2013


We introduce our Annual Report 2013, a summary of our main activities which resulted in near 634,608 people participating actively in our development projects and accessing a life of better opportunities and justice, which will contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the strengthening of the Peruvian Society. In total we administered 9,3 million US dollars efficiently distributed, on each of our intervention lines. We have also assumed an environmental commitment focusing our actions towards adaption to climate change. Our research allows us to be at the forefront in new implementation technologies and in the identification of new social issues, which allows us to address our actions towards these new needs. In 2013 we reached our 27th year of institutional life as the Peruvian NGO with holds significant international projection. Our experience with populations in vulnerable situations that are struggling against poverty, have allowed us to extend our scope towards other countries in Latin America and in Africa. The Annual Report 2013 allows us to introduce PRISMA to you and provide an account of our labor and commitment to those in greatest need.

Who are we?

Prisma is a Peruvian eco efficient NGO that works for social inclusion and sustainable development since 1986.

What do we do?

We implement projects, design strategies, develop research, and offer consultancy in our intervention lines. Our team is composed of committed personnel that provide innovation, are committed to teamwork and communication; we are client and results oriented, which constitute the foundation of our organizational culture.

How do we do it?

Our projects, training programs and consultancies are based on research and empiric verification that a determined strategy or methodology generates the expected impact. In addition to this, our projects are supervised and monitored, we submit reports to donors, we conduct systematizations where there is proof of lessons learnt, and we finally account through audits applied to projects.

International presence: Over the last few years our activities have gone beyond the frontiers of Peru, and Prisma has now international presence and is acknowledged as a “Regional leader providing Technical Assistance and Training in Logistics Management on Health in Latin America and the Caribbean�. Health and Sanitation Project

To improve the conditions of sanitation in slums of Vista al Mar, San Eusebio, San Pedro, Miramar and Casablanca Population Center, San Andrés district, Province of Pisco, Ica Region. The goal is to reduce the incidence of diarrheal diseases affecting the populations living in these slums. Therefore, we improved the sanitation conditions through the installation of a public sewage network, as well as the improvement of hygiene and sanitation practices.

Alliance for infant nutrition The project aimed to improve the national, regional and local governments’ capacity to implement effective infant malnutrition policies with the participation of the private sector and civil society. Alliance for infant nutrition is an initiative of ADRA, CARE, CÁRITAS and PRISMA.

USAID

Health and nutrition in districts Antauta, Ajoyani and Queracucho The objective was to reduce chronic infant malnutrition and anemia through the improvement of nutrition practices within families, strengthening capacities in health care personnel, community agents and officers for a better management of nutrition, and strengthening community participation.

Voluntary mining contribution of MINSUR through Aporta Civil Association

Strengthening regional planning, dissemination and monitoring:Multi sectorial Strategic Plan 2010 – 2019 Prisma in alliance with the Physicians Association of Peru implemented the TBS Objective of the VIII Round of the Global Fund. Both institutions contributed their capacities to disseminate, follow-up and facilitated the regional planning of this significant public policy, which resulted from a multi sectorial agreement process.

Ananeki Kameti (Healthy child in Matsigenka) A Health and Food Security project in 7 native communities and 2 rural slums of lower Urubamba had the goal to improve the health conditions and nutrition of populations in communities as Camisea, Kirigueti, Segakiato, Cashiriari, Ticumpinía, Nuevo Mundo, Shivankoreni and rural slums of Túpac Amaru and Shintorini.

Children of tomorrow The objective of this project is to promote healthy habits starting with early education children, and eradicate the frequent occurrence of disease in schools, through healthy child fairs (for detection and prevention); design of learning sessions and games that will impact in school performance, socialization and quality of life for children in Comas.

Teaching and Encouraging The objective is to promote healthy lifestyles by promoting physical activity in children of early and primary education of Old Lima and El Agustino, through playful and recreational methodologies using the Playing and Growing active and healthy module.

Let’s adopt a school With a comprehensive proposal based on strategies such as the strengthening of teachers capacities, Parents Associations, parents, and classroom committees, technical assistance and political incidence, the objective is to improve learning in children from three schools in the province of Talara, Piura region.

