RUTLAND & STAMFORD Five local wedding suppliers are delighted to have been recognised in the Wedding Industry Awards 2021 following a terrible year for the industry. TWIA is the only regional and national client voted awards in the wedding industry and it was set up to recognise excellent wedding suppliers and to help couples find the best suppliers. If the regional finalists are successful in their category, they earn a place in the national finals too. n

Bourne to be mild: Tai Chi Ray’s mindful meditations... BOURNE Kind-hearted Tai Chi teacher Ray Pawlett is offering free meditation sessions online during lockdown and over Christmas to help people to retain a healthy body and achieve a healthier, calmer mind, too. RUTLAND Most youngsters these days seem to covet hot hatchbacks with loud exhausts... but not motoring journalist Cormac Boylan. Despite being just 20 years of age, Cormac has purchased his first Rolls Royce, a 1989 Silver Spirit, for the princely price of £4,000! Cormac has already worked for What Car? and Autocar and as a local radio DJ, and is keen to pursue a career as a motoring journalist. “I took mum to Aldi, but it was quite tricky to park because it’s so big,” says Cormac. “I also went through a McDonalds drive-thru... and people were taking photos!” n

Happily Ever After
STAMFORD Kind-hearted children at Stamford’s Malcolm Sargent Primary School recently raised £1,250 for two cancer charities; Wear It Pink, which funds research into breast cancer, and Macmillan Cancer Support. The pupils held a Think Pink day and dressed up to support the charities. n

LIFTING THE SPIRITS AT FARM A new microdistillery has set up shop during lockdown, based at Sacrewell Farm near Stamford. Enthusiasts Leigh Taylor and John Morris set up Nene Valley Spirits and will open the business as Pride goes to press with two gins – Ermine Street and Colibria – designed to celebrate the area’s Roman heritage and Leigh’s Latin American travels. Ermine will utilise lemon and rosemary among its botanicals whilst Colibri will feature tonka beans and Brazil nuts.
