Essential Gadgets for a company party Organising a company party is an art; too conservative, you’ll have bored colleagues dreading to stay; too overboard, you’ll have a hard time keeping people in control. So here are a few tips to ensure everyone goes home with great memories at your next office party. Set the scene right - Audio and Visual Based on your company culture, prepare an appropriate slideshow (it could be as simple as using last year’s photos!). Loop the slideshow throughout the night with a small projector that is easy to handle and can be connected to your mobile (so you’ll always be in control). Good music is also essential to a successful party. It relaxes everyone and provides good conversation starters. Pick the right playlist (Spotify is a great help), and blast it through a wireless speaker. Even better, spice things up with a nice soundbox that glows and doubles as a room decor. Let the activities take over No party is complete without some form of games. The perfect game for a company gathering promotes team work and bonding. If you’re sick of people falling back onto someone else’s arms, try hyping things up through latest gadgets. Virtual reality and somatosensory games are the talks of the town. It is one of the things in trends that people love to try but doesn’t have the means to. Not only do players enjoy the gaming experience, they might even learn a thing or two that may very well be beneficial to their work. E.g. Team work. Capture the moments A themed photo booth will no doubt stir up the fun and create unique memories for your partygoers. If a full size photo booth is out of budget, a few instant cameras with some creative props will do the magic. Professional photographers requires big bucks. If all you need are snaps and simple footages of the event to go onto social media, try lightweight multi-function action cameras that you can set at corners and control with your phone, or mount one on your wrist for anytime snapshots. Argue less, love more Did you ever notice that you and your partner tend to argue over the same three or four things over and over again? It may be that he never tells you when he’s coming home late from work or that he always leaves dirty plates in the sink even though you have a dish washer. It’s amazing how these simple actions can cause a lot of fights! Our natural response when that happens is to complain and nag, hoping that they will stop doing the things we hate. Complaining rarely works, the fight keeps coming up, accumulating more and more frustration, sometimes blowing up into a bigger conflict every time. Most couples have unresolved conflicts like this for years. Although it may sound silly, they end up eroding little by little the respect and positive feelings we want to have for our partners. What if there was a simple strategy to resolve these arguments for good? Here are my 3 steps to conflict resolution I use with clients who struggle with such issues:

1. Identify your Need. The reason these small things bother you is because you have emotional needs that must be fulfilled in your relationship. Spend some time thinking about what really bothers you about the situation and make sure you understand what’s hiding underneath it. 2. Help your partner Understand. When you know what the issue is, explain it clearly to your partner. They most likely have no idea why you’re ‘making a fuss’, which is why they never really changed their behaviour, despite your repeated complaints. 3. Make a clear Request. Even though they now understand your issue, they may not know how to respond to your need to your satisfaction. Just make it clear to them so they can help you get what you want. Whisky Wizardry Neat. On the rocks. With a dash of water. There is a lot of confusion – what exactly is the “right way” to drink a great Single Malt Whisky? Of course, everyone is sure that their way is the right way but is there really a “best” way to enjoy your favourite dram. Well, yes! All whisky has water as its primary component and is usually “cut” to 43% Alcohol By Volume when they are bottled ( some “cask strength” bottles can go up to 60% ) but it seems that the only thing you can nose is tons of alcohol that burns your nose – hardly an enticing proposition to those who are new to single malts. Whisky has some extremely complex chemical interactions taking place with its esters, hydrocarbons and ethanol components and the minute you introduce water into the mix, the whole glass erupts into what looks like a dozen “snakes” going berserk – the wizardry of whisky is in those few drops of water… I like to compare a dram of whisky to a swimming pool with a heavy tarp covering it. This heavy blanket obliterates the fine aromas that is the nature of every Single Malt Whisky. If you were to take a deep breath from the glass when it’s just out of the bottle, the high alcohol content will simply cause your eyes to water. The key to unlocking the scintillating nuances locked inside is water. Take a little dropper and disturb the surface of the whisky ( that’s like pulling the tarp off the pool ), give it a few seconds, don’t swirl the glass ( all that will do is force the alcohol up again) and then gently raise the glass … take a deep breath and then sip…. Vanilla, leather, ginger, berries, dark chocolate, Christmas cake… it goes on and on and on… While there are many fans who enjoy their Scotch on the Rocks, ice actually cools the whisky too much and closes it up but those few drops of water every couple of sips lets loose the snakes! A fine Single Malt Whisky is a luxurious tipple and if the Master Distiller waited 18 years to bottle it, take a few extra minutes to enjoy it … you deserve it. Dram Good Stuff boasts an extensive selection of fine and rare collectibles. From daily drams to that extraordinary 40 Year Old for your special celebration, we have it all Dram Good Stuff is your one stop shop to make your Dream Dram a reality. www.dramgoodstuff.com

