Ranch Homes – 4-unit

We Are Pleased to Announce the Exciting and New Homes at the Village of East Harbor When deciding where to live, there are important things to consider: Proximity to friends and family, who your neighbors are going to be and how long it will take to drive to your doctor are among them. The Village of East Harbor, a senior living community located in Chesterfield, has been the choice of many Macomb County adults. What first attracts them to the property is the variety of floor plans and housing options, which include independent villas and apartments, assisted living amenities, short-term rehabilitation services, long term nursing care and memory care. This past year the community opened Harbor Inn, which consisted of an additional 36 ranch homes with private entrances and amenities like one-car attached garages, and 60 mid-rise apartments. “The ranch homes are available for immediate occupancy,” said Carolyn Martin, administrator at The Village of East Harbor. They feature an open floor plan and are fully equipped with a kitchen, pantry, 8-foot ceilings with coves, high grade finishes, oversized windows, stackable washer/ dryer unit and concrete patio slab perfect for outdoor entertaining. “If you’re looking for a mid-rise apartment, those that feature patios and balconies have been so

What will your next chapter look like? How will you make new friends? What new hobbies would you like to learn? Many of us have spent decades juggling the demands of home, work, and community, and while those experiences have

popular that they are now in limited supply,” added Martin. Pick your floor and location as soon as possible for the best selection. Each of the 60 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments is furnished with a full appliance package. They are fully equipped with the latest smart technology such as a programmable thermostat, outlet in the living room, remote front door lock and light switch so daily activities are more pleasant and convenient. Carports are available and all units are pet friendly. The Village of East Harbor is located at 33875 Kiely Drive in Chesterfield. Rental costs are estimated between $2,750 and $3,050 per month based on the unit selected. To learn more, call (586) 725-6030. Interested in learning more about The Village of East Harbor? been incredibly rewarding, it might be time to consider a new approach. Moving to a senior living community gives you the opportunity to expand your horizons in a whole new way. Some of us might be at risk of isolation as our family and friends age, and a senior living community allows you to develop an effective support network for years to come. Knowing that simple life chores like lawn and snow maintenance are taken care of by the staff also frees us up to focus on new hobbies and goals, so that we can keep growing and sharing our expertise with others. There’s also security in knowing that we will be able to stay in the same community as our needs change over time, supported by on campus medical care. So, what will your next chapter look like?

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late to Plan Your Move to the Village of East Harbor While no one knows what the future holds, keep these facts in mind if you’re considering making the move into a new home soon: 1. The housing market is strong and well-maintained homes are selling at great prices fast. 2. Because interest rates are low, the market is flooded with buyers, and it can be hard for homeowners to find a new house once their current residence sells. 3. Snow and ice can wreak havoc on home structures and must be removed from sidewalks and driveways regularly.

Whether you are ready to move “right now,” need some suggestions on selling your house, have questions about the finances of living in a senior community, want to share the process with out-of-town family, or are in the early stages of “exploring options,” our team members are here for you. We’ve helped many happy East Harbor residents on the journey to their best life now!

“Don’t miss your window of opportunity,” said Carolyn Martin, administrator at The Village of East Harbor. “We don’t want you to have any regrets. Who knows what will happen next year?” The Village of East Harbor is a senior living community that includes independent villas and apartments, assisted living amenities, short-term rehabilitation services, longterm nursing care and memory care. The community broke ground on Harbor Inn’s 36 ranch homes, 60 mid-rise apartments, and a new wellness center in November 2020. “These units are now available and many residents who moved in already are meeting their neighbors, exploring various activities and enjoying the extra free time they have since they no longer must rake leaves, clean gutters and shovel snow,” said Martin. The best part? “[All these homes] are ready for people to move into pretty quickly,” she said.

