Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Having heard the abbreviation SEO, its now time to get down and know exactly what it means and what benefits it can bring to ones’ website. Search Engine Optimisation, as of today, is a technical, analytical and creative process to improve the visibility of a website in search engines. The primary function of SEO is to drive more unpaid and useful traffic to a site that converts into sales. Quite simply, SEO is the umbrella term for all the methods you can use to ensure the visibility of your website and its content on search engine results pages (SERPs). The methods vary from technical practices you can achieve behind the scenes on your website (we tend to refer to this as ‘on-page SEO’) to all the promotional ’off-page’ approaches you can use to raise your site’s visibility (link-building, social media marketing). What are search engines looking for? 1. Relevant - Search engines try to provide not only the most relevant results but also base their algorithm on searcher’s location, search history, time, year etc to give you the best answers. 2. Quality of Content - Is your content helpful or useful and can it be of immediate use to actual viewers instead of the search engine itself? 3. User Experience - If you have an easy navigable, clearly searchable, indexed website with internal links and data in place, you will certainly fare higher in rankings. 4. Authority - If a website is from an authority and people have seemed to trust it in the past, this will count towards showing up sooner as its deemed to be more trustworthy. 5. Meta Descriptions, Title Tags & Key Words - This doesn’t necessarily improve rankings but it needs to be done in order to increase the changes of a searcher clicking on your result. 6. Properly Tagged Images - Make sure you set this alt attribute to images in your content - if not, then google can’t ‘read’ your photo. 7. Evergreen Content - Ensure that you are not only going after ‘quick win’ stories but also provide insight, thoughtful, advice-based articles. Keep your content relevant and updated. 8. Domain Names, Sub Directories, Headlines and Permalinks - Keep your headlines to under 55 characters to ensure complete visibility in searches. 9. Comments Sections - Keep these turned on in your website so visitors can add content. 10. Local SEO - Ensure that Google knows and verifies your location, register and keep your business details with them updated. Ask a qualified SEO consultant to do this for you. 11. Social - Keep social media alive for your brand as each time you appear you get search points. 12. No Annoying Ads, Duplicated Content, Hidden Text, Error or Slow Loading Pages - There are over 200+ such considerations. Get to a professional, set a budget and work on your SEO with a medium to long term view and you will get the results you desire. For SEO consultations as well as website and app requirements - reach out to your partner Plus Group Int’l Ltd. You will enjoy the experience as much as the final product! sales@PrintPlus.com.hk | www.PrintPlus.com.hk | Tel: (852) 2333 4421 | Likes us on FB!

Why Sports? Sports is an innovative philanthropic tool for developing positive qualities amongst youths. These include the pursuit of excellence, the disposition for optimism and a sense of discipline and responsibility. While many non-profit organisations focus on education to develop the qualities, InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports) is one of the few pioneering charities in Hong Kong that uses sports and brings a wide spectrum of individuals together in society to give underprivileged youths a hand. Sports is recognised as an important and powerful tool with the potential to tackle challenges listed in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With a mission to promote and facilitate equal access to sports training for youths, regardless of economic background, gender, ethnicity, religion and disability, IHKSports instils good sportsmanship to enhance social mobility, as well as to promote gender equality, social inclusion and a healthy lifestyle. In Hong Kong, a lack of upward social mobility amongst youth is one of the most pressing social challenges. Sports helps to address this challenge at a personal level through enabling individual development. Likewise, sports plays an important role to promote inclusion. Sports is useful for advocating gender equality and countering constricting gender norms. It is an excellent tool for bringing together youths who have special education needs and/or come from various ethnic backgrounds. The transferable life skills and key values that youths obtain through sports, such as tolerance and acceptance, contribute to the promotion of social integration and conflict prevention. As an innovative philanthropic tool, sports has unique power to mobilise and inspire. It could link up the sports, education, business, charity and public sectors, as well as committed professional volunteers, to create great social synergies that promote a healthy lifestyle and social development.
InspiringHK Sports Foundation is a HK-based charity, founded in 2012 to empower better youths through sports. Our mission is to promote and facilitate equal access to sports training for youths through long-term sports training, learning experience activities and advocacy activities.
What are you doing right now? We move all the time. From the moment we wake up, we carry out thousands of habitual movements. We brush our teeth, eat our meals, stand up, reach for the door handle and walk down the street. These actions aren’t something we normally pay attention to as our minds wander back and forth in time, thinking about what happened yesterday and worrying about the future. So what about right now? Mindful movement is about being in the present. It’s being aware of what we’re doing and how we’re moving in the moment. For instance, when we’re walking down the street – mindfulness is about feeling the movement as we take each step, the raising of the legs, the compression of the feet, and the gentle sway of the arms as we direct our bodies toward the next destination. When you pay attention to these small details, you can’t help but be in the present. This can take us to a calm place of self-awareness and helps bridge the connection between the mind and the body. Maintaining a healthy mind and body starts with mindful movement. Listen to any mental health podcast and you’ll hear a common theme – “Stay present”. This can be easily accomplished by placing your mind’s focus on your body movement. Try focusing on your breath, touching the tips of your fingers with your thumb. For a moment, look at your index finger. Imagine that your thought can travel from your head, down the shoulder, through the arm, toward the hand and to your fingertip. What does it feel like? With practice, you’ll be able to put your mind anywhere, and with that ability, you can easily clear your mind of racing thoughts and find a sense of peace in your own form. So, what are you doing right now? A boutique wellness studio in Central combining mindfulness with the physical discipline of Pilates and Wing Chun Kung Fu. Private and group classes for both adult and children are available daily. Corporate and special event classes are also available. Permanent hair removal is the new WAXING Unwanted body hair is a nuisance for both men and women. Many of the quicker methods of hair removal such as shaving or using depilatory creams only last a day or two and the longer lasting options like waxing and threading can leave you with painful and unattractive ingrown hairs, with hair growing back within a couple of weeks. Also, salons are gradually increasing their prices making these longer-lasting methods of hair removal less affordable. Many more men and women are now turning towards long-lasting, permanent methods of hair reduction and removal instead. To help you decide if permanent body hair removal is right for you then Laser is the way to go. Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in todays day and age – it entails the treatment area is exposed to intense light of a single frequency. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light and converts it into heat energy that preferentially heats the hair and the root ball and reduces oxygen around the hair follicle causing damage to the hair root and reduces the ability for the hair to regrow. It is super effective and long lasting although after a few years some people may want to go in for a ‘touch up’, this varies from person to person. A good therapist with a good machine should be able to make your treatment almost painless. Not totally pain free once can feel the feeling of say a hairbrush rolling against your skin which is very mild. Laser uses cooling mechanisms to cause the least discomfort. To check if its suitable for you, go in for a consultation with a qualified and well-versed Laser provider and request for a patch test if possible; also ensure they can take on any hair colour and any skin colour and be able to give you results. The number of treatments will vary depending on your hair growth, areas you would like to cover and how long you leave between appointments. Suitable for both men and women, we see many young adults going in for this as a lasting means to being ‘hair free’. The only other point to note is to take care of your skin after the treatment is done and you should be very pleased with the results! Spa Beaute Par Zai is multi award winning spa & the longest establishment in Hong Kong since 1975, in the heart of Central – aiming to offer avant-garde spa and beauty treatments to modern career women in corporate offices and to the traditional elite who come to shop in the best stores in Central.