Tiki Culture One of the classic misconceptions that many share with tiki bars stem from their overly sugary experiences with their cocktails. Despite the evolution of tiki culture being well documented, few still fail to grasp that the tiki bars of today are not the same as those that saw the end of the trend’s decline in the late 80s. The current tiki revival scene is concerned with the authenticity of cocktail representation. Only fresh juices are to be incorporated with the fusion of homemade syrups. No juices from concentrate or with added sugar are to be used. The resulting cocktail is one of natural balance and is refreshing without the intense sugar hit. Don the Beachcomber, founding father of tiki bar culture, created the myth of Polynesia in the late 30s borrowing from the Caribbean’s three flavour fundamentals of rum, sugar and lime. His ‘rhum rhapsodies’ encapsulated a ‘summer in a glass’ to be enjoyed throughout the year rain or shine. Through the fusing of island cultures, he invented the mirage of Polynesian cocktail culture (which had previously never existed), since the local island folk traditionally consumed French table wine and Okolehao – a type of Hawaiian moonshine. Following the end of WWII, when American soldiers travelled home, they carried with them memories of an island life. This dream catapulted the trend into the pinnacle of popularity, however with the influx of tiki bars being set up and undercutting with some of the cheaper bars - saw the trend lose focus, direction and consumer appeal. With the turn of the millennium, the tiki trend has seen a revival worldwide with aficionados meticulously tracing back the recipes of the original founding cocktails. Adding modern twists and flairs to create intrigue in seasoned drinks connoisseurs. Tiki bars are making a comeback on a worldwide scale and as long as the quality, respect and authenticity are maintained it is very much here to stay. Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a key buzz word in today’s marketing terms. It is merely not enough to be online but it is equally as important to have visibility to be found from amongst the billions of web pages online. SEO comprises of technical and creative elements all driven to improve rankings in search engines, drive traffic to your website and increase awareness in search engines. The world of SEO is complicated but even the smallest amount of knowledge can help - First, ensure that visit your website is a ‘quality user experience’. Once this is so, you will surely get ranked higher. Create and add relevant, quality content and ensure your site is fast to load. Ensure your website is ‘content rich’ and has low or no duplication of content. A fast loading website enriches the user experience - keep it that way! Relevant, Authority & Trust - Ensure that all these three boxes are ticked when creating the website, this is what Google’s rules are based on. For example if you have a pop up on your website, make sure its relevant, needed and brings timely information - if not consider this fact: Pop-Ups have been consistently voted the number one most hated advertising technique since they first appeared. Ensure your website is maintained and updated regularly - websites that have less updates are rated as ‘Low quality’ when it comes to rankings. Do not neglect your website or make it stale! You definitely lose traffic when you have ‘broken’ pages - this encompasses all the pages that show up as not loading or those that show you a ‘404 error’. Make sure all your pages work and that are all interlinked properly. Remember that Google is not going to rank low quality pages when it has better options! There is a technical side to SEO which you should be aware of such as creating links and backlinks, submitting your website for ranking by search engines, have specific keyword searched programmed, allowing the text in your website to be read by Google’s ‘spider’, adding page titles/ meta tags, site mapping, analysis and many more techiniques - Get in touch with a professional. For SEO services and building you a world class website as well as for all your designing & printing needs, get in touch with us for a consultation over a coffee! You will enjoy the experience as much as the final product! sales@plusgroup.com.hk | www.PlusGroup.com.hk | Tel:(852) 2333 4421 | Likes us on FB!

Wing Chun, Pilates and Mindfulness What is Mindfulness anyway? Isn’t it just a word that is over used and unpractical in normal everyday life? What is it all about? Learning to direct our attention to whatever experience is unfolding, moment by moment and with an open mind has profound effects on our physical and mental well being. Whilst much of our energy is taken up by worrying about what has or will happen, we can skillfully pay close attention to inner states such as thoughts, emotions and physical sensations as well as what’s going on in the outside world. Wing Chun Kung Fu for example requires that we move in a relaxed and effortless state to produce a great deal of power. Our focus must be on the condition of our body, balance and thoughts through the movements so we don’t rely on muscular strength and undue tension. It forces us to connect mind with body and body with mind. As the most disembodied generation ever, our minds have become disconnected from our bodies. Much of the time we are unaware of the possibly valuable information that the body can give us, such as stress warning signs, or clues about emotions that are driving our behavior. If we were aware of these natural tendencies then we would have more choices on how to deal with situations as they arise, not being all consumed by them. Much of the difficulties we face in our own lives are actually created by our own selves! The pursuit of Mindfulness, in whatever form you may practice it, will help people of all ages fulfill their full potential, be more creative and relaxed in the process. Through patient and persistent pursuit our lives will be enriched with a gratitude for our ability to concentrate on what is ‘good’ in life rather than our minds taking us to places we’d rather not be. A boutique wellness studio combining the physical discipline of Wing Chun Kung Fu and Pilates with Mindfulness – children and adult classes are available in both practices 7 days per week. Private and group classes are available as are corporate and special event classes. Contact us for more details.

