YOU CREATED A NEW HOME FOR SENIORS! Hillside residents grateful to donors and getting ready to move back home
Thanks to you, the first gathering in the new space at The Village of Hillside was held in August, almost a year after 24+ residents were relocated for the building of their new home. The celebration marked the wrap up of the fundraising campaign, led by committee co-chairs Fred Walstrom and Linda Rhodes-Pauly. You contributed over $1.6 million to give these seniors a brand new, accessible home, and a larger community senior center—thank you! Construction is now expected to be completed in October, and residents are looking forward to moving in!

WHAT IS THE SPIRIT OF GIVING? For Colleen Froats it’s custom aprons, appreciation and giving what you can.
“I’ve always believed the more you give, the more you have. The residents make every day worth all I can give,” Collen Froats wrote in her Melinda Conway Callahan Spirit of Giving Award-winning entry. Colleen, a resident assistant at Perry Farm Village answered, “Why do you give to PVM?” for the Spirit of Giving contest, open to all employees who donate to the PVM Foundation. The winner gets $500 donated to their Village in their name. Colleen gives in many ways, from financial gifts to sewing aprons for residents. “The ladies had to wear a bib at meals,” said Colleen. “I thought, ‘they need something more.’ Now they each have an apron and they love them,” she said fondly. Love sprang from the Chapel you built as work continued on the Health & Wellness Center fundraising campaign at East Harbor. Wedding bells rang for Eugene Kleemann and wife, Maria, six years (almost to the day) after the dedication of the chapel named for Gene’s parents. The Karl & Frieda Kleemann Chapel opened in July 2010, a place dedicated to spiritual well-being. You gave an amazing $1.8 million to lay those bricks!

GIVE A RESIDENT A ONCE IN A LIFETIME NIGHT! PVMF’s 13th Annual Gala is November 11! On November 11 at COBO, celebrate PVM residents and community seniors living life to the fullest, having a little fun—and All That Jazz! For a donation of $250, you can send a resident to the party! “Each year we hear of residents who would love to attend the gala, but due to a fixed income or other restrictions can’t afford to go,” said Paul Miller, PVMF President. “You now have an opportunity to give a resident a night to remember. You can send someone who couldn’t go otherwise!” The food, fun, raffle and of course—JAZZ start at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP pre-reception, general reception at 6:30 p.m., then dinner and program at 7:30 p.m.

DONNA: The thought of a senior living on
their own, struggling to find care and services they need. Also, thunderstorms and clowns! PVMF:
That scares us too—not the clowns—but seniors without the help they need.
DONNA: Exactly! Aging brings uncertainty, but
the good thing is PVM donors help seniors enter their later years with confidence. PVMF:
What inspires you to support PVMF as a donor and board member?
DONNA: Two main reasons: 1) the need for
services is growing and there are too few affordable solutions for seniors; 2) PVM delivers results. PVMF:
