FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the latest edition of Farms & Farm Machinery When Farms & Farm Machinery had its relaunch earlier this year, one of our goals was to produce articles that helped farmers to get the most out of both their land and people. Who better to provide this advice than farmers themselves? We have put plenty of time and attention into bringing you case studies of Australian farmers and contractors who are using the machinery we talk about, and showcasing the real-world, practical benefits these can provide. The first example in this edition is with a South Australian hobby farmer who has found a new Antonio Carraro tractor is the perfect middle ground for everything he needs while reviving an old farm in need of some attention. Continuing in the tractor space, we hear from a New South Wales farmer whose McCormick tractor is bringing plenty of joy back to the everyday grind. Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker is proving a gamechanger for a NSW-based hay contractor, and we hear about why this workhorse will be his next choice when it is time to upgrade. There is the story of another NSW farmer, whose use of a Hustler Equipment bale cutter has brought many benefits. We check out Entegra’s Taperflow guttering system. This has made a huge difference for a couple of Victorian farmers thanks to its ability to withstand heavy downpours and keep hay dry – we show you how. There is a spotlight on Victorian dealership Farm & Diesel, as we hear how Dieci telehandlers – and their
4
Farms & Farm Machinery
relationship with Dieci Australia – continues to help the business to thrive. We also look inside another Victorian business – BYPY Transmissions – and discover how the team is keeping farmers functioning at harvest time, thanks to its strong supply and delivery of parts. There is plenty of focus on individual products as well. JSG Industrial Systems’ new SKF Lincoln Automatic Electric Cartridge Pump, Lemken’s selection of ploughs and JCB’s powerful 560-80 telehandler are just a few of these. We also highlight community organisations who have received grants from Nutrien Ag Solutions. While many of Australia’s field days are starting to wind down for the year, attention is turning overseas. Locally, Farms & Farm Machinery attended the Elmore Field Days last month and we have brought you coverage from that, while our European correspondent has previewed this month’s Agritechnica in Germany. This is sure to bring plenty of major product releases, and as per usual we will bring these to you – all to help maximise the potential of Australian farms. Happy reading!

INDUSTRY NEWS
Despite an expected drop this year, canola production is tipped to remain higher than average
Mixed bag Australia’s total winter crop is tipped to return to near-average levels following last year’s record high, but good prices should provide a silver lining Rabobank says a “more modest” winter crop harvest is expected after three consecutive strong years, including a record high last season. The agribank has tipped a total winter crop of 48.72 million tonnes, down on last year’s record-breaking 63.85 million tonnes, in its 2023-24 Australian Winter Crop Forecast. This figure would still represent a total national output close to the five-year average, and exceeding two years (2018-19 and 2020-21), while the reduction in output would be slightly offset by good prices. Drier weather conditions across many cropping regions, combined with the El Niño outlook, means winter crop production is expected to decline across all states – except for Victoria, where production was down significantly last year due to floods. These dry conditions will push local prices above those globally for wheat and
barley, helping to reach a “positive basis” for growers, according to report co-author and RaboResearch analyst Edward McGeoch. Global export demand should also help canola prices, he adds. Australia’s wheat production is tipped to fall 26 per cent compared to last season, with a total production forecast of 26.9 million tonnes. Barley is expected to decline 18 per cent to 11.91 million tonnes, while the canola forecast is for a 24 per cent drop on last year to 5.77 million tonnes. In canola’s case, the predicted figure would still remain 20 per cent above the five-year average. The biggest declines in total grain and oilseed production are expected in Queensland and Western Australia, with drops of 36 per cent and 35 per cent respectively being forecast in the report. The overall production drop will naturally impact exports, however Rabobank’s
Rabobank analyst and report co-author Edward McGeoch
report says there are several silver linings. “We are however still well positioned to support global wheat needs, while also seeing supportive factors for canola and barley exports. Reductions in global production of barley and canola are supporting export demand to key markets,” McGeoch says. “The reduced supply outlook is supporting local prices, as we have domestic consumption and export competition.” Dry conditions in Canada and Argentina are also putting pressure on global supply, and a boost to global grain prices is expected by the end of this year, Rabobank says. A win for local growers is an expected drop in farm input costs, excluding diesel. “ The prices farmers will have here, when they procure their inputs by early 2024, will be the ones that are seen globally in Q3 and Q4 this year, which are tracking at much lower levels than the same period in 2022,” Rabobank’s Vitor Pistoia says.
Pest control Trellis Data, along with the Australian government, has completed a pilot trial of its Biosecurity Automated Threat Detection System A trial of artificial intelligence (AI) biosecurity screening to safeguard Australia’s $90 billion agriculture sector from exotic pests has shown some potential for the technology. The federal agriculture department commissioned Trellis Data to develop an AI-based surveillance system capable of scanning all incoming shipping containers in a bid to protect Australia’s agriculture sector from the threats of pests introduced through the country’s ports. Using the Trellis Intelligence Platform, Trellis Data created Object Detection Models and integrated them with camera management technology to create its Biosecurity Automated Threat Detection System (BATDS). Under the trial, 1,300 high-risk containers were manually inspected by the department and the results were compared against the detections identified by the BATDS system. Initially trained using Trellis Data’s
6

synthetic generation technology, the AI model evolved over the course of the trial to identify about 58 per cent of the container anomalies identified through manual inspection, and 63 per cent of the soil detections during the trial’s first reporting period. “We believe this is a first step towards integrating AI as part of the Government’s tool kit of surveillance options,” Trellis’ communications head Tim McLaren says. “Expanded versions of this technology also have far-reaching benefits for the Australian economy beyond biosecurity, including protection of goods, identification of illegal goods, and general border protection.” To ensure comprehensive tracking of all detections, a separate model was trained to read container IDs on challenging surfaces. The system design allowed wireless streaming of all captured images from the cameras to servers, facilitating the seamless movement of the highly

mobile cranes throughout the port. “This pilot project has been a resounding success, showcasing the immense potential of our AI-driven system in enhancing biosecurity screening at scale,” McLaren says. “We have gained invaluable insights and lessons from this trial, and now it’s time to take what we have learned and implement it on a larger scale. However, to achieve faster and higher-quality image processing and deliver even more precise detections, we will require sufficient funding for the next phase.”

Deakin University researcher Mariah Sampson
Natural solution Deakin University reseachers have found a mix of algae and amphibious grass from a Victorian waterway has reduced methane production by up to 24 per cent A chance conversation with a landholder interested in the methane-reducing properties of red seaweed led aquatic ecologist professor Rebecca Lester and her team to the discovery. The research team was led by Deakin University’s centre for regional and rural futures and funded by AgriFutures Australia. “Asparagopsis is amazingly effective and has a lot of potential,” Lester says. “But it also has challenges, such as the issues surrounding growing something offshore in high energy coastlines like ours, the amount you need to grow to make it a viable and scalable source of feed for live-
stock and its susceptibility to disease. “The other major challenge is its efficacy degrades through time. If you don’t get it into cattle within some number of months, the impact that it has declines because the active ingredient is not a stable one in the long term.” Professor Lester and a team that included chemists, biochemists and animal nutrition experts, assisted by the expertise in measuring methane emissions at University of Western Australia, set about finding if there were freshwater alternatives, and started by collecting samples from waterways in Victoria’s Barwon River
catchment. “We were looking for species that were already widespread, native and not likely to be toxic or become environmental weeds – we don’t want to create more problems than we solve,” Lester says. The team collected two different samples, a natural mix of algae - as it does not grow in a monoculture in the wild - and the amphibious grass Montia australasica. When fermented by rumen microbes in vitro, testing showed the algal mix reduced methane production by 24 per cent at a 20 per cent dose, and Montia australasica reduced methane production by 21 per cent, at a 50 per cent dose. “We just collected that little Montia plant from the side of a stream. If you grew it under particular conditions, then you might have a much bigger impact,” Lester says. “We just want to create options for farmers and add to the range of ways that people can potentially reduce their emissions. “So, they might be able to plant this plant in their dam and then go through and harvest it and feed it to their cattle and they avoid another input cost if they were purchasing a product like Asparagopsis.”
Varroa mite is a major threat to honey bees
Mite change Australia has officially changed its approach to the damaging Varroa mite, moving from an eradication policy to management More than a year after Varroa mite was first detected in Australia, the National Management Group (NMG) has declared that eradication is no longer possible. Varroa mite is described as the most
8

serious threat to honey bees globally and one which could cost the nation’s honey industry $70 million per year. It was first detected in sentinel hives in New South Wales last year and was then successfully removed from the state, before later returning. Australia had previously been the only continent free from Varroa mite. The NMG says several factors have contributed to the eradication plans not being successful. Non-compliance with NSW movement orders and mandatory hive testing by some in the industry, plus evidence of illegal movement of bees, have resulted in Varroa mite spreading. The recent spike in new detections also made the NMG realise Varroa mite is both more widespread and present for longer than previously thought, with new detections and generation in an area greater than 16,000sqm stretching resources to their limit. “There is still lots industry can do to contain and slow the spread of Varroa mite, which is why NSW will operate under an interim management strategy until the
National Management Plan for Transition to Management is agreed upon,” Australian Honey Bee Industry Council (AHBIC) CEO Danny Le Feuvre says. “At the same time, AHBIC will continue to work with NMG to ensure any support measures offered to beekeepers are fit for purpose.” The National Farmers Federation’s Horticulture Council has urged the federal government to conclude a review into the legality of levying containerised cargo by the end of this year, as this charge could help to increase biosecurity funding. “The Varroa Mite cat is now out of the bag in Australia, and there’s no putting it back in,” council chairman Jolyon Burnett says. “This is devastating for the apiarists who are now faced with living with a pest that has fundamentally changed the beekeeping industry wherever it has been endemic overseas.” NSW agriculture minister Tara Moriarty says the priority is to communicate with industry stakeholders and to quickly respond to the policy transition.

HarvestCalc developer Rod Gribble
An Australian-designed app can help farmers find the ‘sweet spot’ between combine harvester efficiency and product loss Farmers can calculate the ‘sweet spot’ from grain loss against operating costs to maximise their overall yields using an app designed by a New South Wales harvesting contractor. HarvestCalc was developed by Rod Gribble from an idea which dates back almost 15 years and allows farmers to determine the overall economic impact of grain losses incurred during the harvesting process. “Every combine harvester loses some grain within the machine itself or along the front,” Gribble says. “Machine losses of about one per cent for cereals and about 2.5 to 3 per cent in canola are generally regarded as acceptable. Another one or two per cent can be lost along the front and even more in pulse crops. “As a rule of thumb, grain loss increases with throughput, operating speed and
crop yield – and that’s going to costs you money. “Alternatively, if you go slower, grain loss will decrease but your harvesting costs are going to increase. “HarvestCalc gives you the ability to monitor grain loss, calculate its economic impact and then adjust the settings of your combine harvester with confidence. “The goal is to determine the ‘sweet spot’ between harvesting efficiency and productivity under your conditions.” The app, which does not require mobile phone network connectivity to operate, firstly involves operators selecting the make and model of their combine harvester, including head width, separator width and operating cost per hour. The practical process involved while in the field, Gribble says, will then automatically calculate grain loss expressed as a percentage of yield or either dollars or

kilograms per hectare, and will be compared to harvesting costs. HarvestCalc, which has been downloaded more than 1,300 times, is available through the App Store and Gribble says it will “pay for itself easily in 30 minutes”.

Hardi Australia’s newest sprayer – the Saritor 7000 – has been a gamechanger since its launch – and the company’s future looks equally exciting Words Lincoln Bertelli
There is an adage that if you are not moving forwards, then you are moving backwards. Having launched a sprayer that combines “everything we’ve learned”, and with work underway to become an international Centre of Excellence, nobody could ever accuse Hardi Australia of doing anything other than move forwards. Hardi’s pride and joy is the Saritor 7000 Mallee edition, which was first launched last year and which is now finding its way on to Australian farms. This 7000L self-propelled sprayer is packed with technology such as the Hardi Integrated Vehicle Experience (HIVE) control system concept, plus a range of nozzle technology options including both Hardi’s exclusive H-Select and its GeoSelect selective spraying system. Saritor is an Australian-designed machine for Australian conditions – built and designed with input from local farmers. All this work has not gone unrecognised, with Hardi Australia’s global parent company voting to develop a Centre of

Excellence in South Australia to further grow its engineering, design, and manufacturing capabilities for the local market. When the Saritor 7000 debuted last year, Hardi said it brought “everything we’ve learned about spray technology together into one machine”. The result is a self-propelled sprayer
Hardi’s Saritor 7000 Mallee edition
which stands out in many ways, not least for its sleek black design which differs to the reds and yellows usually seen on Hardi’s products. “Our first delivery of the machine was a couple of months ago and they’re coming out of the factory nicely now,” Hardi Australia’s national sales manager Zac Harnett says.
“We’ve drummed up a lot of support for the Saritor and found with machines really hitting farms over the last three months that a lot of new customers are looking at the product. “It’s a lot more user-friendly and it’s just much more intuitive without being complicated.” The clearest example of Hardi increasing the Saritor’s intuition without complicating the user experience comes via the HIVE concept. This advanced control system includes a completely remodelled armrest console with integrated dial and joystick interface, plus a cleverly positioned display that puts critical information at eye level. HIVE also extends to the Saritor’s filling station, with its new screen displaying clear filling information, plus a set of visual guides and videos designed to help new users become masters of filling the sprayer quickly and safely. “It gives users a better overview of what the machine is actually doing - what fluid function is selected, where fluid is coming from, where it’s running to, and whether it’s going out the nozzles or rinsing or chemical filling,” Hardi Australia’s Saritor product manager David Wooley says. “You want to design a sprayer that’s advanced and does all the things that it should, but you want to keep it simple to use. That’s our philosophy going forward.” The Saritor 7000’s official launch last year occurred during a showcase at the manufacturer’s Adelaide factory. At the previous year’s showcase, Hardi had introduced customers to its GeoSelect targeted spraying system. GeoSelect, which is a decoupled system that uses drone mapping for weeds and requires minimal on-boom hardware, is a feature of the new Saritor as one of four nozzle technology options available to users. It has been a popular choice too, with an estimated 50 per cent of sprayers leaving Hardi’s factory with GeoSelect fitted. “GeoSelect is integrating nicely into the machine, it’s not a bolt-on afterthought,” Wooley says. “Everything we’ve designed has been with the mindset of people going down the path of a decoupled spot spraying system.” The Saritor gives customers plenty of nozzle choice, and Wooley says the most popular choice is Hardi’s exclusive H-Select technology. Designed to make large-scale operations a breeze, H-Select coordinates up to four different nozzles at each nozzle body to continually maintain the required target rate across the whole boom.
GeoSelect is one of the nozzle technologies available
Hardi says this offers a target rate accuracy of 90 per cent or better over the entire paddock - eliminating patches of over or under-dosage. “The system will switch between nozzles as required to meet the desired rate per hectare, droplet size required by the end user, or what the chemical requirements are,” Wooley says. “It will switch between any combination of those four nozzles and means you always have the right nozzle for the job, so you’re not trying to compensate through speed or pressure to get the desired outcome. “We want technological advances that make the application better and more precise, but this has also made it simpler for the user as well. “They don’t have to think as much about what nozzle they’re going to physically change to on the machine - the machine is going to do that for them.” Hardi’s other nozzle technology options on the Saritor 7000 are Triple Tier 12 and ActivAir. Triple Tier 12 is a rapid nozzle switching technology which the manufacturer says
adjusts the spray rate instantly and accurately without affecting the fluid velocity or the droplet size. It features two parallel lines of nozzles that triple a user’s spraying options by allowing them to select either nozzle individually, or both together. The ActivAir on-off system uses Saritor’s onboard air supply to instantly open and close nozzles on demand, with no dripping. A fluid recirculation system maintains pressure when nozzles are off, ensuring the nozzles start spraying at the correct rate as soon as they are activated. The Saritor 7000 has also been designed and built at Hardi’s 10-hectare manufacturing facility in the Adelaide suburb of Cavan. This means end-users are getting a locally built machine that can handle Australia’s unique conditions, and Harnett believes this has been a major drawcard. “It’s not a European-centric machine in the slightest,” he says. “This was developed in Australia and developed with a lot of hands-on sugges-

tions from Australian farmers. “I think the product suiting the Australian market is one of the first buying criteria for farmers, as they want to see proven reliance in Australian conditions. “Hardi actively thinking about the Australian farmer when we were designing the product is a big point too, and is something I think we’ve done well with this unit.” Some of the Australian-focused design features, Harnett says, include a lot of the Saritor’s automated fuel options such as the ability to batch fuel, plus a single button fold which he says helps with the Australian boom sizes. While Hardi is a global company that originates from Denmark, the work being done in Adelaide has caught the international eye – and this will lead to exciting changes for Hardi Australia. Earlier this year, Hardi’s parent company Exel Industries agreed that Hardi Australia “will move toward ground up design, development and manufacture of a specialist range of broadacre self-propelled sprayers” from its Adelaide site.
This will allow Hardi Australia to develop a Centre of Excellence “for the design and manufacture of cutting edge broadacre self-propelled crop protection sprayers, specifically for the Australian market.” With this will come a major boost to local employment, with the likes of engineers, electronic specialists and manufacturing personnel to swell Hardi Australia’s staff numbers beyond its current figure of about 130. “We’re going to see a lot more innovation and production coming out of the Australian facility,” Wooley says. “For a long time, Hardi International has provided a lot of our engineering expertise and production in terms of self-propelled sprayers. “Over the last five or six years we’ve done a lot more in-house in Australia, and we’ve seen a marked improvement in our products by being more Australianised and built in Adelaide. “We’ve built the machines for the conditions, so by now being a Centre of Excellence for sprayers it gives us a bit
The HIVE system gives users access to a wealth of information
more breadth for our engineering and production capacities to build a sprayer that’s uniquely Australian.” When you consider that Hardi’s Saritor already combines the best of what the manufacturer has learned over time - and knowing that experience and expertise is going to be turbocharged – it is exciting to consider what the future holds for Australian sprayer buyers. While it remains to be seen just how excellent the next generation of sprayers from Hardi’s Australian Centre of Excellence will be, and what innovations they will include, one thing can be said with absolute certainty – Hardi Australia is definitely not moving backwards. Hardi says the Saritor will improve the spraying experience

Farmers can trust their data is being used safely from certified sources
Clean code Australia’s Farm Data Code has taken a significant step forward, with the first products now officially certified Pairtree Intelligence, FarmSimple, and Western Australia’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have all been certified under the new Farm Data Code. The code, which is voluntary, has been developed by the National Farmers Federation in consultation with industry and aims to “inform the data management policies of product and service providers who manage data on behalf of farmers.” The data code’s first draft was published in 2020. It has since been refined and companies can now apply for certification. NFF vice-president and certification
panel chair David Jochinke says the code will give farmers a yardstick when evaluating how their on-farm data will be used. “Data about soils, yields and finances are part of modern farming,” Jochinke says. “Farmers need to know and trust their data is secure, not being shared or sold to third parties, and they have control of it. “The code provides a publicly-available audit report for each product that has been assessed against the code’s six principles – transparency, fairness, control, portability, security and compliance. “It’s important to know where in the world is our farm data being stored and
is it secure, is it being de-identified, what risks are there, and what value do we get from giving a company our farm data.” Pairtree Intelligence CEO Hamish Munro, who is also a fifth-generation farmer, says he understands the suspicion from farmers around data usage and believes it was important to become certified. “We aggregate all the data about a farm from multiple sources, so our clients need to trust us,” he says. “The code is a welcome game changer because it gives reassurance to the farmers through an independent certification process developed by industry.” The WA department’s new product – the eConnect Extrata Data Sharing Platform – is also now certified under the NFF’s code. “Being a new platform, it was imperative to get it certified so farmers know they can trust it,” the department’s business development and natural capital lead Tom Picton-Warlow says. Farmers can look for the certification mark and can access the audit report for each certified product online at www. nff.org.au/programs/australian-farm-data-code.
The number of women and girls in Australian agriculture has increased
Changing face A Westpac report highlights the generational change that has seen a major increase in younger people entering the agricultural industry A new generation is changing the face of Australia’s agriculture industry with a growing number of young women and people from diverse cultural backgrounds entering the industry.