Towards Better Posture and Health Technology is amazing. Our lives are becoming increasingly complex as access to information and the accomplishing of tasks becomes easier and streamlined thanks to the widespread use and development of computers and smart phones. We are addicted and there is a price to pay. Take a look around you. Observe your family, your friends, your colleagues and the strangers around you. Notice the new “normal”, with the head in front of the body and the eyes looking down, the shoulders rolled. Slouched at home, humped in front of the screen at the desk and all the caveman postures on the MTR. It is fairly likely that they a reflection of you, to some degree. This chronic change in posture leads to changes in the quality of your spine (early degeneration), muscle pain and tension, decreased breathing ability and back pain. Also it makes us look older and fatter than we really are. • • • •

Make changes where most of your time is spent; e.g. office desk, bed (sleep) Get a proper ergonomic setup and exercise the back to bring the shoulders back. Interrupt your posture pattern every 30 minutes for 30 seconds If you already feel the effects from your posture and suffer with pain and discomfort, get your spine and posture assessed by a chiropractor.

Our amazing technology should be contributing to the quality of our lives and not to the detriment of our health. Your health and posture is ultimately your responsibility. Take action and start making changes for a healthier and happier future for you and your family.

Dr Pieter le Roux DC is a chiropractor with a focus on posture and performance. Based in Central HK and Sai Kung and offers consultations for your concerns at both locations. For further information, contact info@hongkongbackpain.com or call 25227998

Beliefs vs Desires Many of us have had long-term desires which we just can’t seem to meet. Perhaps we’ve been wanting to speak confidently in public, eat healthily, become more patient, or earn more money, and yet we find that we just can’t do this. When we can’t get what we want it’s because there is an inner conflict going on between the conscious and subconscious mind - a misalignment between your desires and beliefs. Most of the time the conscious mind knows what it desires and has a plan on how to get it, however, the subconscious mind which holds your deep-seated beliefs is giving the opposite message. For example, the conscious mind could say, ‘I need to stop eating sweets’, and the subconscious mind says, ‘No it makes me feel safe and comfortable’, and hence nothing changes and we feel like we’ve failed. Most of us don’t get that the issue is far deeper than a matter of discipline, and as a result, we start judging ourselves for why we can’t do what we want, making us feel even worse. There are many modalities that help align your beliefs to your desires so you can meet your goals, and all these involve working with the power of the subconscious mind. To help yourselves, I would suggest to just start by having some self-compassion; don’t put yourself down for not meeting your long-term goals and get that there is something much deeper going which is coming from your illogical mind. Accepting that logic and judgment are not going to help the situation, but understanding that there is a deep void within and inquiring about where that’s coming from will be a great place to start. All resolutions will eventually lead to accepting there is an issue, being aware of what the real cause is and healing it with consciousness.

Destination Wedding Tips Destination Weddings are the norm these days, especially for a Hong Kong couple. There’s a feel good factor when having a Destination Wedding in an exotic location with a picturesque background set against the gorgeous sunset, almost as if the Gods painted the sky just for you. Having your near and dear ones make the effort for your big day from all over the world makes it even more special because you know they are there for you and to be part of your happiness. Most people opt for a Destination Wedding because of many factors involved but value for money is what tops the list. Here are some tips to add more value when planning for your big day at an exotic location. The adage “Less is more” certainly won’t work here, the exact opposite holds true. • When asking for a group discount on the rooms, get the rate inclusive of the taxes. • Ask for the Nett rate and always inclusive of breakfast for the guests. • A month prior to the wedding, have a clause which allows you to extend or reduce 10% of the rooms guaranteed. • The Bride and The Groom’s family should get an upgrade to the suites during the functions. Pre and Post function days are usually paid for, ask for the best rate for that. • The bride and the groom should get at least 2 nights complimentary stay after the wedding. • Complimentary massage for the wedding couple • Complimentary Welcome Drink, Cold Towel, Wifi and hampers drop off is a must. Some hotels charge for wifi use or hampers to be dropped off. • Complimentary laundry for the wedding group usually it’s 2-4 pcs, if not at least for the hosts’ rooms. • Ask for special discounts on the spa and in-room dining services for your guests. • Booze is very important getting it on consignment will be a smarter move. • Always have a plan B ready for your outdoor events. Your planner should be able to get you all of these and a whole lot more when planning extensively.