Brightening Your Path to Academic Excellence There is a lot more to excelling in academics than just answering questions correctly. The increasing pressures from friends and family, fears of future consequences, and the demands of consistently staying abreast with top grades can be overwhelming for even the most intelligent of students. Just like , students would be better equipped to shine brightly in their exams with the following tips: 1. Know your Exam - Every student ought to know the exam board, course code, syllabus, and estimated grade boundaries for every public exam that they undertake. Teachers typically have countless students doing different exams at different times, and so relying on them may not always be the best option. More importantly, this gives students their first taste of taking responsibility and accountability for their own actions and future. 2. Plan Ahead - Given that it takes a school around two years or more to prepare students to sit for a public exam, preparation and planning is paramount. If Rome wasn’t built in a day, even exams cannot be tackled the night before. Every student preparing for an exam must make - and adhere to - a revision schedule, with sufficient time given to their weak subjects and topics. 3. Handwrite Colored Notes - As much as today’s students may want to simply snap their textbooks, experts say that the best way to process and retain information is to handwrite it. Using colored pens and highlighters would further liven up the notes, which could even be in the form of mindmaps, bullet points, or foldable worksheets. 4. Practice Past Papers - With the notes already handwritten, the next step would be to ‘test’ the retention and understanding of that information, by doing past papers of the same exam code under simulated exam conditions. This means completing each past paper in a quiet environment within the allotted time period uninterrupted, and without the aid of any other resource such as notes, textbooks, or even the internet. After completing the past paper, it is best to have it marked as stringently as possible, then review the topics that still need to be mastered and ask for help whenever needed. 5. Achieve in 3-Ds - Determination, direction, and dedication. There would be times when questions seem too difficult to answer, and there would also be times when there are too many topics to study and not enough time. Yet, the perseverance and positive attitude applied at this stage would set the template to confidently and competently achieve several greater milestones in future. Mr Sam and his team teach academic and interest subjects across local and international curricula to primary and secondary students. Individual and group lessons, coaching sessions, and products like textbooks and calculators are offered at Be Bright Coaching Centre, in-house, and online. www.bebrightcoachingwisdom.com
Top 4 Hand Strengthening Activities for Children Some children have weak muscle tone in their hands. This can be caused by a number of reasons such as neuro-muscular defects, injuries at birth, Global Development Delay and Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is important that children are exposed to a variety of fine-motor activities to help develop good hand strength. These activities are vital to further develop and refine a child’s fine-motor manipulation, finger isolation, eye-hand coordination and bilateral coordination skills. Here are some hand-strengthening activities which may help your child: 1.Paper Crumpling – Have your child crumple up pieces of scrap paper or newspaper into the tiniest of balls. Then have them try and crumple up the paper using just one hand at a time. 2. Masking Tape – Stick strips of wide masking tape to a table and have your child peel and pull the masking tape and then encourage them to crumple into a small ball. You can incorporate a throwing and catching game once you have created a large ball from it. 3. Squeezing Sponges – You can use sponges during bath time, while washing the dishes or during a painting activity. Encourage your child to squeeze the water or paint from the sponge. 4. Play Dough – Have your child roll, pound, pull, squeeze and poke the play dough. You can also try hiding small toys, coins, buttons and beads in the play dough and have your child find them.
With over 40 years of experience, the Child Development Centre (CDC) specialises in educating pre-school aged children with individual learning needs. The CDC has expertise in parenting, therapies for children, and support for teaching professionals in kindergartens and schools.
Am I The Best “ME” Possible? People today are completely unaware of what they ingest, and how their food is so devoid of nutrients. Is it any wonder that they develop diseases that leave them feeling drained and weak? One might start by asking themselves about the impact of food on their own bodies, the truth is shocking – recent scientific studies have been against eating meat, eggs and dairy as well, and research shows these foods are killing the planet. And so, the world is beginning to see that veganism is the way to a better life for everyone. According to a report published by the Worldwatch Institute, 51% of global greenhousegas emissions are caused by animal agriculture. The United Nations declared that a global shift toward a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. The meat sold in grocery stores come from animals that have been most likely killed in slaughterhouses where they endure almost unimaginable suffering. So, what do people eat if not meat? They still need protein, so it’s important to create a high-protein vegan diet. People need to consume more foods like peas, kale and mushrooms. There are also a large and amazing variety of plant-based foods that have become readily available in Hong Kong. Long gone are the days of limiting oneself to basic fruits, nuts and vegetables when making the choice to be vegetarian. Food is the source of the body’s nutrition. The food one eats affects their moods, appetite, energy levels, immunity, and their overall health. As such, they need to create a vegan diet that is high in protein. There are countless plantbased foods available now. All foods, including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds, are derived from plants. What better way to stay fit as well as save the environment. The vegan way of lifestyle isn’t just for athletes and actors anymore, veganism can help everyone become the best version of themselves by using the right food choices to improve their health and well-being. Anyone in Hong Kong, interested in making the change can do just that in an affordable, efficient and convenient way. Visit the online store www.veghamper.com and see just how vast the variety of vegetarian and vegan options there are at one’s fingertips and have the convenience of their order being delivered to their doorstep!