In collaboration with AgriFutures, Westpac’s analysis of ABS census data shows the number of young somen working in agriculture has significantly increased – up 42 per cent compared to 15 years ago in the 25 to 34-year-old age group. They also make up nearly half of bachelor’s degree-qualified workers, despite only representing one third of this age group. “Agriculture is a significant contributor to our national economy and it is vital that we continue to grow and attract a pipeline of talent to this important industry,” Westpac’s national general manager of regional commercial and agribusiness Peta Ward says. “The jobs available in agriculture today have never been more interesting or more diverse, with broader appeal to a younger generation who are drawn by the increasing role of technology and innovation, a greater focus on sustainability, new scientific advancements and more.” This generation is also surveyed to be more culturally diverse with over half of agriculture workers aged 20 to 39 having one or more parents born overseas,
Westpac’s Peta Ward
compared to only 20 per cent for 60 to 69-year-old workers. “This is an exciting time for the industry and it’s important that we continue the momentum to fully realise this opportunity,” Ward says. “Agriculture related degrees and skillsbased training courses provide an essential avenue to engage with young people and set them up for a long and successful career in the industry, along with industry-based programs.” Westpac also surveyed a group of more than 30 past and present participants in the Horizon scholarship program to better understand the current opportunities and challenges from the industry’s emerging leaders.

A compact and automatic pump that allows for no-fuss lubrication is the latest addition to JSG Industrial Systems’ offering Simplicity and compactness are described as the standout features of the SKF Lincoln AECP (Automatic Electric Cartridge Pump). The pump, which is designed for smaller tractors and telehandlers, was released by SKF in the United States earlier this year and is now available to the local market through JSG Industrial Systems. The AECP can be placed directly on a machine and lubricates progressively throughout the day while the machine is in motion, with the only ongoing requirement being for a farmer to replace the grease cartridge when empty. “The biggest benefit for farmers is they have something that is compact, easy to use, and saves a lot of preventative maintenance on their machines,” JSG’s lubrication Product Sales Manager Branco Zivic says. “The AECP can be run through a controller or an on-off switch in the cab, and there’s no need to do bulk filling on the unit itself. “It’s all to do with replacing grease cartridges. A lot of farmers have a grease gun, so they also have grease cartridges, which they can fit to the pump unit.” The AECP is designed to work with standard 400g grease cartridges, ensuring it functions seamlessly with readily available equipment. There is also a built-in visual, low-level sensor which provides an early warning to replace the cartridge before it becomes empty. The AECP has a 50 per cent smaller

footprint than standard reservoir pumps, JSG says, which makes it ideal for compact machine applications. Zivic says the pump works best on
smaller machinery that has a maximum of about 12 grease points, such as small tractors, telehandlers, excavators and skid steers. Within this market though, he says the AECP excels for its ability to fit compactly and discreetly onto a machine. “It’s so small that you easily place it somewhere, whereas you can’t with a lot of the other units because they are just too big to fit on a machine,” Zivic says. “You need to put these things somewhere and a lot of times you can’t add brackets, or things move, or you’ve got hatches where they open up - so you can’t actually install those type of pumps in those situations. “This pump can fit in a lot of places that you wouldn’t fit necessarily one of the other pumps. “Once you fit it and design a system to suit that machine, then the simplicity of it works nicely.” In addition to its size benefits, the AECP can also withstand robust conditions thanks to its machined and anodised body, making it damage and corrosion resistant. It has a wide operating temperature range of between -40 and 65 degrees Celsius, ensuring it can withstand Australia’s harsh conditions. Designed to operate for one minute every hour, and therefore provide small amounts of grease progressively throughout the day, the AECP has an

estimated lifespan of 5,000 machine operation hours. Not only does this progressive lubrication work more efficiently than a one-off dose of grease, but it also means no grease points will be missed – especially those which might be trickier to access.
“Most of the time, when a farmer is greasing the machine at the beginning or end of the day, they might be in a rush and miss a lot of these points or not do them at all,” Zivic says. “This automatic pump is about the convenience more than anything else. It’s
quick, it’s ready, it’s easy to put a new cartridge into, it’s robust and it’s weatherproof. “It can handle Australian environments very well.” JSG Industrial Systems can be contacted at www.jsgindustrial.com

Problem solver Entegra’s patented Taperflow guttering system has eliminated the chance of storm damage to hay sheds for Australian farmers To say water is crucial to life would be a major understatement, and to describe water as being crucial to Australian agriculture would be a similar understatement. Not enough water, or too much water at once - the elixir of life can be just as damaging through its presence as it can through its absence. Australian farmers rely on their sheds for the storage of both machinery and products such as hay. These sheds are always exposed to the elements, and not all sheds can withstand the impact of a severe storm without dam-
aging either the shed itself or the valuable contents inside. One way in which farmers can be assured of their shed’s strength and security is by having it fitted with Entegra Signature Structures’ patented Taperflow guttering system. This system is delivering results for farmers such as Victorian Greg Kennedy, who stores up to 30,000 and 40,000 bales of hay each year, the majority of which is exported. Keeping this hay dry and protected is crucial to his business’ success, and a recent storm showcased the value of Ente-

gra’s Taperflow system perfectly. “The other day we had rain of probably 30mm in 10 minutes and it was the only shed on the farm where the guttering system never overflowed,” he says. “The best thing about our Entegra shed is the guttering system. “We have a lot of trouble with the ground moving here, so all our traditional PVC pipes tend to split a lot. “This leads to water running into hay, which of course is a bad thing in our industry, so we’ve got this tapered gutter. “We’re going to have a go this year at another Entegra shed because we’re happy with what we’re doing.” Taperflow has been on the market for approximately three years and is patented by Entegra Signature Structures. Entegra’s agriculture shed designer Aston Kirk says while a standard gutter can handle a ‘typical’ rainfall day effectively, it is during storms that Taperflow excels. Kirk describes Taperflow as a “simple but effective” patent which was designed to solve the problem of draining a shed to one end, and also mitigating the chance of overflow. “As you’re going from point A to point B, the amount of water you’re taking off is increasing, hence you need to increase the capacity of your gutter system,” he says. “Therein became the question of ‘how do we increase the capacity of the gutter system?’ We taper it. Typically, we adapt different widths to be suited to the volume of rainfall capture with a certain amount of fall in it per metre and that will increase the longer the shed is.
“What that’s doing is allowing the gutter to run a lot faster as it’s increasing the capacity. “When it gets to the end of the gutter, there’s no real construction. It goes straight into a high-capacity rain head which creates a vortex, so to speak, with a single drainpipe. “This creates its own suction and helps to suck the gutters dry.” Another farmer whose operations have been changed thanks to Entegra’s Taperflow is Sam Parker. Based in northwest Victoria, Parker has diversified his business from grains into hay. Parker echoes Kennedy’s sentiments about the Taperflow’s ability to withstand heavy rains. “We get a lot of heavy downpours in summer and it will handle it, whereas my other sheds with the PVC will get a lot of overflowing. We don’t get that with this,” he says. “I’ve had a few different sheds, and the quality of finish in this one is really good. I love the galvanised channels, RHS and the nice finish with the Colorbond gutters.” His Entegra shed has replaced hay caps, and the confidence Parker has in the shed is enabling him to maximise returns by selling his hay at a time which suits him. “Now that I’ve got the shed I can choose my markets,” he says. “I know the hay I put in the shed is going to be the same when I pull it out. “I can either go export depending on quality, or the domestic job, and I can sell when I want.”
Parker dealt directly with Kirk during the selection and building processes and he says the experience was nothing but positive. “Aston really fine-tuned our selection process of what we needed,” Parker says. “The whole way through the process of selecting the shed to building the shed and afterwards with any little problems, he was always happy to help us out. “If I was going to build another shed, it would have to be with Entegra.” Kirk says Entegra aims to go above and beyond for its customers, offering advice about how to maximise the effectiveness of the new shed. “We have a lot of process benefits with how we deliver our sheds, and we often assist clients with guidance on how to best set up their tank systems too,” he says. “It’s not part of the shed, but it’s more about how we can help the operation. “You have got this product to capture as much water as possible, so we suggest the size tank we think you should be putting in and where you should put it.” Water capture is another important aspect of the Taperflow system, which is set up to secure as much as possible for farmers. This can be used as clean water for spraying and is described by Kirk as a “secondary benefit” of the system. “We live in Australia, we might get 100mm of rain one year but how that falls one year can differ to the next,” he says. “It might be gradual, consistent falls one year, but the next year they might get that
in two storms that are very concentrated. “When that happens, if you don’t have a gutter that’s big enough to cope with it, you’re not going to capture and store as much rainfall as possible. “Your gutters are also cleaner with less chance of blocking up because it’s a wider gutter and the volume of water tends to push any debris out.” Kirk says other benefits of not having drainpipes are eliminating the chance of them breaking, and also potentially driving over underground pipes. Taperflow has been proven to withstand the extremities of Australian conditions. No matter how much rain might fall in one storm, Kirk says Taperflow is built to handle it. “It’s a big gutter and it holds a lot of weight. You can be getting over a tonne of water in a bay in some instances, so you need a decent bracket system,” he says. “Our brackets are fabricated and welded RHS brackets, and each of them are a different size as the gutter profile changes which shows the attention to detail. “We’ve got a very heavy bracket and your gutters will not fold.”
Taperflow is available through Entegra Signature Structures, which has its head office at 180 Karinie Street, Swan Hill, Victoria. The company also has offices in Queensland and Northern Territory and its product range can be viewed at www.entegra.com.au