Progressive Wellness Trends As they say, “times, they are a changing and in the world of healthcare amid the dizzying pace of technological advances, progression is a constant. Healthcare has, for quite awhile, been evolving into a preventative mode rather than purely reactive. Medical breakthroughs in early detection of potential health risk act as ideal compasses to plot this route, with invasive procedures the final order of the day. As a company that believes in holistic healthcare, we have been witnessing a growing trend among consumers towards holistic wellness and prevention. Adding to this growing trend, we also note the increasing popularity of progressive wellness treatments amongst consumers. Here are 5 trends and treatments to watch: #1: Inflammation is one of the buzzwords in natural health circles, with wellness centers introducing Cryotherapy – a means of using low temperatures in medical therapy. It is widely used by both athletes and the aging population, to relieve muscle pain, sprains and swelling either via soft tissue damage or postoperative swelling. It is the modern ice bath, one that is available and accessible to all. #2: Intravenous vitamin therapy (IV) has become an increasingly popular trend, especially among celebrities. IV is a method of administering vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream. Alternative therapy clinics recommend this for a wide range of conditions including cancer, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), asthma, and other chronic diseases. #3: The aging population is boosting the market for retailers who offer supplements for calcium and bone, fibre, and digestive needs. #4: Health devices that include wearable health trackers, DIY wellness and beauty products, exercise gadgets and online or app-based wellness programmes. Apps and online videos can coach us to eat, move and think for optimum health, while our modern day personal trainer comes in the form of a wearable fitness tracker (racks up data that motivates us to do better). #5: Functional fitness in gyms may be the new norm in 2017. Think trampolines, aqua boards, add LED lights, include surround sounds, move to celebrity workouts, and you have energy and ambiance to raise your adrenaline levels. Knowing your child’s learning style Each child learns and interacts with the world in different ways. Most toddlers begin to show preference for a particular learning style. By having an awareness of your child’s dominant learning style, you can help your child learn more effectively by choosing suitable resources and activities for them. There are four basic learning styles – visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic.

Visual learner A visual learner can understand and remember information better if they see it. If your child is a visual learner, you may notice that they gain knowledge through observation most of the time. This kind of learner learns how to do things once they have seen others doing them.

Auditory learner An auditory learner gains new ideas and concepts most comfortably by listening. Your child may remember most of the words in familiar stories and learn a song quickly after listening to it. They can follow oral instructions easily and are able to repeat overheard information.

Tactile learner A tactile learner learns best by touching or feeling things with their hands. If your child is a tactile child, they are likely to enjoy hands-on activities, such as puzzles and blocks. This kind of child learns best by doing things with their own hands.

Kinaesthetic learner If your child is a kinaesthetic learner, they use their whole body to explore the world and have a strong need of movement. Your child will enjoy moving around to see what is happening in their surroundings. Tapping into your child’s preferred learning style may help them build confidence in learning. As most children’s preferred learning style may change over time and they may learn in more than one style, it is best to try different methods and activities to see which one your child responds to the best.

A Guide to Your Chakras Did you know there exists a subtle healing philosophy that empowers you to know yourself better? The philosophy of the chakras dates back thousands of years, to what is now modern India. Yet the chakras can be found in the ancient texts of many of the world’s oldest civilisations. Simple yet profound, its wisdom can guide us today as much as it did our ancestors. But what are the chakras? Put simply, chakra is the Sanskrit word for ‘disc’ and signifies one of the seven main energy centres of the body. Each of these centres is a high frequency vortex of spinning energy, located along the cerebrospinal complex. The chakras correlate to the various stages of life, levels of consciousness, colours, sounds, and much more. Keeping them balanced allows our body, mind, and emotions to function as a synchronised and effective whole. Each chakra reflects our relationship with a particular aspect of our life. The root chakra is linked to our sense of foundation and security, whereas the sacral chakra involves sensuality and sexuality. The solar plexus chakra is tied to personal power and spontaneity whilst the heart chakra evokes love and balance. Creative self-expression is the domain of the throat chakra, and intuition belongs to the brow chakra. Lastly, the crown chakra represents wisdom and universal awareness. We take a step towards internal growth when we come to recognise which of our chakras needs to be balanced. By knowing what the chakras are, and what each one of them represents, we can bring about tremendous and powerful change. Once the chakras are aligned, you might find yourself incredibly (pleasantly) surprised by what happens next! Chakra by Piya creates jewellery that helps balance the chakras and empowers you to discover yourself in a fun and meaningful way. Experience it for yourself at www.chakrabypiya.com.

