NBA All-Star Challenges USA to Three-Point Contest Paradisus Dei welcomed the opportunity to partner with Rashard Lewis on the first-ever Put Up A Prayer. This national, NBA-style, three-point contest challenges people to participate, who then pass the challenge on to others. Put Up A Prayer officially began on January 31, 2015 when the two-time All-Star and NBA Champion Lewis issued his own challenge to the nation. "If you think you can beat me, I will give away $10,000 to the winner. So get out there, shoot some 3s, and challenge your friends," Lewis said to launch the event. Put Up A Prayer is open to anyone in the United States and encourages participation with a variety of roles. Participants can choose to be a 3-Point Shooter, a Team Captain, a fan, or simply “put up” their own prayer. Team Captains play an especially critical role by recruiting fans, raising $20 per shot attempt, and spreading the word about the competition. All ages are welcome to participate, opening this event to families, sports groups, companies, and other organizations. Sixteen finalists and their Team Captains receive an all-expenses-paid trip to go head-to-head in a live, NBA-style three-point shootout against Rashard Lewis this summer. The winner takes home $10,000. “Life is more than basketball. My family is everything to me,” said Lewis in his video challenging the nation. Proceeds from Put Up A Prayer benefit The Choice Wine – 7 Steps to a Superabundant Marriage, a groundbreaking, new program from Paradisus Dei to help couples strengthen their marriages. Mark Hartfiel, a high school teammate of Lewis’, participated in The Choice Wine and helped create the contest. “I’m donating $100 to a ministry dedicated to helping families find joy. It’s personally helped me become a better husband and a better father,” said Hartfiel. The contest website, PutUpAPrayer.com, is expected to be a draw in and of itself. This innovative site creates a virtual contest community in which all can participate. Teams register online, create custom profiles, post videos of their 3-point shooting skills and scores, and share their experience via social media. Fans donate directly online, and everyone can watch the leaderboard. Complete contest details can be found online, making PutUpAPrayer.com the place to follow all the action. Registration began January 31, 2015. Paradisus Dei is excited to partner with Rashard Lewis on Put Up A Prayer, to encourage prayer and support for marriage and families in such a fun, healthy and innovative way. About Paradisus Dei: Founded in 2001, Paradisus Dei helps families discover the superabundance of God within marriage and family life. Current programming serves couples, men and youth in 41 states and five countries. Integrating the teachings of the faith with findings of modern science and the wisdom of the saints, these programs have been independently verified to be profoundly life transforming. Our goal is to encounter people wherever they are on their spiritual journey and help take them further. Paradisus Dei is an independent, lay Catholic ministry dedicated to marriage and family life. Southern Oregon metal band attic lands squarely in a tech, death/avant-garde Venn diagram. Attic’s collective head assembles various musical themes; ranging from the analysis of the human condition, to B budget horror movie monsters. While drawing inspiration from the Rogue Valley’s seasons, and showcasing more than just an affinity for speed; attic is an amalgam of contrasts, seizing attention with organic rhythms and dramatic lulls amidst a surging storm of punch-your-teeth-out thrash reminiscent of both modern and early legendary metal contributors.

Slipshod Slipshod was born out of friendship and a yearning to perform. Matt Snook and Steve Blanchard are veterans of the Pacific Northwest bluegrass circuit and have jammed together for many years. In the Summer of 2013, they decided to form a duo to play around the northwest and see where it went from there. As 2015 dawns, they have played nearly 60 shows together and traveled around the region playing and entertaining to an ever growing fan base. Snook plays banjo and dobro and Blanchard plays guitar. They both sing and Blanchard will be introducing more mandolin to their shows in the future. Matt Snook has performed with several bands in the northwest. Snook’s Family Band, Free Range, Mischief, Third Street Bluegrass, and SugarPine. Steve Blanchard has performed with his own band Steve Blanchard and the Open Range, The Bill and Jake Jolliff Band, the northwest favorite Prairie Flyer, Jim Faddis and One More Ride, and SugarPine. While they were performing with SugarPine, it was there that Snook hatched the idea of performing as a duo. Since they’re both eager to perform, it seemed like a great fit and Slipshod was born. Since then they have developed a strong professional act and have several regular gigs in the Northwest. “We’re a big hit in Yachats, OR.” says Blanchard. “We have been fortunate to perform several places and did about nine well attended shows in town last year alone. We have performed in George, WA., The Dalles, OR., Boardman Or., and Sequim, WA, just to name a few.”
