GC INDIA DENTAL Dr. Sriram Mudambi Managing Director www.primeview.co
I remember when I started my career around two decades ago; all I had to worry was about a good pay check. Work-life balance was a part of our life and we never had to worry about Lego-boxing them. Cut to the present, the entire ecosystem has changed. Employees today look not just at monetary benefits, but the overall growth and flexibility that design their life. From flexible working hours to free and healthy meals/snacks, from onsite to offsite, from learning to mentoring, today's employees want to take many steps at a time. Feeding them innovation pedigree and providing them enough room to test and try their ideas is what today's employees look for. Offering refund for certification programs and various other training courses are no more an added benefit, but a part and parcel of their job offer now. What they want is an encouraging environment where they and their ideas are respected and given enough scope to breed, while helping them patent their ideas and innovations. While we all talk about bringing the Silicon Valley work culture to India, it is of paramount importance to understand that there exists a huge cultural difference between the Silicon Valley of the U.S. and the Silicon Valley of India. Hence, redesigning or remoulding the work environment accordingly is an important attribute that corporates should consider here. If you are looking to join or switch your organization, our current issue of Prime View Magazine’s “The 10 Best Workplaces of 2019” will help you find your perfect work fit. In this edition, we bring to you the story of some of the best work cultures and how they are committed to tune the career of their employees in the right direction to ensure their success today and tomorrow. Do read to know more about their work milieu that goes much beyond the normal HR policies and recognitions to include extraordinary steps that carve leaders out of every employee. Do let us know what you think!

THE PREEMINENT DENTAL PRODUCTS MANUFACTURING, INTRODUCING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS IN EMPLOYEE CENTRIC ENVIRONMENT New technologies and innovations are transforming the world at breathtaking speed – all the more so in medicine. There can be no medical progress without technical progress, and there is no “healthy” future without innovations. Launching innovative products and establishing operational efficiencies to achieve customer delight and raising standards of oral healthcare, GC India is a one-stop solution for dental practitioners to focus on achieving excellence in clinical dentistry. Apart from its significant role in society through dental products, it is also a trailblazer for its unique employee-centric work culture. GC products are sold in over 100 countries across the world, which include well-known brands that have been used and trusted by dentists for decades. Patients value the pleasant environment, excellent service, and modern equipment just as highly as the expertise of their dentist. With GC providing a wide range of quality products, it makes the life of a dental practitioner quite easy.
THE GUIDING FORCE
Presently, GC India is progressing under the guidance of a versatile and visionary leader, Dr. Sriram Mudambi. He is the Managing Director of the Company and has been instrumental in GC’s growth for two decades. Dr. Sriram holds extensive experience and industry knowledge. He did his post-graduation Restorative Dentistry from the National University of Singapore. THE INFANCY STAGE GC is the fairy tale of nurturing dreams, struggles, success, and growth. GC was founded in Tokyo during the hard times of the Great Depression in 1921 by a young chemist Kiyoshi NAKAO with his two friends ENJO and Tokuemon MIZUNO. The three founders had to deal with several disappointments and bitter setbacks trying to bring innovation in dental material. However, it was exactly these difficulties that led to unforeseen changes of direction and turning points that would later be crucial for the long-term success of the company. GC’s first product, "Standard Cement," was a big flop in the marketplace. However, this experience provided a great learning ground for the three founders, who realized the "importance of making products by thinking from the customer's standpoint" and fostered an "uncompromising commitment to quality." Three years later, they created "Crystalline Cement," which offered excellent quality comparable to imported materials. The dedication of the founders to making quality products has been kept alive through generations of GC men and women, and it continues to drive the company's growth through the philosophy of “SEMUI”. This theory originally comes from the Buddhist concept, “Always think and act from the viewpoint of your opponent or partner”. In the broadest sense, it represents a combination of selflessness, pure objectivity, charity, and great wisdom. From the foundation until today’s journey of NAKAOs there lies a success story of what GC is today as one of the world’s largest and most successful manufacturers & suppliers of dental products.