Strengthening local institutions in Huancabamba – Piura The Project contributed to the strengthening of local institutions, in order to implement proper territorial management while promoting social inclusion, economic and social development, and better services for citizens by improving the democratic governance and life conditions of vulnerable populations of districts in Huancabamba province.

Support to Economic and Social Cohesion in Andean Community – CESCAN I

Governance and transparency The project goal was to improve the effectiveness and transparency in the quality and coverage of public services, guaranteeing country governance in 14 regions and 623 rural districts of Peru. The project was implemented in alliance with ESAN University and the Mesa de Concertación para la Lucha contra la Pobreza(MCLCLP) (Poverty Alleviation Concerted Committee).

Improvement of alpaca farmers productivity in Huancavelica region The objective of the project is to improve the productivity of alpaca wool fiber among local producers organized in the center of Huancavelica by improving their productive levels and adding value to their products.

Sustainable incomes by organic crops of quinoa in Azángaro and Melgar – Puno region This project improves the income of small quinoa producers in the Provinces of Azángaro and Melgar, Puno by introducing certified and organic production in order to supply the demand of international markets.

Sustainable agroforestry systems for income generation and rural employment in Andahuaylas province, Tara The goal in this project is to raise production and productivity in a consistent manner, for products such as tara, kiwicha and bean crops in the provinces of Andahuaylas and Chincheros. The proposal is a response to the need of improving income, employment and diversification for income sources of local producers, as well as taking measures of adaptation and mitigation of the effects in climate change. Therefore it was necessary to determine which alternative products would have potential demand. Tara, kiwicha and beans were selected as they adapt better to the favorable climate and soil in the area.

MONITORING AND SUPERVISION OF GATHERING AND TRADE CHAIN OF RECYCLED GLASS (CULLET) Support the strengthening of gathering, storage and trade chain of Cullet in Northern Zone of Peru: Piura, Chiclayo and Trujillo; Southern Zone: Arequipa and Cusco; and the Metropolitan Lima Zone and Constitutional Province of Callao. The goal is to ensure a constant and periodical supply of broken glass that enables the raw material needs to prepare the Owen Illinois products.

Strengthening capacities of national institutions in sexual and reproductive health Since 2009, we supply technical services for Global Program of Supplies Insurance to Reproductive Health at the Regional Office for Latin America and Caribbean, of UNFPA LACRO. Training programs in several processes of logistics management have been developed, as well as several consultancies in diagnostics and assessments on logistics management, strategic and operational plan design, design and implementation of logistic management systems, implementation of budget planning process and expenses execution as well as management per results among others in Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama and Nicaragua.

Technical consultancy for strengthening the logistic management of anti conceptive supplies and medicines of Reproductive Health in Honduras The goal is to settle the foundations for strengthening the Logistic Management System of Supplies and Medicines in Reproductive and Mother Health, saving lives.

Strengthening of Capacities in Logistics Management to ensure reproductive health supplies (ERHS) Decentralization of health care services in Mexico showed the need of strengthening the national capacities ensuring the supply of sexual and reproductive health (ESSRH). In addition to this, 62 volunteers from different nationalities gave their time and solidarity dedication in projects and programs executed by Prisma NGO.

OUR COMMITMENT BEFORE CLIMATE CHANGE At Prisma NGO, we promote sustainability, preservation and protection of natural resources, earth, land, wind water and biodiversity, in such a way social, economic and environmental benefits are guaranteed for present and future generations. All our actions are within the framework of environment respect and adaptation to climate change in a responsible way from our cooperators, clients, suppliers and population participating in our projects. Social Responsibility (SR) In 2013, the company socially responsible selected Prisma NGO as its strategic ally for the implementation of projects in community. Overall, seven projects of SR have been developed, with 1,6 million dollar amount that benefited more than 900 children from native communities of Peruvian rain forest and highlands, with two programs of health and nutrition; and more than 16 thousand children benefited with three education program.