Your Hair Speaks Volumes of your Health While the eyes are a window to our soul, our hair health is that window which provides a sneak peek into our overall health and well-being. Ayurvedic research on hair growth is extensive and well structured which makes it easy for practitioners to pinpoint the cause of hair fall and treat it accordingly. According to Ayurveda, hair type is directly related to body type and is systematically classified into three categories; Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each hair type has distinct features, and hence there are multiple reasons for hair loss which vary from person to person. Hair loss is caused because of pitta dosha. Pitta governs our metabolism and digestion. A balanced Pitta leads to a healthy body and mind. It controls our general well being. Once you identify the reasons of pitta dosha, it becomes easier to correct it. Typically, bad eating habits, anxiety, and stress cause pitta dosha, which in turn leads to hair loss. Excessive consumption of tea, coffee, alcohol, meat, fried and spicy food can cause an imbalance in pitta. Apart from Pitta Dosha, other reasons for hair loss according to Ayurveda are hormonal imbalances in men and women, stress, lack of sleep, improper diet, intoxicating substances, dandruff or fungal infections and diseases like lupus or diabetes amongst others. Ayurvedic hair regrowth solutions address these core issues promoting hair regrowth. Please Pay Attention! If your hair has been highly damaged by blow drying, chemical hair products and coloring it’s impossible for it to speak about your health, because your hair is no longer in its natural state so any thinning, loss or brittleness can be mainly attributed to the chemical products. It’s important to keep your hair natural and healthy so that you’ll be aware of the warnings it can show. Ayurveda addresses 3 key concepts of care during the treatment, namely; Nidana (diagnostic measures), Ahar (food that can be used as preventive medicine) and Chikitsa (support and selfcare). For Powerful Legs - Clock Lunges: Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a medicine ball in front of your chest with both hands. Lunge forward with your right leg, bending right knee 90 degrees. Repeat, facing forward but lunging diagonally to 2 o’clock, then 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock, and lunging in reverse to 6 o’clock. Reverse pattern back to start. Switch legs and repeat the series on your left side, going in a counterclockwise direction. Single-Leg Dead Lift: Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a barbell or dumbbells in both hands. Do 20 total reps (tapping 10 times on each side). Medicine-Ball Slams: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a non-bouncing medicine ball (a “dead” ball) overhead. Pivot to the right and bend knees as you slam the ball down to the floor. Squat down to pick up the ball, bring ball back overhead, and repeat slam to left. Do 20 reps total (10 on each side). Lead the Scene, Keep it Green! Sustainable ways to do Events “Life shouldn’t only be lived, life should be celebrated” – Osho Celebrating Events and attending events is part of your lifestyle now whether it’s a meeting, a gala dinner, a birthday celebration or weddings. Your calendar is filled with such activities. We all have to do our bit to celebrate in sustainable ways. Go green is the need of the day! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. As a responsible event planner, it starts with planning to the tiniest little details and CSR which is big with lot of companies in different ways, there’s no better way for me to implement this other than into the events that we do. We all have a moral obligation to take care of our beautiful planet. Here’s a guide to some simple ways to make a difference : 1) Plastic Straws – NO NO ………absolute NO - I’m personally pleased to see a lot of establishments abolishing this trend. It’s one-time use is hurting the environment by polluting the ocean and hurting the sea creatures. Solution – pick up some paper straws available in variety of colours or simply have your drink straight up …. On the rocks if you may... 2) Plastic water bottles (with personalized labels) - I get it, the devil is in the details and having your name/logo splashed across rows of neatly stacked water bottles just looks so pretty. A great shot for your photographer, a visual delight for the guests to be in awe of the detailing yet is it worth it? Many times people drink a few sips and leave almost full water bottles all around and it is then discarded. That’s wasting natural resources of water and plastic bottles. Solution - Keep a water station where glasses are half filled for anyone to pick up a quick drink. 3) Evites - With the world on your finger tips literally and everyone glued to their phones. It’s better to send out Evites where you receive replies quicker than traditional invites made of paper and the follow ups. Save paper, save trees! Bonus: If the event has buffet dinner, there tends to be a lot of wastage of food. It would be nice to arrange food donation for the less fortunate ones via food angel HK or other charities.