SERVICE & PRODUCT PORTFOLIO GC is known for gifting new concepts, technologies, and products to the dental fraternity. From the then “crystalline Cement” to glass ionomer restoratives materials all have the uniqueness of their own. Some of the widely acclaimed products of GC to Dental Industry are: ● Gold Label 1 which is India’s highest-selling luting cement. ● All-round restorative with outstanding invisible aesthetics G aenial with new injection moulding technique for Gaenial Universal Injectable. ● New Fibre reinforced materials EverX Flow. ● New generation nanohybrid technology of Sculpt series ● Evolution in glass ionomer restorative to glass hybrid Ionomer Equia Forte ● Celebrating over 5 years of successful Flexceed in India: the vinylpolysiloxane impression material whose flowability of Putty-Wash is better than any other brands GC is a pioneer in taking the initiative not only to advance product development but also to support the evolution of the latest concept of dentistry, namely ‘Minimal Intervention dentistry’. GC instituted a unique MI (Minimal Intervention) concept in 2000 by rephrasing the original MI concept proposed by the FDI in 1999 and defining the three approaches of ‘Identity’, ‘Prevention’ and ‘Treatment & Control’ to better fit the clinical situation. Since then, GC’s MI concept has always formed the basis of the company’s product development. In Digital Dentistry too GC is at the forefront with the digital product portfolio like Aadva IOS, Cerasmart, Proceed ceramic, Optiglaze, Lustre Paste and G- CEM LinkForce- the universal luting solution.
A GLIMPSE OF HEALTHCARE SECTOR In the dental industry, there are several trends going on today but all of them have one clear link: minimally invasive dentistry. The ultra-conservative approach is gaining more relevance as technology provides us with better materials that allow minimum thickness while keeping the same physical properties with unrivalled aesthetics. So in the fast-moving time, it’s very much required to keep pace with the market demand and update the products accordingly. “We are Customer Focused. Continuous feedback and learning from the customer is vital to stay ahead of the competition and deliver impactful products”, asserts Dr. Sriram. “The real KEY is to first gain the mindshare of our patients, followed by wallet-share. This sequence brings about factors such as “name, fame and respect” over a period of time. All this can be achieved if we first change our mindset. There is no such thing as cheap and best. Quality will have to be the focus,” he adds.
OVERCOMING THE HICCUPS, MEASURING THE SUCCESS A few of the challenges in the pharma & medical device industries today are economic slowdown, Product liability, Customer cliff and not keeping up with Technology. GC India has a consistent growth in terms of business and is constantly upgrading the product portfolio keeping in mind the Indian customers’ needs and requirements following all the industry regulations. Because of differing requirements in the various overseas markets, GC has very deliberately localized its European, US, and Asian operations. GC has lost no time in optimizing its on-site activities, while at the same time fulfilling its obligation as a local enterprise to actively participate in each country’s dental industry associations. Human Resource is another biggest asset of GC India who is with the organization from a long period sharing and believing the philosophy of GC, even in the time when attrition tends to be higher in the industry.
EMPLOYEE ETHOS All employees at GC act as members of a big family, where they remove themselves from egocentric thoughts and respect their fellows, or "Nakama." They also strive to think from the customer's standpoint and make true products by placing a priority on the value these products provide for customers. GC’s commitment to achieving excellent quality is firmly rooted in all employees irrespective of their departments whether to research, production sales or else. To encourage creativity & innovation, all GC employees are been given freedom of work and expressing and executing new ideas & concepts. The management is also concerned with the mental and physical fitness of every employee and through a balanced diet in office, regular exercise regime. WORKING AT GC INDIA DENTAL With the diversity of its Associates(employees), GC India Dental values and respects the dignity of all, and recognizes that the long-term success of our company is dependent on all our Associates working together as a family to meet the goals, objectives and directions of the organization. Associate strengths of GC India Dental are tapped across the Regions. As such the working culture and environment in GC India is very diversified and professional. The HR Department at GC India Dental always endeavours to ensure that Associates are provided with sound guidelines of the policies and procedures. The Department also ensures that all Associates fully understand their roles and responsibilities to the organization and the organization’s responsibility to them. BUILDING LONG TERM CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS The main Management Principles of GC are based on both external and internal customer: ● To contribute to society through the improvement of oral health ● To improve corporate quality and meet customers' trust and expectations ● To create a team of GC Associates full of energy and respect Along with these, GC India constantly strives to listen and immediately address the customer's requirement, complaints and queries through the VOC process. GC has started the GC Membership Society operates in order to build close relationships with the dental professionals and to share as much information as possible about the products and latest information to help facilitate their daily practices.
