Nursing EPAs and Implications for Pharmacy

A recent publication in Nurse Education Today sought to describe nurse-preceptors' willingness to entrust tasks to students. The ndings are published here and here is a brief summary:

The article explores the considerations that nurse-preceptors make when entrusting postgraduate nursing students with professional activities. The study involved interviews with sixteen nursepreceptors from three postgraduate nursing specializations in Dutch hospitals, and identied three themes:

preceptor's expectations of students, preceptor's own role in entrustment decisions, preceptors' use of information sources to arrive at entrustment decisions.

The ndings suggest that entrustment requires more than objective assessments of competencies, and that preceptors' subjective expectations and self-awareness of their role in decision-making are also important Combining different sources of information can make assessments more transparent and explicit The study's ndings may contribute to the improvement of workplace-based assessments and the training of preceptors.

Would you like to be a part of our mentorship program for pharmacy students? Building Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy’s network of mentors for our students is a priority for us Since our founding, the pharmacy program boasts a diverse network of alumni and preceptor pharmacists with a vast variety of professional and leadership positions. We see mentors as guides to help students on their academic and professional journey by offering knowledge and advice with a real-world perspective

Will you share your expertise and a bit of time with our students? If so, our rst step is to compile a listing of mentors. To help us develop your mentor prole please click HERE and complete the requested information

We intend to offer a mentor fair or networking session near the beginning of the next academic year (early September) This is expected to be an in-person gathering, but we will have a virtual component for those outside of the geographic area or unable to attend in person In the meantime, we will share our mentor listing with the students so that they can become familiar with the options for mentors. In the coming months we will provide additional details regarding PCSP’s mentor program and the process for pairing mentors and mentees as we lead up to our kickoff mentor fair Thank you for your service to the college and stay tuned!