3 Tips to Make Your Mobile Phone Photos Awesome! What’s the best camera in the world? It’s the one that is with you! Every phone has a camera these days, and their quality is getting better and better! Here are 3 great tips for improving your smartphone photography! 1. Have a clear subject Always consider this before taking any photo: What exactly are you taking a photo of? It might be a person, a beautiful sunset or even just a wall, but you need to know what it is and what you want your viewer to see. Then you need to make sure it’s in focus. Some phones will focus on a clear subject automatically, while for others, you’ll need to tap the screen where your subject appears for an ultra sharp focus. 2. Play with light Smartphone photography is tricky during low light, so you should always be aware of the light in your scene. Light is about quality, direction and color. Go out and shoot in the “golden hours” at sunrise and sunset. The light is more even at these times, making photography much easier. Also, don’t be afraid to play with light. Look for shadows and reflections that can show an otherwise over-looked subject in a new light! 3. Change perspectives If you’re taking photos in a city like Hong Kong, chances are everything you shoot has been shot a million times before. To get something original and interesting, try taking your photos from different and unusual perspectives. Go high, lie down, and try as many different angles as you can. Mobile photography is all about experimentation.

School Admissions: No debenture? No problem! It’s a common misbelief that parents need to fork out hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars to pay for a debenture to have a child at international school. Debentures are hard to understand. A debenture is the traditional name given to a loan agreement where the borrower is an institutional borrower. i.e a school. For parents, it means a large lump sum payable to the school on – or before – admission, regardless of what the school will do with our money. Some schools will refund the full amount of the debenture, without interest and less any transfer fees/penalties, to the parents once the child leaves the school. In some schools, the debentures depreciate over a certain number of years; sometimes to zero. In a few schools, the debenture depreciates to zero in just seven or eight years. Which schools do not require a debenture? Some schools offer parents the option of paying an annual levy instead of a debenture. This is different from a debenture in that it is paid yearly and is not refundable. It may amount to the same or more than the debenture over the course of the child’s schooling. Parents get very nervous at the very mention of the word ‘debenture’ and the good news is that it is only mandatory in a few schools. Would you be surprised to know that you do not need a debenture for the following schools : • Australian International School • Canadian International School • English Schools Foundation • Harrow International School • Hong Kong International School • Malvern College Hong Kong Many of these schools offer Annual Levies as an alternative to larger sums. Mostly, they’re in the range of HK$20-30,000 / year. So, whilst international schools ARE expensive; there’s no denying it, they are not all as expensive as many parents believe.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Tax man! In order to maintain Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center, the Government has exempted offshore private equity funds from Hong Kong Profits Tax in respect of their investment income derived from Hong Kong financial markets. This exemption has recently been extended to income derived from disposals of unlisted shares in investment vehicles incorporated in Hong Kong. Non-Hong Kong resident investors could take advantage of this tax incentive, setting up offshore private equity funds which operate in and make profits from Hong Kong without being liable to Hong Kong Profits Tax. But, setting up investment vehicles meeting the criteria for tax exemption is a complicated and delicate business. In addition to FATCA, the Hong Kong Government has passed a law to impose CRS filing obligations on financial institutions resident in Hong Kong, and to facilitate information exchange with other jurisdictions participating in CRS. The financial institutions have been conducting due diligence and filing the information so collected from their clients with the Inland Revenue Department. Businesses, in particular those residing overseas, are worried about what information could be collected and exchanged. Individuals, in particular those having interest in passive Non-financial entities, have similar concerns. With the economy of Hong Kong increasingly merging with that of China, Hong Kong businesses and their employees often find that their incomes are chargeable to tax in both jurisdictions. These taxpayers could always find double tax relief from the DTA signed between the China and Hong Kong Governments. In some cases, these businesses could fine-tune their operations to reduce the tax exposure. A two-tier tax rates regime in the year 2018/19 has been introduced, implemented as a fiscal measure to relieve tax burden of businesses, in particular SME’s in Hong Kong.