Community engagement Nutrien Ag Solutions’ Community Grants Program has been announced, with several not-for-profit organisations receiving grants of up to $5,000 to support projects in regional Australia When talking with Nutrien Ag Solutions corporate affairs coordinator Mady Muirhead, a quote from American writer and teacher Margaret J. Wheatley immediately sprung to mind – “there is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” For the team at Nutrien, community support and investing in projects is the key to nationwide growth. “We have an incredibly diverse group of projects this year,” Muirhead says. “We’re seeing an interest in building organisational capacity, training volunteers and having resources on hand for community support.” Since 2021, Nutrien’s five-year program has invested $250,000 annually into grassroots projects from rural and regional Australian communities. “Over the past two years we’ve invested in 110 projects, with another 57 added to the pool this year,” Muirhead says. “Since the launch of the Community Grants program in 2021, Nutrien awarded over $750,000 in grants to rural and regional communities across Australia.” This program works alongside the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal – the only national foundation specifically focused on ensuring the social and economic strength of remote, rural and regional communities. “The success of agriculture and the wellbeing of regional Australia are inextricably linked,” Muirhead says. “Last year we saw many parts of our

country face environmental disasters on a significant scale, with many still facing recovery. “This placed significant unanticipated stress on grassroots organisations and groups that work tirelessly to support their local communities. “We are going further by investing in meaningful projects and supporting local grassroot organisations.” Through helping rural communities, the program aims to bring forward the potential nuggets of cultural gold that may have slipped through the cracks if not properly funded. In the past successful applicants have seen grant assistance with the installation of an Indigenous artwork and bush tucker garden in Queensland, contributions to a purpose-built beach ramp and wheelchairs in Tasmania, child protection workshops in Western Australia and the installation of solar power panels at the Cambrai Sports Club in South Australia. “We have thousands of employees living and working in rural and regional Australia, ingrained in their local communities,” Muirhead says. “They have a deep understanding of what makes a community thrive – and it’s all about the people. “We work in partnership with our communities to support them at a local level, in ways that best suit the individual needs of that community.” The list of this year’s successful applicants is:

FOR THE FARMER
Andrew Morris’ TTR 4400 HST can handle the steep slopes of his Adelaide Hills farm
Stable and able Antonio Carraro’s TTR 4400 HST is giving one Adelaide hobby farmer the versatility he needs to handle multiple tasks in tricky conditions – all without compromise Antonio Carraro tractors are regularly used in challenging environments both in Australia and around the world and are renowned for their unique characteristics in handling these with ease. One of the Italian manufacturer’s most popular models is the TTR 4400 HST, which is comfortable on steep hills and can breeze through the low and narrow rows found in the vineyard and orchard settings they are designed for. It is for this reason that Andrew Morris chose a TTR 4400 HST when he needed a new tractor to prepare his hobby farm in the Adelaide Hills earlier this year. With the versatility to handle a variety of tasks, his impressions have been nothing but positive. “It’s been easy to settle into. It’s stable, feels safe and a lot more comfortable to work in than what it’s replacing,” Morris says. “We’ve got an old crawler, and you can really only sit on that for about half an hour before you need to get off, whereas
you can sit comfortably on this for a long time.” The end goal for Morris is a mixed-use hobby farm with an oak orchard for truffles and an area for small livestock. He is currently in the process of slashing and rehabilitating an old farm that had been “let go” over the past 10 years and is overgrown with blackberries. Clearing land and fixing fences are among his main goals at present, which means he requires a tractor with some durability. In contrast though, a grassed area near the farmhouse means his tractor also needs to be delicate enough to drive over this without damaging the lawn. Antonio Carraro’s TTR 4400 HST has been the perfect middle ground. “The crawler is great and you can go into ridiculous places, but you can’t drive it over anything that’s going to be lawn, because it leaves holes in the ground from its tracks, and you also can’t stay on it for long,” Morris says. “This is in the middle, where I can go
into almost as many ridiculous areas, but can also mow lawn, and get around the orchard. “It will be good for when the truffles come, and when the oak trees are coming up I’ll be able to maintain that in between the rows. “It’s a pretty narrow machine, but also low as well, so you can get under branches once you prune them. “It’s also very stable on slopes. We’re in quite a hilly area and so that’s why I chose this tractor.” Another benefit of the TTR 4400 HST, Morris says, is its ability to handle a multitude of tasks thanks to the PTO shaft enabling easy switching of implements. “The other thing was being able to switch out a flail mower for a rotary hoe or a box blade,” he says. “We’ve got a flail mower on the front of this and you can just munch through all that overgrown blackberry and clear up fence lines.” Morris also praised Antonio Carraro Australia’s national sales manager Marco

FOR THE FARMER
Corra for his help during the sales process, even setting up a visit with an existing TTR 4400 HST user while Morris was in Victoria – an experience which enabled him to both see and test the tractor before purchase. The TTR 4400 HST is a 38hp (28kW) unit capable of producing 113Nm of torque, but the power specifications only tell part of the story. For starters, the tractor is reversible – allowing operators to simply rotate a turret and turn around 180 degrees in just a few seconds, which means operation with towed or front implements is equally easy. Like all Antonio Carraro tractors, the TTR 4400 HST is fitted with hydrostatic transmission – hence the HST at the end of its model name. This enables the tractor to operate at the same speed going either forward or in reverse. It offers a mechanical selector with three speed ranges, an independent twospeed PTO, and front and rear differential lock. Arguably the biggest standout feature, and what makes the tractor perfectly

The TTR 4400 HST is designed to work well on slopes
suited to hilly conditions such as Morris’ hobby farm, is the manufacturer’s patented Actio chassis. This greatly increases the tractor’s stability, and Corra says Australian customers often choose Antonio Carraro based on this feature. “On a tractor, normally you have a fixed chassis which sits on top of the axles,” Corra says.
“In our design, the axles go through the chassis, which brings a lower centre of gravity. “There is also an oscillation point, not articulation, which means that the front axle moves 15 degrees each side in comparison to the rear axle, or vice versa. “It creates better stability, and we have a lot of customers in Australia coming to us because of this stability.”
Antonio Carraro lab tests have shown that when fitted with a safety arch, the TTR 4400 HST can handle slopes of up to 43 degrees longitudinal while ascending or descending and up to 36 degrees while inclined either side. FOR THEAND PARTS OWNER MAINTENANCE
BYPY’s warehouse in Melbourne distributes products nationwide every day
Ever ready Quality parts from Bondioli & Pavesi which are ready for national distribution means BYPY Transmissions has harvest needs covered Harvest is a crucial time of year for farmers, and a time when many things can go wrong. Some of these factors are beyond any farmer’s control, but others – such as ensuring machines are ready to perform consistently with quality parts fitted before the rush – are easier to get right. BYPY Transmissions – the Australian distributor of Bondioli & Pavesi products – has all the PTO shafts, gearboxes, clutches and parts required to keep farmers moving at their busiest time. BYPY distributes products across the country from its national warehouse in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong and is equipped to help farmers with what they need when they need it most, not once the season is over. “We’re ready to facilitate harvest and hay requirements for the 2023-24 season,” BYPY spokesman Ashley Male says. “A lot of the time you find harvest and baling stock comes in dribs and drabs

through the season. We have it all here at the start of the season.” BYPY Transmissions does more than just supply parts, also offering customers the ability to have units tested and repaired among a full range of shaft services. “Obviously it’s not always cost-effective for people to send their PTO shafts from one side of the country to the other and back again, but we do a lot of local repairs,” Male says. “Clutch testing has become a big thing as machines are getting bigger. We can check and make sure the clutches are within specified limits and obviously repair as necessary.” The core of BYPY’s product range is Bondioli & Pavesi, which is an Italian manufacturer with more than 70 years of history as a company and which builds products which are designed for the long term. Male says this quality European man-
ufacturing has meant Bondioli & Pavesi’s presence has continued to increase inside machines from the likes of New Holland, Case IH and Kuhn. “There’s more and more of the Bondioli & Pavesi product coming through on some of the major equipment manufacturers’ machines,” he says. “They have used it for many decades, but a lot of the big implement brands out of Europe as well are increasingly using the Bondioli & Pavesi product. “That’s driving our demand and our need to carry more and more stock, because there’s simply more of it in the market.” Harvest time means a particular focus on balers, and BYPY is prepared for the demand in big baler shafts. “The big baler market is where I know there is a shortage in the market and we have it covered this season,” Male says. “For contractors and everyone with big balers, we have the big baler shaft alterna-
tive, which I think they will find more than up to the challenge of the equipment.” Male says lead times on stock are returning to pre-pandemic levels, which has helped BYPY to keep its products flowing into the country from Europe. This, of course, is only one part of the equation for a national distributor. The quantity of stock on hand becomes almost redundant if it cannot be efficiently distributed to farmers around Australia. An experienced, stable team at its national warehouse means BYPY Transmissions can send items around the country daily to keep farmers and contractors moving. “We provide customer service that I like to think is very responsive,” Male says. “We try and deal with every inquiry within a couple of hours, if applicable. “Sometimes it might take a couple of days of back-and-forth communication to get the right end result, but we try and resolve most enquiries within the first 24 hours, if not quicker. “Our stock levels allow us to pack and send most of the product daily and if we get the orders in by about 1pm, we can usually get it out that afternoon. “More often than not when you contact
us, you’re getting the same people. “We care about the end result that the farmer is getting value for money, and getting what is required to do the job safely with the right product for their needs. “I think that’s what makes us stand out. We aim for the service to back the quality
of product, and the quality of product also backs our service.” BYPY Transmissions’ national warehouse is located at 16 Dingley Avenue, Dandenong and the product range can be viewed at www.bypy.com.au