Wellness Happens! At Presbyterian Villages, we take a holistic approach to mind and body care. Our new Wellness Center at the Village of East Harbor and Harbor Inn is a testament to that commitment. Specially designed for folks who are 55 and older, all of our exercise equipment, facilities, and classes will allow you to feel welcome and comfortable while you are keeping fit. Membership is included for all residents. We’ll also offer Wellness Center memberships to the public, 55 and older. In addition to our customized fitness equipment and vibrant group classes, a variety of therapeutic services such as physical/rehabilitation, massage and hydrotherapy treadmills will be offered. Other facilities include locker rooms and comfortable community spaces for you to meet with and spend time with new friends. We’ll also have a bistro on-site which will feature healthy snacks and pub-type fare— so you can have a beer right after you earn it in the gym! While we have a robust fitness program on offer right now in the community, please stay tuned as the Wellness Center is completed and opened within the next couple of months, with the bistro slated to follow shortly thereafter.

See for Yourself A few times each year, The Village of East Harbor opens its doors so visitors and guests can see for themselves what makes the community a great place to live and put down roots. This event is a great time to talk with residents and get a feel for the campus.

The Intersection of Progress at The Village of East Harbor East Harbor provides in the community, that he donated toward the project capital campaign and named a street. “It was always Esther’s Way in my household. Our children and I kidded my wife about her leadership—and loved her for it. And she was always right, too.” Jim’s mother was a resident at VEH many years ago. More recently, Jim received rehab services following a surgery. Thus, in addition to his desire to honor his wife, Esther, he wants to thank the staff for what he considers excellent care.

PVM Foundation Board Chair James S. Gompers, standing at the intersection of the newly named Esther’s Way and Geering Drive, at the Village of East Harbor campus.

The Village of East Harbor is blessed in many ways—location, residents, families, staff and more. It’s also fortunate to have long-time supporters and friends. There’s physical evidence of this in the new Harbor Inn development, where Esther’s Way meets Geering Drive! Jim Gompers has long been involved with Presbyterian Villages of Michigan and The Village of East Harbor. He first served on the Village of East Harbor’s board for a couple of years, then PVM asked him to serve on the main board. Now serving as the board chair for the PVM Foundation, Jim feels so strongly about the resources for seniors that

Joan Geering is a long-time supporter and committee leader for the PVM Foundation Gala. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak, she is dedicated to her community and quality of life for all. Eagerly anticipating the latest building boom at Joan Geering (right), long-time donor to the Village of East Harbor, and brother Lloyd (left). East Harbor, Joan saw her donation to the project campaign as a way to recognize and honor her family. She said, “The VEH campus and staff are extremely impressive. I am also very appreciative of David Miller’s leadership. My heart is with the Village of East Harbor and always will be.” At East Harbor, either way you turn at the intersection of these two streets promises a good direction!

Going Green–The Wave of the Future Building a sustainable community is about more than hiring the right staff, arranging social activities, and providing exceptional day-to-day services. It’s also about ensuring that the homes and facilities we’re building are environmentally-sound, non-toxic, and that they take advantage of the latest smart technology. Each home is built with smart appliances that make it easy to control lights, temperature, locks, and garage doors from a simple smartphone app interface. The result? Comfort at your fingertips. Chaplain Laura has helped nearly half of the residents at Harbor Inn learn how to use the smart technology that’s built right into their homes. “For some of them, it’s a bit intimidating at the start, especially if they aren’t used to using the latest technology,” she explains. “Even if they’re not ready to set it up when they move in, I check in with them regularly to offer training, help them learn more about its benefits, and provide handson assistance with setup, downloading the app, and walking through its functionality. And once they see how easy it is to use, they’re hooked!” It’s not just about convenience, either. For many residents—and their families—these smart devices can help light up their home prior to arrival. “If they leave to run a few errands early in the day, then have something else come up and don’t return home again until the evening, they’re able to turn on lights through the app before they get home,” Chaplain Laura notes.

“We’ve had some residents have unexpected situations arise, like going to the hospital and staying overnight, and they—or their family—can make sure that their lights are off, their thermostat is set, and their doors are locked, right through the app. So it is convenient for everyone involved.” That extends to the materials used to build the homes and facilities, too. Our pursuit of LEED certification for our buildings is in recognition of our choice in materials: • Sourcing from sustainable—and local, where possible—suppliers • selecting rapidly renewing materials • ensuring we limit waste during and after the construction process • and allowing only non-toxic and biodegradable products in our designs. Integrating our communities into our beautiful natural environment goes a long way to building a sustainable and healthy environment. Where possible, we accent Michigan’s stunning natural beauty, bringing it into our homes and facilities across the state. “We live in one of the most beautiful regions in the world,” Director of Development Kevin Petru shares. “We not only want to build off of that natural beauty, we want to care for it. Our goal is to build vibrant, longterm communities for all of our residents, and building green means that they’re free to enjoy themselves without worry that they’re being exposed to toxic materials—for them or their families.”