Slipshod performs a lot of traditional tunes, Tim O’Brien, Gordon Lightfoot, Norman Blake, Simon and Garfunkel, and original tunes. Anything is fair game if they can arrange it in a way that make sense. “We always get compliments about our song selection and arrangements.” says Blanchard. Slipshod is slowly putting together a CD to be released sometime this year. They also hope to sit down and work on more original tunes in 2015. And speaking of 2015, it is shaping up to be a good year for Slipshod. They are hoping to perform about 75 shows and help develop their brand of music to more corners of the northwest and beyond. In August 2014, Blanchard became an Artist Representative for Preston Thompson Guitars in Sisters, Or. (www.pktguitars.com ) That means that they will be doing more performing in Central and Eastern Oregon in the future and other destinations unknown. So if you’re looking for a fresh sound of bluegrass/folk/Americana/et. al. , then get out and see these guys. As Ken Cartwright says (Festival and Concert Promoter for Mill City’s Canyon Arts Center) “Slipshod is the Real Deal. Professional musicians who respect the art of creating music and presenting it in a fun and intelligent performance.” Be sure to check out their website for their upcoming schedule. www.slipshodmusic.net. “Don’t Let this band’s name fool you! Their mastery of the bluegrass/folk genre is ANYthing but Slipshod. This Blanchard-Snook pairing is a wonderful balance of fluid instrumentals, strong vocals, and good humor. Go see ‘em.” - Debby Kooy, Director, George Coffee House and the George Bluegrass Festival.

NINJAS WITH SYRINGES What’s your name and instrument? My name is Matt Danger and I play guitar and sing songs at people in Ninjas With Syringes. How long have you guys been around? 2006, but our first release was in 2008. Who are you guys? We are three white, Jewish 30-something s living in SE Portland who all have current Netflix Why should people care about what you are doing? We are three highly motivated, self-actualized gentlemen who like to think that you would enjoy having hangout in your kitchen for a bit. What do you sing about? We philosophize, discuss, and write about all things socioeconomically and political: ranging from robots, dreams, video game level difficult, hangovers, true love, divorce, travel, leisure, gentrification, touring, bad relationships, good relationships, drugs, and investing in yourself. You said “gentrification”, care to expand on that? Too many good bars and music venues have gone under recently in our city. We here at Ninjas With Syringes don’t like that. We want to help revive Portland’s diverse live music scene, so we try to get as many people as possible to come out to our shows via fliering, posters, label support, and all the other online outlets to make the shows incredible. How do you plan to do that? We’re trying to do shows that aren’t just 5 punk rock bands stacked on top of each other that all sounds the same on one bill- but mix it up with some other cool artists doing lots of progressive things in hip-hop, rock, metal, alterative, comedy, indie, anyone who can bring something of value to the table that’s new and those who can pull a good crowd to make shows fun and worthwhile. We’ve all been to a bad show at some point or another,
and before we go off to the races, we want to have our priorities in order. So we are taking an active role in our community to be the change that we want to be to ensure that the sacristy public place [the stage] will stay a vital part of the community for free speech and expression, and in doing so, ensure we won’t be wasting anybody’s time. Because that would just be rude. What’s the best song on the new album and what’s it about? The best jam off the new album would probably be track 5 [In My Head] because we got one of our music heroes, Tokashi O’Hashi from the 80-90’s LA butt rock era to play a guitar solo on the beginning of it. I still don’t know why he agreed to play on it, but that guy kills- it’s hilariously great. The song is about being entangled in a relationship with the wrong girl, being a little buzzed, but being true to yourself no matter the outcome so you can move forward with your life. I hope that song can help someone younger in a similar situation someday- but if not, it’s at least catchy as heck. How would you compare Jetsetter to your earlier works? This album is a return to having fun and choosing to be positive. The last 2 album we released were such a bummer looking back. Not that the songs were bad or anything- but this time around, it was time for a much needed conscious leap forward to really remember why we started this band in the first place: It was to make people feel great, about themselves and life. It’s our 7th album and we considered it being our last one at some pointbut later decided we were wrong and couldn’t quit this band even if we wanted to, and putting out records is way cheaper than therapy. Trust us, Richie looked into it, and he got through a half semester of community college once.