FOR THE LAND
Grab a slice
The Hustler BaleSlice
New South Wales cattle beef farmer Rowan Fetterplace has added the Hustler BaleSlice LX190 bale cutter into his daily routine When it comes to farm machinery, maximising convenience and efficiency is a dream not many have the luxury to afford. However, cattle farmer Rowan Fetterplace has managed to grab a slice of that dream thanks to Hustler Equipment. Fetterplace’s most recent purchase – the Hustler BaleSlice bale cutter – has not only improved the quality of everyday work but has transformed the NSW farmer’s feeding routine. “I’d describe the BaleSlice as reliable, timesaving and easy to use,” Fetterplace says. “I’d normally bring down six or eight bales at a time, take the plastic off, take the net off and then go and put them into the hay feeders. “This machine does it all for me – cuts the plastic, picks the net out and drops it into the feeder. I don’t even have to get out of the cab.” The bale cutter is designed to improve the convenience of work in the agricultural sector, with the ability to feed multiple bales with no need to step out of the tractor’s cab. A routine once characterised by multiple cab exits and manual interventions now allows workers to save time and optimise efficiency. The BaleSlice attachment is equipped with a secure and positive four-hook wrap removal system, keeping unsightly wrap away from the tractor cab. Additionally, it operates on the concept of gravity-assisted slicing, designed to cut bales from top to bottom. Furthermore, the smart four-hook style
wrap holder ensures zero plastic in the wagon, optimising the feeding process. The BaleSlice cutting edge – inspired by the mining and earthmoving industries – is made from HB500 steel, with every component reinforced by Hustler’s fiveyear quality assurance warranty. Nestled in the Hunter Valley, Fetterplace’s farm spans over 243 hectares and is home to a thriving herd of 230 Angus breeders. Feeding forms a cornerstone of Fetterplace’s daily chores. With 15 round bales of silage to distrib-
ute each day, the process was not without its challenges. The time-consuming task of manually unwrapping bales, fending off eager cattle, and ensuring a mess-free feeding environment weighed heavily on his routine. “It definitely makes things a lot quicker for me,” Fetterplace says. “I’d recommend the Hustler BaleSlice mainly just for the ease of use.” For more information on the Hustler BaleSlice, visit www.hustlerequipment.com

One of the most satisfying aspects of being Australian is experiencing the culture of storytelling that engulfs the intricate history of generational knowledge. The latest story comes from Hillston in New South Wales – a town where James MacDonald’s bloodline is sown into the land he works with. As a third-generation agricultural worker, the Macsfield Sheepyards Hillston MacDonalds owner has the privilege of learned experience from family past – however as technology develops and population demand increases, the need for adaptation is essential. Cue the introduction of the McCormick X8.680 tractor. “I worked with AIM Equipment’s general manager – Brian Dalziel – to get the
McCormick tractor out and ready to go,” MacDonald says. “Being in charge of 12,000 acres of land is both a blessing and a curse – plenty of work for me and everyone to keep busy, but you need the right tools to get it done.” MacDonald primarily uses the Italian-built machine for weed spraying and cultivation, however during harvest time the X8 can easily pull a chaser bin for the collected wheat crop. “From what I’ve seen, whoever has had a turn operating it have all come off it with a smile on their face,” MacDonald says. “We usually operate the sprayer attachment system with an 8,000-litre tank and after a full day they turn to me and say, ‘You’ve got to give that a try!’” Part of the X8 range, the X8.680 boasts a 6-cylinder 310hp Iveco engine with a ZF
variable transmission VT (50km/hr). The VT-drive transmission is a CTV (continuously variable transmission) developed by Argo Tractors that provides an infinite number of speed ratios from zero to the maximum speed permitted. The X8.680 also offers increased operator usability and comfort with integrated arm rest, touch screen monitor with VT easy pilot controls, autosteer and ISOBUS technology. These features are put to work regularly at Macsfield Sheepyards Hillston, with over 8,000 acres of the land devoted to crop work. “Harvest season is always a busy time for us and we needed something with a lot of power to get what we needed done – the X8 was the machine for the job,” MacDonald says.

“My family and I have been on this land since the 1920’s with my grandfather coming here and setting up a good way of life that we’ve stuck to for three generations now. “It’s just a matter of fact – there are more mouths to feed these days and I’m glad I can take what I’ve learnt from my father, and his father before him, and grow that into a successful business for my family.” The sound of boisterous laughter is heard in the background as MacDonald cracks wise with his brother-in-law Tim who primarily works with the X8 and the attached sprayer. “We like to call it Tim’s tractor since he’s the one that works on it mostly,” MacDonald says. “But the more we keep using it, the more work we can find for it. Let’s say our main tractor is out of commission or it’s being used for something else, we can just hook the new X8 up and off it goes – always gets the job done.”

From chaser bins to sprayer attachments, MacDonald lists the various pieces of equipment the McCormick X8 can be used for. With the laughter dying down, the third-generation NSW farmer can’t help but poke fun at himself.
“I’ve been in this game for a long time mate, but at heart I’m an 18-year-old with 42 years of experience,” he said. Even with generations of collective experience and excellent machinery, MacDonald proves it is still possible to see yourself as a young adult with a simple

The 560-80 is JCB’s most powerful telehandler
Power drive JCB’s 560-80 telehandler is packed with power for the biggest farm jobs, while remaining nimble and comfortable for operators In the constant search for more power and grunt, agricultural machines invariably become physically bigger. Looking at the telehandler world, where manoeuvring in tight spaces is a necessity, this can often be problematic. Enter JCB’s 560-80. The most powerful telehandler in the British manufacturer’s offering has been designed in a way that its wheelbase is no larger than any of the other machines in its range. The 560-80 is fitted with a Z-bar linkage, which forms what JCB describes as its toughest-ever telescopic boom. Combined with a powerful 145hp (108kW) engine, the result is a telehandler with a 5,500kg lift capacity and 7.9m maximum lift height. It also has an impressive 6.7 tonnes of breakout force, which is described as a major drawcard for farmers by John Plummer, regional sales manager with Australian distributor JCB CEA. “The 560-80 has nearly 50 per more
36

breakout force than the normal traditional telehandler,” he says. “In terms of ripping grain out of piles or sticky muck, its breakout force is just insane. It completely dominates in terms of what it can physically tear out and lift. “It’s a big machine but you don’t feel like you’re driving some massive thing around the farm - it’s actually really nimble.” JCB’s 560-80 features three steering modes – 2WS, 4WS and crab steer – which provide versatility and greater manoeuvrability for operators. Power and productivity are boosted by the presence of JCB’s award-winning DieselMAX engine. Despite being capable of up to 145hp, the engine produces its power and torque at low revolutions, meaning the engine is not worked as hard and therefore becomes more fuel efficient. Other features of the 560-80 include a 140L/min variable flow hydraulic pump, good ground clearance and four-wheel drive and hydrostatic transmission.
Thanks to JCB’s Dual Tech VT drivetrain, the telehandler will also seamlessly transition from hydrostatic transmission to powershift – something which Plummer says is especially advantageous for Australian conditions. “We’ve got the hydrostatic for up to 19km/h - the slow moving, bulky handling around the farmyard - and then a four-speed power shift to take you up to 40km/h, so you have the best of both worlds,” he says. “Where hydrostatics struggle, particularly in Australian heat, is on road at any sort of speed and any long period of time. “To get around that, the 560-80 jumps straight to power shift, and it performs just like a power shift tractor would.” Another area JCB looked to improve with the 560-80 was through using its own axle, rather than needing an external supplier, with the axle being one of the only areas where the manufacturer’s own products were not used. “We make all our chassis, all our own
Despite its power, the 560-80 remains compact in size
booms, all our hydraulic rams, all our own cabs, and all our own gearboxes, and the 560-80 was the only model left where we didn’t make the axles,” Plummer says. “We didn’t have an axle big enough for it, but using an external supplier can also cause some challenges with actually getting hold of product and axles. “We spent a load of money and developed our own axle. Another big change is the service intervals. “The previous axle had to be serviced at 100 hours with a full oil change, whereas this new one is 500 hours, which helps the cost of ownership.” The result is a machine which is appealing to a wide range of Australian farmers, with Plummer citing several agricultural sectors where the 560-80 is popular. He also says it is popular with farmers who have already owned smaller JCB telehandlers and want to make the step up in power. “A lot of big arable cropping farmers are now all buying 560-80s,” he says. “There seems to be a lot more focus on farm grain storage now and fertiliser as well. Especially in the last seven to 10 years, a lot of customers would have contractors come to do their fertiliser spreading, but big cropping farmers are now
buying their own spreaders and they’re bulk loading fertiliser, bulk handling grain, and cotton. “We also have the feed lot buyer. Where they might have looked at wheel loaders in the past, you’ve got something that performs as well as a wheeled loader, but with the extra lift heights. “Even some of the big dairy farmers buy these 560-80s. “Particularly if someone’s already had one before - farmers love more power and
more performance. We never buy a car that’s got less grunt than the last one. “It’s as mobile and as agile as our smaller telehandlers, but the cab is slightly higher, the visibility is better, and the breakout force is nearly 50 per cent more. “It’s not a one trick pony.”
The 560-80 is distributed in Australia through JCB CEA and can be viewed at www.jcbcea.com.au

Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker is proving to be a reliable workhorse for contractors
Solid stack A New South Wales hay contractor’s story proves Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker is living up to its reputation as a reliable and uncomplicated operator Sometimes farmers want a high-tech machine with all the bells and whistles, and other times they simply want a solid workhorse that will consistently get the job done. Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker is a classic example of a farm implement that is simple to use, reliable to a T and which operates with no fuss. Large scale operations cannot afford any downtime, and this is what attracted New South Wales farmer Christian Trojel from Gaard Agriculture to the Big Bale Stacker. Now starting his fourth hay season with the Jadan machine, Gaard Agriculture is a farming operation of 3,850 hectares and a hay contracting business that produces an average of 40,000 to 50,000 bales each year – with the work carried out across multiple states. “A fair bit of it is done in Queensland, probably two-thirds of the baling is in Queensland, and the rest is done around our own farms here at West Wyalong in New South Wales,” he says.
Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker only requires one operator and a tractor and can quickly collect and stack bales into stacks of either four or six, depending on the bale’s size. Designed and manufactured locally, its robust and sturdy design mean it is well suited to challenging Australian conditions. Trojel’s usage of the Big Bale Stacker not only demonstrates its workhorse-like nature, but its uncomplicated style means staff can easily learn to use it – a crucial element for a contracting business where multiple operators can be in the tractor throughout the season. “We go through quite a few drivers on the stackers, because we like to retain our drivers longer on balers, so it’s the stackers that are going to get a lot of different drivers,” he says. “At the moment we’re doing about a thousand bales a day, we’re going 24/7 with it right now. “They get a hard workout sometimes and therefore you don’t want the ma-
chines to be too complicated. “You just want them built strong and sturdy, and able to handle going down the paddock at 30 or 40km/h with six bales on the back – which they are.” Several design features help to make Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker stand out. A major versatility benefit is that it can pick bales in any direction, meaning that it can run in the same direction as the baler. Versatility is further bolstered by an adjustable drawbar tongue which allows for various tractor heights, while heavy duty flotation tyres provide a smooth ride for operators across uneven ground. Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker works by collecting bales between the two grab arms on the front of the stacker, using in-cab fingertip hydraulic control functions. The bale is tipped up by the ‘first table’ and placed onto the main table, where it gently slides down the tray to the end of the stacker. After collecting a stack of bales, the stacker then tips up the tray and places the bales into a neat stack.

The Big Bale Stacker can handle multiple bales with ease
The stacker also features a unique plastic-covered tray to help the bales slide. Trojel cited the ease of sliding bales as a considerable benefit for him and has fitted a wet bale kit to his stacker – one of several optional extras Jadan offers. This has meant bale sliding has become another area where the Jadan unit excels against a different stacker he has operated. “They have a little chain on the bed that helps push the bale or drag the bales off the table so they slide down easily,” he says. “In dewy or dusty conditions, it can be quite difficult with our other stacker to get them to slide the bales, but with this one we’re not depending on it. “We just push the foot pedal button and the hydraulic lever, and it pushes the bale back for us and off we go again.” This is just one of many benefits Trojel has found with Jadan’s Big Bale Stacker
The Big Bale Stacker has been shown at field days including this year’s AgQuip
compared to the machine that was his previous go-to, which was manufactured overseas. Jadan is based in the central-west NSW town of Cowra, meaning help is not far away – even if help is rarely required thanks to the stacker’s consistency. “I like that they’re basic and they’re
very reliable,” Trojel says. “Parts are a lot easier to source for us – Cowra is only two hours drive from our farm – and they’re built strong. “There hasn’t been too much we’ve have to deal with them for, but the few things have been very good. No complaints whatsoever, it’s been good service.
“When we need to upgrade and go new again, it will be a Jadan for sure.”

The Juwel 6 mounted plough
Cultivation equipment has long been Lemken’s bread and butter, and its range of ploughs form an important part of the company’s offering As farmers increasingly look at alternatives to chemical weed control, Lemken continues to have the answers. The German manufacturer boasts a variety of both mounted and semi-mounted reversible ploughs that combine quality manufacturing with strong reliability – and the size to handle Australian broadacre farms. Lemken offers customers the Juwel mounted plough, which is available in several sizes, before stepping up in size to the Diamant 16 and high-end Titan 18 semi-mounted ploughs. The Juwel is a versatile operator designed to enable farmers and contractors to tailor its specifications to their individual requirements. The smallest model is the lightweight Juwel 6, suitable for tractors between 50-130hp. Juwel 6 is the newest model in Lemken’s range, only hitting the market earlier this year. It features a 110mm frame box section and an underframe clearance of 80cm and is available in versions with three to five furrows.
Juwel 6 is easy to transport on road
Lemken’s range then steps up to the Juwel 7 and 8, which are designed for tractors from 70-200hp and 90-315hp respectively. At the top end is Lemken’s Juwel 10, best suited to heavy conditions and tractors between 150-450hp. Each Juwel model is available with 90cm, 100cm or 120cm body spacing. Evidence of Juwel’s customisation across the range includes the ability to set The Juwel 10 is the largest in Lemken’s mounted plough range

four different working widths, with the Juwel MV models featuring hydraulic working width adjustment as standard. Lemken has also developed its Optiquick adjustment system, which it says allows for easy and efficient adjustment of the front furrow width and tractor/ plough pull line, independently of each other. This ensures the plough is free from side forces, the manufacturer adds, and helps operators save time and money. Farmers or contractors with the need for a bigger machine can step up to the semi-mounted versions - starting with the Diamant 16. This is designed for tractors from 150hp and above, and is available in 5-9 furrow versions. Diamant is fitted with OptiLine adjustment system, which Lemken describes as the “first and only adjustment system for semi-mounted ploughs that allows ploughing without side draft”. This helps operators save up to 10 per cent in fuel, the manufacturer adds. Large clearance between the plough headstock and tractor allows for a steering angle of up to 90 degrees, with
The Diamant 16 semimounted plough
the transport wheel being automatically controlled during plough rotation. Diamant 16 is designed for easy and rapid turning, even on narrow headlands and other difficult terrain such as hills. While Diamant 16 is a sizeable beast, Lemken’s Titan 18 is a further step up again – available between nine and 13 furrows and with working widths up to 7.15m. The Titan 18 can be adjusted to one
Titan 18 is Lemken’s biggest plough
of four settings with between 33cm and 50cm per plough body and working widths of between 2.97m and 6.5m. The Titan 18V model offers infinitely variable hydraulic working width adjustment from 30cm to 55cm per plough body, plus working widths of 2.7m to 7.15m. Both the Titan 18 and 18V also feature Lemken’s OptiStone hydraulic overload protection, which is based on a new swivel bracket with high trigger and re-entry forces to protect both tractor and plough
when an obstacle is encountered. Despite its significant size, Lemken says the Titan range is still “exceptionally manoeuvrable for rapid turning on narrow headlands and maximum area output” and can be safely transported on the road without overloading the tractor. With so many options, Lemken has a plough to suit all needs. The manufacturer’s full range can be viewed at www.lemken.com