FEATHERS IN THE CAP Today, with consistent daily quality activity, the GC entities have received ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 13485 certification. And over the year, with its excellence, it has been honoured with multiple awards: ● It is the first company in the dental industry to receive the internationally renowned Deming Award in 2000. ● GC also received the Japan Quality Medal in 2004, the highest recognition for quality man agement in organizations. ● GC received the Selection Committee Special Award of the 1st Japan Open Innovation Prize in 2019 ● GC was ranked second in the 10th Quality Management Level Research, conducted by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers ● GC ranked No.1 in the 9th Quality Management Level Research 2016 ● GC was ranked 2nd in the 2014 Quality Management Level Survey WHAT’S ON THE CARD FOR THE COMPANY “Looking ahead to the 100th anniversary in 2021, GC is making continued efforts under Vision 2021 to become the number one dental company in the world through further contributing to a healthy, long-living society. President Makoto NAKAO has presented five key phrases for vision 2021: “Human being,” “Innovation of technology,” “Globalization,” “Advanced information society” and “Value-creating management.” These five key phrases are considered to be intertwined to create a new business environment in dentistry.

East Corp Group Quintessential Fire Safety Services with Fire, Security and Safety During the initial twenty years of Hemant’s career, he gained experience in the same domain with different companies. He was always passionate of doing things differently and take responsibility in whatever he pursued. However, during last six years as CEO of the company, as a serial entrepreneur he felt the responsibility not evolves about himself but also building team and brand around him in the market. Each day as an opportunity to learn and achieve something that encourages and excites Hemant and its team. Hemant is on mission to take his group to the next level from day one and never felt discouraged of being an entrepreneur in a price sensitive economy.
Out-of-the-Box Services and Solutions East Corp is a growing company with resources of fourteen people and serving clients not only PAN India but also SAARC countries. Currently, the company is operated from Mumbai. The brand expanded as a group providing consulting services in Fire, Security and Safety. The Group is engaged with end-users, architects, developers, industries and contractors in terms of Consulting, Audits and Awareness trainings. All three pillars; Fire, Security and Safety are vital and interdependent for many customers. It becomes convenient for these facility owners to deal with the company as one point of contact. Moreover, they don’t sell any products or systems and hence their unbiased, technical approach sets them apart from the competition, making them truly independent third party trusted and professional consultants.
Conversion of Hemant’s Rich Experience into Fruitful Fire Safety Startup Hemant Khadse is CEO of the Group company. He started his career in year 1994 with Mather and Platt Ltd Mumbai, then a leading British company in Fire system solutions. Since then, he continued working in same industry but played different roles in various organizations in India and Middle East. During the first twenty years of employment, he gained in-depth understanding of this industry – demand and supply. He came up with business plan and it was not only to begin start a commercial entity but a platform where he can exchange his experience and elevate the fire safety standards in the form of consulting and training services. This is how Hemant’s independent consultant journey started in 2013.
Awards and Achievement
Hemant Khadse 22
Group CEO
Last year, East Corp was awarded as Top 20 Safety consulting company by Silicon India Bangalore. Hemant was also privileged to receive honor as Top 30 dynamic CEO in India from Startup City Magazine. Apart from media mentions, Hemant values each customer feedback which drives the company to do better every day. 24
Growing Mindset of People for Safety and Security Growing concerns of safety and rising security thefts issues in India, making facility owners to opt for experienced professionals to guide them in the process of making them non-compliant to compliant and unsafe to safe-secure place. There is notable change in the perception of users when they engage professional consultants as at present they consider it as a long-term investment rather an immediate expense.