How many other bands do the members of Ninjas With Syringes play in? A lot. 3 or 4 I think. Everyone in Ninjas plays in at least two others bands pretty much full time, including myself and we prefer it that way. It’s a true family of musicians dedicating to helping one another out and having fun. Even if it’s a bit incestuous at time, we’re all on the same team and get to drink beers together regularly and talk business strategy, tours, releases, and PR in our underground secret society of alternative communication. So it’s like a Playboy clubhouse for Punk Rock? …All of our girlfriends and wives are very lucky and amazing, supportive women. Our goal was always to work for ourselves and we are finding out every day how much work that really is when you decide to go for it. From digital distribution, local booking, touring, overheads, websites, marketing, PR, recording, engineering, mastering, artist management, to running a label and working with other artistsbut it’s all somehow happening. Where can people check you guys out? Nopantsrecords.com, Facebook & Twitter. Scope out Ninjas With Syringes, The Brass, Wild Bill, Gum A Rapper (Gums & Antitune), Drawback, Mr. Plow, Rendered Useless, and more being added every day to our roster of people we choose to work with for the same goal: no pants, maybe a swimming pool someday. Anything else noteworthy in this interview about the album? Nope. Buy our record. Check out Ninjas With Syringes live on stage or online at Nopantsrecords.com, Facebook, & Twitter @NinjasWSyringes, @Nopantsrecords.
TIGER
X
Grammy Award Winning Producer, Tiger Roberts, steps from behind the boards and into the spotlight as TIGER X. Releasing his debut single “Strange Fruit” from his debut album “By Any Means Necessary” Tiger X blends Rock, Soul, R&B, Funk and Blues in a way that is very refreshing, pleasing to the ear and has given him a very unique
sound that he likes to call “Rock & Soul” or the return of “Electric Church Music.” Reminiscent of some artists such as Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Sly & The Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix. TIGER X brings you “The Return of Electric Church Music” and has created a modern day genre of “Rock & Soul.”
“Chicago based Tiger's voice draws you in, never shows off, always taking you to the right place. "Since U Been Gone" shows a soulfully impressive vocal range, from falsetto to baritone, and a fine, wailing guitar coda. The song's winning hook and dramatic feel make it a good candidate for film/TV. The similar "Hands Down" deploys a whispery falsetto and a memorable chorus. While there's deft vocal layering on these recordings, we can only imagine how good his guitars would sound if Tiger got out of his cage and into a proper studio.” — MUSIC CONNECTION
There is a highly original energy fueling Irie Idea. Curtis Irie and Morgan Smith both grew up playing punk because it was fast, loud and against the grain of mainstream music. Along their journey they have matured and learned about music. These days the boys subscribe to educating themselves on roots music while making contributions to it’s ever-growing evolution and progression. The full sound of Irie Idea comes from only two members. Keeping up traditional blues and rocksteady values while adding in the best of ska, punk and funk would be a feat for a traditional four-piece band. Somehow, Irie and Smith bring a bright brass section, bouncing bass and vocal harmonization without sacrificing intricacy or intensity. Irie and Smith grew up playing in separate bands around Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. When they met while living in Philadelphia they shared the same musical goal: to create and perform energetic songs of rebellion that carry both musical depth and lyrical content that listeners could intimately relate to. While building a foundation of friends and fans they shared the stage with bands such as The Slackers, Chris Murray, The Forthrights, The Menzingers and Bomb The Music Industry. Coinciding with the release of their debut full length (Here's Hoping Somebody Can Find a Way Outta Here) Smith and Irie packed their bags and relocated to rainy but beautiful Portland Oregon to spread their gospel. They began playing frequently around the pacific northwest while writing bigger and better tunes and seeing how far their sound would travel. The Irie sound caught the ears of production dream team Sammy Kay and Joseph Quinones at The Steady Rock Easy-Groove Factory in LA. It was there they recorded their newest full length Blues Like Sandpaper | Rocksteady Like Dirt featuring members of The Delirians, Matamoska and Sammy Kay.
