions and Updates to the New Preceptor Workbook
Combine all workbooks in 1 consolidated workbook
Students can work on more advanced activities, based on the preceptor's recommendation
Students can more easily work through levels of {Introduced -- Reinforced -- Practiced} with one comprehensive workbook
Preceptors can help students identify areas to continue to work on during future rotations, including those in another academic year
Junior Preceptors (P4 students) can be utilized for layered learning for topic discussions during P2 Fall Week IPPE
Students can explore and practice pre-clinical activities, if ready, before P3 year All tracking completed via electronic logs in CORE ELMS
