GENEVIEVE AND HER FAMILY NEEDED HELP Because of you, she is getting the care that she DESERVES!

H O L I D AY EDITION

DIGNITY & PURPOSE

Virgina’s favorite part about living in a Green House® is her ability to pitch in and help out — giving her purpose every day.

THANKS TO DONORS, ELDERS HAVE OPTIONS.

Genevieve was living alone before the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Green Houses® (a nursing home alternative). She spent years slowly losing her mobility, first using a walker, then a wheelchair. When her apartment became infested with bedbugs, she was helpless to fight them. Her nieces and nephews took turns coming over to help, but they needed help themselves. They knew Genevieve would be miserable at a nursing home, but they couldn’t give her the care she needed.

Without donors, Genevieve’s only option would be an institutional nursing home. Your donations mean Genevieve, her neighbor Virginia and other elders in grave financial need are getting health services, home repair, transportation, and more to keep them living a life of dignity and purpose—free from fear and isolation.

Luckily, they found this home-like alternative in Detroit. When I first moved I’d say “It’s nice, but it’s not home,” says Genevieve. “Now I say, ‘this is my home and it’s nice!’ I tell my family ‘Thank you for bringing me home!’”

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

DONORS SAVE THANKSGIVING Because of caring donors, The Village of Rosebush Manor can do Thanksgiving right! The dinner got so large, they needed more space.

Thanksgiving = Family, football and food, a lot of food! – For most people…but for an older adult, it can mean being alone.

Donors stepped up! In 2017 the village opened an expanded/remodeled dining room – all made possible because of YOU, the donor! Thank you!

The Village of Rosebush Manor (just North of Mt. Pleasant), realized a lot of their residents are alone for the holidays, so they opened up their dining room to host a Thanksgiving dinner celebration! Family members & friends came, and a new tradition was born!

Happy Thanksgiving – from The Village of Rosebush Manor!!

FIGHT LONELINESS!

Why you’re needed…

THE HOLIDAYS AREN’T HAPPY FOR EVERYONE. Loneliness Kills. Donors save lives.

Tim’s holidays used to be filled with shopping trips, family outings and more, but time has created a void—especially around the holidays. Each year Tim and his wife, Mary would spend the evenings before Christmas shopping together and enjoying meals out while looking for the perfect gifts for their family. Since Mary’s death, Tim spends most of his time alone. His children are grown and living miles away.

LONELINESS KILLS.

Studies suggest it’s even deadlier than smoking.*

Without the help of donors, Tim would be very lonely. Thankfully – he lives at a PVM Village where he can participate in holiday parties, social outings, shopping trips and more—all of which are made possible by caring donors.

Here’s why: • Around 30% increased risk of heart disease & stroke • 64% increase in developing dementia • 26% increased likelihood of death

You’re needed to keep older adults like Tim from extreme loneliness!

SHIRLEY & RON’S LEGACY

Shirley and Ron’s bequest will ensure a future with faith-based senior living!

SHIRLEY AND RON ARE REMEMBERING OLDER ADULTS LIKE SHIRLEY’S MOTHER. “Ron and I feel PVM is deserving of some of our savings. We want to ensure that faith-based senior housing is available to seniors like my mother.” “My mother lived in a senior residence in Canada where she helped in the kitchen. It gave her a feeling of self-worth and contribution, even as she suffered from Alzheimer’s,” Shirley said. “That’s why PVM means so much to me. Seeing the residents of the Green Houses,® an alternative to nursing care, move into their new homes and help the staff with daily tasks was incredibly moving. It was a proud moment to know I was a part of that,” Said Shirley. RON AND SHIRLEY

Shirley’s aunt was on the Board of Directors at The Village of Redford, where Shirley also later served. Shirley was on the board when the Village’s Green Houses® were developed.

Anyone can leave a bequest.

Shirley & Ron’s legacy will ensure that faith-based senior living communities are available today and for years to come!

You have the power to answer future prayers today!

Your bequest – of any size – can do the same!

LET’S TALK!

DID YOU KNOW? Michigan is the 27th WORST state to grow old in?!* We have the 18th largest population of older adults and the 16th lowest older adult life expectancy. In other words there is still a lot of work to be done! The bright side‌(other than the fact that Michigan outranks Ohio ) is that the older adults living at a PVM Village have caring donors like you on their side. Imagine where this state would be without you. Your kindness touches 5,500+ older adults in Michigan and helps keep seniors healthy and in their homes longer. I believe together we can do more to help climb the ladder and make Michigan the BEST place to age.