Three questions to ask before you buy an ETF A decade ago, exchange traded funds (ETFs) were barely on investor radars. But since then, the ETF industry has exploded. ETFs are now the bread-and-butter tool for everyday investors looking for an easy way to invest in a particular geographic region, market, sector... you name it.

What’s behind the ETF growth? First, investors have been disappointed with the relative high-fees and underperformance of active funds (that is, funds where managers select stocks themselves). This has made ETFs, which are low-cost passive funds that simply track a particular benchmark index, more attractive. For example, analysis from index provider S&P Dow Jones in 2016 showed that 99 percent of actively managed U.S. equity funds sold in Europe have failed to beat the S&P 500 over the past 10 years. 1. What’s the cost? ETFs charge a fixed percentage annual running cost to shareholders, known as the expense ratio. Whilst an actively managed fund might charge, say, 1 percent ofassets under management(AUM) and a percentage of profits, ETF expense ratios are typically less than 0.50 percent.

2. How is the liquidity? Liquidity is the ease with which you can buy and sell a security in the market without affecting its underlying price. For most of us individual investors, our individual buy and sell orders don’t visibly move the market. But they can if we’re looking at thinly-traded small-cap stocks.

3. How does the index work? When buying an ETF, you’re not only investing in a basket of underlying securities, but ALSO the mechanics of how the underlying index works. In the early days of ETF investing, most of the first ETFs sought to replicate standard benchmark indices, like the S&P 500. Now, most indexes use a simple market cap weighted methodology. They take a basket of stocks, and weight them according to their respective market cap. So if you’re looking to invest in an ETF, make sure you do your homework. Read the label, and make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into by answering these three questions first. From Stansberry Churchouse Research. How exercise can improve your skin We constantly hear about the benefits of physical activity for our heart, lungs, mental health and general well-being. But there’s also an even more important reason to stay active; to keep our skin healthy and glowing. There are many benefits that exercising regularly can give to our skin. 1. Help your skin radiate and shine - Our skin is our largest organ for detoxification and so it comes as no surprise that sweating not only leads to increased blood flow, but also helps remove metabolic waste. Improved blood flow helps move oxygen and nutrients to your skin, something that is key for a clear, radiant complexion. 2. Reduce stress - increase glow - When we exercise, our brain releases various chemicals including serotonin which help to reduce stress and anxiety. These happy hormones can instantly boost your energy and help you to feel calm and more relaxed. Even better, exercising regularly and keeping stress and tension out of your life helps you maintain healthy, glowing skin. Stress is often one of the contributing factors to skin problems. 3. Healthy hair - Exercise helps to nourish your skin and also to nurture your scalp. The increase in blood circulation to your scalp results in the healthy development and maintenance of hair follicles. 4. The beauty of inner confidence - Just 30 minutes of light jogging, aerobics, or walking can ease the pressures of your day. Exercise boosts neuro-transmitters, which help to calm the mind. The body and soul follow, bringing about a more confident, calm you. We all know that wonderful self-assurance that comes from feeling good in your own skin. 5. Sound sleep - Sound sleep is very important for our overall health and well-being. Lack of sleep can directly affect the appearance of our skin. Even one night of poor sleep can take the freshness out of the skin and leave it looking dull. Restful sleep helps to give our skin a glow. Use nutritive, natural skin care from reliable brands. Eating a healthy diet is a must for younger looking skin. Regular gentle exercise helps reduce muscle tension and ultimately, this helps ensure we can sink into a more restful, sound sleep each night. 6. Fresh and clean - Now that you know how regular exercise can help to revitalise skin, also remember to stay hydrated during and after exercising and to keep your skin clean and well moisturised. Use cleansers that refresh and gently clean the skin after a workout without stripping moisture or nutrients. Benefits of Space Cleansing Brighten Your Home and Office and Uplift Your Life! Energy is an ever flowing and ever changing force in our lives and in our bodies. The more we understand how energy affects our lives, our homes and our work spaces, the more freedom, peace and prosperity we can enjoy. Space Cleansing is a practise, using various materials, that enables the release of old, stuck, stagnant and lower vibrational energy to be completely released from a space. Everything has energy. Our thoughts, beliefs, emotions and actions all emit a certain vibration of energy. These energies get deposited into a space and remain there until they get cleared. People have become more aware of their own energy states. However there seems to be less awareness about the invisible energy