Intermittent Fasting 101 Intermittent fasting (IF) is currently the latest hack for weight loss. It is especially popular with those looking to lose weight, improve overall health and simplify lives. In IF it is the “timing” of eating that matters more than what you are eating. Generally, during your fasting window, liquids such as water, herbal teas or broths may be consumed. Popular timings are 14:10; 16:8; 18:6; 20:4; 24:0. For instance 16:8 means you eat for 8 hours and fast for 16. Generally, people tend to skip breakfast and eat from 1-9 pm or 12-8 pm. 24:0 is not eating for a whole day until the next E.g. lunch-to-lunch or dinner-to-dinner for any 2 non-consecutive days in a week. There is also 5:2 Diet in which 2 days of the week you restrict your calories to 500-600 and eat normal during the other 5 days. The benefits of IF are reduction of total body toxicity, less inflammation, cell repair, release of fat-stored chemicals, anti-aging, improved organ functionality (especially the heart), insulin sensitivity and mental clarity. The body goes through a self-cleansing period while you are fasting. It can be looked upon as if you are taking a break from work to handle the other aspects of life for which there is often little time. Besides bodily changes, emotionally, you become more sensitive and aware of your feelings-making it easier to make decisions. Weight loss happens during IF since calories are restricted during the eating window and the body is burning more calories/fat at the same time - provided you are not bingeing during your eating interval. Although IF has a host of benefits, it may not be ideal for everyone and some should avoid it altogether especially if you have diabetes, irregular blood sugar regulation, chronic degenerative disease, history of eating disorder, gallstone disease, low blood pressure or if you are underweight and/or malnourished. Women especially ought to be more cautious if they are trying get pregnant or have hormonal issues. There are many anecdotal reports where women’s menstrual period is halted during IF and returns once they eat normal or their insulin sensitivity deteriorates, or thyroid hormone levels are altered. However, there is a safe way for women to follow IF. The bottom line is that if this way of eating works for you, follow it. If you don’t do well with fasting, then listen to your body and avoid it altogether. The best way to improve overall health is one that you can follow and be consistent. Eating real food, exercising, managing stress and sleeping well are the cornerstones to vibrant health. Single and Loving it! Open any decent bar menu and you will be offered a vast array of choices under the Whisky category. These will usually be split into Single Malt Whisky, Blended Whisky and Bourbon. Yes, these are all whiskies! Which is better? Well, today the rage is single malt .. but many mistakenly believe that a “single” malt means this is whisky that has been taken from only one very special cask amongst the hundreds of thousands of casks that are quietly aging in the distillery but that is not so…. there are definitely such whiskies available but those are called “single cask” whiskies and are not common. A single malt whisky is basically any whisky that uses barley for the fermentation process, aged over 3 years in an oak cask and then.. and here is the key point, aged in one individual estate property. Thus one can use any number of casks, marry them in a huge vat and then bottle this mixture of say 50 casks and still call it a “single malt” whisky. This is specifically mentioned on some bottles with descriptions like triple cask referring to various types of woods that the casks are made of or sherry cask referring to what the cask had been used to age previously ( scotch whisky does not use new casks to age their spirit ) . A blended whisky, by comparison, will marry casks from various distilleries and may include both malt and grain whiskies. Bourbon is the term used for whiskey from the USA which uses corn ( not barley ) as their primary ingredient. So which is better? Well the figures show that over 90% of the whisky consumed in the world is blended. Blended whiskies provide a consistent smooth flavour from start to finish so you know exactly what to expect from each bottle. Single Malt whiskies, on the other hand, are constantly evolving in the glass and evoke wave after wave of subtle nuanced flavours on the palate for several minutes. Each bottle, in fact each dram, is a new experience and never ever repeated. Ultimately, It is a personal choice. My suggestion would be to avoid being a “Whisky Snob” and enjoy the best of both worlds. The What, Where and How of the Chakras What are the chakras? Chakra is the Sanskrit word for “wheel” or “disc” and describes the seven main energy centres in the body. Each ofthese centres is a high-frequency vortex of moving energy, beginning at the base ofthe spine and finishing at the crown ofthe head. The chakras correlate to various stages oflife, levels of consciousness, colours, sounds, and more. What happens when the chakras connect? When the chakras connect, one feels centred, joyful and anchored to an inner sense ofself, and to the world at large. Harmonised, the chakras empower in all aspects