4 Large Sterling Silver Bowl, Carl Poul PETERSEN A very good and large 20th century sterling silver bowl by Carl Poul Petersen bowl, showing a subtle planished surface sided by organic handles, measuring 3.75” high at the handles x 10” diameter across the handles. Weight, 413 grams. Note: Carl Poul Petersen (b. Denmark 1895 – d. Canada 1977) was a Master Silversmith who apprenticed with Georg Jensen in Copenhagen from 1908-1913. He immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1929, and began working with Birks Ltd. He then later opened his own shop in Montreal in 1944. Carl Poul Petersen remains one of Canada’s most celebrated silversmiths whose work is sought out by collectors worldwide, with examples of his work in the permanent Collection at the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa. 5 Arts & Crafts Metal Bookends, Paul Beau & Co. A very good pair of early 20th century Arts & Crafts mixed metal bookends by Paul Beau & Co. Montreal circa 1920. The flattened steel bodies are decorated with embossed organic inspired brass panels in low relief, both signed with stamped seal. Minor loss to the fruit. Dimensions, 5.25” high x 4.75” wide. Daniel Barkley was born in Montreal in 1962. Barkley holds a Masters in Fine Arts from Concordia University. 191 Robert LAWRENCE (1933-2003) South African A large and extremely animated, limited edition bronze group titled ‘GAME RANGER’, by South African sculptor Robert Lawrence (1933-1003). Depicting the real life documented account of a lion attack on one of Kruger Parks’ first game rangers- Harry Wolhuter, who was attacked by 2 lions while patrolling on horseback in 1904. Titled, signed and numbered 1/20, dated 1999. Dimensions, 16” high x 28” wide. Note from the consignor’s archives: Robert Lawrence’s father’s Godfather, a well revered turn of the century ranger (in South Africa) named Harry Wholuter, was attacked on his horse by 2 massive male lions. He survived by killing one of them with his bare hands and small hunting knife, while the other lion focused on his horse.