that accumulates in a physical space. Every person that lives or works in a space, or merely passes through it, as well as the thought intentions of others towards us, leaves some energy imprint. The intention of Space Cleansing is to remove all the negative energy debris and unwanted external energies, so that vibrant and healthy energy can fill the space, and new possibilities can blossom in our lives! It is essential to do a Space Cleanse before moving into a new home or office, and after any traumatic event in one’s life, their family and workplace. If there is some challenge between family members, a Space Cleanse can assist in shifting the energetic elements, which are blocking the resolution of the issue. In the East, Feng Shui (Chinese system of harmonising everyone with the surrounding environment) and Vastu (Hindu system of architecture) are more widely practised, however it would be beneficial to do a Space Cleanse before implementing the changes from these other practices otherwise it would be like putting fresh beautiful roses into a dirty vase! Materials and simple techniques to cleanse the space: • Burn White Sage leaves to create a cleansing smoke • Place bowls of Rock Salt around the space • Keep Crystals such as Selenite, Black Tourmaline and Smokey Quartz • Burn Camphor to cleanse very stagnant energy Make sure to set a clear heartfelt intention for whatever outcome you wish to achieve before doing the Space Cleanse. Anjali Mukhi is a Therapist and Coach at Anjali’s Healing. She also offers Angel Card readings in person and over the phone, and does professional Space Cleansing. Money and what’s behind it Have you ever wondered why some people make money easily and some don’t? Why some walk into a bank and come out with a loan whilst others, even with a great business plan, back up information, superb excel spreadsheets always get turned down? Why some people “cannot” pay off their debts whilst others do it with ease? Look at the people who “don’t have money issues” and always get paid on time: are they meak, insecure and shy or do they show up confident and convincing? I would venture to say the latter…these people know who they are and have no problem affirming it. Indeed many people have hidden mindsets regarding money which tripp them up time and again. “The rich are not happy” or “I cannot be wealthy and spiritual “ (in other words you can only be spiritual when you are poor) I’d rather be poor and happy (but are you?) than rich and (un) happy” or “Why would I get paid more? What do I have to offer that others don’t?” or “ I don’t deserve a life of ease” or even “It’s too much work making good money for….” and another one “I am not good with money” Discovering and understanding that money is a reflection of our self-esteem is an important step in personal and spiritual growth. I had a client who was neck deep in debt, this bothered him and he just could not get out of it… 3until we explored his Archetypes (or aspects /blueprint of self) and he learnt to accept them. It was a huge discovery and shift when he realized that an event in his youth shaped (unconsciously) his value of self and thus how he related to money. After some resistance, he started to make overtures to his father about how the child had felt in a certain situation he had recalled, opening up his emotions, letting Dad in. Once this happened, he decided how to structure his repayments of the debt and came out of it in 6 months, he felt at ease with his father, family and mostly with himseft….so money self esteem and emotions are strongly linked! Another client, CFO of a global company, did not care for money, was actually not interested and felt he was not good with it…difficult for a CFO and he felt bogged down, trapped. We worked on his Archetypal make up and he discovered the reason for his mindset, leart around the age of 6. He understood and clearly saw what he had decided to believe, then was able to let this unconscious belief go. When that happened, the feeling of freedom he experienced was a sight to behold. Needless to say he became very effective at his job managing money! Latest science has found and confirmed that value and money are strongly related. The Essential Archetype® programme that I mentor in, was created by Helen Barton of Insight teachings Australia, and is a powerful way to uncover our issues (of money and around money), understand them and then let them go. Imagine being freeing yourself of money and/or relationship problems (et al) for good and enjoy life to the full, being successful in business and life in general, flying high and light… There are 12 Archetypes, and our lives are governed by 4, would you like to find out which ones are in your blueprint? Jacqueline offers a complimentary consultation on Skype to reveal your Archetypes and how they influence your life. Contact her at Jacqueline@JacquelineMuller.com

5 WAYS TO COMBAT HONG KONG’S HUMIDITY It’s been exceptionally humid this summer, and we can unfortunately expect the clamminess to continue until late in the year. It’s the unpleasant reality that breakouts may occur more frequently during humid weather, and makeup has the higher propensity of not staying in its place. But there’s no need to bemoan the warm season, stay dry and breakout free with some of our tips on keeping your skin (and makeup) in pristine shape over the upcoming months.