Making Aware People About Significance of Fire Safety India being price sensitive marketplace, safety security is given least or last importance. Business wakes only when something directly affects them. Users are still unaware of the best practices and statutory compliances that may prevent their losses or danger rather paying for the risk. East Corp conducts various free training awareness programs on fire safety but some people still consider it’s not meant for them. This mindset needs to change.
Long-term Customer Relations has High Contribution in Company’s Success Hemant truly believes “people buy from People. Winning trust is the key in any business and he always has this objective in mind while dealing with people. The company is in the domain of protecting someone’s life, property and environment and hence utmost care is taken while delivering our services. Company’s biggest asset so far is their customer relationship and trust that they build in the industry.
Motivation, Creativity and Innovation Hemant’s passion is to interact with people and solve their issues with required abilities/knowledge in the best possible manner. Company’s professional team is trained to deliver the solutions responsibly. Although the work is may be repetitive, however each customer offerings is different and specific. This cultivates innovation and creativity within the team.
Work on Long-term Relationships instead of Shortcuts
Hemant’s wise words for maintaining long-term relationships include, “Never follow short cuts for immediate gain and treat our customers as long term business partner. Transparent and professional approach always build strong bond with your customer and once we take care of his problems, he takes care of you well.
East Corp was not born it was built. It was created on a collection of WKRXJKWV JDSV LQ RXU ĆHOGV systems and resources. We provide engineering and technical support and our practices are driven by thought leaders, collaborators, communicators, forward-thinkers. Multiplied Growth in Future Currently, East Corp has created a group of companies focusing Fire, Security and Safety verticals independently and offerings; Audit, Consulting and Trainings solutions to the market. The company has its footprints in India and SAARC. In terms of consulting solutions, the company wishes to be the preferred choice of customer and achieve 10X growth by 2022.
Useful Insight East Corp is doubling their business every year without compromising quality service. Interested corporate industry should come forward and associate their training awareness programmes under CSR program for mutual benefit.

The Best Service provider in the Healthcare Industry Healthspring has established many “firsts” in the healthcare delivery in our country. Some of the firsts include: 1) Group Practice Concept: Established the country’s first group practice at the Primary care level. We provide not only full time GP services, but also a team of equally important health care professionals such as Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Medical Technicians and administrative support and management and a strong IT System for Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 2) HS EMS Service: A doctor led, first of its kind System Driven Emergency Medical Response System (EMS), available 24 hours 365 Days for the community where we have set up our centres. The team closely monitors every development and is with the patient throughout even in the event that hospitalization may be required. Out of 1000+ Emergency calls attended so far, only 20% had to be hospitalised. 3) Family Medicine – A Team Approach by Caregivers: We provide all essential facilities as primary care givers under one roof, with an aim to bring back the family doctor concept. Our Centres have the following facilities under one roof: General Physician, Dental services, Mental Health, Pathology, Physiotherapy, Dietician, Pharmacy, Radiology, Home Care, and Emergency. 4) Electronic Medical Record: Our electronic medical record system enables our members to see their reports anytime, anywhere. Our patient management system ensures continuity of care by making patient reports available to our doctor’s real time. The system doesn’t compromise patient confidentiality. 5) Road map to Good Health: A proprietary, IT enabled Health analysis report which compiles patient’s history, Lab results and creates risk profile based on International standards and evidence based medicine. This road map provides personalised, targeted and achievable goals and summarises onward management. 28