of life: grounding, security, sensuality, sexuality, spontaneity, personal power, love, balance, self-expression, communication, intuition, insight, wisdom, and spiritual connection. Can the chakras be out of balance? When the chakras are not in balance, rather than rising in the energy of self-growth and evolution, one may feel weighed down and in a loop. So how can one balance the chakras? There are several ways to balance the chakras. Some use practices such as chakra meditation, breathing exercises and yoga techniques to help keep the chakras aligned. These are all enhanced when one has an understanding ofthe chakras, where they are and how they work. This understanding deepens the practice and makes it more effective. Others like to use chakra jewellery. As in many traditions of astrology, in which certain stones, aligned to certain planets, are worn to enable shifts within. Likewise authentic chakra jewellery does the same. Can chakra jewellery help? Chakra jewellery created based upon the ancient philosophy ofthe chakras helps bring alignment. When they are balanced it allows one to respond to life wholeheartedly. Who is chakra jewellery for? Chakra jewellery is for those who would like a simple and beautiful way to help keep the chakras in balance. It is key to choose authentic chakra jewellery that is able to represent the energy ofthe chakras. People can bring focus to specific chakras and change them from time to time to suit what they need in the moment. Some wear all seven to keep it simple! Anger – One alphabet short of Danger A lovely life is yours with comforts and luxuries, and yet so unhappy if it has criticisms, anger, unlikeable voices and negative communications on either sides. Just as its natural to love, enjoy and be happy, it’s equally natural to express dislikes, comments and criticism that often lead to sadness, irritations, frustrations, hate and anger. These are all natural emotions but they have to be handled in a dignified style, skillfully. We actually can’t blame others for what they feel and say, and for their tone of speech which makes it worse. They don’t know a better way and it’s hard or impossible to change others. So, YOU can only change yourself! Here are the critical rules: Give a comment rather than a criticism. Comments are gentler, and feel more valid. u Don’t criticize anyone near others. Find a better time and place, as also the receiver will be less defensive. And do compliment in public! u Volume and tone should be in control so as not to hurt one another. Somehow, find the message in their anger and gain from it. Thank them for being interested in guiding you and to do so, in a calmer way. u Always turn negative remarks to constructive action to overcome errors next time. eg “Your handwriting is terrible. You never write clearly”. This degrades the person, and confirms that the person can’t improve. It’s best to suggest “I suggest you make the words a little bigger and the curves more open”. u Avoid blaming. Avoid saying ‘You’. Substitute it with ‘I’. eg “You were saying..., say “I felt bad when I heard I was not working hard enough”. u Upon being corrected, accept and apologise quickly with a sincere tone. Don’t make excuses straightaway; and don’t point at team members as you are all equally responsible. u Use these tips and tricks, to be able express yourself positively. Never have anger inhibit your personality and relationships. We all need to prepare, polish and gift wrap to deliver negativity in a kind and positive way. There is an art and skill in improving yourself and others... once you strive to master this, life automatically brings about a happier and more successful YOU! u

Hong Kong’s Recruitment Dynamics When it comes to searching for the right career opportunity in this increasingly competitive job market, it’s crucial that the candidate has a clear understanding of the strengths and attributes they can bring to a role and company. One cannot afford to be ignorant or oblivious to the company’s products, coverage or presence in Asia, as well as their overall strategy for growth. With information readily available, networks and communities online, the more informed and prepared the candidate is, the higher their chances for winning the interview. It’s equally important that one is able to articulate and summerise their career history, achievements and contributions to businesses they have worked for. With digital analytics and the advancement of technology in each sector, most companies can measure the effectiveness of their products or services. Employers are increasingly looking for contributors, and those roles are more progressive and higher paid than support functions. As a Sales & Marketing specialist, one is aware of the impact of media & technology on a business, whether a consumer product, a high fashion brand or a subscription based business solution. There is an increasing need for sales, marketing & content specialists to fuel this evolutionary transition into our world of tomorrow. This evolution has resulted to new positions across digital, content, analytics, research, compliance, social media marketing etc. which the generation Z is well equipped for. However, generation Z brings commands a new perspective in leadership. The