Thoughtful Tidbits Writen By:
Shay Rivers
Everyone is so quick to say "you don't know what you got until it's gone"When speaking in reference to loosing something or someone good.
This expression has always confused me. I don't know about you but......
Why must one have to be without that something good to realize it wasn't worth loosing to begin with?Kind of silly if you ask me. Is it not possible to realize what you have while you still got it? Of course it is but for one main reason many have lost out on good relationships and jobs. Many get so comfortable in their situation that they no longer feel the
need to do the things they once did to obtain the relationship, friendship, job...whatever. Like once you got what you were working for effort is no longer needed. When in fact you should be working just as hard if not harder. You should NEVER get too comfortable. There is always someone working to take your place and just waiting on the moment YOU mess it up.

Don't appreciate your mate? Cool someone else will. Tired of working? Fine, someone without work been looking for a job for months. Simple as that, what you won't do someone else will. "What one person didn't appreciate the next one will" Always remember that....

Hearty & Healthy
Nutrient-rich ingredients, simple prep are keys to easy, healthy family meal times
(BPT) - With summer in the rearview mirror, many Americans will now be pressed for time: Fall (when kids go back to school) and winter (dominated by the holidays) are jam-packed seasons. It may be difficult to find time for everything you need to do, including eating regular meals together as a family. Research shows that sitting down for family meals yields many benefits, from serving as a time to bond, to instilling healthy dining habits in children. Yet multiple studies also show that only about a
third of families actually eat dinner together on a regular basis. Americans commonly cite busy schedules as the biggest hurdle for eating together as a family. "Regularly sitting down to dine with their parents is incredibly healthful for kids, both mentally and physically," says registered dietitian Lyssie Lakatos. "It's well worth the effort to ensure your family can share regular, well-balanced meals together. And you can do it! You just need some creativity, planning and powerfully nutritious ingredients."
Published By 3Macs And A Nerd Productions 2016
Lakatos offers some tips to help parents honor the healthful tradition of family meal time: * Invest 15 minutes every weekend to plan the week's dinner menus in advance. Knowing what you'll be making ensures you won't have the stress of coming up with ideas at the last minute when everyone is hungry; you'll also be able to shop efficiently for ingredients you know you'll need. Plus, kids will enjoy looking forward to the evening when you'll serve their favorite foods. You can also make the process easy by