The corporate tax cut announcement by the Finance minister on 20th Sept 2019 has come as a game and sentiment changer for India Inc. The slash in effective rate from 34.9% to 25.2% (including surcharge), will have a long term ripple effect throughout the economy. An equally far reaching step has been the announcement of a special 17% rate for new companies incorporated on or after 1st Oct 2019 (and starting new manufacturing facilities before March 2023.) These measures have created an air of optimism in the market not seen in a long time. The tax cut will lead to cash retention of around Rs 1.45 lakh cr with the corporate sector. These tax savings will become major risk-capital available with the companies. Lower tax would mean money saved for years together. Companies may utilise this retained cash for lowering prices, future capex investment and expansion, debt de-leveraging or dividends/buybacks. This in turn will create credit demand for banks. On the other side, it may lead to reduced NPA stress and also put money in hands of customers/investors. This, compounded with PSU bank recapitalisation, the banks will find themselves in an advantageous position after a long time. The 2nd element of the tax cut provides a special 17% rate for new manufacturing companies. This basically is the strongest pitch that India has made for FDI in a long time. In one fell swoop, this measure has brought the tax rate lower than most countries in the ASEAN region. This would augur well for companies moving away from China. Government deserves all the laurels for these slew of measures. But it must not stop at that. Now that India has wrest the initiative, we must build up on the momentum. The availability of land, access to market, and supportive labour laws are business-efficiency and viability issues. Government must help in reducing these barriers for investors. And it is our studied understanding that government is aware of these issues and may look to address the same in the future. 30
Earnings Boost Investment Uptick
GDP Growth Corporation tax rate cut
Consumption Boost
Capital Inflows Job Creation
There is this concern that the forgone revenue receipt by the government may lead to fiscal pressure. The expected fiscal deficit is likely to be around 3.7% post the new corporate rates. While this may be true, yet we believe that the growth boost from this measure may lead to greater tax revenue over the long term. For PE rerating there would be more steps required. Since we have increased tax rebate to corporate India, there is a gap on the fiscal side which needs to be bridged. If it is bridged through asset divestment, that is strategic divestment and not market divestment, then the market will get rerated. Moreover, if we bridge the gap on borrowing side by sovereign bond issue or by attractive FPI capital into the Indian bond market, then certainly market will get rerated. In the short term though, the expectation of fiscal pressure has caused some spike in yield. The yields may remain relatively high until it becomes clear as to how the government will aim to mitigate the potential rise in fiscal deficit. However, we believe that the companies will now have a better interest coverage ratio and debt servicing capability. Thus, the spreads of high quality corporates may in fact come down over a period of time. Moreover, the low inflation still continues to provide cushion for rate cut, albeit in a more staggered manner. The tax rebate is a step in the right direction - it is a bazooka move! It has changed the sentiment significantly, opened many more possibilities for rapid growth in days to come, however, we need to support it by some more innovative steps like strategic divestment, sovereign bond issue or inclusion on India in the bond index, which attracts more permanent FPI capital in the debt market. We had pointed out earlier that market is likely to bounce back once the government comes out with a stimulus package. While the market run-up was steep and quick; we believe that the market still remains in around fair-value zone. There is still buying opportunity in the market due to panic selling that had happened earlier, especially in the mid and small cap segment. For this very reason, we believe that a staggered approach to investment in mid/ smallcaps; and in large-mid cap category fund, is a lucrative option. Lumpsum investors can look at investing through balanced advantage fund (BAF) with follow-on STP flowing into one of the above equity funds. Fixed income investors can look to invest in credit fund and Short term bond funds. Dynamic bond fund may also be a lucrative bet if yield spikes significantly from current levels. To summarize, the India story is coming back on track. The next few months will be critical as to how we compete in the global arena to attract foreign capital and trade incentives. The political dispensation is clearly at it. India’s vast strength, its influential diaspora and cultural goodwill, amongst other things, must be mobilised to fulfil the very achievable 5 trillion-dollar dream. 31

KUMAR SUBRAMANIAM Co-Founder & CEO The Role Played by 75Health in the Modern Healthcare Ecosystem 75Health is an efficient and reliable health information technology services provider that offers practice-specific EHR solutions. In addition to efficiently organizing critical health information, the 75Health EHR enables providers and healthcare organizations to improve their practice and revenues. 75Health specializes in creating client-centric health information systems such as practice management systems, personal health records, medical billing systems, and electronic medical record software.
