Director’s Cut MFM’s Style Director DANIEL RHONE highlights some of his favourite pieces available right now.

2) Kite Broadwick Glasses: £95.00

These preppy frames from British eyewear brand Kite come in four different options but my favourite is in the form of the Caramel Havana.

3) Scarosso Beccaria Monk Strap Shoes: £189.00 1) A Sauvage ID Bangle, £290, A. Sauvage

I’ve been a fan of Adrien Sauvage’s style since he hit the scene a few years ago. He is the epitome of Cool. His new jewellery range designed by Hannah Warner matches up to that statement.

The single monk strap is the formal shoe of the season after the popularity of the double monk over the last few seasons. Scarosso’s beautifully sleek Italian crafted design and Bordeaux colouring is a slight to behold.

4) Antoni Manuel Document Holder: £200.00 This slim line brown croc leather document holder is the essential accessory you want to be carrying from meeting to meeting. Antoni Manuel’s designs are catered for the ‘city dweller’.

5) Cobra & Bellamy Leather Strap Watch: £115.00

Cobra and Bellamy’s Art Deco 1930s inspired time piece is as refined as it comes. The streamlined face which has a 21ct gold plated body comes with a leather or silver bracelet strap.

6) Carhartt WIP X Neighbourhood Hat: £36.00

Carhartt’s collaboration with Neighbourhood see’s the streetwear brands form and create a slick capsule collection.

7) Alpha industries X Dr Martens Bomber Jacket: £125.00

The new collaboration between Dr Martens and Alpha Industries sees the creation of ‘The Spirit of 69’ MA-1 Bomber Jacket’. A look that was synonymous with that time period, the bomber’s come in black or oxblood. September 2014 www.mensfashionmagazine.coM

STYLE ANALYSIS

DAVID GANDY Most people will recognise David Gandy and his white swimming trunks from Dolce & Gabbana’s light blue ad campaign but this super model from Essex is flying the flag for British fashion and fast becoming a style icon in the making. Gandy is a male super model that looks healthy and has an athletic physique in a fashion world that is dominated by ultra-skinny male models. A rarity indeed. David has been modelling for over 10 years and has been a firm favourite with Dolce & Gabbana where he has fronted the Sicilian duos shows and campaigns season after season. He is valued in such high regard by Dolce & Gabbana that in September 2011 they released a book in tribute to the model with photographs from shoots and campaigns by industry greats such as Testino, Klein and Vivanco. David’s style came on to my radar a few years ago and it has a major hint of a throwback to the classic style icons of yester-year such as Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, Paul Newman and James Dean. Now apart from the obvious (David’s god-like good looks) his style has real classic detailing and tradition to it for instance, rolling the sleeves up on his flying jacket and tucking in his knitwear or tshirt. You can also see Italian influences that cross over in to his style when dressing as he wears tailored jackets with low-line crew neck or V-neck tees and unbuttoned shirts. He demonstrates a real masculine and effortless statement of style but keeps in range of a disciplined classic nature. Mr Gandy is also a great advert for British tailoring and for how men should wear a suit. He does this with real variation and effortless style as he demonstrates how you can mix up your formal look. 26 www.mensfashionmagazine.cOM September 2014

For example throwing smart denim with a cardigan in to dress down a formal look but still keeping it sharp and my personal favourite, wearing a low-line crew neck t-shirt with a three piece suit. David’s style oozes tradition and elegance but it also seems that it's built from a uniformed staple wardrobe. His idea of dress down which for many would be a smart casual look (crisp white t-shirt, faded straight denim, cream shawl cardigan and brown lace ups) and apart from the gym he never steps out in trainers which shows a classy throwback ideal. He is also stepping outside the box and some might say taking risks with his style for example at the very first London Collections: Mens he wore a “Gatsby” inspired pair of wide leg herringbone trousers with matching jacket and waistcoat plus a beautiful double breasted tan overcoat. Mr Gandy is also doing his bit for the British fashion industry with being on the British fashion council committee with industry heavy weights such as Tom Ford, Harold Tillman and Richard James. He is also an ambassador for London Collections: Men which thrives every season with Gandy right behind the three day showcase that shows off our menswear talent. David Gandy is a modern day British style icon that shows how you take inspiration from classic and traditional menswear and tailor around your own personality and modern day environment. He also embodies true and old-fashioned values with a real modest and humble exterior for which a lot of men could learn from. He is not only a stylish man he is also the perfect example of the modern gentleman. In Edition 5 of MFM we will be taking an exclusive look at David Gandy’s new underwear collaboration with Marks & Spencer and have an exclusive interview with the man himself.

DRESSING DOWN TAILORING Gandy is an expert at being able to dress down his tailored outfit without compromising his level of style. Here he is dressing down a cream doublebreasted jacket with a dark lowline crew neck t-shirt; a particular favourite of David's.

A MODERN TAKE ON A CLASSIC David Gandy's style is based around traditional style with a modern approach. This is a perfect example of where Gandy pairs a beautiful golden suede-riding jacket with a dark t-shirt and trouser that shows contrast and tonal blend.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

1+

THE MODERN GENTLEMAN David always looks immaculate in a suit. Whether he is in a full three-piece spread or breaking up his formal attire into separates he is the epitome of a modern gentleman. One of David's key strengths of his formal dress is that he keeps it simple and doesn't over accessorise or complicate his outfits.

This look was from a couple of seasons ago at London Collections: Men where Gandy wore a wide leg herringbone wool trouser with turn up that he found in a vintage store. If you look at the wider stance the menswear elite have taken on the catwalk for AW14 notice the fuller shape trouser.