Senior living doesn’t mean isolated living! You now have the time to enjoy the amenities, attractions, shopping, festivals and services the community has to offer. At The Village of East Harbor, you are at the heart of a thriving community—all close to home!

Meet Your New Neighbors The residents at The Village of East Harbor and Harbor Inn are a diverse group of adults who enjoy a variety of experiences. Within the community, there are plenty of things to do and see, like concerts and special events as well as games, sports, fitness classes,

hobbies, clubs and more. Residents can also enjoy seasonal fun, such as the recent Fall Harvest festivities, Halloween costume contest and Craft and Trunk Sale. All these activities take place on the spacious 44-acre campus, but residents also have access to transportation for shopping,

medical appointments and errands. Many residents also prefer to the convenience of driving themselves around town to visit their favorite restaurants and places of worship. The Village of East Harbor promotes independent living, so residents are welcome to come and go as they please, participate in only the activities that interest them and form new friendships within the community while maintaining their relationships with friends and family near and far. For those who need assistance, a variety of support services are available as needed. Residents recovering from surgery, an illness or injury can take advantage of shortterm rehabilitation services. If their daily needs change, there are many care options like enhanced living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing care, long-term nursing care and respite services available. Residents can easily and swiftly transition into other living arrangements as needed.

248.281.2020

Bring Your Friends Just because your best friend happens to have fur and four legs doesn’t mean they can’t be part of your daily life! We know how important and deep these relationships can be, which is why we’re very pet friendly. While we may not have a specific dog park, many of our residents enjoy taking their dogs for a stroll in our gorgeous, 44-acre park-like setting. We have an enclosed courtyard for weekly off-leash exercise, and we hold fun events like pet parades during holidays, or our annual pet blessing in our chapel. A one-time pet fee is applied at movein, your pet must be 35 lbs or less, and we require yearly vaccine updates.

History With the signature of President Thomas Jefferson on January 11, 1805, Michigan became a separate territory. For a brief period beginning in 1834, the Michigan Territory included Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and part of the Dakotas! In 1837, the “rabbit-and-mitten” territory we know as Michigan became the 26th state in the union. A hamlet called “Chesterfield” was first settled in the 1830s and formally organized in 1842. When the Grand Trunk Railroad came through in 1865, business development was stimulated and the community grew. It had its own Post Office from 1875 until 1907. Residents benefit from a professionally trained, caring staff guided by our Medical Director. Recreational and social activities, on-site barber/beauty shop, and chaplaincy services are included. Hospice care is available.

We believe all residents are entitled to quality senior living, priority access to health care and services provided by our dedicated and caring team. Once you have had an opportunity to review this information we look forward to speaking with you. If we can assist you further, please feel free to call at any time.

Transitional Care Unit/ Rehabilitation Services The Transitional Care Unit staff provides rehabilitation programs that allow the patient the tools to maximize their individual potential. Designed for seniors recovering from acute medical conditions such as cardiac or stroke, fractures and hip or knee replacements, our rehabilitation team provides personalized physical, speech and occupational therapies.

We’ll Get You There Is there anything better than hitting the open road? And anything less enjoyable than being stuck in traffic? Our transportation services, including two vans (one with a lift) and a town car, enable you to run errands without the hassle of driving around town. We have weekly trips to Kroger, Walmart, banks, and malls, as well as regular group events like visiting downtown Detroit, Christmas light tours, excursions to Frankenmuth, weekly restaurant lunches, and more. Each month, we’ll publish an updated calendar of locations and events that you can join. All of this is included! And if you need help getting to a doctor or dentist’s appointment, you can schedule our on-site car for free to anywhere in Chesterfield. Need to go a bit further afield? You can schedule a vehicle for that, too. Senior living means more travel and independence when you don’t have to do the driving!

So save your driving for that next great road trip! You can rely on us to keep you connected to all of the services, businesses, and events happening in our backyard.