using an online menu planner. * Simplicity is a time-saver. Dinner might not be the best time to take risks and prepare something no one has tried before. A simple meal takes less time to prepare, and may also be more enticing to kids. Choose simple, nutritious meals that incorporate the key components of the USDA MyPlate. * Choose lean, versatile and delicious proteins - like eggs, lentils or fish - that are nutrient-rich. Eggland's Best eggs come from hens fed an all-vegetarian diet of healthy grains, canola oil and a supplement of rice bran, alfalfa, sea kelp and vitamin E, an antioxidant. They contain three times more vitamin B12, two times more omega-3s, five times more vitamin D, 38 percent more lutein and 25 percent less saturated fat than ordinary eggs. * Get everyone involved. Family meal time is an opportunity to teach kids good nutrition, culinary skills and life lessons, all while bonding in a relaxed atmosphere. Involve children in meal preparation by assigning them age-appropriate tasks such as setting the table, pouring drinks, gathering ingredients and even cooking. * Disconnect from tech 30 minutes to an hour before the meal. Many families have a no-device policy at the dinner table, but by putting down technology in advance you free up everyone to help out. You'll also ensure no one is late to the table because they have to send one last text - this means you too, parents! "The importance of family meals just can't be understated," Laka-
tos says. "There's even a month in honor of the family meal - September is National Family Meal Month, sponsored by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Foundation. It's a great time to get back to having regular family meals together." Here are two easy, delicious and nutritious family meal recipes that take less than 30 minutes to prepare, courtesy of Eggland's Best: Chicken Parmesan Cupcakes All kids love cupcakes and they love cheese, so this marries the two, plus the nutrition of Eggland's Best eggs-what could be better? Ingredients: Chicken Mixture 1 Eggland's Best Egg (large) 1 pound ground chicken 3 tablespoons Italian-flavored bread crumbs 2 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic 1/2 teaspoon onion salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper Coating 1 Eggland's Best Egg (large), lightly beaten 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup Italian-flavored bread crumbs opping 1/2 cup marinara pasta sauce 4 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes 4 Cheese Italian Blend, cut into quarters Directions: Heat oven to 350 Fahrenheit degrees. Lightly spray eight muffin pan cups with no-stick cooking spray; set aside. Combine all chicken mixture ingredients in bowl; mix well. Shape into eight meatballs. Place flour, bread crumbs and egg
into separate shallow dishes. Lightly roll each meatball in flour, then beaten egg, then bread crumbs. Pat each meatball into bottom of each prepared muffin cup, flattening top. Bake 15 minutes. Top each meatball with 1 tablespoon marinara sauce and two quarters cheese. Bake 3-5 minutes or until internal temperature of chicken reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit and center is no longer pink. Cool 1-2 minutes in pan. Serve warm and enjoy! Pizza Frittata Ingredients: 4 Eggland's Best eggs, large 3 large Idaho potatoes, peeled 1 tablespoon olive oil 4 sun dried tomatoes, packed in oil, thinly sliced 1/2 cup sliced black olives 2 tablespoons pesto 4 ounces turkey pepperoni 4 ounces shredded provolone cheese Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Peel potatoes and slice thin using a knife or mandolin slicer. Arrange potatoes on a 12-inch pizza pan (or in a baking dish) and drizzle with olive oil. Bake potatoes for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk eggs, tomatoes, olives and pesto in a large bowl. Remove potatoes from oven and pour egg mixture over pan. Top with cheese and pepperoni and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Join newly single, twenty something, Evie on a series of first-date misadventures in an effort to find her A.D.A.M. (A down-right amazing man!) It had been about two months since Evie saw John. She was out on a “play date” with her chronically platonic friend, Reggie. They had been friends since middle school and he has always been her ear whenever she needed to talk or vent. Reggie and Evie have held each other down through seven breakups, 10 crazy hookups, and 4 arrests. There was no friendship like theirs, but somehow their friendship was a problem for the people they dated. Maybe it was because they went out on “play dates,” which they would treat like any other date, minus the touchyfeely kissing and the sex. There was never any of that with Evie and Reggie. That rule was deeply established YEARS ago. When they were in the 7th grade, Reggie and Evie met and became fast friends. After a few months, and the prodding of their mutual friends, Reggie tried to kiss Evie under the bleachers at a basketball game. Evie quickly slapped Reggie’s face and reminded him that they are friends. “And if you want to continue to be my friend, this will NEVER happen again.” Reggie never tried to kiss Evie again, as his face was hurting pretty bad; throb-
bing in fact. It was at that moment he decided that he’d rather have Evie as a friend than an enemy. He brought them popsicles from the concession stand and watched her eat hers as he used his to heal his reddish cheek. Evie and Reggie were out on a “play date” when they ran into John. He was dating a new girl. By the looks of it, she barely graduated high school. They stopped and spoke for a few moments, exchanging pleasantries, until John’s date, the toddler, exclaimed that she needed to find a bathroom. John escorted her into the nearest store, but quickly returned to Evie. Reggie ran off to grab the car and she stood under a single streetlight, leaning against the pole, checking Facebook in her teal dress and heels. John tapped her on the shoulder and Evie spun around quickly, slapping him square in the face. “OW!” John shouted. Evie quickly apologized, noting that she assumed she was under attack from some strange person. After they laughed it off, John pulled a folded note from his pocket and handed it to Evie. She looked at the small note quizzically before looking back into
Chasing A.D.A.M.
John’s eyes. “What’s this?” John explained that he wrote a letter to her the day after they last saw each other. He’d been keeping the note in his wallet just in case he saw her again. Today is your lucky day, Evie thought to herself. John looked handsome as always, but it bothered Evie that he doesn’t know the relationship between Reggie and her, but he decided to try and approach her anyway. Normally that would be an immediate turn-off, but this situation calls for a bit more research. Reggie pulled up to the curb where Evie was standing with John. He hopped out, ran around, and opened the door for Evie, causing John to step aside. Once she was in, Reggie extended his hand to shake John’s. When John extended his hand, Reggie pulled him in and reminded John that Evie is loved. “She doesn’t need to be hurt a second time, man.” Reggie hopped into the driver’s side of his soot grey Jaguar. He cracked the windows and pulled off into the night, leaving John to welcome his Elementaryaged date back from the restroom.