Innovations in the Modern EHR Improve Patient Safety and Experience With the powerful partnership between information technology and the modern healthcare industry, several innovations have been made possible. This combination has given birth to unprecedented health information technologies (HIT) that greatly improve care quality. One of these effective and useful tools and technologies is the extensively adopted Electronic Health Record (EHR) Software. Helping to bridge the gap between healthcare practitioners and patients, the modern electronic health record systems have since their inception been assisting medical professionals across the globe in various ways. By adopting this efficient medical information tool, patient care is expedited and practice work flow is streamlined from initial point-of-contact up to the last leg in care delivery. In order to ensure that the widely-used electronic health record software facilitates a superior and futuristic practice, providers are encouraged to move in tune with the salient features and innovations in the EHR system.
A lot of areas require healthcare innovation: According to survey conducted on B2B healthcare technology marketers, interoperability happens to be the most needed technology innovation in healthcare. Half of the respondents believed that technology is crucial for improving patient experience, while an equal number are hopeful and wish to witness more progress in the modern EHR Systems. The following key innovations are about to enhance patient experience:
Fast-tracking vaccinations:
Research by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, there has been a rapid rise in use of influenza vaccinations due to clinical alerts. A drastic increase has been seen over a short time span. Patients between the age group of 3 years to 19 years have been found to have completed 15 out of the expected 10 vaccinations. This success rate has been attributed to the use of innovative EHR System. 34
Information-based decisions ensure better care delivery: Health-
care providers are assisted by clinical decision support tools in providing the most optimal care to patients. With seamlessly scheduled and cross referenced refill alerts, potential allergies and reactions are eliminated. Accurate scheduling of appointments reduces wait time, thus enhancing productivity and efficiency. These are made possible by the innovations in the patient health records in the form of EHR Systems.
Preemptive care ensures better results: The integrated application of patient portal configured in EHR Systems facilitates patients in several ways. Proving to be a safe haven, the patient portal enables scheduling of appointments round-the-clock, while providing real-time information about patients to providers. Patient demographics, lab results, and several other data are available here. Basic EHR functionalities and certain practice-specific capabilities help healthcare providers immensely in improving care delivery. Data automation facilitates smooth work flows: Entering notes and orders such as drugs and lab tests becomes possible using computers, thanks to the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems. Replacing the conventional method of paper charts and manual data entry, this assures accuracy and saves a lot of time. It has been proven that EHR adoption helps minimize medication errors by more than half. Validity of the data is ensured, thus warranting a smooth work flow in practices. Increased quality translates to reduced costs: Better lab access and automated processes ensure that data duplication is reduced. This helps improve the quality of care delivered to patients consistently. EHR solutions enable practices and physicians to stay on track with the most modern measures and preventive treatment, in addition to clinical alerts. Equipped with the improved and new view of critical paitent information such as patient charts based on cholesterol, weight, and so on, providers are enabled to increase care quality. Healthcare providers’ revenue increases: Implementation of the innovative EHR System facilitates faster processes and accurate information. Providers are enabled to see more patients. An increase in the number of patients seen to the tune of about 25% is facilitated due to EHR usage. Healthcare organizations get higher chances to recover their investment, sometimes within a year of EHR implementation. Practice-specific care delivery:
EHR systems can be created with specialty-specific functionalities. These help practitioners and their supporting staff to save considerable time by focusing better on their intended specialty. Reports can be customized according to specialty, while consuming less time. Cloud-based EHRs facilitate 24/7 access to data, making it quite convenient for providers.