The Poultry Pro is a popular unit with Farm & Diesel customers
Dieci Australia and Victorian dealership Farm & Diesel are coming up to a decade as partners, with quality products and service helping the relationship to thrive Dieci telehandlers are well known for their specialised nature and for being perfectly suited to specific industries within agriculture. In the heartland of one of these agricultural sectors is northern Victorian dealership Farm & Diesel, where Dieci’s Poultry Pro telehandler is a top seller. Farm & Diesel was established in 2012 and has grown to have 11 employees across three branches in the Victorian towns of Swan Hill, Goornang and Epsom. Dieci telehandlers have been at the dealership’s core for the last eight years, fulfilling the needs of customers within Farm & Diesel’s broad catchment area from towns as far afield in north and western Victoria as Bendigo and Mildura. Farm & Diesel founder and managing director Sam Walker says there are several reasons why he and his customers enjoy Dieci products.
“The reliability, the backup support in Australia and obviously the quality of the machine as well,” he says. “The main feedback that we get is just around the reliability and the ease of use. It’s not too complicated for users. “Dieci Australia are also the only ones on the market that make a Poultry Pro specifically for the industry, so that’s how we keep getting return customers as well, because Dieci specialises in their application.” Unique features of the Poultry Pro include smaller wheels and a low cabin height, both of which help operators navigate more efficiently and allow the machine to fit into sheds and under gantries which are typically used for feeding. Capable of handling loads of up to three tonnes, the Poultry Pro also has a maximum lifting height of 6.35m, can produce up to 98hp (73.4kW) in power and reach speeds of 35km/h.
Walker says in addition to the Poultry Pro, another big seller within the Farm & Diesel catchment area is Dieci’s Agri Plus 40.7 telehandler. This all-rounder is Italian made, like all Dieci telehandlers, and boasts a fourtonne lift capacity and 7.06m maximum lift height. Combining a sleek look with workhorse power, Walker says there are several unique elements of the Agri Plus which he believes stands out. “The Agri Plus 40.7 is equipped with a rear mounted radiator, and Dieci Australia are the only ones on the market that do that,” he says. “The cab design and the layout, plus it has better visibility than a lot of our other competitors as well.” Dieci Australia has been on its own growth journey, which includes opening a new facility in Sydney earlier this year – a move which coincided with its 25-year anniversary in the local market.
Farm & Diesel is a Dieci dealership in northern Victoria
44
Farms & Farm Machinery
In addition to the quality of machines, Walker also cited the support from Dieci Australia as a major advantage for both his dealership and its customers. “Dieci Australia are very easy to get along with,” he says. “They’ve made some good changes that will support the product more in Australia with parts, setting up nationwide outlets in the major cities. “I think all of that will help the end user and give them greater support, and us as dealers as well.” Farm & Diesel’s head office is located at 239-245 Midland Highway, Epsom and its website is www.farmanddiesel.com.au. The dealership’s two branches are located at 60 Railway Place South, Goornong, and 49 Sea Lake Road, Swan Hill. Out to pasture WAFarmers CEO Trevor Whittington says both the Voice referendum and WA’s Aboriginal heritage laws highlight the need for governments to better understand the community At the time of writing, Western Australia was still operating under the new Aboriginal Cultural Heritage laws - so I hope the graders and dozers have remained in the shed over Spring. WA’s Aboriginal Affairs Minister Tony Buti’s much-touted consultation process has yet again fallen over and was a disaster during the so-called co-design. This was a delusional effort to have the miners, farmers, pastoralists and Indigenous groups work together via a hand-holding process, and it was a disaster during the month-long implementation process before the Premier pulled the rug on this experiment. It has now collapsed yet again on the review of the new Act, when the Indigenous groups recently walked out, no doubt when they worked out the Heritage surveys they were promised have evaporated. The good news is the bill to abolish the new act and take us back to 1972 is being debated. If it gets through should make for a workable outcome for freehold land holders, as the farmers and pastoralists were facing costs of over $5,000 just to get a permit for a Section 18 exemption to allow land disturbance on a heritage site. One point of interest for landholders to note is the Premier’s commitment to fund a statewide survey in high priority areas to identify Aboriginal heritage sites over the next decade. We await details as to how much funding and what determines a high priority area, but a recent question in parliament asked to Finance Minister Sue Ellery did solicit the reply: “a survey for a farmer making a Section 18 application will be paid for”. That is good news, but now we need
46
Farms & Farm Machinery
to see if the government will pay for the survey itself, assuming the government thinks heritage on farmland is as important as heritage on Crown land. Governments need to have their finger on the pulse, which is where the Federal Government fell down by running the Voice Referendum without the support of the opposition. They did this despite knowing the chances of a successful outcome without a bipartisan approach was historically a terrible bet. Albanese and his cabinet had their finger on the pulse of those who championed the Uluru statement, who managed to convince him that any referendum would achieve a 70 per cent vote from the Australian people. But that’s like taking the pulse of the animal activists and asking them if the live export trade had lost their social license to operate. No doubt they too would say that 70 per cent of the Australian community would agree with them, but like the Voice debate you don’t know what people are really thinking until you grab their attention and run the pros and con arguments over months. Fortunately, the Voice decision had that opportunity via the process of the referendum. Unfortunately no such opportunity has been given to the live export debate. Good governments keep an ear to the ground and are never too out of step of the mood of the punters. Governments get the nod from the voters to change Australia, but they can only do it if they remain in tune with the community. Push the mob too far or too fast from the home paddock and they will get confused and refuse to move or simply turn back to where they came from.
Western Australian land is still subject to the now-scrapped Aboriginal Cultural Heritage laws, which Trevor Whittington says could cause problems until officially repealed
Trevor Whittington is CEO of WAFarmers
We have just seen this with the Voice vote - the mob were not convinced that following the vibe would take Australia to a better paddock, leaving the government looking like it had no idea where it was droving Australia. But while Australia got to vote on the Voice, we don’t get to vote on the future of live exports. Rather, we have to live with a government’s claims that they are in touch with the community’s mood and the live export trade has to go as it has lost its social licence. Something does not add up. This government has overstepped with its climate change policy with the forced rollout of thousands of new wind farms and claims of cheaper energy. It overstepped with an industrial relations policy that is aimed at reunionising the workforce, its tax grab on super went too far, it ignores the cost of living pressures on battling Australians and plenty more. It is no surprise the government got it so wrong on the Voice, but at least the community stopped them in their tracks something that is not available to farmers facing an end to the live sheep trade. The only hope for live exports if the trade is condemned is having the end date pushed out long enough for the community to put the government to the sword before they get the chance to kill off the trade.
TRENDS AND DATA
Further falls Tractor sales declined in September as 2023’s sales figures increasingly fall into line with normal years, the Tractor and Machinery Association says September saw a continuation of the sales decline for agricultural tractors in Australia with only around 1,000 units being sold in the month. By comparison, around 1,500 units were sold in September 2022. This now means that on a year-to-date basis, the industry is down 23 per cent on last year. It is now quite evident the industry is headed for a subdued period due to several factors, including the recently declared El Niño for eastern Australia. While spring rains have been helpful and there remains the prospect of a reasonable harvest season, a more pessimistic mood is now being seen among farmers, which is leading to declines in demand for new machinery. As the association has been saying for some time now, the industry has come off two years of markedly high sales. Around 12,000 tractors is normally considered a good year of sales, and the past two years have been about 50 per cent ahead of this. This year’s forecast presently has us at the ‘good year’ figure of about 12,000, however the trend line is indicating further falls to come in 2024. Looking around the nation, all states have experienced significant drops in September. Queensland was down 46 per cent against the same month last year, to be 21

per cent behind for the year to date. New South Wales was down 43 per cent in September to be 24 per cent off for the year to date, while Victoria was down 29 per cent and is now 28 per cent behind on the year to date. Sales in Western Australia reported a drop of 28 per cent compared to last September and the state remains 22 per cent behind last year. South Australia recorded a 40 per cent monthly decline and now sits 16 per cent behind on the year to date. Tasmania was off 2 per cent for the month and is 22 per cent down on the year to date. Northern Territory, which is a smaller sample size, finished 100 per cent up compared to last September but remains 13 per cent down on the year to date. Falls were experienced in all machine categories. The small, under 40hp (30kw) category was down by 32 per cent for the month and is now 22 per cent behind for the year to date. The 40hp to 100hp (30-75kw) range was also down 46 per cent on last September and is now 24 per cent behind year to date. The 100hp to 200hp (75-150 kw) category was down, this time by 36 per cent, and it remains 26 per cent behind on the year to date. Finally the 200hp (150kw) plus range
Combine harvester sales rose and sit above 2022 year-to-date figures

slipped by 29 per cent for the month, and this remains 17 per cent behind last year. Sales of combine harvesters experienced a lift this month. Around 500 units have been delivered in the year so far, which is 22 per cent up on the same time last year. With reports of a strong winter harvest and expectations of a healthy summer crop, we appear to be in for another outstanding year ahead for combines. Baler sales enjoyed another healthy rise and are now 13 per cent ahead on a year-to-date basis, while sales of out-front mowers remain in line with the same time last year. The TMA Dealer Business Sentiment Survey was conducted in August with around 100 dealers contributing. The results - which can be found on the association’s website at www.tma.asn.au - demonstrate an overwhelming expectation for reduced trading in the period ahead which will deliver a whole new set of challenges for the industry.

New Holland’s combine harvester is yet to have a formal model number
The world’s largest farm machinery show – Agritechnica – will return to Germany this month. Chris McCullough reports Being held for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of visitors will flock to the German city of Hanover later this month for Agritechnica. The show provides manufacturers with a chance to debut products to the global market. We bring you a snapshot of the show’s already-announced award winners, with more coverage of Agritechnica product releases after the event. Solid gold The much-coveted Agritechnica Gold Medal has been awarded to New Holland for its overall concept CR twin axial

rotor combine harvester, which will be launched at the show. Designing new combines with increased performance is tough given the size and weight limitations, but the company says this new one is a game changer. Being 95 per cent new, fully automated and powered by a big FPT engine, New Holland says the new series will reduce grain loss to near zero. The core element of the new CR combine harvester is the drive technology with an engine that is mounted longitudinally according to the rotors’ angle of inclination. The centrally located split-power gear-
New Holland won the prestigious Agritechnica gold medal
box is used to drive rotors and harvesting headers with an intake chain in a straight line or via a propeller shaft.
The left rotor serves as a counter shaft for the feed drum and the propeller shaft is located on the right-hand side of the chassis above the level of the rotor housing. Consequently, there are no drives located between the chassis and the running gear in either side of the harvester, allowing the width of the chassis to increased considerably as a result. The resulting space has been used to widen the threshing channel and therefore to increase the installed technical output of the combine harvester. To eliminate any blockages, a software-controlled automatic system not only performs the usual back and forth movements to loosen a blockage, but also slews the belt tensioner to the respective tensioning side of the feed drum belt, which creates a particularly precise transfer of the rotary movement. The patented cleaning system has also been made 13 per cent wider and grain
elevator loading has been optimised, while pressure sensor-supported control technology measures the ram pressure – and therefore harvested crop distribution separately – on the front and rear upper sieve. This new combine remains unidentified in terms of model numbers until its show launch and will enter limited production next year for world markets. Silver system A joint Lemken and Track32 technology which informs farmers when their cultivator shares need changing has been awarded an Agritechnica silver medal. The two companies came up with iQblue tool monitoring, a system for detecting tool breakage and wear and analysing the wear of cultivator shares. Already available, a camera system monitors the shares and automatically records their current condition while
working at the headland. It therefore provides farmers with a valuable decision-making aid for changing and buying spare parts. iQblue tool monitoring is the first system on the market that ensures objective assessment even in difficult conditions. The system comprises a camera, which takes many individual images of the tine section on a 3m wide cultivator while working at the headland. A software algorithm evaluates the condition of the shares, which is then displayed on the ISOBUS terminal via a traffic light system. Extensively worn shares are shown in red, while damaged shares are marked in yellow and intact shares in green. Based on this information, the system calculates not only future wear but also the point in time at which it makes sense to replace the shares. If necessary, users can retrieve the current tool status at any time.

