Arts Day Information The Best Day of the Year Celebrating50 years

The History of Arts Day

In 1974, PLC held the first Senior School Arts Day.

It all started with a committee being formed in the early weeks of first term in 1974 and consisted of two representatives from each House and two members of staff. The committee President was appointed the inaugural School Arts Captain and in addition, each House had for the first time, a House Arts Captain as well as a House Sports Captain.

Members of the original Committee and the first House Arts Captains were:

Kerry Dowland (Carmichael)

Caroline McKenzie (McNeil)

Rebecca Clough (Ferguson); and

Wendy Carlin (Stewart).

“We were uncertain whether enough girls were interested or willing to participate in such a festival but the only way to find out was to make the opportunity available, and then it was up to the girls themselves to take it or leave it,” wrote Wendy Carlin, President of the Arts Committee in the ‘74 Kookaburra.

In 2024, we are celebrating 50 Years of “The Best Day of the Year”, our fabulous Senior School Arts Day, and with every year it keeps getting better and better.

The commitment and passion from the girls is what makes that day such a special day, The school is buzzing from 7.00 am in the morning with excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. It is a day to celebrate The Arts, support your house and most of all have fun!

It is a day that brings our whole community together to support each other and your House!

One of the most anticipated performances on the day is ”The PLC Staff Act” and every year the wonderful PLC staff do not dissapoint!.