day of micromanagement, rigid processes and dictatorship are long gone. The younger generation need to feel inspired and empowered. They are attracted to an environment where rules are flexible to allow for fluidity in processes and concepts, and businesses can adapt to change fast, to cope with changes in the demands of their audience. People with a growth mindset, open to change outperform those with a fixed mindset in today’s corporate world. They embrace challenges, welcome setback and work collaboratively to create and resolve. To remain ahead, both candidates and employers should keep the dynamics of the changing landscape in mind, to best represent themselves in securing talent or work opportunities. Heard about STEAM ED? Here is why STEAM is becoming and important ingredient in early learning.. Hong Kong being progressively ahead of the game when it comes to education, it is no surprise that STEM/STEAM has been a hot topic in the field for the past few years. The concept came into existence when there was a perceived lack of qualified candidates in the high-tech jobs in the United States. It also addressed the concern with subjects like Mathematics and Sciences been taught in complete isolation without drawing the obvious and important overlaps together. With that in mind, STEM was introduced which encouraged integrated learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in relation to a specific topic being discussed. STEAM is the upgraded version of STEM which now discusses the importance of Arts in relation to the rest. Moreover, with rapid technological advancements, world leaders have been discussing the uncertainty of jobs and its implications on workforce in the next 10- 20 years. This brought to light the importance of implementing STEAM earlier on in the learning journey of a child. An inquiry based early childhood education which encourages problem solving skills as part of daily learnings would help learn concepts in its entirety. There is a greater focus on the development of soft skills whereas the hard skills are learnt organically through hands-on approach. A lot of local and international schools are now putting an effort in training their teachers in STEAM ED. They may however differ in their approach and comprehensiveness. It is important to research when looking into schools as to how they are implementing this in their core learning strategies. We believe coding is a language every child will speak, it is how they apply it to further INNOVATE that will set them apart from their peers! Techbob Academy is the largest STEAM education network in Hong Kong, with learning centres in North Point, South Horizons, Yuen Long, Kowloon Bay, Tsueng Kwan O, Tsim Sha Tsui and the very first STEAM Park in Repulse Bay. We teach Coding, Robotics, Architecture and many other courses to kids 3 years onwards.
Eye in The Sky over Hong Kong – to crash or not to crash? Drones are now part of our lives. Did you know 86% of the industry is used by those in the construction industry. Yes, no longer are cinematographers and amateur photographers the biggest consumers of this wonderful new technology. As the technology improves, so does the price point. Many even quite small drones such as the mid-sized DJI Matrice 220 series can cost upwards of HK$200,000 with its two cameras. Whilst drones (or UAVs) are becoming safer with obstacle avoidance technology, many people forget about learning to fly. As an analogy, the Airbus A380 is the safest vehicle in the world. How safe would it be if you put the average Jane or Joe behind the wheel without training? That is why Scottcopters, the only commercial Drone Academy in Asia has met with such success in meeting market demands. All responsible corporations cannot afford to have their reputations marred with sloppy piloting skills and costly accidents. It is time to realize that drone pilots are just that – pilots; and should be trained and respected accordingly. Training involves two full days in the classroom ending with a multiple-choice closed book exam. Once this has been passed, pilot candidates go on to write their organization’s Operations Manual. There is a template for this and it shows their CEO, the regulator (CAD in Hong Kong) and most importantly their insurers how they will operate and what they will do in case of emergencies. Once the manual is complete and refined, the candidates will go on to undergo a tough Flight Operations Assessment which includes 12 flight tasks as well as an all-important presite survey where they have to assess a specific location and whether it is safe to fly and operate there. Once all these tasks have been done, the investment in time, money, practice and yes, more practice, will come to fruition and the pilot candidate will be awarded with the CDP-C™ or the Certified Drone Pilot – Commercial. A mark that not only is the pilot safe to operate but treats his clients with respect and service quality; offering them advice on how to complete all their aerial needs. Sorry helicopters, it’s time to move over! Scottcopters Aerial Solutions provides commercial drone/uav training and certification in Hong Kong. Please do get in touch about courses, training and uav services at katy.scott@scottcopters.com www.scottcopters.com
