Welcome to our 100th issue of Irish Roots magazine. We are truly delighted to have reached this significant milestone, however we certainly cannot take all the credit for getting Irish Roots thus far! Irish Roots was founded by Tony and Angela McCarthy in 1992 and has been published quarterly ever since. We extend our good wishes and thanks to the former founders for bringing this much loved publication into being. Tony stated in his first editorial that ‘Our main concern is to popularise genealogy by providing information on the subject in an interesting and entertaining way. Irish Roots proposes to be more than a magazine for the family history enthusiast. It is aimed at all those, at home and abroad, who wish to know about and to identify themselves with the positive aspects of their Irish heritage’. I hope that my daughter Julie and I have managed to successfully continue the focus of such a worthwhile and valuable endeavour. We are very fortunate and extremely grateful to have so many fine contributors work with us currently and over the years to bring Irish Roots magazine to this point. We must particularly thank Jennifer Harrison who has written for 99 of the 100 issues – a truly remarkable feat indeed! We are delighted to have Jennifer continue to bring us more delightful pieces of the Irish Australasian ancestral jigsaw each quarter. It is obviously not possible to list all our contributors who have brought us so many thought provoking, witty, informative and educational articles over the years but know that we are eternally thankful to you all. We would also like to acknowledge our advertisers, printers, distributors and all who have played a role in helping us along the way. Most importantly of all we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to you, our readers, who have continued to support us, (many all the way from issue one) to our new print and digital subscribers who continue to help our publication go from strength to strength. In the spirit of gratitude we would like to look beyond ourselves and pay tribute to everyone involved in Irish genealogical research in Ireland and across the globe, as volunteers, state sponsored bodies, non-profit organisations or commercial ventures. Whatever umbrella we stand under, we all share the common goal, to help those who yearn to discover their Irish Roots to reach that pot of family history gold at the end of the genealogical rainbow. At this time of good will and glad tidings, we raise a celebratory glass to salute you all! Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Daoibh.