New Holland Big Baler 1290HD

Mandam’s Grot chisel plough
Plenty of machinery was on display for Elmore Field Days visitors last month Victoria’s Elmore Field Days marked a milestone this year - celebrating 60 years since first entering the calendar. It continued a year of milestones for Australian field days, with popular New South Wales events Henty and AgQuip reaching their 60th and 50th anniversaries respectively. Held between October 3-5, rain kept crowds away early in the event – but a sunny final day saw numbers stream through the gates in the northern Victorian town. As per usual, plenty of machinery was on display from a range of exhibitors, and here are just a few of the highlights: New Holland baler Elmore was the perfect time for New Holland to showcase its Big Baler 1290HD. Launched to the Australian market in time for last year’s hay season, the unit boasts a larger diameter crank and bearings, auto greasing and heavier feeder forks made from Hardox steel. It is described as perfect for farmers who do not need the crop to be cut as it passes through the feeder, and offers a greater capacity than what New Holland previously had on the market. Mandam plough The Grot chisel plough from Polish manufacturer Mandam formed part of Greg Allan Farm Machinery’s display. The distributor says the Grot offers a great alternative to traditional ploughs, as the chisel plough can work at great depths and in particularly difficult soil conditions. It is capable of performing at strong speed, even up to 12km/h, and is also
equipped with a hydraulic working depth adjustment as standard. Berti mulchers The Italian-made range of Berti mulchers was on display at Elmore, thanks to national distributor Ag-Pride Australia. Berti’s mulcher range includes models specifically designed for tractors, along with those for skid steers, compact track loaders and excavators. This means Berti products cover everything from clearing land for pasture through to dealing with heavy vegetation regrowth. Berti’s EKR range is popular with customers who have smaller tractors. Standard features include a fixed and reversible three-point linkage, self-cleaning and adjustable rear rollers and forged and hardened Berti hammers. Orsi shredder Another Italian-manufactured product being showcased was the Orsi range, which was at Clark Equipment’s site. One Orsi product being shown was the Eagle Plus rear shredder, which is available in models between 75hp and 150hp, and which can attach to the back of a tractor. The Eagle Plus is ideal for shredding grass, straw or vegetables and offers a double internal frame built entirely out of Hardox, plus an electronically balanced rotor. Hustler trailer New Zealand company Hustler Equipment showcased one of its tip trailers – the Loadmax TX108.
The trailer has a 4m by 2.4m deck size, 4.8 cubic metre level capacity and an 8-tonne lift capacity. Features across Hustler’s Loadmax trailer range include two-piece folding and removable sides with centre and corner posts that serve as bolsters, two-way swinging tailgate, and large toolboxes on both sides of the chassis. Ausmix mixer Farmtech’s stand was a popular one during Elmore, not least because one of the manufacturer’s mixers – the new Ausmix XL26 feed mixer – had been named ‘best Australian designed and manufactured machine’ at the Henty Field Days in September. Another of Ausmix’s machines, the XL24, was on display for visitors to see. Featuring a 24 cubic metre capacity, this twin-screw feed mixer has two Fibre-X augers with integrated razor-sharp knives, plus 20mm thick heavy-duty steel plates to ensure its durability. Rapid Spray While many companies focused on big machines, Rapid Spray had a small but impressive unit on its stand. The 10L Rapidline sprayer is a ‘backpack’ unit designed for handheld spraying with the likes of pesticides and disinfectants. It features a 10V rechargeable battery for up to 3.5 hours of continuous spraying time, fine pressure adjustment, plus an easy-to-carry handle and adjustable, padded shoulder straps to ensure maximum comfort while working.

Big deal Technology group Trimble will spin-out its precision agriculture business to a joint venture with Agco in a multi-billion dollar deal American company Trimble, which manufactures a variety of agricultural hardware and software, will spin out its precision agriculture business to a joint venture majority owned by machinery group Agco in a transaction which it says will “create a global leader in mixed fleet smart farming and autonomy solutions”. Trimble will be paid an estimated US$2 billion (A$3.15 billion) to spin out its precision agriculture business, assets and technologies into the new company. This excludes certain Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and guidance technologies, which Trimble will continue to supply under a long term deal. Agco will contribute to the joint venture the JCA Technologies business it acquired last year, which develops autonomous software for agricultural machines, implement controls and electronic system components.
The joint venture company will be 85 per cent owned by Agco, with Trimble holding the remaining 15 per cent. Agco, which owns tractor brands including Massey Ferguson, Challenger, Fendt, and Valtra, says the Joint Venture will enhance its existing precision agriculture portfolio and deliver even more industry-leading solutions across the crop cycle. Agco CEO and president Eric Hansotia says the deal will make the company even more farmer-focused. “The exclusive access to Trimble Ag products, combined with Agco’s existing precision ag offerings, accelerates Agco’s growth ambitions around autonomy, precision spraying, connected farming, data management and sustainability,” he says. “Farmers today are looking for mixed fleet solutions across their tractors and the implements that they use to most efficiently and sustainably feed the world,”
Trimble CEO and president Rob Painter with Agco CEO and president Eric Hansotia
Trimble CEO and president Rob Painter says. “We believe a joint venture with Agco, complemented by the successful mixed fleet approach that they have developed with their precision planting business model, can help us better serve farmers and OEMs together. “Trimble has a rich history of forming and cultivating joint ventures with industry leaders such as Caterpillar, Nikon and Hilti and we are excited about this opportunity with Agco and its family of leading brands. “We look forward to a new chapter with Agco to bring precision agriculture to both the factory and to the aftermarket.” The deal is expected to officially close in the first half of 2024.

Super star Two new models of the Italian-made Landini Super Series tractor have arrived in Australia Offering sleek new styling and power shuttle transmissions, two types of Super Series tractors are available – the Super 85 ROPS and Super 100 Aircon Cabin tractor. Sales and marketing manager for local distributors Inlon, Gary Surman, says Landini tractors have taken their tried and tested Super Series features and combined them with a host of upgrades. “It’s a simple-to-use mechanical tractor that gets the job done, time and time again,” he says. “These Super tractors have the legendary 4.4-litre English Perkins 4-cylinder diesel engine for impressive performance and torque. “The new power shuttle is located under the left-hand side steering for effortless forward and reverse direction changes. Oil-immersed clutch packs will ensure longer service life.
Landini’s new Super 100 Cabin and Super 85 ROPS tractors
“The power shuttle has modulation control, allowing the operator to select the shuttle response time. “A declutch button on the gear lever is a bonus for operators, enabling quick change through the main gear lever without the need to depress the main clutch pedal, increasing productivity and ease of operation.” The Super Series’ transmission is 12 forward and 12 reverse gears, along with a push button diff-lock which Surman says provides better traction in difficult conditions. Large 460/485r30 rear radial tyres also support traction and stability. The Category II linkage has a lifting capacity from 3,100kg and optionally up to 5,000kg. Hydraulic remotes add extra

versatility, with two remotes featuring on the Super 85 ROPS and four remotes on the Super 100 Cabin tractor. Landini’s Super Series was first introduced in 1988, and there are still thousands of original Landini-built 60 Series tractors working reliably on Australian farms. Surman says this durability is testament to the quality workmanship behind the tractors. The Super 85 ROPS has a 2.316m wheelbase with a base tractor weight (without loader) and weighs in at 3,450kg, ensuring the new Super will handle heavy loads with ease. Inlon dealers are also offering the Landini Super 85 ROPS as a package with a loader, 4-in-1 bucket and a free sun canopy included. materials used - so this product adds a level of safety and efficiency to our manufacturing operations,” Leditschke says. “In the hire yards we have to maintain our fleet of 10,000 hire buildings nationally... these EWPs give us the same sort of efficiencies that the factories get.”
Highs and lows Ausco Modular, an Australian manufacturer and installer of portable modular buildings, has made its manufacturing and hire operations safer and more efficient with new equipment from Toyota Material Handling Australia Ausco Modular recently decided to purchase 10 new TMHA Leonardo EWPs (Elevated Work Platforms) and four TMHA ride-on sweepers for its four manufacturing facilities across Australia, making the switch from more traditional ladders and mobile scaffolding in a move it says will improve worker efficiency and safety.
Leonardo EWPs Ausco Modular National Operations and Fleet Manager David Leditschke praised the Leonardo EWPs for their manoeuvrability. “They do the job for us, they’re good in tight spaces, they’re safe, they add a level of efficiency to our processes and the feedback from the guys that use them is really good as well, which is really important,” he says. “The fact that it is flexible and you can do tasks at different heights just by using a machine rather than going up and down and changing ladders is a real time saver. Adopting the new TMHA EWPs also improves safety outcomes for Ausco, with the increased size and complexity of modern modular buildings requiring more stringent safety measures. “Especially these days, the scope of modular buildings is becoming more complex - higher, heavier, more complicated with
TMHA Ride-on Sweepers Ausco also decided to purchase four TMHA ride-on sweepers which have helped the business save on time and manpower, while also ensuring a clean and safe working area. “We’ve also bought some sweepers recently from TMHA, the ride-on sweepers for our branches and the guys like them just as much (as the EWPs),” Leditschke says. “Once again it’s an efficiency game. On a Friday afternoon having three blokes on a broom for two hours sweeping up the workshop as opposed to one guy jumping on a sweeper and having it done in 40 minutes, the sweepers have brought an efficiency to the place. “And there’s also a safety aspect; the floors are clean and there’s no hazards.” For more on the Leonardo EWP range and the TMHA ride-on sweepers, visit www. toyotamaterialhandling.com.au or contact Ausco Modular for temporary, permanent and portable buildings solutions.
Clean sweep Commercial cleaning products company i-Team ANZ will distribute the Orbot machinery range in Australia and New Zealand. Designed for small to medium-sized spaces and to handle different floor types, the Orbot cleaning range will be uniquely distributed in Australia by i-team ANZ. i-Team director Tim Pugh says the exclusive distribution deal will help his company offer customers “the most innovative and efficient cleaning and restoration solutions available.” The i-Team ANZ Orbot range offers three models to the local market:
Orbot SLiM has an average run time of 45 minutes (depending on floor and pad) and offers quick solution change over with a 90 minute charge time.
Orbot SLiM This machine is engineered to “effortlessly manoeuvre through tight spaces” due to its compact design and multiple attachment features. It has a lever-free on/off switch for hands free cleaning, a low-moisture spray jet, integrated LED lights and an 11-inch free-floating base for complete floor contact. With a 36V lithium-ion battery, the
Orbot SprayBorg Designed for deep cleaning and intensive restoration tasks, the Orbot SprayBorg is used to combat stains in residential, commercial and industrial cleaning. Designed for heavy-duty work with its 1hp engine and 90psi pressure pump, the Orbot SprayBorg can increase the pressure with adjustable spray jets and added weights on its 17-inch floating base.
i-Team ANZ’s distribution rights of Orbot cleaning machines gives the Australian and New Zealand cleaning market a new tech boost
Orbot Vibe Engineered to provide floor scrubbing and polishing, the Orbot Vibe aims for “impeccable floor maintenance” with its adjustable frame and ability to dispense a “high-gloss” clear coat protection. All machines include Orbot’s “dual-action orbital technology” that uses orbital vibration and rotational cleaning rather than the one-direction scrubbing found on standard industry cleaners.
