SOLUTION IN THE WORKS FOR VETERANS FACING THE COMMISSION DILEMMA
If you’ve been following the recent commission lawsuit stories, you know they have severely impacted our Veteran and Military Community. Under current rules, a VA buyer cannot pay for a buyer’s agent commission, putting them at a severe disadvantage in an already competitive market. We’ve been fighting hard to get the VA or NAR to change this policy. Our prayers have been answered, and it seems there’s a solution in the works. Here is a summary of the letter from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) to the VA:

Key Points:
1. Acknowledgement: The MBA appreciates the VA’s commitment to providing affordable housing for veterans through the VA home loan program.
2. Recent Developments: The National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has proposed a settlement for class action lawsuits alleging antitrust violations. This settlement, expected to take effect in July 2024, may influence sellers’ decisions to cover buyer agent commission fees.
3. Impact on Veterans: The current VA policy prohibits veterans from paying fees or commissions to real estate agents for VA home loans. This puts veterans at a disadvantage if sellers do not cover these costs, making the home-buying process less attractive for veterans.
