What the heck are you talking about?

FIGHT FOR OLDER ADULTS?! I have a bad back!

The harsh reality is, when charitable causes compete, older adults can be forgotten. But there’s hope! Things are getting better. Aging needs are getting more attention on a statewide and national scale, but we’ve just started down the road. Your Mom. Your Dad. Maybe even YOU need more caring people to take up this cause. To volunteer, donate, care and advocate—to fight. You, PVM donor, are our greatest asset. You’re already in the trenches. Caring people like you are ensuring that older adults can live with dignity and purpose—no matter their circumstances. You know that it’s not just the very poor who are affected. You’ve seen how a battle with cancer, a fall or the loss of a spouse can send a life spinning out of control.

Thank you for choosing to fight for older adults! Please continue to stay involved, to spread the word and continue to donate! P.S. Good News! Governor Snyder’s economic roadmap makes planning for Michigan’s aging population a priority! According to Michigan’s 21st Century Economy Commission; mi21stcenturyeconomy.com

Ways you can join the fight:

VOLUNTEER! We can use your help in multiple ways! From fall clean-ups to board leadership – you have skills that can make an impact!

DONATE! Make a donation to an organization that serves (and fights for) older adults!

PICK UP THE PHONE! Call your elected representatives – let them know you care about the needs of older adults!

ADVOCATE! Get others involved. By sharing in the cause, you create a better world!

BECAUSE YOU GIVE TO A CAUSE THAT PUTS VETERANS FIRST, DAWN AND DENNIS HAVE A HOME.

Dawn could see Dennis wasn’t quite himself. It turns out he had vascular dementia which affected his memory— and mobility. They needed help. Their home was no longer safe for Dennis and he needed care that Dawn couldn’t provide alone. They looked for housing, everywhere and everything close to their daughter’s home: 13 places total—some they knew they couldn’t afford. They were desperate. Then, they found The Village of Holly Woodlands. It was safe, friendly, and close. Thanks to PVM’s veteran preference program, the wait list was a miraculous 2 weeks, not the regular 2 years! They now have a safe place to live near their daughter. Dawn can even keep working! She coordinates Meals on Wheelsat the Village!

Dawn & Dennis are still together in love and loving their new home!

Your gifts DID THIS!

Without your kindness PVM would not be here today. That might sound shocking, but it is so TRUE. All roads within PVM lead to a gift from a donor. From the very first gift by Clarence D. Sterling to purchase land in 1945, to your 2017 donations, gifts have been the secret sauce to the wonderful accomplishments shared in this newsletter, each one before it, AND in the future. Your donations make it happen! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Thank you for caring enough to give. The photos below demonstrate your kindness in action. Please take a moment to enjoy your good work. Your gifts REALLY matter! THANK YOU!

Until no older adult needs us, WE NEED YOU. Stories like these are only possible because you care enough to give. Without you, Victor would still feel like a burden.

Before you, Beatrice had no reason to live.

He was wheelchair-bound with diabetes and spinal stenosis, and relied on family to take him to doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping. Wellness classes—made possible by caring donors—saved his life and gave him back his independence. Victor has lost 100 pounds and is no longer in a wheelchair. He chooses to take the stairs every day from his third floor apartment and rides his bike to Tigers’ games.

Before coming to PVM, she was waiting to die. She had severe osteoporosis, high blood pressure and other health issues. You changed her life. After becoming a resident, Beatrice lost 30 pounds and got involved. She led wellness classes. She cheered on her fellow residents at PVM’s annual wellness competition, the Village Victory Cup and volunteered as a Board member.

Older adults like Beatrice need you on their side!

Keep fighting for seniors like Victor!