How to use color psychology when painting your home (BPT) - Do you ever wonder why you feel immediately relaxed when you enter a spa, yet when you enter a gym, you feel alert and energized? The answer can be found in the colors selected to decorate the space. "Interior designers use color psychology to evoke an emotional response," says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. "Homeowners can use this strategy to connect colors with emotions and memories to create one-of-a-kind spaces."
Color psychology starts by exploring warm and cool hues and then using these different tones to manipulate mood throughout your home. It's easy to do with the tips below. Warm color families Red, orange and yellow are considered warm colors since they are associated with images of heat, like fire or sunshine. Warm families of color are bold and powerful when incorporated into home design. Yellows
Because yellow reflects light, it's an excellent choice for foyers and dark hallways. Its cheery nature has the ability to create an uplifting mood in homes. Rich yellows are great accent colors because they catch the eye. A great color to consider is Wadden's favorite: Butterscotch SW 6377. "This color isn't for the faint of heart," she says. "The color features an acidy, deep mustard feel but is a great accent color paired with neutrals. I find its

pop can really spark up a room." Reds Reds evoke feelings of passion, energy and intimacy, so it's an excellent color for workout rooms and master bedrooms. Red also inspires the appetite, so is a logical choice for dining rooms or kitchens.
Greens Green tones provide a feeling of familiarity because they are found throughout nature. Light greens are ideal for living rooms and offices; dark greens are wonderfully rich as accent colors. Vivid greens add unexpected pop, notes Sherwin-Williams Senior de-
Veri Berri SW 9069. "Its a rich berry tone that is playful," she says. "This would make a really dramatic accent wall color in any room; I could even see this as a really fresh front door color."

Blue is soothing and elicits feelings of relaxation, which is perfect for bedrooms and bathrooms. Alternatively, blues should be kept out of the kitchen because it's a color that's associated with appetite suppression.
signer Karrie Hodge, who likes Marea Baja SW 9185. "I really like dark colors and this color reminds me of the deep turquoise part of the ocean," she says. "This would make a great front door color on a white or gray colored house. This color would pair well with some natural stone or brick or wood." Violets Purple tones are immediately attractive to children, making them a great paint option in playrooms or bonus rooms. Additionally, violet is also a stunning accent color in bathrooms.
"I love cool greenish blues," says Plank. "Blue Sky 0063 is from our historic palette and is a calming hue that works in virtually every room."
When it comes to the violet family of colors, Hodge likes the versatility of
Michael Plank, director of color marketing and design services for Sherwin-Williams, enjoys Chinese Red SW0057. "Chinese Red is one of my perennial favorites to play off dark stains with its saturated and sophisticated nature," he says. "Rich in hue as it is in Chinese culture; the harbinger of joy and fortune." Oranges Orange has a friendly attitude that awakens and welcomes. Never understated, orange works well in family rooms and is a playful choice for children's bedrooms or bonus rooms. Orange tones can also integrate into other colors, such as Coral Reef SW6606. "Ever since I was little I had a love affair with orange," says Wadden. "I painted my daughter's room Coral Reef. I love the rich complexity of the color." Cool color families Blue, green and violet are considered cool colors because the inherent tones of each shade. Reminiscent of water and the outdoors, cool colors stimulate feelings of peace and tranquility, and are great options for bedrooms, bathrooms and patio spaces. Blues