1. Go light on the layers - Allow your moisturizer more time to absorb into your skin before you step out for the day. Try using an oil-free, light weight serum or moisturizer, and go gentle on T-zone areas. Combine that with just a full spectrum SPF30+ physical sunblock so you’re not overloading on the layers. 2. Use oil blotting papers - You’ve seen these mini skin blotting papers all over Watson’s and Mannings. These blemish control papers control excess oil and can keep the moist feeling out. Best of all, these sheets won’t wipe off whatever makeup you do have on. They’re also inexpensive and available at a local drugstore near you. 3. Apply Primer - Primer will keep your makeup lasting longer, especially needed when it’s humid out. An organic primer is safe enough to be be used for both face and eyelids, or you can use separate face and lid ones. Primers also work to combat oil! After cleansing your skin and applying moisturizer, apply a pea size amount onto your skin. Then continue with your makeup routine. 4. Use less makeup - There’s no need to wear pounds of foundation on a sticky humid day the last thing you need is to be weighed down by excessive makeup. Avoid loading up on the foundation, which will only work to clog pores. Instead, use either just a concealer or switch to tinted moisturizers or BB Creams. If you ever want to try going make up free in this humidity, we highly recommend it. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the change in your skin in just a week! 5. Make sure to wash everything off and exfoliate - With the high levels of humidity, dirt is

bound to get stuck into your pores. Make sure to cleanse well and exfoliate at least once a week. One of our favourite products is Kahina’s Antioxidant Exfoliating Maskas it draws out the day’s toxins and leaves your skin feeling supple and soft. Best of all, unlike dead skin cells, fresh new skin can properly absorb all the organic goodness you’ll slather on afterwards!

Tip: Stick to organic exfoliators with

gentle, naturally dissolving beads. Plastic microbeads found in many drugstore brands can overly abrasive on skin but even worse, are highly harmful to our environment and ultimately ourselves. These plastic microbeads go down our drains, absorb toxins in the water, are eaten by marine life, and can make their way up the food chain all the way to our dinner plates. If nothing else, avoid products with plastic microbeads!

Angela Wong started her business Little Things In Life HK (www.ltilhk.com), an e-store dedicated to selling organic skincare catered towards sensitive skin, precisely to counteract the pollution & humidity caused skin complaints she was experiencing in Hong Kong after years in less-polluted Singapore.

Forget the BEST School; Find the BEST FIT School If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked “What’s the best school in Hong Kong?”. There is no such thing! We don’t have any rankings and the best school for your colleague’s / cousin’s / best friend’s kid is quite possibly the absolute worst school for your kid. So, if we focus on finding the best fit school, rather than the “best school”, we suggest a planned process. It’s not a linear process. Many times, we are asked for a step-by-step plan or a checklist. Wouldn’t that be nice? Some aspects are related to your family generally, others to your child. Some are factors you can control and others are completely out of your control . We can categorise all these aspects broadly into 6 Ps: Procedures Policy Proficiency Personality Preferences Priorities Each of the Ps belongs to either the school, the parents or the child. Where do you start? Most parents start with the school. They research schools they’ve heard about from friends/ relatives/colleagues. Parents study the curriculum it follows, what it costs, where it is, whether it has a swimming pool and how many Ivy League/OxBridge placements it has…. which is a big mistake. Parents are often judging a school on misinformation, other parents’ experiences (who have children who are different from yours) or the school’s own PR fluff. We suggest you start with YOU. Who are you? Your child? Your preferences. In an ideal world, what does your ideal school look like, feel like, smell like? If your child is older, you can start with your child. Your Preferences - We spend a long time with our families to get to know them. We discuss your own educational background, your expectations in terms of academic program, plus your budget, location, etc. We are careful not to restrict options too much at the initial stage. Parents often have strong opinions about curriculum which, in our opinion, is not the most important factor for a primary school student. Your Priorities - If you have priorities, you will enjoy advantage at certain schools. If you graduated from a school in Hong Kong, alumni priority is strong. If you have your child enrolled in the school’s affiliated kindergarten, you will also enjoy some priority. Priority is one consideration; it is not the most important one. Your Child’s Proficiency & Personality - Every school will meet your child before accepting him/ her. If your child is four years old or more, we prefer to meet your child to evaluate their general development in a few areas: Language Proficiency: English and/or Chinese / Emotional/social / Motor skills - gross/fine. As for the Procedures and Policies, each school differs from the next We suggest coming to this last. Top Schools are admissions experts for private and international kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. We understand each school in-depth and what they are looking for in a family. We can support families throughout the whole process to secure a place in a top school in Hong Kong. Get in touch today: Email: hello@topschools.com.hk | +852 3565 5865 www.topschools.com.hk