Efficient and secure information exchange: Timely and easy availability of critical health data to all stakeholders is ensured by interoperability. Labs, pharmacies, insurance companies, and other services involved in care are enabled to access the required data. Medication errors are eliminated and unnecessary readmissions are avoided. HIPAA compliance ensures protecting personal health information. Contagious disease tracking and other such vital functions are available in the innovative EHR. Personal data is safeguarded against breaches of any kind. Data analytics: Machine learning and predictive analysis assist practices and clinicians in combating
diseases. Technology usage helps keep track of and avoid autoimmune diseases such as HIV. Future prospects include innovative wearable technology that is about to further increase data accuracy by collecting and analyzing potential insights.Increasing information accuracy and enabling coordinated care delivery by multiple caregivers or specialists, the modern EHR Software ensures considerably increasing quality and patient safety.

There is no future, the future is now Communication has never been something that the consumers love. Who likes being propositioned? Who likes being told that their lives are incomplete without the wonderful product that we have? The whiter shirt, the colorful tunic, the enticing smell, the fast car, the most enjoyable drink and such are all marketing legends that the brands love to tell their audience. They have been saying it and saying it successfully for many years with decent success. Brands have been clever, they have always leveraged the available media channels to push brand messages. Brands were clever to see that newspapers are getting popular, so they printed flyers and inserted into newspapers. They say cinema getting popular, so they made smaller cinema films to connect with viewers. In each case, the media owners may or may not have chased the brands, but the brands found a way to make them work towards their end. Globally, mass media and brands do work hand in hand to broadcast messages. It was a linear way of messaging though. Brands had something to say, the consumers either chose to listen or chose to ignore. The messages were beamed depending on where the consumers were, so that the message is not lost on them. The measurement industry blossomed as the media expanded and helped the brands ‘target’ better. This model worked well for some time, till the technology became a lot more commonplace. In-fact a lot of what can be called as science fiction, became a part of their lives. Phones that had no cord, internet that wasn’t confined to desks, outdoor billboards that didn’t have a dumb static message always, and TV that is now in your hands and not just on walls. It became difficult for the brands, media stopped being linear and brands had to find a way to deal with the clutter. Future had truly arrived. The great thing was that both consumers and brands found a way to move on. They watched more, they read more, they heard more, they consumed more media. Media was always around them. Brands were quick to latch on and they never let the consumers miss them. 40

Forget just brands, world over politicians released that the consumers are always on, and they started to connect with potential voters. The voters played ball and were willing to handover their future to the one who advertised better. By all stretch of imagination this phase of brand communication should have been very tough. Linear communication was going out of fashion, consumer was consuming more media, and the consumer was happy not watching brand’s messages if it didn’t interest them. What really happened in the exact opposite. Brand messages exploded, the ‘content’ became more entertaining, celebrities became more important to draw eyeballs, a new kind of celebrities emerged called ‘influencers’ who were ordinary people but with a massive social presence and brands found many ways to connect with consumers. The relationship between brands and consumers found a new track. The divorce that was supposed to happen never happened
And that is where the future conversation comes in. A few things haven’t changed, the consumers still don’t like being propositioned. They still will not want to watch advertising. Brands have too many choices. Now they also have too many formats. A few things have changed. Not just linear, even targeted mass media is transforming. Brands can target the consumer almost as an individual, tailor messages by location, interest and hundreds of other variables. They can create experiences that draw the consumer in and keep them engaged for longer time. As a consumer, it is easiest to avoid advertising today, sometimes just by choice, sometimes by a software and sometimes by paying. The linearity that existed in brand worked also has changed. For instance, earlier the consumer had a relationship with its favorite restaurant, so it was open to have a conversation with them. Now there is also an aggregator in between, and the three-way relationship has its own unique challenge. As a consumer, who do I remember: the restaurant or the aggregator? This three-way, and sometimes four-way relationship is becoming a much bigger issue for brands and even bigger issue for consumers. All this is happening right now. What I see happen are two things. One, the brand have to be intrusive by design. There are many ways of being intrusive, it doesn’t always need to be a hard sell Two, the brands have to be fluid and flexible. There are no rules that they can live by. If one social network changed the way consumers and brands connected, another network almost overnight can change that very dynamic. This is the joy of the times we live in. There is no distant future. Future is tomorrow.