Mistake 2: Using expired makeup Similar to the kale salad you had for lunch, your makeup comes with an expiration date. While it may not give a specific "use by" date, the general rule is to replace mascara and eyeliners every three months, liquid foundation every six months and powder eyeshadow every two years. We all struggle with letting go, with 89 percent of women hanging on to makeup just in case they need it later, according to a Stowaway Cosmetics survey. Which means at best makeup will be poor-performing, and at worst, it can bring bacteria to the skin and eyes, causing irritation. Keep in mind, the more often you use the product, especially with your
fingers, the more often you should replace it. Mistake 3: Relying on products to include your sun protection It is no secret that sunscreen helps maintain skin health. By blocking dangerous ultraviolet rays, sunscreen is a key tool to protect the skin against cancer and premature aging. Recognizing the benefits, most face lotions and products on the market today include a sunscreen ingredient. But be cautious, similar to the products in your makeup bag, sunscreens do not last forever and should be replenished. While sunscreens are designed to remain at original strength for up to three years, according to the Mayo Clinic, the sunscreen ingredients in
your favorite face products may not last as long. In fact, facial moisturizers and serums should be tossed after six months to a year. Be on the lookout for PAO (Period After Opening) notations on new products or look for a number followed by an M to tell you how many months after opening the product should be tossed. To be safe, be sure to use an oil-free high SPF face sunscreen after your moisturizer to provide any extra level of protection all summer long.

Keep on cruising with a regular maintenance schedule for your joints (BPT) - Whether it's a brand-new Bentley or a classic 1970 Mustang, most people have a car they dream about. If they're lucky enough to own it someday, you better believe they're going to take care of it. Regular maintenance is an essential part of keeping a vehicle in tip-top shape. The same is true of the human body, particularly the joints.
joints, similar to the care of a machine," says Matt Johnson, health and performance expert and president of On Target Living. "If you want something to last as long as possible, and to cost as little as possible over the long run, you have to do maintenance, checkups, and change the oil. Taking care of your body is no different. If you do, your joints can last until you're 80, 90, or even 100 without tendon or ligament issues."
Johnson notes that joint issues are some of the most common concerns he sees in his practice. These issues can happen at any age, although many start to manifest between the ages of 40 and 50, after years of wear and tear cause pain and inflammation.
"Prevention is the only thing that actually prolongs the health of your

Johnson's mantra: If you take care of the body it will take care of you. To help people of any age maintain joint health, he provides this fourpoint joint maintenance plan.
4. Exercise and body alignment You can't have optimal joint function if the body is out of alignment. There are five key joint checkpoints: ankle, knee, hip, shoulder and neck. This is where you start to achieve perfect posture, after which you can focus on strengthening the large muscles.
1. Rest The first part of healing the joints is to rest the joints. Massage, meditation, light yoga, stretching, and cool baths are great ways to rest the joints. Additionally, quality sleep each night is essential. (Quick tip: Take an epsom salt bath once a week.)
2. Healing Nutrients Studies show that omega-3 fats can help support joint health by limiting inflammation after exercise and boosting hormones that help the body heal. Take a daily, high-quality omega-3 supplement like Nordic Naturals that has been third-party tested for purity, and is known for its great, non-fishy taste.
3. Superfoods Superfood herbs and spices help the body get maximum nutrients in minimal amounts. For example, curcumin and bromelain are both great for helping joint pain and repair. Remember, limited processing of the product is ideal for optimal absorption.
"The best age is always now," says Johnson. "Start as soon as possible and think about it like you take care of a car or nice jewelry. Joints are meant to last as long as you live. The key is to take care of them with quality nutrition, normal exercise, and adequate rest."