Listening Skills The Other Side of A FINER PERSONALITY After your first, second and other opportunities of noticing people, we often gain impressions of them and wish to meet them. Not all, but many naturally or actually push themselves to approach, greet and start a conversation with you, or you do it with others. It fulfills the desire to know others, and further gains you satisfaction to claim that we know them, and have met them, just by speaking to them! But some conversations and communications do not last even in the first meeting. And if they did converse well enough the first time, often, when you meet the next time, it may be just a greeting of recognition and a few mumbled words of ‘hi, how do you do’, or ‘nice meeting you.’ The connection does not ignite much further. So how does a successful connection happen over and over again? How successful are you, in magnetic interactions with others? Many meetings dull and fade out, with lack of further interest in the other. The magic is by connecting further through your listening skills! Majority of people have passive listening skills. They hear but do not actually listen. Hearing is just sounds and conversation passing through your ears; And you are instantly ready and intent to speak further or reply. Do note that God gave us two ears to listen but one mouth to speak. To be magnetic for lasting relationships, one requires ACT-ive listening skills with the intent to understand and be really interested in people. Appreciate them if you gained any knowledge; do repeat amazing and important information, and do ask questions – it’s the proof of being interested in them. Anyone and everyone appreciates being heard. So don’t be overtly expressive in your own opinions, interests and yourself. Show listening skills by friendly facial expressions and listening sounds of ‘oh’, ‘then’, ‘that’s interesting’ etc. Engage them now and in the next meetings too. Speaking skills are important – but much more so, are the powers in your listening skills! Engage the other person to speak and be interested - he goes home saying he met a very interesting person! Goal Setting For Adolescents Goals are critical. They keep you focused on what’s important, and allow you to make the best use of your 24 hours each day. We all know that. And yet research shows only 20% of the population sets goals and 92% of those goals are never achieved. And it becomes more challenging when the person you want to set goal is an ADOLESCENT! It is difficult for teens to see beyond the present. Goal setting challenges them psychologically, because it involves having to wait for a long time to see the results, which, again, is a good lesson to teach as kids grow up. They should learn that anything good is worth working for and that it is only over time and effort that we see the true results of all of our hard work. Very few things come to us immediately. We all know without a goal in mind we can end up wasting time and energy and are finally left with nothing in hand. To teach them how gratifying, energizing and fulfilling goal setting and accomplishing can be make it achievable for them by: 1. Gave them freedom to choose: Make themchoose 1 task/activity/goal that they always wanted to/expected to do but never really got to do for various reasons. 2. Made it a group/pair activity (if possible): create a chart/sheet where they can check each day after they have completed the activity. This fulfils dual purpose of reminding and motivating. 3. Kept the time frame short: Set aside just 10 minutes each day for the task and do it for only for 3 weeks to begin with. When the adolescents think the goals that have been set are relevant to them, attainable and time-bound, they are more motivated and better tuned to accomplish them and stimulated to set more goals in future. Social Entrepreneurship How many of you are aware of the term social entrepreneurship? At a very basic level, social entrepreneurship is about doing business for a social cause. According to the European Commission, a social enterprise is “an operator in the social economy whose main objective is to have a social impact rather than make a profit for their owners or shareholders. While making money is important, the main objective lies in supporting social projects that change lives or improve them. Social entrepreneurs identify with an issue that moves them and come up with an idea that they truly believe will help resolve them, this is their driving factor. There is very little difference between an entrepreneur and a social entrepreneur in terms of traits and qualities, both are innovators, risk takers and leaders. What differentiates themis their ultimate goal, while an entrepreneur is driven by generating wealth; a social entrepreneur is driven by a social mission. Consumers these days recognize and support the efforts of social entrepreneurs. This is a huge motivational boost and probably the reason for the rise in a number of socially responsible ventures. An apt example of one such entrepreneurial venture is, SANI, the brain child of Ms. Sapana Shakya. Ms. Shakya an expat wife, of Nepalese origin, always had the desire to stay connected to her roots and give back to her home country. SANI sprung into life when her path crossed with Prakash, a Pashmina manufacturer. He wasn’t only manufacturing Pashmina products; he was changing lives of uneducated women in need by teaching them weaving skills and offering them employment as they carriedthe financial burden of being the sole bread earners of their family. In order to constantly create jobs, he does not invest in any machines that could replace human labor. Touched by his initiative and the hard working women, Sapanahas joined hands to contribute to this greater cause. Social entrepreneurship has thus become the need of the hour, helping people help people.

You can find SANI on www.facebook.com/wearsani and www.instagram.com/wearsani. You can email Sapana at shakyasapana@gmail.com or call on 852 9724 1669 to learn more about her work.
