Question:
Hi Noah- we’ve been hearing news stories about the National Association of Realtors settling a lawsuit against agents and commissions to buyer agents might be going away. Is that true?
Answer:
This has been a hot media topic the last few months. But first off, nothing is final yet and we don’t know the implications of the proposed rule changes.
I can promise one thing though....agents that represent buyers on their house search won’t be working for free, after all the dust settles.
Sellers will still be allowed to offer a commission to the brokerage that brings them their buyer. This relates to marketing
and getting full exposure for a sale.
But the way in which we communicate the commission being offered... that might change. We should know more in the next 2-3 months.
I have listing agreements with all my sellers....this settlement probably means agents will now have written/ signed agreements with all their buyers. This could be a good change for all involved. Keep you posted as we know more.