How to throw a seamless summer gathering (BPT) - You'll likely host a party or two this summer, and you want it to be an event guests remember. From dinner parties and backyard barbecues to an easy Sunday morning get-together, the most important thing at the end of the day is that you, along with your guests, have a really great time. Why entertain otherwise? "Creating a seamless summer party is all about preparation," says Nate Berkus, noted interior designer and artistic advisor to LG Studio. "I always tell people the most important thing is that everyone, including the host, is enjoying themselves. Make sure you brew coffee ahead of time, set out a pitcher of lemonade and decorate with a bouquet of fresh flowers. Don't over-complicate anything from food to decor, and everything else will fall into place." 1. Be prepared You don't want to be sweating the small details once the party gets started. Have your food and beverage options ready to go before guests even step in the door. Bake
pastries ahead of time, brew coffee and order in from your favorite restaurant, and set it all up on the kitchen counter or island. Put silverware and glassware out, buffet-style; it's so much easier than trying to coordinate a sit-down dinner. Plus, your guests can help themselves so you get to mingle and enjoy yourself as well. You'll immediately elevate a summer beverage like lemonade by adding lavender or berries, and serving it in a chic glass pitcher. "I love to create a signature cocktail at any party I host - it just feels special," Berkus says. "Set up a bar cart in the corner with other drink options, linen napkins and gold stirrers and let guests refill as they need." 2. Simplify the menu The secret to any great party is choosing menu items that you can prepare ahead and that will totally wow your guests. "I don't cook but luckily I have great friends - and a husband - who do," Berkus says. "My good friend Athena Calderone of Eyeswoon

makes this amazing Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata that's perfect to serve any size group - from two to 10. It's truly the perfect entree for a Sunday brunch. I'm sharing the recipe because you're going to want to try it." When you're in the kitchen, make sure you've got the right tools and equipment - dependable appliances are a must. "The new line of appliances from LG Studio that I helped design combines the highest quality in design with the best of the best in terms of functionality," Berkus says. "It features a timeless, pro-style design that you'll love today and 10 years from now, along with flexible performance." For example, the new double wall oven from LG Studio can help you cook like a pro in your own home with features like an exclusive fourmode "true convection" technology for even heat distribution and even cooking on every rack, along with a gliding rack system that extends over the open oven door for easy

Style seamlessly Pick a color scheme and stick to it, then mix in neutral and wovens with things like napkin rings and small vases to create interesting texture that won't overpower your guests. Floral arrangements or touches of greenery are a great nod to summer and will dress up any table. "I love blushes and naturals for summer parties; it feels really fresh and inviting," Berkus says. "As far as greenery goes, I'm loving potted succulents and air plants. They create unexpected moments, and are a talking point. Green branches in vases are another great way to add height and color." 4. Repurpose the things you love You want your party decor to be on-point, but every party has a budget. "I always tell people to use what they already have," Berkus says. "Pull things from around your
house, like vases, trays, ceramics bowls, etc. They'll look great whether repurposed for the buffet table, or incorporated into the tablescape." If it's an outdoor party, think about using your favorite lamps, throw pillows or even a rug outside to elevate the decor and really set the scene for your gathering. These few simple steps are the key to creating a beautiful, seamless summer gathering that your guests will talk about for months to come. And the most important thing to remember is to enjoy the moment. Athena Calderone's recipe: Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata Ingredients: 1/2 pound baby potatoes 10 large eggs 1/3 cup creme fraiche 3/4 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 leek, halved lengthwise, rinsed and thinly sliced 1 spring onion, thinly sliced 2 cups lightly packed baby spinach 3 ounces goat cheese Handful torn parsley
Handful chopped dill Handful chopped chives Salt and pepper Directions: Heat the oven to 350 F. Boil the potatoes until fork-tender. When cool enough to handle, thinly slice Whisk together the eggs, creme fraiche and salt. Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet, cast iron or non-stick, over medium heat. Add the leek and onion and saute until translucent. Add the potatoes and cook another few minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the spinach and cook just until wilted. Pour in the egg mixture and cook for a few minutes, pushing the cooked eggs to the center of the pan. Place in the oven and cook just until set, about 12-15 minutes.
Cool slightly. Garnish with fresh herbs.