ENTREPRENUERSHIP A PASSION MORE THAN BUSINESS Being an Entrepreneur
E
ntrepreneurship means being able to take action and having the courage to commit and persevere through all of the challenges and failures. Being an entrepreneur is neither a full-time job nor a part-time job.
People, keep asking questions and pondering, is having a good idea and a good investment is all you require to be an entrepreneur. To all those budding business enthusiasts, I would like to apprise them by saying, to be an entrepreneur you need to take risks, make your work your passion and create opportunities for yourself surpassing those hurdles. Just because you dreamt of building that billion-dollar Company doesn’t mean that, when you turn your ideas into products and inject some money into marketing them, you’ll become the next success story in your niche. The world of entrepreneurship is filled with uncertainties. There will be hardships on the way, but stumbling from one failure to another would eventually lead you to success. For a good entrepreneur, you need to be a doer and a dreamer. What makes a remarkable entrepreneur is the fact that they would willingly go to a tremendous extent in order to transform their vision into a business. The truth is entrepreneurship is like a constant struggle that every visionary out there has the tenacity to battle. It is using the past experiences and intelligence to make smart decisions and this process forms the core of any true entrepreneur. To embark on that journey of being a successful entrepreneur, you need to keep a few points in mind that might help you to ignite that inner passion you have and work towards realizing it.
Are you willing to give it all? Thinking that being an entrepreneur is just working for a few years and then cozying up is not going to make you a great one if you want to set a mark and create that dent on the universe. The only way to master the craft, to survive, and to last long as an entrepreneur is to constantly learn and unlearn making your dream a reality. That’s what you must do if you’re serious about becoming a successful entrepreneur. I have been in the media industry for so long, but still, it’s a constant work in progress towards making that name, reputation and realizing those dreams. If life throws a lemon at you, you make lemonade out of it and sell it in a hot scorching heat at high prices. That’s how a mind of an entrepreneur should work, overcoming hurdles and making the best out of the situation. There’s no guarantee that your target market will patronize your products. There’s no assurance whether you’ll make a profit in the first year (or the second, or ever). There’s no guarantee that whether you’ll be able to become the next success story in your industry. But that shouldn’t deter you from your plan. Realizing that mistakes are inevitable and failure is always a possibility. Yet using that to power the passion, to keep building and refining the ideas until they succeed is the only shortcut to accomplish that dream. So execute your dreams and ideas, because, as author Robin Sharma puts it, “Ideation without execution is a delusion.” Your ideas might not sell. You just have to take the risk. So build, launch and work tirelessly to succeed at your new time-consuming career.

Thrive for Innovation Innovation being a heterogeneous construct encompasses of at least two processes. Generating new useful ideas to establish and maintain that unique factor is the very first process of that construct Next comes, the process to achieve that innovative outcome and execute those ideas. Being an entrepreneur is not a one-man showmanship. You need to build up a team that surrounds yourself with people that share your passion and agrees with your goals. Unless and until the whole team is on the same page, building a strong force would be an impossible task. One surely needs a proficient work behavior from the employees and for that, you need to give them the full freedom to put on their thinking caps, embrace that connect and innovate. One should make a mental note of this point that creativity although is very much related to innovation, is only a starting point. Courage You need to have devotion towards your vision, and as a matter of fact, a very few people are able to stay true to that passion as it takes a lot of risks. I believe the entrepreneurs who make it big and achieve their dreams are people that are driven by some cause that compels them to find the courage and take certain risks and work damn hard at it. Sometimes that choice is lonely, which is another reason it takes a huge amount of courage. You need to believe in your vision and have to have the courage to do the right thing. One should remember that fearing the failure is the wrong track. You should fear to be in the same position and situation as you are today. In the end just remember, the world around us is changing at a warp speed and one needs to be able to move with it. Understand your market, the trends and then devise your ideas by executing them with a well-formulated strategy. Keep plugging along, putting in the hours, and before long, you’ll be a successful entrepreneur. Just imagine looking back at all the hard work and knowing it paid off. Keep that image in your head to motivate you forward through the long, slogging hours. 44
